A lot of the time when i am typing on my phone with Swype, i get errors and just completely wrong word suggestion.
Example: Typing a full word without lifting my thumb from the screen, but it picks up 2+ random words. -or- It will not let me use the backspace key; I press and hold, but when nothing happens and i lift my thumb off the screen, it just says "Please try again."
I don't really see it with the screen, like when i'm in the browser just scrolling or playing a game. I don't know if it's just swype or if it's the built-in keyboard, as well. I've already had the phone replaced with a 'like new' substitute due to this problem. Prior to replacement, the phone was factory reset, with minimal apps reinstalled. Now my replacement phone is also doing it.
I do use GOSMS as my texting app so i can backup messages.
Phone is stock on latest OTA update, never rooted.
Anyone else seeing things like this?

I tried searching my issue but there was nothing I found relating to it...
Last couple of days I've had an annoying issues to say the least, while typing up a message or adding a note in my calendar, the typing will stop and I'm basically stuck staring at the static screen. The phone isn't frozen, since the cursor bar is still flashing where the input stopped responding, and I am able to call upon the windows taskbar/menu by pressing the windows logo on the keyboard. If I'm lucky I can also flip the keyboard back inside and the orientation will change if the phone is still somewhat responsive by that point.
Otherwise there isn't much I can do, except do a soft reset by shoving the stylus in the reset hole.
The problem seems to be localized within the calendar app or the text messaging app, because I'm able to switch to a different application if im quick enough, however trying to terminate the problematic calendar or messaging app, it won't shut down.
I hope my detailed description will produce an answer - I'd hate to have to go and flash a new rom and all that business because of this issue.
Thanks for reading.
If you're using custom ROM, I suggest you post at the custom ROM thread. If you're using stock ROM, then perhaps there're some corruption and you might need hard reset.
(Beware, if you use WM 6.5 custom, and didn't flash OEM before flashing custom, you'll get reminded by others that you should flash OEM before flashing 6.5)
thx 4 the tip
So today I woke up to my G1's Alarm going off as usual. I hit the snooze button for about 2 hours before finally getting up and going through my text messages. I went to my first text and tried to type the letter "i". However, when striking the key, it exited my thread. Thinking it was a fluke or that I was still half asleep I tried 3 or four more times before rebooting and waiting through my long boot screen to find the same problem. Certain keys were typing whatever they wanted. The "o" key would type "kbv+" then open a google search. Some other keys were acting funny also, so the first thing I did was a nandroid backup followed by a wipe and reboot. Same problem. I wiped and reformatted again, still to no avail, this time not using my sd card so that my apps were not loaded. Thinking it might be physical I stripped the phone down to its core checked all my connections etc, and rebuilt it and wiped again. Still nothing. This weird keyboard error keeps happening, and I would really prefer to use my actual keyboard instead of a virtual one. On a side note, running console from my recovery menu allows me to type normal keys. Anyone have any ideas? Ive looked around for awhile and some people mentioned the problem but noone seems to have a solution. If you were wondering I am running Cynagen 2.1, well was..>>..
My keyboard has started having problems. I hit 1 key and 3 other type and not what I hit. When I try to delete to correct then 7 or 8 other figures type out.
I have rebooted (cold restart) and still having problems.
Any suggestions besides wiping and reloading?
Thanks,

You may try other keyboards. I was having the same issues with the GB board. Switched to swifkey. It is a paid app but I have no issues with it.

Sounds like you got a dirty screen. Maybe a little speck you don't notice. I've had that before. Dampen a paper towel or cloth with water and give the screen a good once over. Finish off with a micro-fiber cloth, if you have one. That's what I do when what I touch isn't being recognized properly.
I installed a 'freebee' keyboard and that seemed to clear up some of the problems but it occasionally messes up. It is something I can live with till the next reflash.
Thanks all...
I was having the same problem and read somewhere that if your nook is charging by being plugged into the wall charger the keyboard acts crazy.
As long as I don't have it plugged in my keyboard is fine.
Keyboard will not display anymore (Clicked Gingerbread in settings)
I'm having an issue being able to get the keyboard back. While in the N.C. settings, i clicked on Keyboard to see what options were listed in there. There was Keyboard, and Gingerbread Keyboard as two options. i clicked Gingerbread but now do not see any keyboard come up on display when i click into any field that is editable.
Any ideas of how this is reset or reloaded to the normal keyboard? I am new with the Nook so i'm not real familiar (obviously).
thanks in advance.
Under apps go to NookColor Tools
then choose keyboard and go back to the regular keyboard
Thank you
Hey i just found the NookColor Settings, that is where i was, not the native settings menu. this allows the switch back to android keyboard..................
And i just saw the response above. Thank you as well for that!
Now if i can just get GMAIL to login for me. I believe there is a thread about getting rid of the cache from youtube and gmail (since i had already logged in under my name before the root that i performed, the NC isn't accepting the login it just returns me to sign-in / sign-up screen). If anyone has that in their memory please post the link, or i'll search around for it.
I didn't see this little fact posted so I'll do it. When you change the keyboard that you're going to use, and it's the first time entering text, do a long click on the text input window. It should come up with a pop-up window asking you which keyboard you want to use to enter the text.
Hope this helps.
I have an issue with keyboards on DDKL5 and KL1 stock ROMs. Here's how to recreate the situation:
1. Keep a text box focused - talk, market, messaging, any text box - and the keyboard open (any keyboard, including Samsung keypad/Swype).
2. Let the screen time-out. (Wait till it turns off)
3. Press a button to turn on the screen, you should be presented with the same text box.
4. Type something.
Here is where the problem is : The keyboard won't type anything at all. You'll be pressing buttons, it'll be suggesting words, but there will be no text output on screen. The only way to get it to write is to restart the app, or wait for some 30 seconds.
Anybody else have this problem?
I'm rooted, running CF root kernel.
Even i was using DDKL5 for couple of days and felt bit lagging compared to LA6.. so i switched back to LA6..

I thought so...If it were a widespread issue, there would be more threads about it
I keep having these weird issues all the time. On my laptop, KIES won't start. Anyhow, that's another thing. I'll go dunk my head in a bucket of cold water, see if that helps. I could also try to flash a clean stock ROM, full wipe and all, and see if the issue persists, then restore each app one by one to see what's causing the problem. Too much work!
Thanks for telling me
I have no issue on LA5 or never on any previous ROM KL7/LA1/3/4
I think you shold have backup user data with titanium backup or else you feel better. Hard reset device n just restore user application. Dont restore any sustem junk of previous backup. You can backup Contacts with inbuilt function, SMS with many application available on Market. Hope problem should be get solved.
Having an issues with the device where while I'm typing something, it hits the back button/function once or twice. It is not random as in hitting the same letter will make it do the same back bug. When doing a new, say text, that spot will no longer do a back bug, but a new spot will.
Not always but about 1/3rd the time. Super frustrating as typing something into google search cancels the entire thing and I have to reset chrome to not get the back bug in the same spot.
I have googled this and have not found a solution. Nor was there anything posted here about it.
I dont believe I am having the frozen screen issue, as this is different.
Thank you.
