So I am looking for a better kernel. Currently I am running simplicity rom 2.1.1 with a semaphore kernel. Sorry for not being specific. I don't know what it is:
Kernel Version: [email protected]
Anyway, I really do enjoy my great battery life. But I was wondering if it could be even better !
I also am very big on my OC speed. as I need my phone to be fast and snappy.
I am currently overclocked at min 1300 and max 1300 on performance.
If anyone could reccomend me a kernel or OC frequencys?
I mainly use my phone for texts. I hardly ever use calls, also use viber messages + whatsapp messages. Occasional web browsing (looking something up)
Thats about it, Sometimes i listen to music but i don't play games on it.
Thankyou !
best kernal

does the more ram mean the more faster?
Personally I prefer the Semaphore Kernel.
(btw : Devil 2_0.62 is a ICS kernel)
What is your android version ? (kernel depend of the version) :
here for Gingerbread

Ofc yes, with last more memory kernels OC is less needed.

Hey guys and girls
Just wanted to know what kernel you currently use or have found best for battery life
Thanks
I'm running MIUI 1.9.12 (STOCK) + Glitch V11 ML at 1.2GHz with a 75UV on all.
Thanks for bringing up this question , i was going to ask it now
iam running stock 1.8.26 Miui as well , and i want to know what's the best kernel for battery life and good display
Get Glitch Kernel for OC/UV upto 1.7!! or Semaphore (OC/UV upto 1.2 +VoodooFIX )or Galaxian(OC/UV upto 1.2 ,VoodooFIX) all these are good ones ..!!
i'd recommend Glitch kernel i have already used it and it was pretty good!!

BTW , are they AOSP kernels ?
Hi ,
I have a few begineers questions , I have a galaxy s that is running gingerbread 2.3.6 , is rooted and had a voodoo kernel (with recovery option) . I was thinking of possibilities of overclocking , can that be done with the setup I have ?
thanks in advance
You can easily overclock your phone with a root access with an application like this :
bit.ly/fnUFCD
There are lots of applications existing.
You can see on your kernel thread on this board what frequency is supported.
try Tegrak overclock or NSTools. Find other apps on Market.

thanks for the info guys , installed busybox and android overclock , but appears the kernel is not able to be overclocked as I got a message and the max frequency showing is 1000 mhz , would anyone be able to recommend a kernel that would suit - would like to keep things preety simple and straightforward at the mo
cheers

Semaphore kernel can work on all gingerbread roms. So it is safe to flash semaphore 2.5 on your phone.

Will overclocking the phone significantly reduce battery life? Or cause any degradation of the phone due to excess heat?

Battery use will obviously be higher with the processor on more clock speed but there's no problem with the temperature. Remember, always overclock in minor steps, check stability and in this way you would get a stable phone
Guys,
What's the best Kernels for this rom - CyanogenMod-7 for Optimus 2X - NIGHLTIES
Would like something stable and would push to 1.5 (currently stuck at 1000 standard)
Ta
The best kernel I would recommend is ETaNa Kernel (link in signature), because it's really stable for CM, and you can tweak it a lot with spicas On The Fly pack. Also the battery life is awesome with it. Only, ETaNa Kernel doesn't OC to 1.5Ghz. The HOC version OC's to 1.4Ghz and the LOC version OC's to 1.2Ghz. However the difference between 1.5Ghz and 1.4Ghz isn't noticeable. It doesn't make the phone smoother, it only consumes more battery.
But if you want to OC to 1.5Ghz so badly then I recommend Ironkernel for Gingerbread, you can find it in the dev section.

It is the latest, but are you sure you want a 96MB Ramhack? You are aware of the fact that some things might not work right? All in all I just think that 96MB is just a little too big. 48MB should be sufficient in my opinion...
Hi,
Yeah it's not installing, stuck on boot screen ;-(
Will try different one.
Thanks

+1,
Or MiniCM7 2.2 and Tweak it with v6 Supercharge
Flash another ROM such as cm7.2, ginger DX, ginger Jv etc and overclock with cpu tuner.....729 is optimum CPU frequency.....
Xperian using xda app
I was using the same rom some days back and it was quite laggy
that was really annoying .....
I searched for a fast rom and got a rom which is truly fast and stable
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542247
you will need alfs 08 cm7 kernel for it
i reccomend you using this kernel as it is really good
Here is the link for the kernel-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340861
Download the alfs 8 kernel for cm7 only
after your done with flashing the kernel and rom and once your mobile has booted
Go in setting and click on CyanogenMod settings ..scroll down and you will find performance click on that and go to cpu settings
Change the governer to - SMARTASSV2
Change Max frequency to - 748 MHZ (not more than that your mobile will brick or crash)
Change Min frequency to-729 MHZ
and select the option set on boot
THATS IT UR DONE
Im not responsible if your mobile bricks to death or if it explodes
LOL
Nice tut..
can you tell me why the hell your min frequency is so high???
Ginger DX???????
Before I used gingerdx ..But my battery is draining quickly..SO how can i use that?
And What is the minimum and maximum CPU frequency?

if u use stock kernel then go for PrimeHD v6.0 or GingerDX v25 ( its drains battery though but is super smooth )
try Gingerxperia, altough the developmment has been stopped
im gdx user but i must say that GX has less battery consumption

Hi,
I'd like to know which ROM is capable of starting up and run with less memory? What I mean to ask is, I want a ROM that starts up with < 150mb of ram and provide me more space for running my downloaded apps.
I've tried MIUI, CM9, etc., all starts up with 300mb utilized! Gives me only 30-50 mb space
I know my device is getting older Waiting for S3
Thanks,

Hi, does the android version makes any diffrence to you?
If it doesn't i will probbably suggest you to use GamerzRom.
the problem is that the base kernel of Gamerz is SemforeBM and you can't youse 720P quality while taking a video.
however, you can always use another kernel, though with BM the performence are awsome.
Try myics
I usually have 150 mob to spare

I think Slim and Infinitum are best for RAM on ICS, GamerzRom best on GB.
For GB gamerz rom, i'm in v9 and when i start the phone it use 150mb of ram (200mb of free ram) for v10 it will be more
on ics (slim) you have kernel with 402MB ram
for my phone i still prefer gb and gamerz rom
Use ICSSGS RC4.2 + Devil2 0.72 XL kernel i got 200-210 mb free ram with this config.
Just use a stock froyo rom (2.2 or 2.2.1) like JS8.
JS8 is probably on of the best roms for our device, fast and stable.
Don't forget, if you flash another rom do a factory reset to remove previous garbage from other roms.
Use Slim Rom, always have 200 mb ram free for apps.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I dont mind about the Android version. GB is okay with me. But does Gamerz ROM gives more of usable RAM? How long are you using?
Thanks again!
Currently i don't use this rom because i got tired of messing up with roms and decided to keep my phone as stock as possible.
Before this decision i used the phone for months and i was quite happy, the performance is good at any level (Games, OS Smoothness), i don't remember any app that i couldn't use. Also the network and wireless levels were very good.
Also it's the stock rom with highest quadrant score if i'm not mistaken.
But keep in mind, each type of user has it's rom, so it depends from person to person.

Only ICS kernel with swap is devil 0.73 test version. Swap feature works great for many guys.
if want the ICS try slim sics or Aokp + devil 2.72 xl kernel
I'm om Aokp+ devil i have free ram with some apps running between 190 to 160 free ram
and if wanna Gb try gamerz i think the best GB free ram Rom
Thanks guys..
Thanks to everyone who replied.
I've now installed Slim ICS 3.1 (from WeUI) and happy about the performance, as I get solid 150-200 MB free RAM memory always. I will use this for 2 weeks and then update here about the performance with apps/games installed.
Also, I will install below ROMs suggested by you guys.
Gamerz
ICSSGS + devil
Stock froyo JS8 ( hopefully, I won't like it)
In Slim ICS, have to try (1) Devil kernel, (2) a kernel with swap (devil again - 0.73)
AOKP + devil
Thanks again!
