Supplied in this zip below is a slightly modified eri.xml file from the EVO forum. This file will go directly in /data. The permissions should be full, meaning...in root explorer if you long-press on the eri.xml file and select "permissions" all boxes should be checked.
1. Download eri.xml.zip
2. Extract and put the eri.xml file in /data
3. Change permissions either by rootexplorer
By default is says "Google" for the banner.
Changing the banner text to what you want: if you open up eri.xml you will see "Google" 3 times. Replace the word Google with what you want your banner to be. Make sure to have all three say the exact same thing.

When you say drop in data, what do you mean?
If this tool/app is for the Nexus S 4G CDMA, why didn't you just post this in the Nexus S 4G Development thread instead of this one?
it's in /data/ that I should place the file and give full permissions, right?
it didn't work for me. can others confirm that it works?
hm...does being on ICS ROM matter?

This half way worked, it added the "Google" text to the banner but it didn't get rid of the carrier ID text. No apps I've tried thus far have been able to get rid of the carrier name on the lock screen or notification banner.

I tried to replace my old phone.apk with this one and set the permissions correctly, but I ended up getting alot of force closed.
Would it be possible to replace it in my rom and re flash it?
Has anybody seen the mms app for the sgs2, ported to the Captivate?
looking for this too....
Yea I tried to remove the mms.apk from the sgs rom ' have installed and replace it with the mms.apk from the sgs2. It thinks about it but doesn't open.

I read somewhere that someone pulled the images from the GS2 MMS apk and used them with the native MMS apk. It's fairly simple to do (extracting the apk and replacing the images with APK manager).

Cool. I'll take a look at this a little later. Was there something specific people wanted from the GS2 MMS apk? Message bubbles? If it's something that's just an image, I can replace those.

Ah. Well, the only thing I can tell you is to try extracting the MMS apk out of one of the custom ROMs (stock based). It might behave differently.
i tried that. its not even regonised as an app.
i remember this when i was on 2.2 and going to put a 2.3 mms.apk on it and there was not even an icon for it in file manager.
when i upgraded to 2.3 the icon appeared.
Same circumstance here. on 2.3 and my original mms.apk shows an icon, and the new mms.apk does not. its not configured for 2.3

Well yea it is. All of the SGS2 roms are based on GB, however it is also built on a Samsung SGS2 source code, where as most of the rom's here are based on the Nexus One source code. This could be the conflict and why I was asking someone with better knowledge then myself for help.
Everything you tried,I did as well.
So now back to square 1
Maybe you can try Hawkish ROM for Captivate.... (It's a closed tread now, so you gotta search in Development section)... It has some apps from SGS2 like social hub, mms, email and they work.... Just make sure to flash DarkCore Kernel 4.1 for captivate and a compatible modem....!!
If someone could that MMS app from HAWKISH get it to work... Please tell us. It looks greaaaaaaat!!
Use this port. It works and is based off of hawkish.

That's because its a system app. You have to put it in /system/app/ with a root capable file explorer. Change permissions to match the rest of the apps there too.

Yes indeed! I guess I forgot to mention that I'm one of the low-life bums who haven't rooted yet (might not either) and am wondering if someone can create an installable .apk . I realize the earlier version that was posted is installable, but as was stated in the post, the resolution is not correct.
Just root it... I rooted mine within about 10 minutes of ownership
I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS. THIS IS FROM A THUNDERBOLT ROM.
pretty nice tho
AND A REMINDER THIS IS A SYSTEM APP SO IT WONT INSTALL JUST BY CLICKING INTSTALL
have ROOT go into ROOT EXPLORER go to
system/app and paste the apk over the Vending.apk you already have
scroll down to it and hold down
set permissions to rw-r--r--
. .
.
.
check the 3 going down on the left
and the top middle

Lol sorry.. total idiot moment. Forgot the title was 'ICS themed'. My bad.
I am on RAGE One, and really like it so far. However, I would like to remove the persistent GPS icon. Is there an ADB command that will do it? I tried sense 5 toolbox and OMJ modpack, and the toolbox doesn't work, and the modpack also installs horizontal toggles that I can't remove.
Thanks for the help guys.

Do you still have the GPS removal zip laying around? Will it work for 4.4.2?
I have tried a couple of the ones floating around here, but none seem to work as before. I have even tried to edit the icon via ES file explorer, but it won't stick after a reboot.
