Hi Experts out there,
I have been having 3G mobile network issue with CM7 base ROM. On certain location, I cannot download and make or receive calls. my 3G icon arrows show upload activities but no download happening. My ISP name (Maxis Malaysia) showing as normal. I upgraded to CM7.2, tried Kang ROM, preshoot kernel and change new SIM card but doesn't help.
Disable and Enable the 2G only a few times might resolve the problem for a while. The may come back again as long as I am still at the same locations.
Anyone has any ideas on this problem? ROM or Kernel issue? Recommendations on solutions? Thank you.

It's not the phone. It's signal coverage that you're having problem. Try another location and see if that helps.
I have been getting full bar signal strength on the icon. If connected (after a few tries of enable / dissable 2G only), the connection will be good for a while (some time quite ok for hour). The connection on 2G is 100% stable and reliable. If 3G is weak, it should automatically switch to 2G without issue right?
Thank you for the reply.

No. The problem could be with internet access of the specific UMTS base station that you're connecting to at that spot, and not with the connectivity between your phone and the tower. In any case, it's not your phone, it's the base station, and there's nothing you can do but complain to your cellular carrier.
I have checked with friends (iPhone, Android, BB,etc) surrounding me on the same location, no one is complaining the same problem. That lead me to confirm that its my N1. The worst part is I cannot make or receive calls. I have been missing many important calls...

When did you have this problem? After or before you updated to the latest version of CM7.2? If after then I suggest you do a full wipe and format system and then reflash the ROM. Or you could try to flash a standalone kernel and see if that helps.

Another option would be to flash a different radio. Try to read the radio section on Nexus One thread for more information
I just flash MIUI ROM and will put it to test tomorrow. Hopefully it will be fine. If not, will try to flash different radio. Thank you for all the replies.

Here's a couple solutions:
1) Go to settings>wireless>mobile networks >access point names. Look and see if an option called "Simple" is ticked. If it is, tick your network name instead of Simple. For example, for me, I have T-Mobile; so I have T-Mo ticked and not Simple.
2) Try flashing a new radio or ROM. I highly doubt this is your problem but it is worth a try. Try the .08 version radio or the .12, whichever you don't have.
3) Go to your carrier's store and see if you can get a replacement SIM card. I did this once and they gave me one for free. Just say you are having connection problems and you think your SIM is cutting out. My N1 once fried a SIM card. Just re-read post and seen that you did this. I would highly suggest you try my first option as I had a very similar problem and solved it that way.

SORRY IM HAPPY CAUSE THIS DOES WORK EVERYTIME DANG T-MOBILE GET AT&T TOWERS btw HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE leave me a egg
I have tried MIUI ROM and latest Radio (5.12) for passed few days. The problem still remain.
The new radio giving more stable 3G connection many locations but lost 3G connection on the previous problematic locations.
Really not sure what to do with it now. I have tried everything that is known on the web.

There's nothing you can do. It's between your phone and local base station.
You didn't listen to me earlier, I guess now you will.
It is sad that nothing can be done. The phone should at least switch to 2G when 3G is not available, but my N1 stuck there causing me loosing voice and SMS capabilities. This is fundamentally wrong on the phone.

My wife's hero just did an update recently (I guess from HTC) and after the update she now has issues with internet connectivity from cell towers. If the phone is left alone for a while, it just won't work without switching the mobile internet off and back on. Her phone is running stock 2.1.
Anyone else having this issue or know of any solutions?
It may have been a radio update. That may of messed up your signal. Look on the themes and apps forum on here for the radio discussion and you will find a list of radios you can download to get better signal. However I don't know if you can install them not being rooted.

Hmm, wouldn't a radio issue mean the phone would show no bars (complete loss of signal). Because that doesn't happen. It's more like the mobile network is turned off via the settings menu except the "EV" indicating EVDO is there.
Try a factory reset but only after you back up all your important data might help but I would advise to read on the effects of doing one first to see if its a step your willing to take well hope it helps good luck

Hi Peeps,
Can some explain to me why al the non sense custom roms won't have a internet connection with this device and vodafone NL?
I would really like to find a fix for this problem. I quote the maker of the cyanogenmod rom.
"I think part of the problem is the RIL we are using."
Could someone help me get this fixed?
thanx!

Good, then I am not the only one
I really want to use MIUI but the because it wont give me a data connection (3g,H,etc.) stops me from using it further
I checked the "Monitor" app pre-installed with MIUI, and changed some settings with the firewall and the statusbar displayed a 3G icon, but it still didnt work.
Curiously, does it work for other people running MIUI/CM7 on different phones who are on Vodafone NL? I'm trying to understand if it's the radio or something that stock Android doesn't have that Sense/other providers do have. I am pretty sure it would work even if you install ARHD and run the no sense script.
I don't think it's the sense. It's either the radio, ROM kernel (?) or some other config in stock that MIUI/CM7 are picking up that Sense might have overwritten.
It's interesting, really
Works fine for me on Vodafone India but yeah, that doesn't help you
Only one thing to add, Vodafone NL comes in 2 variations: Vodafone NL and Vodafone NL Business which uses a different APN. For me Vodafone NL has not worked on CM7 but Vodafone NL Business does work (due to the SIM having corporate contract I guess)
Hi john,
Thanx for looking into it, i have tried different radio's and roms. Its not the card itself because it works flaweless in the htc legend with cm7.
It must be something that connects the radio with the software.. the developer of cyanogenmod for the incredible S was talking about the RIL (Radio Interface Layer)
cince it's not only a CM 7 problem i guess it has to do with something all the rommakers are using.
serious *yawn* as i mentioned like dozens of time yes it is the ril and yes there is a version from cm for the vodafone nl users, ask attn1 (and no they dont know what it is or how it should be fixxed atm)
end of discussion
lol relax dude, i don't own a incredible S that long and couldn't find anything about it on XDA... After that i asked another dutch users but he didn't know why it was not working..
I created this topic so new users like me can find a answer why a custom rom is not working on their phone at this moment. Hopefully they will crack it.
it's okey problem is most people dont do the research and just start asking, but no biggy...
just do what ive told you before, im sure attn1 is willing to help when he has the time
This problem with the RIL is this just vodafone blocking some RIL or is er a functional problem with this RIL and the vodafone carrier?
I don't know what to do, i would realy like to use a miu of cm rom without the sense.
Can anyone give me a hand? or a push in the right direction?
its the ril that has an issue with vodafone duhh...
its like i said before there is an version from cm that works with it...
so yes other roms are possible also, how? erhm... read back...
sorry for asking but i can't find that build of CM7 not on their website nor on XDA Developers. I just want to know what to do myself to rebuild a rom and make the appropiate changes to the RIL so it wil work.
contact attn1 mate
i have did that multiple times but i get no responsse of attn1
i'll upload some this weekend (not 100% sure which one was it but im sure you can test that out ), i currently switched to kpn cause of some connection problems i was having where im stationed...

It works! You're a hero, finally CM on my IncS
Everytime i'm moving in The Hague, i lose my GSM and 3g signal.
Is that a known problem?? I am using Android Revolution HD 1.1.7
To get my signal back i have to go to airplane mode and then log in again with my pin.....
I have this issue on many custom roms on telus too.
how can you flash a new ril?
I'm dealing with the same error. the newest cm7 works fine. The revolution roms as well. (BTW I haven't noticed any issues in the Hague. as soon as 3g dropped all my colleague's 3g dropped as well on their Iphones.)
Unfortunately mobile network isn't working on most of the fancy 3.5 sense roms.
I posted about the vodafone issue in one of the sense 3.5 threads and got this reply as solution. Could anyone confirm whether these steps solved the problem?

This is actually simple to fix. My girlfriends phone was doing this a bit ago. After a bit of tinkering I found this to work. 1. Shut down your phone 2. Carefully remove the battery cover and battery from the phone. 3. Using a toothpick or something similar, depress the clip holding the Verizon/vodafone sim card in place and remove the card. 4. Replace your battery and turn the phone back on. 5. Wait about a minute, the phone may display a message saying somehting along the lines of "no sim card found, switching to CDMA" or something similar. 6. Turn the phone back off, remove the battery and replace the sim card 7. Completely re-assemble the phone and turn it back on. 8. Your phone should now show that you have Verizon as your carrier and all your phones functions should be restored.
Hope this works as well for you guys as it did for me.
I assume this is some sort of error with the phone recognizing which network is its default carrier. I also assume that verizon has some ort of deal with vodafone, a carrier in the Netherlands, that allows some of there phones to access vodafones gsm network if the verizon customer happens to be travelling. That would explain why they have a vodafone sim card in some of these phones. from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App

i am on Vodafone Egypt and i have the same problem and i tried this fix and doesn't work
some one help me
First of all, let me start of what I've tried doing, in order.
New SIM-card, factory reset, unlock + root, custom ICS (VirtousQuattro).
None of the above solved my problem, it still persists! The problem is, the phone disconnects completely from the network (no bars) and I can't manually search for a new provider due "active package transmission" or something like that, it stays disconnected for 1-3 minutes and then reconnects. It happens fairly often, like once for every 5 times I try using the phone. I haven't noticed the problem when being connected to a WiFi, so I'd assume the problem is related to an issue between the phone and the network.
Has anybody else had this problem? Any idea how to solve it?
Have you tried flashing a new Radio? I can't see how that would differ from flashing a custom ROM, but might be worth a shot?

Yes Naforcee, I have exactly the same problem. And it never happens while using wifi as you said.
It started immediately after I updated to Sense 3 / Android 2.3.5 from HTC.

Don't think it's a physical problem, I have perfect connection and it just dies out for about 2 min until it reconnects, and I can't search for network when it's down due to active packet transfer..
Could try a new SIM card. Might not fix it, but worth a shot - I've seen this posted as a fix for other people.
I used to have this problem on certain radios on the Desire Z, after flashing around a bunch of radios to try all of them. Stuck with one and it went away, so it was software for me.

Try flashing this radio http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471861 using the ADB method. If that doesn't help I recommend doing a full wipe and reinstalling the ROM. There are a lot of different custom ROMs for IncS which can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1136463
I personally like Niks ROM and Android Revolution HD.
Looks like rom installation issue.
My son's Inc-S having a similar problem to the OP, but more severe. A couple of weeks ago he entered airplane mode with all behaving normally, but since exiting airplane mode at the end of the flight he hasn't been able to register on the network (voice or data). We've tried:
fiddling with all the network settings
change sims (all sims work on my Inc2, none work on his IncS)
cleaning the antenna connections
reboot
factory reset
flashing new ROM (Android Revolution HD 2.3.0)
flashing new radio (3805.10.03.29_M)
So far, no satisfaction. We're still seeing no bars of reception (with an X) in the notification area, and don't have the option to manually or automatically register with any network operator (although several occasionally show up as options under "Search Networks"). We usually get the error message, "Unable to search for network while packet connection is active" when trying to select a network. Funny thing is, mobile network data has been shut off on his phone for the past month so the packet connection is definitely not active (wifi is on). Based on a network signal analyzer app, the phone is receiving the same mobile network signal as mine (-65 to -70 db) when they are side-by-side, so the problem does not appear to be in the antenna. The phone works just fine using wifi but is useless as a phone.
Any ideas about what to try next?

Probably a RIL-Radio communication issue. Recommended radio is the newer 3822.01.08.14_M radio, so maybe you should try that.
Is anyone else that's running CM10.2 on Droid 4 having data connection issues? Have you fixed them? If so, how? Does the code need to bake a while longer before data starts working?
I'm running CM 10.22010831-NIGHTLY-maserati
WIFI is working, but I can't get data to work otherwise. I did a factory reset and started fresh. I've tried flashing the ROM and gapps package multiple times. I wiped cache and Dalvik. I tried repairing permissions.
Any Ideas?

Do u have the issue on stock rom slot? If so then take it back to stock with the latest utility floating around the forum. Check for system updates if there is one dl and install to make sure u have latest radio if problem persist then it's a Good possibility it's A coverage issue or hardware related problem..

Ok, here's where I'm at now.
I updated my stock rom. baseband is now at 5.25.00. Still won't work on CM10.2.
3g will work on my stock ROM, but not on CM.
I've screwed with the mobile network settings and I can't get any difference in results.
LTE works great with CM10.2, but as soon as I'm in 3g territory, I'm dead in the water. I can receive and place voice calls and I get text messages through the messaging app, but anything that requires an actual data connection, like google voice or the browser, it won't work.
Help!?
updated PRL, still no love.
In some versions i needed to add APN manually, then it would work. In earlier version i had the same problem that 3g would not work. Also problem with reception bars - it would always show like 1 bar or smth like this but would work just fine.

Set adrift without data.
Day 10: I've run out of water. The sea gulls... they mock me... with their wings... and beaks... and of course their raucous calls. They are scheming against me. Also, still no data.

First off, thanks for the chuckle
Secondly, you're getting no data at all? Are you on Verizon? If so, do you have LTE in your area? My personal experience has been LTE data is working fine but 3G has been REAL spotty. I did see dhacker on twitter post a new razr build with some 3G tweaks he was testing. So that is being worked on and should filter down to us when it does get figured out.

3G was working fine on 10.1, but is nonexistent on 10.2. It actually acts like it wants to connect to a roaming tower if I switch it to GSM, but it can only see it and won't pass traffic.
I could just go back to 10.1 or run stock, but my pigheadedness, that's a word now, won't allow it.
On the brighter side, I am learning a great deal more about my phone that I had previously known.
The problem seemed to rectify itself around the nightly build on 9-15 or 9-16.
I know I'm a bit late, but I always do the * # * # 4636 # * # * in dialer and I turn off the radio, set the radio to cdma/lte and turn it back on, usually it isn't letting all those other antennas run and it seems to pick 4G LTE faster in my experience.
I think it's a CM10.2 issue...
Hi, my friend with a Galaxy S3 is having the exact same data retention issues we are having on our Droid 4's, which makes me think this is a bug in CM10.2 on various devices more than an issue with our phones. I can get LTE data when I have service, but find that once I loose service, even for a moment, the phone then never re-connects to LTE again and just sits there with white bars instead. Toggling data or airplane mode seems to usually trick it into reconnecting to LTE, but it is becoming annoying to have to constantly check and toggle around to get data back. I've tried every nightly and the M1 and have found the issue remains through the 11/19 build. I've installed the ROM into slot1, I'm not sure if overwriting the stock ROM and using the stock slot with CM10.2 helps matters at all, has anyone had any experience with using CM10.2 in the stock slot instead of Sot 1?
On my stock nexus 6 (not rooted) I always have a poor WiFi signal. If I'm right next to the router I'm OK, but in the next room it's an extremely low signal and always slow. My data signal is always weaker as well. Whenever I'm running a custom ROM like CM 12 or even other custom stock roms my WiFi signal is very strong even further away. Its not my router because the phone does it anywhere. I'm just wondering if anyone else has these issues running completely stock or a fix or something. Thank you.

It would help a bit if you mentioned what software revision your stock ROM is. Also, is this just WiFi or are you having mobile data issues too?
It has done this on all android 5 versions. Right now I'm on the latest. LMY47l.

Also it is mostly Wi-Fi. I do notice my signal is weaker in places I usually have a strong one though.

I just got my nexus last Thursday on Verizon. Data didn't seem right to me either. Had issues activating the phone, slow page loads on both Wi-Fi and data, dropped calls. Went back to the store, they insisted on swapping sims and sending me home to try it. Waste of time. So I went back today and swapped for another phone. It seems some better, but still not right. Certainly not like my note 3 was before. And they were even known for radio issues... Mine is straight out of the box, no mods, no apps yet, no root, etc. Running 5.1, LMY47E
Sorry, no answers to offer (yet anyway). Just letting you know your not alone. I usually wait a week or so before rooting and romming a new phone to let the new wear off. In a week, if that fixes it, I'll be glad to leave a rom on it

I see that you are on Sprint. Have you tried the following?:
1) update PRL and device configuration
2) use the data dialer reset code
Thanks for the response. I have tried these.

What are those steps?
I am not on Sprint, I am using Vodafone in The Netherlands and I got this weak data connection problem.
Well, actually it is weird. Sometimes, the phone went to "G" because it cannot connect to 3G/HSDPA. But, it does this quite often in "certain places" where it's not like this when I got the it for the first time.
And some times also, when I get the phone to a place with strong signal, it has difficulty to regain 3G/HSDPA. I saw the "3G or H icon" glitching, trying to connect .... disconnect ... connect ... disconnect.
Then I must reboot the phone, after that it's normal.
Not often though.
I am running stock 5.1 (OTA updated via adb), not-rooted, but unlocked.

No, sorry. Some of those codes I linked are universal but I believe the data reset code is specifically for Sprint. Look for the AT&T specific thread in the general forum and see if there's anything mentioned there.
