Buy a SGS or wait? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, would you reccomend buying a SGS 2 or waiting for the next version? Anyone know when the next version will be out? I am on AT&T thanks!

it simply depends on the fact if u can afford a better device when it comes out... if you can then go ahead and wait... if you cant then there is no point... and if you choose to wait then wait a little longer to see if the device has sufficient developer support, if you are into rooting n custom ROMS...

I think it's best to wait for the S3 i will definately wait for it and i think it's worth waiting

Its better to wait for S3 it will be very good for sure

I thought to buy the galaxy s2 because my s1 don't became ics and was very slow with all roms that i tried. But with the slim ics ROM I'm now very happy and the performance is great. Now i will wait until the s1 will die or no more updates will come from the Android community.
That save a lot of money and I'm very happy with my old lag free phone.
Just my 2 cent.
And excuse me for my English, best regards from Germany.
send from SGS i9000 with Slim ICS 3.1

I completely agree with the last poster. With Gingerbread, I was looking to upgrade. After I put ICS on my phone—especially with bigmem kernels sporting 400mb of available RAM—I see absolutely no reason to upgrade. My phone doesn't lag and I can play any of the new games I want to. I would definitely wait for the S3.

It depends on what you wanna do with your phone.
You are on XDA, so i guess you wanna try new roms an tweak your phone to the fullest
In that case buy the SGS 2, there is already a lot of devs building roms for the SGS 2
If you want the newest phone..... and can wait for it's release (don't know exactly when)... and can afford it..... and can wait for root to come out, the SGS 3 is your choice.
I have a SGS 1 to play with so my choice would be simpel... wait for the SGS 3.

Sgs3 22nd may UK. I have seen it and it really looks as if its from beyond this galaxy!

I'd totally wait and even after S3 being released would wait some more.
I never buy something new after being fairly well tested and reviewed.
And even so, i'll probably hang to my SGS. I'm not even joking my phone's fast as hell even with a GB based rom, have probably the best sound you can have on any phone around, the perfect screen size for me with a beautiful screen with beautiful colors to look at, frontal button with no useless touch buttons (really who needs a dedicated search button anyway), built in a perfectly solid enough case with battery to spare for a whole day (i ask for no more).
i've been using mintberry miui for a good while now, have it well customized (plenty of wireless passwords saved, loads of apps with several data, everything works flawlessly without a single FC for months) and i can't really imagine all of this going even faster, it's fast enough as it is. I don't even consider changing to an ICS rom just yet.
The only things i would change is the **** gps that never really worked regardless what i try and wireless going into sleep mode regardless of me configuring it not to (although this is a rom/kernel problem). But i can live with both, my car already has gps, i already had a dedicated device before getting this phone as well and i can always have my phone not entering sleep at all in the first place, so... meh This is nitpicking anyway.
Really, i've put to thought changing my phone many times, but after considering what i'll get i always end up realizing my phone delivers everything i need with power to spare.
If you own an SGS you probably already have the best there is

I'm waiting for the Galaxy S4

i got both sgs1 an sgs2 so comparing sgs1 is sexy on gb but sgs2 is sexy on gb too..but performance of sgs2 is better an iam planning for new device tht will b latest may b sgs3 so better wait cause teck speeking quadcore, cam, speed war will start soon an every company will rush out new phones,so ull hav a chance to select,an may b the price falls too (who knos)........cheeeerz

Lol... i just provided links... gcuchiha claimed that he has seen it !!! Sme posts abv... nt me...

I'd wait for sgs3 and see what the reviews are like
Also they always charge a premium price for the first couple of months before coming down to a more realistic amont
Since putting Barome's ultimate fusion ICS on my sgs it is working really well, even GPS and navigon are usable

Wait.
Definitely.
Ultimately.
Short time.
10 years only.
And buy Samsung Galaxy 95.
Any earlier model would be a crap.

I thought I read somewhere that it will not be out until Q3/Q4 this year...but if you ask me, I would certainly not wait...considering the current SGS (almost 2 years old?) is still able to run ICS decently, I really see no reason the upgrade the hardware, or in this case, to wait for newer hardware...

If you ask me I would definitely wait for S2 till it's price would fall or just wait some more time to buy S3 . i wouldn't go for S1 generation anymore

[Q]SGS or w8 gingerbread?

hello ppl,
I'm planning to buy Samsung galaxy S soon but I heard that Android gingerbread is coming out soon too so I want to ask:
1-will it be better to wait till Gingerbread to be out and then buy a device that has it already? if yes how much would this take?
2-would there be a huge difference between Froyo which we can get on the Sgs and gingerbread that will worth the waiting if its long?
3-is there any chance for Sgs to get gingerbread as an official update ? or its hardware cant run it?
4-any remarks about the price of the devices that will come with it when it comes out?
btw I'm normal user and my usage isnt that heavy or needs very high specs but still if its worth it to w8 please answer the questions
P.S srry if i'm posting under wrong section or asking an already answered stuff
thanks
2.3 (gingerbread) wont come out to SGS till next year beacause of SGS screen problem. <-------- What screen problem?!!!!
So you might aswell buy a SGS OR HTC DE HD.

Did i miss some news some where?
I've never heard of a screen problem on the SGS
there have been single instances here and there, but nothing major like the internal SD problems...
back on topic
1) it will depend on the manufacture, don't count on Samsung, HTC will have it out before Samsung as usual
2) is hard to say, unless we can play with 2.3 there is no way to compare it to 2.2
3) yes it can run it, and eventually it will be released just like 2.2, knowing Samsung and their horrible customer service, 2.3 will be out like on 2012, if it took them so long to release 2.2 (2010/2011)
4) prices are all guess work, there is no way of knowing until the device is advertised by the carriers
thanks to all who replied but can u guys plz just stick to the 4 questions i asked

Well, to answer all 4 at once:
GingerBread is not out yet, only speculation are made as of now.
Nobody knows if it'll be out for SGS, nobody knows what will be the Nexus S (or 2), no one can tell if it will be released to the public.
So, basicaly, if you'r waiting on speculation, you can wait a long time!
And, when it's out, another device will be rumored and will be the next best hype!

1) If you have the patience, then maybe wait for gingerbread. Only thing is tho, when gingerbread comes out, im sure something new will be leaked out and then you're gonna want to wait for that. Gingerbread is to be released soon i believe.
2) I think for differences on the SGS, gingerbread MIGHT not be as smooth as froyo or eclair, mainly because who knows if samsung will release an official update, or if it will have to be a ported version. Having said that, i find froyo to be much smoother than eclair (using docs bell rom V1.1)
3) I think the SGS will be able to handle gingerbread hardware wise, seeing as how the tab is supposed to get it, and the SGS and tab are somewhat similar in the hardware department
4) Prices will likely be similar to the prices of the phones that are out right now, anywhere from 300 - 600 i would say, depending on if you take the contract way or buy it outright.
well so to conclude
should i wait for a gingerbread device to come and buy it or just buy Sgs now ?
- If I were you, I would buy the SGS now.
- Who cares if it gets gingerbread or not, its a very nice phone as it is.
+1
Get the SGS, its an excellent device out of the box. If you want a little monster just add Lagfix; if you want to experiment, upgrade to 2.2 and so on until you brick it and you end up in these forums crying for help lol jk
If you "wait" you will WAIT forever, cause when you get a device with gingerbread 2 days after you will see a new device with honeycomb. If you wait for honeycomb then you will have a dilemma with Icecream, or waffles or LOLCAKES or w/e the next release is called
and so on... you will spend the rest of your life "waiting" ... like a slogan says.. JUST DO IT!!
Hope that helps

help me deside.

Hi
I have ben looking to buy the lg 2x optimus for a while. Reports of isues, the phone not working proberly, battery, bluetooth isues and so on, have ben holdning me off. And i have infact started to look for other phones, then i saw that cyanogenmod are adding support for this phone, and its getting pretty close. So i was wondering, will these isues that people are having, be resolved in cyanogenmod?
The reason i am looking for the optimus 2x, is because its only a 4", i think 4.3" is a bit to big, also if cyanogenmod is coming, and all the "isues" are solved with the phone i really thing this could be a nice phone that should be able to run icecream pretty good aswell, so it wont be outdated in ½ year.
oh, also its on sale atm.. should i strike or wait?

I think most of the issues are software issues and are getting fixed piece by piece. The real hardware issue, you sent the phone for warrenty.....
So I would go for the O2X. I have it since day one, and only Issue I had since then that the phone powerd off like 3 times. 3 Times in 2/3 months is ok for me Since the update it hasn't powerd itself off yet.

I was a HTC user. Almost all the smarthphones i've owned were from HTC.
All the HTC phones I've rooted. Not cause of custom roms or whatever.
Just some setting changes etc...
The O2X I havn't rooted yet. Why? Cause it works as it should work.
On the first stock rom I could get 1.5/2 days out of the battery. And even got 4 days (disabled internet). And now with the new rom I get one day. So that is also a software thing. But still I don't see the need of rooting the phone.
The phone works very good out of the box.

i am comming from a htc desire, that is running cyanogenmod, and tbh i wouldent be able to live with anything else, than that or a clean android experience.
For those, who are considering to buy O2X, my advice it to wait till gingerbread update is released. The phone is a promising one and I also think most of the problems described here, are software related. The UI is quite laggy sometimes, some people have reboot/battery drain/low incall quality etc. So w8 til gingerbread arrives.

I agree with you. Wait for Gingerbread. If this update will not resolve all the problems then its a ****y product.
tnx for the response, desided to wait it out and see.. TBH unless the cm version for it, is bad, or anything like that, i would probaly buy it. I dont plan on running a stock rom any way, i am considering it just because there is cm for it

TBH it's a ****ty product for now and hopefully new firmwares will fix it; for now it's a strange and very picky device. I always think back to the days I just got my HTC Hero; that device only got "fixed" due to paul 'o brien and the cyanogenmod team otherwise i had been selling it a long time ago. Still got the hero though and recently flashed one of the latest oxygen roms on it and it actually amazed me how solid and fast it was; that is one of the beauties of these kind of phones; the communities behind it fixing things.

But as long the HW isent "bad" or there are isues with the hardware, i dont see why the phone wouldt be a good buy, as long you know, you need to root and mod it, in order to get a prober phone.
after all the tmobile version runs pretty good i am told, so its more or less software isues?

The stock android experience on the tmobile version still has some of the quirks we experience in the rest of the world, but even with the LG crapware software layer it can be an awesome phone but just don't treat it as a normal android phone; leave the LG crap in place and build on top of it or your phone will reboot/hang/go black (in my experience)

so just to be clear, if i remove all the lg crapware, the phone will run badly ?i thought it was the other way around.
As things stand OP, I just wouldn't bother with this phone...
Had it nearly a month now.. fantastic hardware but the software sucks big time. Super slow and battery life sucks (probably due to software).
Thoughts of waiting for Gingerbread are all well, but LG managed to screw up the current software so well that I have complete faith that they will also screw up that too.
In a couple of months the Galaxy S2 will be out followed a bit later by the Atrix.. I dare say they won't be perfect but I don't think they can be as bad as LG's "effort"..
I really wish I had a HTC Desire, a 2 year old phone over my O2X...
Don't get me wrong, I love Android to pieces, but IMHO if Google can't sort out the mess that too many manufacturers are making of their OS by sticking their own crap on top and making it awful... it'll just push people towards Apple (who I hate). The man in the street just wants a phone that works and doesn't want to be messing around with custom roms etc.
This phone needs a lot of work to make it useable. Out of the box, this phone was crap, battery died within 10 hours, hanged 2-3 times when charging and browsing and needed to take out the battery.
I have some spare time this weekend and finally tried the vanilla rom from paul. It works perfect! No lg crapware, just pure google.
I'm using opera for my browser, listen to music for 4-5 hours with poweramp, downloaded some apps, play samurai 2, and the battery finally died after 30 hours!
Hello,
I have been reading this forum in the past few days but I still can not decide what smartphone should I buy for my birthday which is in about 2 weeks.
To be honest I have never owned a smartphone before, so when I decided to get one recently, I thought it might be better start off with a medium category Samsung Galaxy Ace for about 135 EUR (discounted price as a loyal sub-er).
However, after some further readings I realised it might be better to get a premium category O2X for about 270 EUR (with the same discount), since it will not outdate as fast as SGA, so probably I can use it for 2-3 years while SGA has already lesser apps and its slower processor will be outdated relatively soon. I do not intend to buy any new phone for 2-3 years after I get one now.
Also as a newbie, I think it will take me some time to get familiar with android features so waiting for updates should not be an issue for me (having the freezes and Gingerbread in mind).
As it stands now, O2X seems to be a better investment for me for the long term, but as I have no experience wiht smartphones at all I would like to hear your opinion as well - thanks in advance.

those here that can cope with the o2x know what we've been talking about. How does a fresh one fit in?
- need 2x day on a battery?
don't go near android (but it can be done)
- need an ios like expeience?
the o2x is a no go; you're better of with a high end htc phone
- cutting edge?
the o2x could be it; for now the nexus 1 and nexus S are a better choice
- UX
sense -> go htc! or maybe Sony/Eric
- the most powerfull phone
hey this could be it, for 4 months
You should buy it, cuz it hasent locked bootloader and it very easy phone for the developers, so there will be very good roms, and btw. CM7 is on the way :=)

Thanks for feedback.
The problem is that my provider currently sells 3 types of HTC: Wildfire, Desire and Desire HD. HTC DHD would cost 430 EUR which seems too much for me, normal desire would cost nearly as much as O2X.
Also nexus phones are not avaliable at my provider and there are only 3 types of Xperias avaliable from S/E which I dont really like.
I am kinda bound to my current provider so I do not think I have too many possibilities..

[Q] Final verdict . To buy or not 2X ?

Well guys im going to buy my first android on 18 July .! n im really confused by the comments n going through all the treads about the reboot related problems of this phone .! n now im really scared to buy this phone also i want a future proof phone as this will be my last phone from parents n i can buy my next phone after 3-4 yrs only ..! So guys plz help me weather to buy this phone or not .! Even if i get a defective piece will the problem be corrected in future updates or i will have to keep a defective phone for the next 4 years .! Also as in from india does India getting too much defective pieces ? or its just with some people when it comes to India ..
waiting for your suggestion ..!
Based on *my* experience I would not buy this phone again. It's unstable (over 60 recorded reboots since I bought the phone on April 18) and lacks proper support from LG (why does this not surprise me?). In my opinion, LG, again, fails to deliver on it's promises and keeps on spreading lies on whether or not an "update" fixes the reboot problem. I don't see this phone last for more than 2 years of intensive use, let alone 4 years. In that case, go for another brand although I won't start suggesting specific models.
FYI: I'm an experienced Android and used nearly every ROM available to remedy the problems I experienced.
Personally I think this phone is great. I hardly get any reboots or problems.
Install CM7, Paul's Modaco rom or the latest stock release and you'll be fine.

So mate u haven't got any problem like this before ? i mean the phone is all ok for ya ? rit ?
I'm also a happy owner of the 2x, that is however because I was able to buy it at less than half the retail price from the company I work at. As a lot of people already have mentioned the phones hardware is really good and by flashing custom ROM's like cm7 or Modace the phone becomes "ok" for everyday usage. However for a smartphone valued over 500€ it is way to buggy to stand up among its competitors in the same price range. Seriously; I simple cannot understand why anybody would buy this phone instead of, for example, the SII or the HTC Sensation. The 2x is a nice phone, no doubt about that, but I would seriosly save a couple of bucks and buy one of the other phones I mentioned = better hardware and working software + working customer support. (btw the camera is also lousy compared to the SII and Sensation - even with the HD mods...)
I'm not a LG hater, and I'm really happy with my 2x - seriously most people are still pretty much amazed by my phone when I'm toying aroung with it running cm7 with SPB Shell 3D, [email protected] 1,5ghz, dsp manager etc. but yeah It seriously cannot be compared to a Sensation or SII
I haven'd hat any reboot both with stock rom and custom roms. In my opinion stock rom was quite well usable except the battery drain. But Paul fixed it quite good, which makes it possible to charge the phone every second day with reasonable constant usage
kind regards
I cant compare to a Sensation or a SII since I haven't touched them but for me at this stage the LG is SUPER. Hope you made a good choice and that you are happy with it!
you buy't
I am a new user of this wonderfull phone. i have waiting a lot of time this phone because is like samsung s2 on the performance but on a price much afordable. On this phone you pay only the hardware and software of the amazing android but on the HTC and Samsung a 10% you pay the logo, the brand. good luck and from my experience i recomend't
I´m very satisfied whit my LG and haven´t had any problems whit it

I haven'd hat any reboot both with stock rom and custom roms. In my opinion stock rom was quite well usable except the battery drain. But Paul fixed it quite good, which makes it possible to charge the phone every second day with reasonable constant usage

same here.. great quality and "open" like a google dev phone haha
I have it from the early begining and used only with MoDaCo ROMs , had no problems. Would buy it again.
Actualy I believe that most of the problems other have is because of basebands version incompatibility with instaled RIL...
I like my LG 2X. To me it has the best spec for the price range and good ROM from Paul and CM7. But if money is not a problem, get galaxy S2.

Would you advise me getting LG Optimus 2x?

So yeah, the title pretty much says it. Basically, I could get any phone on the market (except iPhone, it's too expensive and I don't like it). I thought about Galaxy S II, but I have heard it overheats and they don't sell the G model in my country. I also thought about the HTC EVO 3D, but I've heard it has bad cameras and a bad CPU (old architecture). So are there any other good choices? If you do think there are, please choose from here: http://elisa.ee/et/Eraklient/Pood
Thanks for the answers!
just get the galaxy s 2.
thats what i would have done if i knew that there would be such huge problems with nvidia and their damned source code.
I personally like my P990, but if NVIDIA/LG doesn't release something soon it might be not very interesting...
the galaxy II seems like a very good phone, I would go with that one
otherwise maybe the Xperia arc S?
I think the freexperia team is doing a pretty good job
So guys, I still decided to buy the 2X. The Galaxy S2 was 500 euros and I just thought that I could put that 200 euros that was left over into building a bad-ass gaming PC in the future. I'm satisfied with it right now, the stock ROM doesn't lag nearly as bad as I thought although the newest available in my country is 2.2.2 FroYo. Of course, I will root it and slap a custom ROM on it later.
Well, welcome to the family then, and I will see you around .
If you think the stock rom works fine, you should immediately root and install the lastest CM7 nightly and see how it blows your mind =D

root and put CM7 nightly on it, you won't be disappointed
(do a back-up so you can easily restore stock, just in case)
I would avoid this stutter lag piece of hardware the worst phone that I used in my 17 years of phones...

If you don't know how to use a smartphone better shut up.
@Topic starter:If you can get a S2 then go for it.It's a little bit better.Even so, 2 of my friends had overheating problems.
I still recommend O2X and I don't regret that i bought it.With a custom rom it runs very smooth and gaming is a pleasure.LG/Nvidia support could be better.

are you hurry with the smartphone??, because there will be LG 4x quad core with tegra 3 and ofcourse exynos chipset with quad core but not released yet. you should see gsmarena.com there are HTC, ZTE, huawei(if not mistaken) will get tegra 3. so the question are you really hurry in buying smartphone?? if you're in hurry yes take o2x, it's good price, and it will come CM9 based on ICS(4.0.3). but CM7 is good with KANG and etana kernel or ironkernel
I would advise you reading a bit more... there are far too many "comparison" thread floating around.
Cheers!

[Q] Time to upgrade........

OK, its time to upgrade my trusty DHD.....
...but what gets my hard-earned (no, really) pennies?
To me there are 4 options........
1) HTC One X
2) Samsung Galaxy Note
3) Wait until the 30th and get the Samsung Galaxy SIII
4) Keep the DHD for another 12 months and benefit from a cheaper contract.
So, if it was your pennies getting spent, where would they be going?
I'm looking for views from existing SGN users here. Do you love the Note? Hate it? What do you like most about it, and what drives you potty?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
Rob
I love my note. It's definitely my favorite phone out of the 8 smartphones I've owned (iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4, HTC Sensation, Samsung Vibrant, LG G2X). The downside? It is the most disappointing phone development wise. There doesn't seem to be any good ROM out there. Stock is painfully slow. There is no CM7 which is really disappointing. Any of the ICS I've seen out has had major problems which is why I haven't upgraded yet. There are horror stories about people bring their phones when upgrading to ICS and so far it doesn't seem to be a small number of people which is really sad. Samsung is JUST rolling out ICS now but I've heard stock ICS is also very slow and if you have CWM on or from what I understand have rooted your phone at all, you run a huge risk of bricking if you try put ICS on.
TL DR; If you don't mind staying stock for a WHILE, get the Note because it's awesome having a huge screen, resolution, and the SPen.
EDIT: Spelling

Exactly my thoughts! Thanks for saving me the trouble of typing. I am lazy as hell.
I flashed tons of ROMs and back to stock. At least I won't be bricking my phone this way.

To the OP: If I were you, I would get the One X or the S3, depending on the needs. Like I need the sd card and removable battery so it would rather be the S3 for me. Assuming you haven't used the note for long, both these phones must feel great to you. For almost all of us here, they are just too darn small. Once you use a note, you just get addicted to it.

Thanks guys. Keep them coming.
I played with the Note and the HOX today and liked them both, but the huge Note battery is drawing me towards it.
I'm 6'1" and have hands like pan-shovels so the size of the Note isnt a -ve to me.
love mine too!
Yeah loving the bigger screen. I'd never go back to something smaller.
On a different note.. (haha) had mine a month and have rooted and switched the rom and Kernel.. wasn't very hard just had to get over the mind set of bricking it.
Buy one!
Note, large screen, s-pen apps (if you're inclined to use them), some good roms, ICS development with the new builds should be on their way soon
the rest? S3, rather than 1x. or at least wait till reviews come out comparing the 2.
wait
wait for Galaxy S3 - I allready have it and It's awsome!!!

The Note is fabulous - better than the GNex I came from. Why? The screen principally - the Galaxy nexus screen just seemed so small compared!
I think the answer is this:
1. If you want the latest tech - go for the One X or the S3.
2. However, as it's so early in their life cycle you don't know what problems they will have (other than we already know the OneX has cr*p battery life) and we all know that no phone is perfect. Each phone I've had (and I've had a few) has had it's own unique issue.
3. If screen size is important, forget the other two and go for the Note. There is just simply no question of that (until Note II is announced in future!)
Maybe quad core will be a bit faster than dual core but I doubt it will make much of a difference in everyday use. In any event, I hate TW / Sense etc so always remove that bloatware and, hey presto, android flies on the Note (not that it was sluggish with TW).
And the lack of reliable ICS at the moment? In the words of Catherine Tate (look her up if you're not British!) - am I bovvered? There's such a clamour for it and, yes, it's a bit prettier and more logical in places but GB is absolutely fine for 99.98%.
Just my £0.02. Good luck with the decision.
Edit: Just seen that you're a brit - no need to look up Catherine Tate! More importantly, just realised you've got a DHD. Move on, you won't be disappointed. Sure, tech will move on over the next few monts, years etc but it always does.

Thanks for that. I agree with your assessment, especially ICS which is definitely leaving me underwhelmed in terms of how "un-different" (new word!) it is to GB, especially after having used Honeycomb on my tablet for the past 6 months.
I've decided (with a feeling of I'm cheating on a loved one) to get a Note online, then I can return it under distance selling laws if I find it unbearable to live with. I suspect it wont be going back.
Genuinely, many thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Your insight has been much appreciated.

I love the large screen and battery of the Note.
The S3 is more future proof, but only because of the processors. RAM is the same.
One thing in the s3's favor is the LED notification light! w00t! I have been missing this on EVERY device that wasn't a blackberry!
The s3 also has a large battery, but .. the Note takes the cake.
The One X is out of the picture. Why? Removable battery. Also, they pushed the device so fast to get it out on the market as one of the first quadcore devices that ... well, to me it doesn't seem that attractive. The s3 on the other hand looks mighty fine!
The Note is awesome for its screen and battery size (as well as the S-Pen).
It's really your call... Sometimes I wish my note were a tiny bit smaller, but I don't regret it when I'm actually using it! hehe.
I upgraded from DHD to galaxy note and can say it was the upgrade. Absolutely amazing display over DHD, much better battery life, faster, smoother, much better camera, etc. When I look back now to already my wife's DHD, it seems to be a nice small phone ... Was able to replace most of work on my laptop with note thanks to Swype ...
I have both on stock ROM, didn't find need to go for ICS on my note. Everything is working flawlessly, maybe will change my mind half year later when there will be more positive reaction from community ... my few cents .

One thing that's driving me mad is the sluggishness of the stock Gingerbread ROM. Is the official ICS ROM still sluggish?
If so, would rooting the phone and deleting some of the bloat help? Also, is it possible to remove Touchwiz from the official ROM? I'm a bit scared to try any other ROMs in case I brick my phone.
I've had my note since november and I love it!! The huge screen is so much fun and great to surf the web!!! It doesn't feel bigger in my pocket than my previous phone (iPhone). Even though it has a huge screen the battery life is really good (especially with my actual rom Criskelo)
I haven't tried the other phones you posted but I am still trying to understand why anyone would need a quadcore in his phone today!! I installed spy cpu on my SGN and my CPU almost never rises to 1400MHz so what could anyone do with the extra power maybe 3D games since I don't play any so can't tell about the performances but I doubt it since the note still has one of the best processors out there! The games I play are: solitaire, temple run, fruit ninja,...

I don't really notice the sluggishness, everything seems smooth!! The rom I am using is lighter than the stock rom so there may be a difference! If you wan't to remove Touchwiz you'd better install a new rom on your phone would be easier than to modify the stock rom! In either case you need to root your phone! At first didn't want to do it but in the end I am happy and giving some good feedback about the rom I am using! And the bricking is pretty rare!!
To install a new rom if you literally follow instructions you can't run into problems!! A bit of research and in the end it just takes 10/15min to change rom!

That's an easy one. Root and install one of the stock rooted GB Roms. No need to 'remove' TW. Just install another launcher (let's not start the 'which launcher is best' argument here) and then set that as default. TW will fade into the background and won't be used and your Note will be faster.

Only 2100mah I think? Not that big - nearly 20% smaller than the Note.
2) Samsung Galaxy Note
