Samsung Smart Switch? Transfer apps and app data? - T-Mobile Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hey,
I'm looking to swap to Note 7. I've always been accustomed to root and have all my phones backup with Titanium backup. The app allows me to backup all data including the data of each app. I would like to switch to the new Note, but have certain apps which I want to preserve the data for. For example, I used Naver LINE app (chat), Whatsapp, and WeChat which has some chat data which I want to transfer over. With Titanium Backup, I can do this without problem. Will Smart Switch be able to move everything or will it just transfer the app, but I loose the data?

Smart switch has not been able to do this for me. It just copies the app and it takes forever. I have to use helium. But you need to buy the premium version though as the free version is limited.

I set up fresh. Only used smart switch to transfer pics and SMS.

Do you use LINE? Did helium work?
I need to somehow mimic these steps without root
Fast procedure (requires rooted phones)
If you don't remember your LINE PIN code, now is the last chance to change it, LINE will ask for it after you switch. Even if you never set one, it will ask you so better set it now.
Root both of your Android phones, old and new (absolutely required)
Install Titanium Backup (free) on both phones.
On the old phone, make sure LINE is not running, launch Titanium backup, and backup LINE (App+Data).
Copy the Titanium Backup folder (typically /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/) from your old phone to your new phone. It should contain 3 files or so.
On the new phone, install LINE (don't start it yet), launch Titanium Backup and use it to restore LINE (App+Data).
On the new phone, install Root Browser, and use it to copy /data/data/jp.naver.line.android/databases/naver_line to your /sdcard/, then transfer it to a desktop computer (via ADB or email)
Open this file in SQLiteBrowser, go to the Execute SQL tab.
Type delete from setting; then press the Execute button. Save and exit, then copy the file back to /data/data/jp.naver.line.android/databases/naver_line
Start LINE on the new phone and log in. All of your data will be just like you left it.
This restores your friends, chat history, call logs, groups, groups chat history.

All you have to do is use the transfer plug provided with thr note 7 you plug it into a micro usb plug the micro into your old device the usb c adapter and it starts to transfer everything you have on the phone. Doesn't take long depends how many gigs.

text messaging is different than in chat app like line.

I know Helium Premium will do it without root because I have done it before. It restores all data and apps at the same time. It's a great app and in my opinion its comparable to Titanium. I haven't used it in a long time, but it worked like a charm last time when I used it.

It transferred most everything, I was actually impressed. It didn't do my email account and settings, not my app logins, but everything else was just like my note 5.

for the most part it transfer everything. sticky note widgets, yahoo mail app with log in data, phone internal sd card data, call log, txt etc...
settings, ringtone ,alarms etc...
However the cable setup didnt work for me so i ended up using the pc app.
was surprised how everything was back in order

It copy all my apps etc I use a different launcher and I have a backup of that most of the stuff i ise is in my home screen so setup is very easy.

It will copy the apps but the not the data. For example facebook, amazon. It will not restore your login info and you will need to log in again. Same with games. It will not restore your score etc.

I can confirm that the statement above is pretty much correct.
I effectively tried all the transfer methods they have.
1) phone to phone with cable
2) phone to phone via wifi direct connection
3) phone to sdcard to phone via backup to and restore from scard
4) phone to computer to phone via smart switch on a Windows computer

Just like the other guy who made a thread about wifi performance. I would get very slow wifi performance every time I used smart switch. Once I set it up clean I was fine. In the end I decided that smart switch doesn't copy app data anyway so why use it.

Hi guys, I use this thread to tell you my experience with smart switch.
I thinked that this app can backup all the phone settings and all the apps settings..
But.. not?
I have a Galaxy S8 that i had to reset to factory defaults, I have restored backup hoping that all the settings of phone and apps will be restored.. but it has partially restored settings and only the apps (without the related settings)..
What I can do to backup all the settings from phone and apps to avoid losing one hour to manually restore phone when I reset to default?
Thank you a lot.

so is there any way that we dont have to login in all apps again please?

[Q] How The Hell Do You Backup Apps and App Settings?!

How do you backup apps and app settings without rooting?
I have tried Kies Air and Android Manager but they don't work.
My wireless ip that the apps say I should register is 192.168.2.14, but when I do an ipconfig, only 192.168.2.13 shows up. I can't ping 192.168.2.14. I've also tried reinstalling my wireless card drivers and resetting my computer.
I read that with 2.2, Google supposedly backs-up your app settings, but it doesn't! My phone crashed and I reinstalled all the same apps manually and none of the app settings came back! For example, for call block apps, I had to input all the blocked numbers again manually.
Is there a USB based solution or an app that will backup app settings?
Just get titanium backup from the market!

Dropbox with titanium backup

Any difference between using the Dropbox feature in titanium backup and titanium media sync?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
dropbox is free
Dropbox is free, Titanium media sync is 3.03 in the market and uses the dropbox service, titanium backup if you purchase it, also has a dropbox feature in it. My question is there any advantage or difference between using the media sync and the built in dropbox with the purchased version of titanium backup.
I know drop box in TiBackup kinda sucks for me. Fails before everything uploads. Also, if your backups on your phone go missing and you want to get them back, don't hit sync with drop box. It syncs the phone to dropbox, not vice versa, so you will lose you're backups. I think media sync is a two way thing.

https://www.dropbox.com/about maybe?
Let me know if you want to sign up and you can use my referral. We both get a little bump in space if you use it for free.
The titanium backup dropbox sync just syncs your backups. Titanium media sync monitors a specific folder on your sd card and when it sees a new file, like when you take a picture, it uploads it to dropbox.

An old topic, I know but I was searching for a reason why my connection keeps failing before my Dropbox upload completes.
I solved the problem by connecting to my PC using Internet PassThrough and it all uploaded smoothly and faster.
I am a pro user of Titanium Backup. I have enabled the dropbox feature but now the button in the main screen has disappeared and i can't synchronize the folder. I have already enabled the Dropbox feature through Settings. Also it says that is enabled in the main screen. What is happened? Any suggestion?

[Q] WhatsApp can't detect the device

Hi all,
I just installed CM9 Alpha 2 on my TP (finally!) and so far I am loving it. However, I'm having issues with WhatsApp saying
Alert
We can't identify your device. Please turn off the phone, take out the battery, restart it and try it again.
Note: tablets are currently not supported.

However, some people with the Xoom tablet (and other tablets) can actually run WhatsApp. I dunno if they hacked the app or something but I've seen reports that it actually works on a tablet. I researched that they just downloaded the app directly from Whatsapp, not from the market. I've done that already and still have the problem.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks
For tablets without 3g function (wifi only) I have discovered the only way to use Whatsapp on such a device is as followed:
1. Grab your normal phone
2. Use Titanium Backup and Backup your current Whatsapp.apk and data
3. Install Whatsapp (download from the site f.e) on your tab but don't open the app yet.
4. Transfer backed up data to your tab in a (newly made) folder called TitaniumBackup
5. Open TB and scroll to Whatsapp and restore data.
6.Open Whatsapp now and you have Whatsapp running on your tab.
Make sure you have opened up a few conversations with the people you want chat with so those conversations are there.
Disadvantage is when you open Whatsapp on your phone again, it won't show the chats you have on your tab and vice versa.
Good luck

I actually might have to register a different phone number with this one so I can use individually. But it was great that you showed me how to make it work
Go phone sim card FTW!

Yeah I know, had mentioned that in my post unfortunately
Good idea is indeed to buy a random SIM card, place it, register and open up all the chats with people you want to chat with and transfer data at least that number will be registered and rdy to use on your tab, good luck!

So, if you own an iPhone, are out of luck to get this running on the touchpad?
i think so cuz the titanium backup file carries our phone numbers and our stored chats....don't want you using our numbers lol but hey you could put ur sim into a friend's rooted android phone and register the whatsapp through there....and then take that backup file to your touchpad

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't have access to an android phone on my network (my gf has android on Verizon, I have att so that's a no go). I guess I'll have to wait for whatsapp to approve tablets.

Lost all files on /sdcard when transfering files from PC

I just tried to transfer files from my PC (Win7) via USB MTP onto my Nexus7 which seemed to work as usual. When I tried to locate them on the tablet, I noticed that the complete /sdcard folder is still there, but empty. Also the /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/emulated.
This actually happend the second time, but the first time I just had updated to 4.2.1 and I thought I must've missed some instructions about backing up the files first, so I (falsely) assumed it was my error.
The device is the 16gb wifi only version running current android 4.2, it's been rooted after purchase in summer using Nexus Root Toolkit 1.5.3. I just use the usual popular play store apps like nova launcher, total commander, firefox and stuff, nothing special.
I couldn't find anyone on the internet with a similar issue, so I put this here.
//edit1: I have only one user set up: me alias the owner.
Hi have a look at your settings in multi user accounts. It hides them so others can not see them

I fail to see how that should affect why I don't "see" my files anymore. I haven't switched the user, I only have one: the owner. May you please make your point more clear?
You can alter where things are stored. Have you connected back to pc to search tab that way. Check storeage settings did you use ptp or mtp for transfer

I used MTP. The tablet looks empty from "within" via Totalcommander & EStrong Filemanager. Also other apps like music don't see my files. Storage shows suspiciously much free space, I guess it's really gone. From PC it looks the same, completely wiped. It recreated the /sdcard/Android-Folder, and the Apps I've used since recreated their folders... I can't find where you meant I could alter where things are stored. Storage just let's me delete stuff and users just let's me edit the away-message.
Thanks anyway so far.
Hi I use wifi file explorer. Try that to transfer your files and let me know how it goes. Its in the playstore/market

How to transfer data when smart switch won't work?

I'm coming from a rooted, rommed Note 4. I'm used to using Titanium Backup for backup and restore, but obviously, lacking root on the Note 7, that's not an option. I tried Smart Switch, but it isn't transferring the data I really need, like for Signal Messenger or Google Authenticator. Helium (pro) also won't work for these. Am I out of luck?
I also came from a Note 4. I could not get Smart Switch to work using cables as I was instructed on the phone. I went to a TMO store and the tech tried Smart Switch putting both phone on the same wifi network. Then everything transferred fine.
Yeah, I got it to transfer over wireless too, but it didn't transfer the data for certain apps, most crucially, Google Authenticator and Signal Messenger.

Smart Switch wouldn't install on my Nexus 6 from the Play Store, and the cable method wouldn't work either. So, I installed and re- set-up every single app manually. This was before I found out about Helium. Makes you REALLY miss Titanium Backup. But, at least the phone is fresh with fresh installs of everything.
