ICS CM9 feedback - LG Optimus 2x

Hi guys,
I'm using ICS upgrade CM9 on my O2X. But I'm having trouble with the camera such as: the frame rate is downgrade from 1080p to 720p. And also I cannot use camcorder due to always stop reaponding each time I click recording. Another thing,I cannot play HD movies smoothly.. please advise..thanks

these problems are due to missing the drivers for the camera and multimedia acceleration so the camera does not record or play videos in hd

That's a known fact my friend. If you read the threads about CM9 you would have known that it's only an alpha version now and that there are some broken stuff, such as the camera.

[Q] xperia x8 hd video

hello frds my question is we enable hd video recording in x8?
bcoz it is possible in iphone 3gs
http://www.redmondpie.com/enable-hd-video-recording-on-iphone-3gs-jailbreak/
the camera is same 3.2 so it is possible ?
An X8 is not an iPhone,it has different hardware AND software, so if they could do it on the iPhone, that doesn´t mean anything to us.
And HD is just the size of the frames and doesn´t give you more quality, and maybve the quality will be weird, as the images of the camera have to be stretched by the software, and a small picture strecthed to a big size always looks weird.
The camera could do HD videos, because it has the resolution. Other question is that the processor could not keep up with the real time encoding (even with 640x480 resolution the video might skip some frames). So it could be done, but it will be totally useless.

Downgrade from CM9 and a Camera question

Hi.
At the moment I am using the Nova HD Plus ROM, which is a great ICS Kang, but I sadly cannot record a thing with it. Tomorrow I am going to a Sports event I would like to take some videos.
Is there something I should be aware when downgrading?
Also which ROM provides great quality videos. I used to use temasek`s KANG ROM and since he is back, I might use his ROMs again, but are there any ROMs with better video quality? Also, which kernel to use with?
Thanks in advance!
Dont think that you should worry about when changing rom. Except that you have to do a full wipe!
Go for Tamaseks KANG and Etana Kernel. Best performance and stability.
hi
The camera problem have not solve, you can download and Installation Other app to take video

Due to the lack of media acceleration, video recording doesn't work yet on CM9. We just have to be patient.
Hi!
If you would rather not risk a downgrade you can download an app to record in standard definition. I don't recall the name of it though, but I'm sure you'll find it around here if you search for it.
And I think a full wipe is enough, not sure if a "backtoExt3" is necessary though.
EDIT: As you can see in this thread

the name of the app is Video Illusion

[q] video laggy and stutters

Is this a common problem with all the Tab 8.9's or is it just me. I have a bone stock new Tab and when I try and play youtube or other videos, it stops every couple seconds and lags ... Wallpapers all look pixelated no matter what resolution I download ...I love the Tab so far, but things that should operate without too much tweaking or manipulation seem to require a lot of work to get working correctly. I hope I dont regret the decision of not getting an Ipad
Im sorry to tell you, but all Tegra 2 devices are unable to play 720p or 1080p videos without stutter. Even with an OCd Cpu it wont (some people say, but theyre desperate just like all of us..)
Other dual cores can because they have something integrated, that we call NEON. So its not about the cpu speed at all, its about a missing function, to decode HD material (overall video material, but the cpu can handle low resolution vids).
Some codecs on the market (for ex. BSplayer) can help but it'll still be a bit laggy.
EDIT: It is possible to play 720p or 1080p videos. You have to convert the video to H.264 Baseline profile. With that, it should work.

Try mxplayer. I found anything I recorded on my S2 would stutter like mad when played back on my tab but since mxplayer upgraded and added the hw+ decoder it plays perfect. As for youtube this problem has come up since the ICS update and not much you can do about it sorry

YouTube problems

Hi all,
I started out with the stock 3.2 ROM, I quickly switched to Overcom ROM 3.2. I was happy with it for about 8 months.
Then I decided to go to ICS and later JB.
Every ROM I've used so far has the problem that HD movies on YouTube don't play very well. Every few second it will stop for a fraction of a second, it's really annoying. The audio is never affected though. It happends when the video is small and when it's full-screen. The moment I switch from HD to HQ the problem is gone.
I tried about anything, even overclocking up to 1.5 GHz. doesn't change a thing. I'm pretty sure it's not the capabilities of the tablet, if I play 720p trailers on the IMDb app it plays all video's perfectly. Also, when I use the 3.2 Overcome ROM backup the problem is gone as well! I can't go back to 3.2! I love ICS and JB too much!
Are other people having this problem? Or does anyone knows the solution?
I was wondering if this has something to do with the kernel, so far I used the A1 kernel and currently I'm on 3.1.10 Cyanogenmod+ kernel and CyanogenMod 10, with Android 4.1.2
Again, from the Asus Transformer Forum about the Tegra 2 and HD content -.- :
"The Tegra2 chipset are designed as a mobile sollution chipset - to support web 2 standards. The highest encoding profile used here (Youtube 1080p) are 1080p baseline and this the Tegra2 chipset will both record and play with no troubles. As well as 720p baseline and main profile - but only upto L3.1 with some limitations. It doesnt matter which container is used (mkv, mp4, m4v, avi etc) and it doesnt matter if resolution are 1080p - its only a matter of the encoding profile used to encode the supported video format H264
Tegra2 will NEVER be able to decode High profile L4.1 encodes - it's not a software issue, neither in terms of Honeycomb or Nvidia libs, its simply a limitation of the abilities of the hardwaredecoder in the Tegra2 chipset and this will never change. It is also not a limitation in the Transformer specifically, but a limitation in ALL Tegra2 based tablets and mobilephones.
This is the same reason why some mediaplayers like the Boxee Box that was originally intended to use the Tegra2 moved on to an Intel chipset before launch.
In short the Tegra2 chipset will support playback of videos encoded in 1080p or 720p resolution, using the H264 video codec and AAC audio codec - as long as the video are encoded after the baseline profile standard
It will not now or ever - play 1080p/720p encodes encoded after the high profile standard."
Youtube HD is not encoded as it has to be for Tegra2 chipsets to play without stutters..
Next time, please serach the forum, there has been several threads about hd content.

While I agree the issue was mentioned before (it's even on my faq ICS), none of your reply addresses the observation, made by several folks on this board, that certain (youtube) HD videos played fine in HD, but stutter in ICS. Or did I miss something?
I read a suggestion somewhere, that video would stutter less in ICS (correction: jelly bean) if developer USB debugging mode is off, but I didn't see a difference...

Well, i have to admit that youtube hd videos did not play fluently on HC for me. Therefore I think that the android version or kernel doesnt matter for decoding. I might be wrong though..
With that being said, i think that there is no solution to get it fixed.
Btw that USB debugging thing does not work for me as well

Thanks Ncyde47 for that insight..
I had issues with prefetch not working with latest youtube version and had installed an old apk which was working good.

Which rom best for watching videos?

I like to watch movies on my tab, then and often stream them from my pc. I'm just wondering which rom you guys would choose as the best for this? I'm thinking of going back to the cm9, currently on 10.1.
I seem to remember having less issues when using cm9 to do this, though in general I didn't find the rom ass smooth. But many of them are 1080p and I'm not interested in reincoding anything.
And is mx player still one of the best options for this?

Honestly, I have no problems streaming and watching my 720p collection from my HTPC on my stock ROM (4.1.1). I am using MX, and even though it didn't request a codec, I still installed the ARM7-NEON codec. I have abosolutely no problems whatsoever. However, all my 720's are very efficiently compressed using my own settings with max bitrates not usually exceeding any more than 4,500kbps.
Sungsonic is supposed to be optimized for video and audio. But not sure if it is available / works on the P1000. I'm currently on a P3113.
I also had the same issue, I also love watching movies on my Tab, especially HD. I was on cm9 then shifted to cm10 parandroid. All of these custom ROMs have same issue with playing 720p and 1080p. The solution I still use is this:
1) delete all codecs and players, including MX player.
2) install bsplayer
3) then install mob player
4) then install MX player (don't install its codecs or the other players codecs)
5) go to MX player >>> settings>>> decoder>>> tick the hw+ decoder and at the bottom tick the deinterlace option
6) now try playing 720p or 1080p, in hw+ mode using MX player. If the player still lags you can use BS player, it handles HD quite well and slightly much better than MX player.
Hope this works for you. Please reply ASAP of the results...

Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up doing a full restock last night, and gave it all a go in the gb again, and am now back on the cm9, and it's working much better. One movie I stream as my test was always a bit juttery on cm10 variants, and also on gb is very good on cm9. And of course mx player will select hw in cm9 where it won't in the others.
Sometimes you just have to trial and error. Actually, everything is running a bit smoother than any cm10 I've used.

It's a fact that 1080p is VERY BAD on JB aosp based roms even with hw support, when they are played absolutly nice on GB rom !
About JB 4.1.2 not able to play fluently 1080p as stock GB samy does, one of our rom daddy explained somewhere that Samsung have some kind of proprietary codecs bought somewhere that aosp cannot have. So...
But I just tried ICS AOKP SGT7 milestone 6 (19/9/2012) and it decode 1080p flawlessly ! no difference with stock GB !
So what happen to JB 4.1 or 4.2 ? :cyclops:
edit : got a look at the 1080p' movies link used to Test videos for HW codec with MX, for example at the [ROM][CM10][JB][4.1.2][SGT7][P1000/N/L][PDroid][20121127] thread when guys complained about bad performance, and I discover that theses "reference' movies" were in fact both 800 or 816p ! along with a fanny readme that states "Original Video properties: Resolution: 1080p (1920x816) FPS: 23.976 (NTSC)"
So I think that many dev' validation test could have been badly abused that way with something near 720p !
It could be nice that our "old" 1080p mkv could stay running and streaming over our tab ... in JellyBean kernels & roms ad hoc !
Please ...
Thx
