Hi guys,
What DPI setting give you the best overall picture and text quality ?
Thank you
This has been asked many many times, but it depends on what your personal preferences are. I actually have come to like the 160 in the latest night lies. Anything between it and 120 breaks the Play Store, unless you install some market fixes. Some enjoy 155, 145, 132. And 120. But again, check it out for yourself and see which you like.

While different people like it at different numbers, the display was specifically designed to run at 132DPI. Thing is, Android only natively supports DPIs in increments of 40 so switching to 132 breaks the market. As such most people run at 160 (Too big) or 120 (Too small).
Personally, I think 120 looks better than 160 since 160 makes the tablet look like a blown up 7" tablet, and 120 is closer to 132 than 160 is. But choose what works best for you.
Does the Play Market/Store work with 120? I can just load 120/160 packs in CWM?
Yes, either 120 or 160 work with the Play Store. Anything other than those doesn't, unless you flash the Market Fix.
132 dpi is the best for me. Resolution and readability is fantastic.
Can someone link to 132 and Market fix packs?
Is this the market fix app?
LCD modder pro works great. I went to 132 and it is fantastic. Very sharp and clean looking
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
The modder pro app seems to work just right, does everything automatic. But there was a modified market out there that you can install manually (vending.apk) and replace the stock one. I don't know if that was ever updated with the updated Google Play version though.

Dont use 240, drop to 160 or below. If an application has trouble with a DPI that low it wont run properly on ANY tablet as well as some smaller phones.
Ok. But for example my girlfriend plays with The sims freeplay and I've tested all resolution and it works only in 240 dpi. My question is: can i force the control bar to display or use an app ?
I've found the solution

I have my LCD density currently set at 180 and all is fine. Except for a single app, it takes up like 2/3rds of the screen with gaps on the sides. How can I change this? Every other app is just fine. . . .
download "spare parts" and disable compatibility mode, restart your phone. i hope it works.
spare parts is in the android market, download it there.

Any way to specifically change for a single app via Root Explorer or similar? App in question is Nook for Android, which runs in the ugly phone edition mode ony device (galaxy player 5.0 w/native 240 dpi) but when I change system dpi to 160 or lower I get the nicer and fuller-featured "tablet" version of the app - however on the 5 inch screen everything else winds up too tiny and lags, hence hope of somehow forcing only Nook app to running at 160 dpi...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Hi..
I've searched about this LCD Density setting and found that it works on other devices.
But I'm not succeed with my Optimus 2X, I use 2-3 tools from Market, none of them works (the value is resetted to 240 after reboot).
So, do someone know how to do this? please share to us..
Note: I haven't touch build.prop manually.. .. still not that comfy editing text settings directly .. will try that later..
Thanks!

Edit build.prop
Just change the line lcddensity=240 to whatever you want, I personally use 200 and it stays after every reboot.
If using the new market you might run into to "app not compatible with your device" after changing the density - it can be worked around using an older market (I use 2.3.6)

hi, all..
yes, finally i've decided to edit it manually ..
215 is the best for me (well, I just try 200, 190, 215.. .. for me 200 is a little bit blurry on font).
@rQvsnaps: after install that old market, did you stop market updater?
@pa.pn2: what's your app name? there's some LCD Density at market.
@shpapy: well, actually 215 is pretty good for me. Not too small, not too big (it displayed as small as my wife Ideos X5 3.7" -normal density- , but mine have extra line to view.. hey, our's is 4" ) ..
But I can't update some of my app; I know that there's some problem with installing app, but I think I can install them via web Market, just didn't think that it will prevent update too .. silly me..
So for now, I go back to 240.. hopefully there's some way for spoofing Market (or use older Market.. just wait for rQvsnaps feedback ).
Just freeze MarketUpdater.apk in Titanium backup and then uninstall updates of Market in Application manager in Android settings
Thank Rusty for this tip

But still can updated manually (search them & click update) rather than New Market (it's showing "Not Compatible").
For now.. I revert to 240 density.. but keep the old market .. like it better.. (faster, snappier)..
Thanks..

i use toppogi rom its the LG launcher also the dial pad is not shown correctly, but denisty 215 looks very good, so hopefully we will find a solution.^^
selami023
yeah, it's looks very good ...
for me, the main problem is app update from market.
using old market, I have no problem with installing any new app, but my installed app (which listed not compatible) won't update (not listed in "My Apps").
I tried a lot of lcd density changers and no one seemed to work. It's better to just edit the build.prop because that works everytime you do it (remember to restart your device after you changed it). If you really want to use an app: The only app that could change my lcd density was ROM toolbox but I recommend to change the lcd density in build.prop.

Hi All,
As the title asks... Is anyone else having issues with apps not displaying "fully" on the screen of the Note?
I have an issue with the "Scrabble Free" game where it runs ok but it only shows the game screen in the top left corner of the screen. It is showing the WHOLE page but it is less that a quarter the size of the screen.
Can someone maybe download this game and see if its that same for you? Its free. And if anyone has other apps that they have this issue with then perhaps share them here so we can make a list of these "wonky" apps.
If you know how to fix this then please advise as well.
Thanks,

No. I have not changed the DPI settings at all however I am running Darky Note ROM... Perhaps the ROM has changed my DPI settings? Everything else seems normal on the ROM though except that in the Dialer for example and in the Task Manager app - the Selection Bar that is usually in the top of the screen shows now at the bottom but I thought this may be a feature of the ROM...

Thanks for the info. Would you mind perhaps DL'ing the Scrabble game to see if it does the same for you? I have an email out to EA Games on this but have not heard back yet. Perhaps I can get them to update the game for the Note if needed so that this issue can be avoided in the future...

The stock DPI is 320.
But if you have not modded it the chances are that it is at the stock value.
Nevertheless, install any DPI changing software from the market, they generally show the current value. if you are at 320 dpi then it most probably is the problem with the app. otherwise just change to 320 reboot and check

I should mention that one of my chess clients also does not display properly. Granted chessboards are square...
It's an app issue. Various old apps have this problem.
For some apps, you can download spare parts and enable the compatibility mode.
If I do this for bonsai blast, it runs full screen but it is choppy.

Also have some app, not the main content of the app, but just the loading is no displaying fully (Match En Direct)
Hey Guys.
I have recently discovered how to change my LCD density using Rom Toolbox. I have changed it to make everything smaller, kind of zoomed out. I was so happy until I wasn't able to install apps off of Google Play. My question is: why does LCD density mess up market downloads and can it have a negative impact on the device? IE: does the screen have to constantly re-draw to set to new density?
If anyone is knowledgeable about how LCD density (build.prop) effects the device, can you please post below with your smartness Thanks.
i have seen how this work in my galaxy s where they had higher density roms.
i dont think it can actually hurt your device.
i have tried it on an ics rom on my n1 and i dont experience any trouble to install apps from play. may be its gb problem or specifically your rom?
actually i was surprised how well the system adapted to the new settings
except a few graphical artifacts everything looks ok.
btw i used 200 value on medroid 6.1 if i remember correctly.

Yea, I tried lowering the density and I couldn't install any apps off of the market. I had to set back, reboot, and clear Play's data in order to download more apps. Happened to me on CM7.2, not sure if it is a rom limited problem or if that's just how it is.
The apps themselves aren't coded for such low (or high) pixel density for your device.

You running on stock DPI ? 320 or 240 or 160(tablet)mode?
Thanks for quick reply. Im currently running on 200 as seems to work best but I have tryed all settings with full reboot/market data clear etc with no change.
Edit: it seems no one else has this problem, maybe its the chain fire ics repack that's causing the problem? I can't think of any other reasons, is there a newer version of this firmware?
Basically, the market (I refuse to call it "play store") is crap. In Euphoria Control set both dpi settings to 240, reboot, clear market data, reboot, and then you should be able to use the market. I never managed to make it work with DPI other that 240 for more than a day before it craps out again.
There are also hacked vending.apk versions that work with any DPI setting, but they tend to have problems, like not allowing to buy apps.

Market recognizes the apps and device based on the DPI. Use the stock dpi values like 320, 240 or 160 to get apps. After every dpi change and reboot remember to clear the market data. After installing the apps you can switch to the dpi u choose to!! This is the limitation of market and not the rom!
Cheers!
Thank you for this useful information, Abhi.
(Well, it's good manners for someone to say thanks, isn't it?)
Thank you very much I have sorted the problem sticking to 160 dpi with the phone fc fix is working great, I now have all apps accessible thanks everyone
