would suggest to follow the instructions in the following link to get a rooted GB rom with CWM installed.. you can flash any other rom of your choice after that..
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/odin-jvu-re-gt-i9000.6558/
can i use that if i have XXJVS not JVU
That should work fine. Alternatively you could follow this w*w.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000/[/url]
Hope that helps.
That doesn't work for me because i have xxjvs not xxjpo
Just toggle signature verification in CWM.

Flash semaphore kernel through odin that will give cwm recovery

does that work on xxjvs?
Stock Recovery doesn't allow flashing unsigned .zip...
i flashed CF root kernel but i still didn't get CWM recovery
i did the same thing about 3 months ago then i was able to install cyanogen mod 9 build 2
it had many bugs so i flashed back to stock 2.3.5
but now i'd like to install cyanogen mod 7 or cyanogen mod 9 build 17
Flashing about any of the popular pre-rooted kernels should give you CWM. Semaphore, CF-root, search around, there are tons.
Flash initially with Odin to get the kernel on the stock rom (Plenty of Odin guides around, it's not that bad to use).
You should be fine after that if the Odin flash goes properly.
The same thing happened to me exactly.I think the only way to solve it is to flash a new kernel but dooes this affect my stock rom? because I haven't done backup yet and I want to keep a restore point to my stock in case anything gets wrong
i flashed CF root kernel but why i still didn't get CWM?
can i flash semaphore 2.5.0 kernel on xxjvs?
Yes you can. Just put the kernel in PDA slot put the phone into download mode plug it in and hit start.

I have Samsung Galaxy s i9000 Froyo 2.2, Rooted with Z4root and lagfixed with OCLF. I have downloaded the Darkys ROM 9.2extreme Edition and also the Darkys ROM configurator from market. I have flashed the clockworkmod recovery by using ROM manager. And backed up the data by titanium backup (free version) . Now if I have to flash the Darkys rom from SD card using the ROM manager will I have a problem with recovery 2e? Or it is better to flash the Darkys ROM by Odin?.....Really confused and want to make decision...don't want a brick and data loss...

Either is good. Flash the CWM version using 'install ZIP from SD Card' in CWM (use the three button recovery to get there). The other option is to flash with ODIN using the 512 PIT and the ODIN version. The ODIN version requires first flashing with ODIN, the flashing again with the CWM version, but produes a 'cleaner' install.
Make sure you undo your lagfix first
Thanks guys

Yeah resurrection seems to be better for moving from the stock rom to darkys. I have decided to go for the cleaner Odin flashing. Can I flash clockworkmod recovery by using ROM manager? The official Darkys site has mentioned rom manager as an option to installing CMW in their prerequisites section. But in the custom rom installation guide they have given the steps to copy the update.zip file, enter the recovery mode by 3 button combo and then manually flash twice to get CMW. Which one is the better? ROM manager seems simpler for flashing CMW.....
Samsung Galaxy S I9000 FROYO, Z4root, OCLF.
If you flash Resurrection you have no need for ROM Manager as the ROM includes Clockwork Mod already.

OK if I flash darkys resurrection, then would I have to root with CF root to get recovery 2e?or I can skip that step? I think the resurrection tutorial at xda has not mentioned it.

Is it because of the 3e recovery? Do I need to flash some kernel like speedmod or CF root to get recovery 2e?

is there a tutorial or app that can root, install CWM, etc so that i can just boot into CWM and flash a new rom?

EDIT:
from a quick read, do i do this?:
. Rooting your phone and flashing a custom Kernel.
3.1. Download your preferred kernel (the version for Odin, not the one for CWM).
3.2. Open up Odin or Heimdall.
3.3. Put you phone into "Download mode" and connect it to your computer (DO NOT CONNECT THE PHONE BEFORE OPENING ODIN OR THIS WILL NOT WORK).
3.4.1. If you are using Heimdall, unpack your kernel until you end up with a file called zImage. Select that in Heimdall in the box for "Kernel (zImage)" and click Start.
3.4.2. If you are using Odin, select the file you downloaded in the PDA box and click Start.
3.5. After your Phone reboots, go into "Recovery mode" and go to "Advanced Speedmod ULK features" -> "ROOT / Install Superuser".
3.6. After rebooting the phone again, you should have root permissions.

Is he on gingerbread, if so follow the above process - you may need to flash a rooted kernel (chainfires would probably be best) afterwards as pda in odin.
If not on gingerbread, it may be quicker to flash milky's rom, it's got odin and full instructions in the download, and gb bootloaders.

your going to have to explain this to me, im really confused now
It's best to flash to the latest stock rom before installing a custom rom. Ramads jvt is deodexed but does not have root - so if you flash jvt, you will need to flash CFroot kernel after for root and cwm.
Ramads jvt does not have gingerbread bootloaders, so if it is on froyo or eclair, gb bootloaders will be needed.
If all this seems a pain, milky's rom is odin flashable, has bootloaders, root, cwm and also has odin and full instructions in the download.
Hope this is more clear.

Hi there, I rooted my GT-I9000M on KG3 FW using this FW http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23560333&postcount=498 , downloaded Superuser and busybox, downloaded ROM Manager, flashed CWM, but when I'm trying to install custom roms, it boots up on Android System Recovery 3e instead of CWM Recovery. Did I missed something or I need to do something else to make it work ?
I've got the exact same problem.
Flashed stock kg3 pda,phone,csc
Flashed rooted kg3 (pda only in odin)
Installed superuser and busybox which seem to work correctly
installed rom manager and download cmw recovery.
Tried rebooting in cmw recovery and it does not work...
I don't think the cwm is the same...I believe that is just the simplest root directory possible, nothing more. Try flashing jvt or jw5 in pda and root that after with appropriate root kernel. Then you will have no issues. Besides there are no custom roms for kg3 anyway.

This is a good guide by All Gamer. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379650
I already saw that guide, but the JVP ROM is not available anymore. I googled it and I can't find it !
Guys just flash jw5 under pda and use the kg3 modem and csc. Then flash semaphore 2.7.4. tar. Problem solved. I have a bell Canada phone myself and this setup works great. Then you can flash ics or whatever in cwm. If you don't like ics, I recommend Dmore3.3 for jw5.

Bud I'm running a custom rom installed through cwm and the instructions I gave are what I'm running right now. If you're rooted with the semaphore 2.7.4 kernel than you have cwm. Not sure what you did wrong? Go and install the cwm apk I think it's available in the chainfire thread.

Not sure but I think you might just need to pull the battery when it boot loops and go back into cwm with 3 button combo, install again and should complete install. It probably tells you installation instructions on thread. Man if you don't end up like miui then try Dmore3.3... It's rock solid and resembles ics but runs on gb.

Would help to know what is your goal (flash rom, kernel, modem or simply having cwm recovery). There is a well written guide in the Q&A: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266
But Zestar pretty much explained it. You'll need Odin 1.85 (which you will find in the guide) and a custom kernel (doesn't matter much which one as long as it supports cwm recovery). You have a lot of reading to do before jumping into this and I highly suggest it! I also bricked once outta being hasty, won't happen again
do i understand that right, that i can root my stock gingerbread by flashing this cwm/philz kernel, without the need to wipe any data?
i just want to flash ultimate rom. it says i need cwm. i don't fully understand why cwm comes together with a kernel and why that kernel gives root on any rom. how to root topic doesn't mention the flashing of just a kernel to get root. i guess i got something wrong here?

You cannot flash PhilZ kernel on a GB Rom. It wouldn't boot up if you did.

for the Note the kernel and recovery are integrated, each kernel has a corresponding cwm recovery and root features too
so when you want to root a rom you have to flash a suitable kernel which will give it a cwm recovery to flash custom roms from and it will also give root features too.
Phillz kernels root stock ICS Touchwizz roms when flashed from stock recovery. after a complete reboot you can safely wipe from recovery and flash custom roms.
BTW - this thread belongs to the QA forum.

You can't flash ANYTHING from stock 3e GB recovery. It won't pass signature verification.
(Unlike ICS). You need to root it first, then use an app such as mobile odin to flash a kernel which has CWM recovery.
