Hi there! Anybody know a wifi widget on home screen that shows available hotspots? (something like the shortcuts from the home screen of nokia n95 or e72 )
I know about the notification from wifi settings but it takes a while until the "hotspots are available" message pops up and it's a bit annoying. Just wanted to know if there is such a widget
L.E. After wrestling a little bit harder with google i found something like what i was looking for. Actually two apps that i'm going to test further in order to see which fit better to my needs.(on google play search either wifi network switcher or wifi manager and you will find them)

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you all know about our latest application in the Android Market called No Signal Alert. Here is the description found in the market:
Ever missed an important call because your phone was in your pocket and you never realized you had no signal? Not anymore! No Signal Alert detects when your phone is in a "dead zone" or with zero bars and sends a status bar alert followed by a short vibration. The alert will automatically clear itself when phone has signal.
It is a simple tool that monitors when your phone is in a "dead zone" or has zero bars, once it detects this it will send a status bar notification message followed by a short vibration to inform the user about this.
We want to hear from you guys and see what other additions we can come up for future releases. The application right now is a simple toggle but it seems like everyone wants to see a UI as well as some customization of alerts so we will definetly consider those for next update.
Here is a link to the Android market:

If you guys have any questions or feedback please send e-mail us at [email protected].
Thanks!
Alex
Nice app , I always wondered why G1 did not have it by default.
Excellent idea. I rarely get into situations like this, but the small size makes it worth downloading for those rare times I do.
I'd love to see this app paired up with some geocaching to allow users to map deadzones.
Nice app, but if I were to actually install it I'd want it to force a reconnection too.
E.g. automate Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networks > Operator Selection > T Mobile
I currently have an anycut shortcut on the homescreen which opens the Operator Selection page.
Kool Idea and I salute u for makin the app(I sure as hell cant make 1) but I dont think its that useful. Like if im using my phone and lose the signal, im gonna notice it because I have no bars or if im sending a text, it wont send. And if its in my pocket and I miss a call bcuz I have no service ill see that.

The only app so far that I have seen that does verbal turn by turn navigation is the TeleNav app, but I really don't want to pay $10 a month for that, and I still have a regual GPS in the car for now, although it does need new maps it work for the time being.
As for turn by turn without verbal cues there are a few ways to accomplish this, one is Bing maps, it will give you turn by turn directions. Also you can create tiles for internet sites like Mapquest, and Google Maps, just open the site in your browser and go to the get directions page, then what I have done is zoom into the logo on the page with the name and in the lower right corner tap the three dots and a menu will appear that gives you the option to "pin to start" which then creates a tile on your start page that links directly to that page and the image on the tile is the zoomed image of the webpage's title where you zoomed in.
Hopefully in the coming months there will be more option for navigation apps, and verbal turn by turn, the OS is still very new and everyday there seem to be many new apps. Time and patience will tell.

NC with CM7 - my first android device. I'm finding that a lot of the widgets I have tried don't seem to refresh. I was really looking forward to homescreen "mission control" with all kinds of info live updating. Things I have tried that don't refresh:
-Yahoo Sportacular - It is still showing some game from 3 weeks ago even after opening the app. Also, is there an option to make it show all scores, not just my favorites?
-HeavensAbove (satellite & space station tracking) - only refreshes if I open the app
-News - I forget the exact name of this builtin android widget, small black box is supposed to be showing news stories, but is a week behind
There are a couple more that I can't remember at the moment.
So, is this a general android issue, a problem with each widget, problem with the nook, ???
Also made sure the sync option in android is set.
I did a couple searches in the forums and couldn't come up with anything.
Thanks!

You using a task killer? If so, stop.
and you might try removing and re-adding the widgets.
No, no task killer. I haven't installed or used one.
I've had issues with widgets too: I tried to add multiple battery widgets, however, none of them would appear under the widgets category in the long-press add to home screen.
Thought I'd share this with everyone. We all know the new moto x is coming in a few weeks and if your like me and can't wait I found a solution.
I found 2 of the main features.
I) active notifacations : in the play store but personaly i like my lock screen the way it is so I use knock2. This app will display your notifications when the phone is sleeping without waking it also halo works with it so no more needing to wake your phone to check or reply to notifications. Only problem is knock2 doesnt time out when it receives a notifications but thats ok for me since I don't always check messages right away also disply times out when in my pocket. but if thats a problem use active notifications
2) Open Mic for Google Now - its an advanced voice search for jelly bean it allow you open Google Now using an custom phrase. can be activated using hotward phrase or wave. The dev is working on adding addition voice commands that Google doesn't support.

Utter for those who wants total hands free experience.
So i wanted to discuss installing NULL but not everything in Aroma to get a Stock look and feel but benefits of some NULL advantages.
if this type thread already exist i didnt see it.
my reason for this is although i can read and follow directions the NULL setup to replicate what i like about stock takes a lot of work with widgets etc.. to get clock face and all the stock look and feel i like.
here is a post by mmick over here that i am quoting to show the setup i am liking and asking others to give some input:

I confess that I searched about Xposed Framework and Gravity Box and... I also did not understand fully what they are or what they do! (perhaps I am getting too old )
AFAIK, generally they allow you to change some items/properties from the ROM and installed APKs...without physically changing the ROMs/APKs. (please someone correct me, and please get something more in detail).
Though I did not make use of it on my Gear, as I just want a "middle tunning", so I installed Null_ ROM just with GAPPs and keyboard, everything else stayed (like Samsung´s Launcher, key settings and default "wipe movement" settings).
What did I install to make full use of what I make BUT without making Gear slow:
- K9 Email app (veeeery small and light. It also enables "share to Email" option on default Camera app)
- Opera mini (for what you could search on Gear, it works extremely well and fast. It also compresses internet data, which is excelent as Gear´s BT connection is rather slow, and it also saves some 3G Data)
- Amazon app (imperative to compare prices)
- Idealo app (I live in Germany, fantastic to compare prices. It is also a light app)
- Button Savior for ROOT devices (Sometimes, like in Amazon app, you do not see the "settings" button. With Button savior, you can turn whenever you want "onscreen buttons", like "back" "settings" "home", etc. If you buy the PRO version, is even better!)
- Google Translate (it works extremely well).
- Bluetooth Settings shortcut (this is a free app, it allows you to directly go to BT Settings, and enable BT Internet Teethering. I tried the app "Bluetooth Auto Connect" but it does have too many options and too big for Gear IMHO. This BT shortcut does the trick and it uses only a couple of Kb)
- gReader (with Dark theme: it saves battery on AMOLED devices!)
PS: if you set on each E-mail, RSS, Amazon, etc "Auto-Sync Off", "Notifications Off", "Push off",etc it will save you a lot of battery and will make your Gear faster.
That´s it. In the moment my Gear has Playstore, etc etc and works as fast as before, battery life is so good as the original but with much more functions. Gear WAS dumb, now with Null_´s ROMs it is SMART
With Null_16 I get: 1 full Day playing around too much (vacations day); 2 full Days (normal working day where I use it each hour to do some stuff, talk around 15 min /day through the Gear, Emails, etc); 3 full Days (when I´m busy and I just see the time, and a couple of pictures / Google Translate / check couple e-mails); 4 full Days (when I just check the clock and to see some Notifications). PS: At night (for 8h) I turn the Gear off.
