Is there any way to repack the Telus ROM so that it can be flashed on the AT&T version without tripping the flag counter?

just curious why you would want to flash the Telus ROM? is it better than the AT&T one? is the only issue with it is the increase of the flash counter? ie exact same hardware so should work?

The Telus ROM comes with native wireless tethering enabled. It's absent in the AT&T ROM. As far as I can tell, bloatware removal still won't enable it on the AT&T ROM, and the solution most have resorted to is using third party apps which are usually worse for battery life than native tethering.

ah good to know thanks. wonder how the Bell and Rogers ROMS compare?

Bloatware can be removed in the ATT ROM. I tried the Telus and wiped cache/data/factory reset, all to no avail. Besides cranking up the custom flash counter, the lockscreen doesn't respond 9 times out of ten.
YMMV. Good luck if you do try it.

Yes but the important question is, does any of the bloatware removal you can do to the AT&T ROM result in functional native tethering?
I obviously don't own the device (yet?) so I can't comment, but it looks like some other posters did not have any trouble at all installing the Telus ROM on their AT&T devices and responded very positively to the results.

i should be getting an AT7T version in the next day or so and I will post back with results

Telus/Bell/Rogers ROM shouldn't increment the flash counter since it's an official ROM.

Nonetheless it has been reported that it does increment the flash counter on an AT&T unit.
It could be that the device has a built-in ID that checks whether the ROM you flash matches it, and if not, it increments the counter.

well i got my at&t unit today. tried to flash the telus firmware via odin (did not have the re-partition checked). everything went fine until amss.bin which I think is the modem. now it won't boot and am having trouble flashing with odin. also the flash counter has been incremented.
any tips to at least get this restored?

ok got the at&t firmware back. just couldnt get the telus firmware flashed in odin. any tips?

I'm wondering if the system.img and boot.img from the Odin file could just be flashed manually using dd in recovery (possibly catastrophic if done wrong, so take a nandroid backup first).
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

ok finally got the Telus ROM flashed. they trick was to root and install custom recovery first. then it doesnt care about the security error on the odin flash. imho telus rom much cleaner and closer to "stock". also, dont use sp.telus.com as apn on the at&t rom, it results in data overages.

Haha sorry for the blow by blow updates. The first root method does not seem to work on the telus rom. Will try 2nd method later.

Somehow got it rooted with method 1 eventually.

I tested. It does increment the counter. I believe (but have no firm proof) that any non-ATT kernel flashed via ODIN will increment it.
Then there's the problem of ODIN being unable to flash the modem due to "security fail". Like a bootloader lock?
In other news, the Skyrocket guys have an update.zip that fixes the custom flash counter! All it takes is one person who hasn't increased their counter extracting a special file. Not sure exactly which one.
So even if you've flashed Telus onto an ATT device there's hope to clean up the counter.

I've heard there's a second counter on some Samsung devices, that counts when you reset the first counter

[Q] Flashing Bell Galaxy S

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right section. I attempted to flash my Bell Galaxy S with the [ROM] Bionix 1.9 - JI6 OTA Build - Oops I did it again *10/14/10* and basically it installed no problem, but once it did my phone would no longer connect to the network at all. No voice or data connection just sat on searching. I restored from my nandriod backup and to my horror, still no network connection (voice or data), wifi and everything else worked fine. I ended up doing a lot of reading and staying up until 8AM to get everything fixed, felt a little stupid once i knew how-to fix it.
But now to my question, if i want to flash one of the roms, is there any special procedure that i need to follow to not loose my cell network? Any help would be fantastic
LOL... Thats sux's anyways you can't flash that rom. its not for your phone you have a GT-I9000... that rom you have flashed is for the SGH-T959.... You will need to download Odin 1.3 and flash back the whole JH2 firmware to get your radio files back. or download any rom from the i9000 forums and flash it.. but the only way to get 850mhz back is to flash to the stock JH2 firmware. unless you know what your doing and know how to flash just the radio files. you can also try kies with a reg hack to flash different firmwares.. just look around in the i9000 forums..
Go to samsung-firmwares.com and download the JH2 firmware then flash it back. Tmobile Vibrant is different from the i9000x line of phones.
I think you guys misunderstood, I have fixed it already using ODIN. I was just wondering what was flashable without breaking my radio.

Rogers tab 7" convert to phone questions

hi all
i picked up a used rogers galaxy tab 7".upgraded to 2.3.3 official via kies.
GT-P1000R
rooted it.
unlocked it.
now i wish to use the phone capabilities and have a few questions.
i see in a couple posts that you no longer have to flash a complete rom, just a modem.
is that info correct?
i see that the jm2 modem seems to work best with the rogers tab,so do i just flash the modem with odin and that gives me the voice capability.
or do i need to flash a complete rom(European)?
also there is no dialer program so where do i get that at?or does it come with the modem flash.
is there a better modem than jm2 for the rogers tab?or the bell i9000 modem?
i am in canada
thanks,jeff

you need a euro based rom (official or custom) and bell i9000 modem.

which european rom would work best with the rogers tab.

Careful what you flash though, if it's from XDA any ROM should do you okay but Samsung official ROMs may contain locked boot loaders. Catch up on some reading before doing anything.
Also i suggest that you do a complete backup of your tab before flashing anything else so that you could revert back in case of issues. Stock ROGERS firmware is hard to find. And if you do a backup I wouldn't mind a copy of it as long as you keep your personal information out. As a matter of fact, what i am after is a un-rooted fully stock ROGERS ROM. As i have deleted my original backup, and would like to revert completely back to stock, I would be very thankfull if you could help. But none the less you should do a complete backup, something like the roto or nandroid backups.
Try the OVERCOME rom, it's a great place to start as a noob to flashing, they have very detailed tutorials and the ROM is good.
EDIT: And the OVERCOME rom does work with the bell i9000 modem just fine for phone calls. Although the volume on the tab is not the greatest for a speakerphone.

unlocked using galaxy s unlock from market.
can i even revert back to stock?if so i will do a backup.
i have done nothing else to the stock rogers 2.3.3

Thanks for the offer. But no need to go through all of that unless you can un root with something like super one click (fast and easy, but I don't think that will work for you). If your tab is still under warranty you might want to learn how to root and unroot and restock and such (its all covered in the forums). Otherwise I don't want you playing with your tab and have a "bad" flash trying to help me out. Do read up in the dev section before you start flashing custom ROMs.
That said if you do feel comfortable flashing and decide to make a backup for yourself I definitely wouldn't mind a copy.
RED
hi
not scared of bricking the tab,i have been flashing samsungs for the last couple years, captivates etc.my last tab i did a supposed gps fix which ended in a bootloop.
i managed to get it back but with a modified 2.2 firmware.then kies would not let me upgrade to 2.3.3(unofficial firmware error)
my problems have always been actually returning to stock.
in recovery i have the orange clockwork recovery that has an option to do factory reset.will this take me back to unrooted and unlocked???
if so consider it done.
i will need direction to do a full backup after that.
jeff
Doing a hard reset will NOT un-root or re-lock your device (as far as I know). The factory reset will clear the data and cache and should not touch the system. You have to un-root your device using the method you rooted it with or something along those lines.
As far as a backup is concerned, creating a system backup has been covered in the forums before. There is plenty of detailed instructions on performing a backuphave a look at the Roto Backup method.
Just picked up a galaxy tab ( rogers )
gt-p1000r
firmware 2.2
all stock
no root
no unlock
I would like to "give back" something
for all the HELLp you guys have given via these forums
( i swear all my grey hair started once i dumped my blackberry and went samsung and found this site! )
Anyway
If you are still looking for the a copy of the STOCK system before I start to play...
I will try to figure out how to make a copy for you

[Q] Returning the SGS to stock

Hi,
I'm about to upgrade to a new phone (Galaxy Note) and I'll be trading in my old SGS. I've flashed it with Darky's ROM several times and I'm conscious that I'll probably need to get it back to the original state in order to trade it in.
I've read several threads about reflashing teh stock ROMs but they all seem to be quite complicated. Does anyone know of a nice'n'clear guide for restoring the SGS? I've used Odin before so feel confident but would like to make absolutely sure I'm doing it right.
As an aside has anyone traded a flashed phone in to one of teh phones-for-cash sites and had any problems? Maybe I could avoid having to revert to stock.
Many thanks.
First of all you need official, stock ROM from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ for example. Then flash with ODIN as ussual. It's quite easy
Here is the link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
Don't forget, that because you've changed the rom, you've also lost the warranty sadly

[Q] No network after successful Root?

Ok folks,
Forgive me if this is a panic post!
I successfully rooted my note this morning, I was on LA6 firmware, Downgraded and rooted without any problems.
I noticed that I only had "emergency calls only" after the reboot, so went into mobile network settings and managed to get a signal on my network (3uk) although it dropped again when I rebooted again?
Right after the Rooting was done, I backed up my EFS folder as stated is best practice, then backed up the stock rom.
I thought that maybe the old baseband version was giving me the issues (I presume the notes modem is similar to the HTC radio?) so I went ahead and gave Checkrom NoteHD V6 a shot. It all installed fine and as it should but I still have the no network issue. I dont think it corrupted the efs system as I can still use wifi and my IMEI number is still there.
Any ideas for a new note owner?
Edit:
-----------
I did make note that I was on Baseband XXLA4 before rooting or flashing anything, is it safe to go ahead and flash it from the modems thread via CWM? Should this help?
any pointers if doing so?

You may have already tried this but are your APN settings correct?
They may change or get deleted between ROM flashes
Also what modem do you have and baseband in the about phone menu right now?
Wow, that was quick!
My APN settings all seem fine. The preset for three.co.uk were still there and the settings inside seem intact.
Im currently running baseband XXLB2.

How did you root your note? I am on 3 in the UK with same firmware, have been looking around but not much progress.

First thing first...
- do the hard reset Vol Up + Menu + Power *or* CWM Wipe everything. Reboot...
- Still no go, go and download different radio HERE and flash it

So went ahead and flashed XXLA4 (my original modem) - Nothing,
Just tried the KL1 modem -Nothing! GRRRRR!
Maybe I will try to go back to stock, I was on the LA6 firmware, See if that works.
sorry m8, couldn't help much...
is that phone carrier locked?
i suggest, flash CheckRoom v6 (the most professional stock look-alike rom). If the problem still there, try flash another radio. After that if still no go... try CM9/AOSP ICS

No, no carrier lock, no branding, no nothing!
Just been racking my brains, after refering to a video link posted in the how to root galaxy note thread, I see a chap called cursed4eva created a video using ODDKL1 as the downgrade to root method. Just checked on samfirmware.com and that is Indian firmware, could this cause my network issue?
Im in the process of downloading the lastest Uk firmware now.
If it was the case that this indian firmware was causing the issue, wouldnt flashing checkrom fix it? I didnt seem to for me?
Anyway, rooting around on the samfirmware pages, ive found a directly rootable firmware package (KK3) that was a carphone warehouse UK one.
If I get network back from the latest firmware, im going to downgrade to the above mentioned carphone warehouse package, Root, and try again.
I will post back some results ASAP.

AT&T Note 3 (USA) - Emergency Call Only

Hi Everyone,
I am kind of lost in the upgrade process.
6 months ago, my Samsung Note 3 (USA AT&T) phone was working perfectly fine, but just with OLD firmware. ,then due to urge on upgrading, i searched so many sites and found a link somewhere on droidviews.com (as my firmware was NJ1 or something, website said i need to upgrade to NC2, and then to OC1), this process messed up my phone call receiving & making capabilities.
Most of the time callers see me unreachable and I am unable to call them as i get "emergency calls only"....I still don't have a way out from this issue. Some places I read i need to install right CSC / modem etc, I even tried this thread by reflashing using ODIN & N900AUCUEOC1_N900AATTEOC1_N900AUCUEOC1_HOME.tar. Even after this, i still have calls related issues same as above.
Can someone guide me to right direct (or) did i totally messed up with this? BTW, i am now in INDIA, using Airtel services...
I believe nj1 firmware is newer than nc2.
The Odin files came from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/general/100-stock-lollipop-5-0-n900aucueoc1-t3069609 ?

Thanks. I tried flashing to OC1, still same problem. my calls are mostly not working. Is there a way i can go back to original 4.3 stock rom that came with Note3 AT&T? or is there a way i can get current AT&T rom (latest) to try with?
Good part is, i can go between 4.4.3 and 5.0 as i have original stock roms downloaded. But bad part is, my calls still failing...
appreciate any clue/help.
Where did you get the stock ROM? AT&T never released full firmware for the 900a.
There is no way to go back fully to 4.3 since the phone bootloader can be downgraded to 4.3.

Hi, i downloaded NC2 & OC1 stock firmwares from XDA only. they are loading up fine (using ODIN). But my calling problem remains same.
So, Yesterday, i tried rooting the phone and installed AllianceROM. then i went into series of issues like "unfortunately NFC has stopped", "unfortunately settings has stopped" etc... then followed the instruction to wipe/factory reset, 3 to 4 times and disabled NFC services etc. As of now, phone works fine, but still need to check the calling function for a week...
thanks for your time.

Are we SOL with 900a? I was in the wrong forum earlier and was ready to use update to 7...until I realized it wasn't for me.
Dying on Lollipop (where I landed after the 7 fallout)
I re-read my post and noticed that I made an error: the bootloader on an n900a CANNOT be downgraded.
You cannot flash any ROM to the phone using TWRP, you must use flashfire. Only ROMs based on the stock Samsung ROM can be flashed to the n900a.
