[Q] Have I permanently damaged my phone? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just attempted to root my Galaxy Note using the instructions found on the development forum and I thought everything went well. Now, however, once the phone starts it wont turn on again - if I press the power button the screen back light comes on but thats it. I have to remove the battery to restart it, but then the same thing happens again. Any idea how to fix this?

Will it go into download mode if so flash a stock rom with odin

Power off your phone - take out your battery if necessary and wait about a minute, then put it back in.
Press volume up + home + power and hold, see if you can get into Recovery.
If you can, wipe cache, dalvik and do a factory reset.
Try to reboot.

I did all that and everything went through, same problem though after reboot - once the screen turns off, hitting the power button only makes the back light go on and the screen itself doesnt seem to turn on. The phone seems to function "as normal" - it even reboots fine - until I have to turn the screen on using the power button after initially booting it up.

If that's still the case, I'd try to boot into download mode and flash a stock rom (as was suggested above).

[Q] how to enter stock recovery in JB

Hi all,
My phone is EU retail, locked, unrooted. I updated from ICS to JB via manual download of the update and installation via SD card as explained in one of the more popular threads here. Now after the JB update, I want to enter recovery in order to clear the cache.
With ICS, I was perfectly capable to enter the stock recovery. Press power + vol. down for a few seconds, and the (fastboot?) menu appreaed where I could select recovery. Then the dead robot shows up, I pressu vol. up + vol. down and I had the expected options. Now on JB however, this does not work. It does not matter how long i hold power + vol.down, it always boots the system. When I press power + vol. down and keep holding the two buttons, the green LED goes on and off, then the phone vibrates, showes the red M and seemingly starts to boot. Then the screen goes off and it repeats the 3 steps (LED, vibrate, red M) but then goes on to boot up the system...
Is this supposed to happen?
Same here. It looks like there is no Recovery installed at all, so will try to flash one tonight.

I'm new to Motorola so need to ask...what is this stock recovery for? Is it the same as a typical 'custom recovery'? I've never heard of a manufacturer putting on in their ROM...so can I do a normal backup of a ROM or no? Thanks

Thanks, this releasing of the power button while still holding vol. down works reliable to get into fastboot. However, when I select recovery, the screen goes black? Something is not quite right with my phone...
Edit: I seem to get the hang of it. Now I finally get into recovery. When I select it from the fastboot menu, the screen gets black for a couple of seconds and then the dead robot appears. To get the options in recovery, I press both vol up + down at the same time twice. Initially, the layout in recovery is broken up. Just two blue lines at the top and a few characters in green at the left border. Once I press any of the volume buttons, the options finally appear.
Hmm I have not gotten into recovery on JB even once...can't get in.
help please!!
i have de same problem
when i push power button, the green led turns on for a few seconds and then the phone get off... i can not enter into recovery mode either
anyone know how to fix it or fix it already
thanks!! :crying:
The above tip doesn't work for me - either my timing is wrong or I don't understand the instuctions.
Someone else kindly explained it differently and eventually I got it working. That was posted in some other thread and I don't think it was directly related to recovery - I can't even find that post now!
I have found people saying they've got root on the RAZR M on locked bootloader Jelly Bean...but you need to access stock recovery which I can't do now.

That's the original post...I don't fully understand it.
I am grateful to that poster for trying help people - so I don't want to be misunderstood! :good:
If I were to describe the boot process to someone, nothing 'vibrates' - so I don't understand that. My phone doesn't vibrate when boot begins, and no 'i' vibrates either. Also, there are two 'i's. There is the i in Intel and in Inside. I'm guessing it's the first i. Believe me, I have tried 10 combinations like 50 times. I know it can be done, but can't do it using that post.
Nope, someone else explained it differently and I got it the first time. It wasn't a recovery thread so it's hard to find now.
Your Razr does not vibrate after boot? This is strange. Ok, let me try to describe the process based on my Razr i. (As simple as possible)
1. The mobile is turned off
2. Press and hold the Vol- button
3. Now press and hold the Power button and observe the green light. It turns on at the same time I press the Power button. The green light is on for approx. 2 seconds than it turns off.
4. Just at the moment when the green light turns off my Razr vibrates twice within 1 second.
5. I need to release the Power button before the 2. vibration and at least 0,5 seconds later the Vol- button. This is the point to get in the fast boot menu.
Without any vibration you should try to release the Power button just at the moment when the green light turns off - followed by releasing the Vol- button 0,5 seconds later.

Just keep holding it, it takes a bit. The capacitive buttons will flash for a bit but keep holding it and it'll go dark eventually, then try try again. I think it took my six tries for trickdroid with full revovery wipes in between each one...

I had this problem too. What you have to do is have the all in one toolkit and plug your phone to you computer. Then open the toolkit and press "reboot into recovery" it should reboot your phone back to recovery mode. Then proceed to installing your Rom. Remember to not use the touchscreen at ALL when using aroma or your phone will freeze up

aroma has a nasty issue right now where you can use the touch screen to make your selections for options and stuff, BUT sometimes(more often than not) the aroma app will freeze. even if you dont use the touch screen and use the vol/power buttons to make your selections it has more like a 15% to freeze. It has something to do with the way their database is setup i think. if all else fails and your phone freezes. hold down the power button for roughly 15 seconds. this simulates a battery pull. while holding down the power button you should see your back and home buttons flash. Once the flashing has stopped it means the phone should be off. at that point push the power button again for like .5 seconds and the phone should power on. if you want to get into the bootloader to access recovery hold down the vol down button while pushing the power button for the .5 seconds and it should load the bootloader and you can select to enter recovery.
someone else feels my pain. This happened to me Saturday. No matter what my phone wouldn't shut off and adb wouldn't work. I had to just let the battery die.

You need to hold the sensor in front of a very bright light source (did mine in front of a light bulb) and THEN hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
It will reboot. I can almost guarantee it. :good:

[Q] Android Revolution HD 12.2 installation stuck at 0.00%

Hi guys, I am encountering the same problem as the guy mentioned underneath in this post, to which some forum users suggested holding the power + vol down to reboot the phone. However, when I tried to do so, the light of the back and home buttons started flashing instead of the phone rebooting. Would anyone happen to have a solution to the problem I am facing?

I went through the set up screen of Aroma as usual and ticked the options that I have always done but this time the installer is stuck at 0% for well over 2 hours now. The green bar still moves at the bottom but nothing has happened aside from that.
Whats the best way to get out of, what appears to be a frozen installation process? Is it best to just let the phone's battery run down or should I try to force quit the set up process?
Thanks

Keep holding the power button down until the phone reboots, takes a while sometimes. Power and volume down might work also. Holding the phone under a bright light and holding down the power and volume down button is another option.
Once you reboot, just try installing ARHD again...
I don't think hes going to be able to get out of it with the power button, he should use the toolkit to force a reboot. Thats will work 100% of the time.

Power button issue

I just discovered yesterday that my power button seem to be not working. Pressing it doesnt lock the screen and long pressing it doesnt bring up the power options. Tried wiping everything and still the issue remains. When I pull my battery and then insert it back the phone boots itself, as if the power button is pressed all the time (even though i can still click it and its not stuck). Ive been using rom toolbox for the power menu but choosing to turn off the phone makes my phone have a screen freeze, all other options work like reboot, fast reboot, reboot recovery etc. Anyone know how to fix this?
Edit: After a couple of days my power button is working again

How did you get it to work? Or did it started working on it's on? Thanks
I've seen that happen on mine, due to a bad USB charge port. Replaced it, problem disappeared.
Any chance your device sometimes thinks it is docked to a docking station?
Inexpensive part to obtain, less than 10 dollars (usd), takes about 15 minutes or less to replace.
In the 2+ years I've had mine, I've gone through 4 of them LOL...I'm hard on charge ports I guess.

It just started working again. When I turned off my phone to place my sim back and it didnt boot up automatically, I knew the power button is working again. Pressed the power button, device booted up and the issue is gone. I dont know if mh device thinks its docked, i dont have a docking station and ive never had problems with my charging port yet.
I've been using my N7000 for 2 years and this thing happened for 3-4 times. The lock button will be like stop working, sometimes it is like being press all the time and the problem will be sorted out by itself. Normally when this happens, the phone will be laggy and will reboot by itself. Is it a common thing for this phone?how do you get your phone fixed Kcube989?

Is my note 9 bricked?

Hello everybody,
First of all, please forgive my time to time poor english. I tried to fill in my presentation and hope it's ok.
I also want to thanks all the developpers that make a great job to optimise and/or improve stock roms and to help people like me that are not so good in developping.
Let me explain my problem :
I've just bought the Samsung note 9 SM-N960F/DS I was dreaming of.
when I put my sim card inside (a french one) he went on a firmware update, and my phone changed for a french CSC (XEF). Thus, I losed some functions I like, such as SpO2 measure in Samsung Health (I know, it's not so important but...). I couldn't also force the sound in earplugs when phone whas ringing, even by using "Soundabout apk" that was working with my note 4....
I don't know why Samsung changes the available functions regarding the country as we pay the same price for in fact a bunch of functions !!!
I tried to come back to the initial CSC, by flashing an official rom, and following a tutorial on XDA site explaining how to do without rooting, using combination files.
But I certainly made an error as my phone has restarted in a curious mode named "kernel panic upload mode" that I cannot escape. It's impossible to go back to download mode, even with combo like vol down + start button, or other combinations of buttons.
This phone wasn't rooted and i'm afraid now as I don't know how to flash a working rom on it. Whem I use Odin, the flashin fails at beginnig (at setup connection step).
Does somebody have an idea or a solution to fix this phone?
I join some picture of the current state.
Thanks for your answers

Hello Enzyne,
Thanks for your help !
I tried Vol up + Bixby + start, vol down + bixby + start, vol up + start, vol down + start, vol up + vol down + start, but nothing works.
I can't go back to recovery mode nor to download mode...
Odin says "added" but can't setup connection...
Have you flashed with this PC before using Odin? Can you possibly try another PC? Maybe different USB cables just to eliminate possibilities.

It could be that the drivers are no good. It is also possible that you may need a warranty exchange. I'm not aware of any other boot-loader level recovery process besides odin. Maybe even try another version of odin that is known to work with our note 9.

The Kernel Panic Upload Mode doesn't prevent the phone from booting to Recovery.
1. Make sure your phone is completely powered off.
2. Press and hold the Bixby button and the Volume up button.
3. Press and hold the Power button. At this point you should be holding down three buttons. Don't let these go until you see the Recovery screen pop up.
That's really all there is to it. If you have a case that goes over your buttons it's possible you aren't pressing down hard enough for one or more of the buttons to register.

Not to nit-pick,but,when the phone is fully powered down, the simultaneous 3-button push can be released as soon as you see the Note 9 splash screen & the recovery screen should pop-up within a few seconds.
Only reason I mention it is possibly the OP is experiencing issues by holding one or more of the buttons in too long,(just spit-ballin' here on this point)............

Hi Koliosis, and thanks for your help.
In fact, I even cannot power down the phone !!!
The only thing he does except showing kernel panic is to quickly flash on samsung splash screen when I push together vol down and power button, before to go back on panic kernel screen:crying:
No splash screen with bixby + vol up + power buttons combo...
The problem came after a failed flash with combined files (the good ones for my phone, I verified...)
Is there another way to reinitialise the phone except via Odin or Smart switch?

I cross all I can !!!:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
To get the Note 9 into download mode, do the following:
Turn the device off. Hold the volume down and Bixby button together and then plug in your USB cable that is attached to your PC. Your phone should go into download mode.
As this requires the phone to be off, you may get lucky once the battery runs out of charge.
Good luck

I've never had an issue with holding the buttons too long, but I have had an issue with not holding them long enough. I let go of the buttons as soon as the Recovery screen comes up and I haven't once had an issue with that. I think he'd have to hold the buttons for several seconds past the Recovery screen booting up before this caused an issue.

Okay, now we're on the same page. You have to be FAST with this.
1. Plug in a charging cable. This will give you the LED charging indicator on your phone.
2. Hold Power+Bixby until the charging indicator turns off. Once the charging indicator turns off you have to be VERY quick with step 3.
3. Press and hold Power+Bixby+Volume Up until you see the Recovery screen.
I was stuck in a bootloop after installing a Magisk module, and this happened to me as well. Every time I would power the phone down it wouldn't stay powered down. I had to be very fast to get into Recovery. It took me a couple of tries to press and hold the buttons quickly enough. That was partially because the case on my phone made pressing the buttons a bit more difficult.

Thanks to you both
Doesn't work as well :crying:
Is there another way to force connection with the PC in order to flash a rom again? Another "magic" application like odin but more powerfull?
The only thing that im aware of is very legacy like QPST. Im not sure if QPST is able to handle the newer phones tho. You can definitely ruin your phone with it too.
Hi again Enzyme
I looked on Google for QPST. But it seems it's only for Qualcom powered phones... mine is Exynos powered. ..
