[Q] Get rid of Superuser - LG Revolution

So I had my revo rooted. Unrooted and flashed stock recovery. Superuser application is still there. Have tried almost everything to get rid of it but can't. Tried factory reset, unrooting using SuperOneClick, unrooting with AllInOne...
No Idea what to do. Help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Did you try the LGPNST "update" method?
Sent from my BROKEN OUT Revolution.

What's that?

Ok you are going to have to root your phone again in order to get rid of it. Go here and download the tool. Follow the directions to root your phone, then turn around and follow the directions to unroot it. You should be good then.

I've had this happen to me too. But when I used the LGNPST it formated my phone so it was as good as new.

[Q] Error while updating from rooted zv7 to zv8 using Mt's AIO. Please help!

I'm baffled as to what I did wrong during the initial root of zv7 software. I can't unroot, can't recover, can't root to zv8 or upgrade. I'm using MT's AIO root app and just can't seem to understand. I guess there's a reason I'm a noob. this is what i get:
unable to open log device "/dev/log/main" no such file or directory
And then from there it won't add new root files, remove trash etc.

You can't keep gingervolt as of right now, but I'm sure a vz8 gingervolt will be coming out. I would first make sure you take an image with cmw before you do anything with your phone.
I first rooted the the device like in the first thread about maintaining root from vz7 to vz8 thread. It worked after I got LGNPST working, but I still wanted CWM. When MT came out with the script, I gave that a try but had permission issues. If you have an image you can restore to pre gingervolt, I would try that, then use MT's tool to apply stock recovery. I had to run the tool twice before it would take and I didn't get anything puking at me and I got stock recovery. Make sure you still have root. I then prepare for update, update, then apply root and cmw.
If you don't have a pre gingervolt image, Follow the instructions to put the vz7 tot back on your phone found here. Then root only. After you have root, I would then prep for vz8, update, then root and install cmw.
If everything is successful, I would take a post install image with cmw.
Thanks a bunch. I will get to this tonight and let you know the results. I have confidence it will work. Since I'm a noob, it won't let me post an image, but I'll upload it to photobucket and hyperlink. Thanks again! PM me your paypal and I will throw some scratch your way.
I'm new to this also so it is some trial and error. Just keep working at it. No need to send me any money. If you want to make a donation, send it to MT, Spc.Hicks or one of the other developers who keep this phone going.
Here's where I'm at with the process.
Still rooted on zv7. Tried to do stock recovery (unroot with zv7 stock rom) but wouldn't recognize my battery or sim card. I am only able to run rooted zv7 with GV 2.0 in order to use all functions of phone. Unable to update OTA to zv8. The stock zv7 will not work, therefore had to flash GV2.0 with root. The problems I had before was sound not working, music player plays, but no sound, and when the phone was on and the screen would turn off automatically, it wouldn't turn back on. The buttons along the bottom would light up, but no screen. It was at this point that I had to return to rooted zv7 with GV2.0.
The Update Process
Hey I had a lot of trouble coming from MT's 2.0 V7 to V8 Root with Revovery. Let me see if I can help. This method worked for me. Follow it if you like.
1. First start from scratch using LGPST and V7 .TOT. Just follow the instuctions from the [FIX] Updated by accident? thread by hilong08.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211295
I did have trouble installing the .dll. Just run the CMD as an administrator to install it without errors.
2. Run the old All in one from MT to root your phone only.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348557
3. Once its rooted download terminal emulator from the market and do this
Type su and then enter you should see a "#". Next type echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop. It should create a file called local.prop in your /data directory.
you could manually do it with root explorer too.
4. Now wait for the Verizon OTA (over the air) update or manually search.
5. Now you should be on V8.
6. Run the AIO bat by MT to root and install CWM , option 2. I believe we manually did option 1 so theres no need to do it once on V8.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566729
7. You should be root with CWM. I thought I didnt install this right the first time after about 3 fresh installs over a period of 2 days. CWM is installed man, even if you dont see it, i had to use quick boot from the market to boot into revovery.
Another thing if your phone loses sound check your /data/local.prop and change it to local.prop.bak and reboot. I also had a problem and it was freaking me out.
good luck
Stop V8 notifications
If you want to keep your phone from trying to update while in V7, use root explorer to rename /system/lib/ libdme_main.so to libdme_main.bak; I renamed three days ago with no update notifications to date. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1236896.html
I'm still not getting anywhere. I'm back to root with gv2.0 with no sound. I'm just afraid to do anything else. Can someone call me or do a remote session? I'm ****ing retarded.
No no no. Go to development section and flash the v8 tot. Easiest way to get to v8

I hear you. I'm holding off until MT gets a new and stable Gingervolt released for it. My phone works just fine on V7 w/GV2.0. Why fix something that isn't broken?
Ok I finally got my phone back to stable working condition with gingervolt and root on zv7. Can someone tell me step-by-step how to stop the zv8 update? Were going to have to dig deep on this one. I'm shallow on my terminology, and have no clue if I even have root explorer, or how to use it. I really wish there were college classes on how to understand this stuff. I know it's linux based, but you really have to be passionate about this stuff to understand. If you guys wanted to know about bikes, I could tell you how to build one from scratch! To each their own i suppose. Thanks in advance for everyone's help getting me this far. I really do appreciate all your hard work.

Noobzilla,
Here is how another user took care of the update. Take some time and look through the development section here as well. I know there are some ways to move to the update and maintain the root as well.

Lot of us are waiting for MT to release GV 2.1 with V8 update. I was in your boat and planning to go back to stock just to see how V8 updates looks like. After reading the forms a lot of us decide to wait for new release. I would honestly suggest to wait for few weeks, stock V8 has so much bloat that you may not like it. I would suggest to donate to MT and other developers because they really rock. Just my 2 cents.

Noob you need to get back all the way stock on zv7 so either use the zv7.tot file or flash the zv7 backup my has posted in the development section after you have flashed the zv7 backup your going to run the zv7 all in one and select unroot this will unroot and put stock recovery on your phone after you have stock recovery and no root your going to run Mrs new all in one to get you where you need to be I haven't done this yet so you may have to run the other all in one selecting the option root only then run the new all in one easiest way for help is getting on the irc channel you might have to wait a little bit for help but someone will show up. Also give thanks to mt for creating this all in one for you guys eliminating the need for you guys having to learn how to use adb but I encourage everyone to get the sdk and learn how to use adb as your next phone may not have options such as a all in one check out this thread in the thunderbolt forum on how to root unlock and install cwm recovery on it. It will really make you appreciate all the work my has put into making these all in ones the script doesn't know what to do until my has typed all this stuff already.
Here is the thunderbolt method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12159325 that's not exactly what's being done on the revolution but still a good read but imagine having to do all that to get root on your phone I encourage reading it as it will help you understand what's going on in a script that particular method was published by jcase who is an awesome exploit finder and this method includes getting temp root in order to flash an older hboot version allowing you to downgrade to a version that had already been unlocked and getting root there enabling you to get perma root and a unlocked bootloader and involves using a terminal and adb and will really get you comfortable with adb and appreciate all the keystrokes mt has saved you. *Also do not try that thunderbolt method on your revolution* I'm not positive what will happen but I am confident it will not be good.

Sounds like everyone is waiting for MT to push a new version of GV. I have decided to do the same. I used Root Explorer to change the file extension of the update file. I did this about a day after my last post on this thread and had no problems. Running GV and flashing Fusion as we speak on ZV7. Phone works great. Thanks for everyone's help!

Stock ZV8

Hello all! I am currently on Stock ZV8. Is there any probability that the All-in-one root tool will be updated to support getting root from ZV8? I've tried the downgrade to ZV7 and it just so happens I'm not that skilled to get it to work. Thanks for your thoughts,
-Trevor
I should have updated here and not at the end sorry!
WOW was that fun! I followed the instructions on your link and was able to successfully downgrade to ZV7 non root.
Then I used the Allinone to root while on ZV7.
I then used MT's method here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1583023 to keep root through ZV8 and get CWM back.
Then I just wiped and flashed breakout.
It wasn't hard, I just took my time and followed each instruction very deliberately. I got confused because it said to extract the .tot file. Well there was no need for that.
It's all fresh in my memory if anyone needs any help Thanks for everyone here helping me!
What kind of problem do you seem to have???
The AIO is simply plug in your ZV7 phone click #1
Update the phone
Click #2.??
The problem is I'm stock ZV8 (not rooted). I cannot get CWM to install so I can't flash to ZV7. It is unfortunate
when i got to ZV8, running #2 didn't work, so i reran #1 from the aio tool then ran #2 and it got me all squared away. i then downloaded quickboot to access cwm.
I guess I'll give it a shot, I didn't think I could root from ZV8

I did everything you did up to there but the #1 and #2 didn't work as I ended up in unrooted VZ8.
I though I was screwed so I figured I'd Factory Reset.
Selected Factory Reset.
It rebooted the phone and I suddenly found my self in CWM..
SO I factory reset from there and flashed Break Out..
Reset the phone and ended up back in CWM and I'm currently trying to get around this because it keeps taking me back to CWM no matter what I do
I'm still stock ZV8 I got this error:
http://imgur.com/MZPie
ATM I've gotta say consider yourself lucky your phone boots up. I'm messing around in CWM with backups to see if anything will fix my broken phone. Luckily I've got a backup that used to work, the Stock 7 rom and Breakout and Gingervolt. I'm hoping I can restore/wipe/replace something to let my phone boot
Yeah I think I'll just wait till a ZV8 All-in-one root comes around.

So you may be able to put this file on your SD card Factory reset your phone from where your at. install your new rom (if thats what you were trying to do) then flash the file above.
I'm just hoping with all the flashing I did above I didn't loose the ZV8 part needed for Break Out to work..
Hey I didnt.. Sweet ish. Now I'm getting the force close which apparently is fixable. I'm happy now

You do not need CWM installed to get to V7. Just go here, follow instructions and choose the V7.tot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337386
If you are using Windows 7, I would recommend turning UAC off before installing LGNPST. It will save you alot of headaches.

No zv8 OTA update after MT's zv7tozv8 flash.

First off, here is what I was following: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583023
I have followed instructions and am stuck on step 4: Update to zv8. I cannot get the OTA update to initiate. I have waited 48 hours for it to automatically push and have tried to manually get it by initiating Check New under About Phone. It states that I do not have an update.
Before MT's instructions, I was on GV2.0 with Blitzkreig on zv7. Flashing his zip file was smooth. Just not getting the zv8 OTA.
Here is my phone's current state:
SW Version: VS910ZV7
Build #: GRJ22
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf [email protected] #1
Android Version: 2.3.4
With Root Checker Pro, it states that I have root. I have Superuser installed. I checked in Titanium Pro to make sure I don't have Software Update 1.0 frozen, and I do not. In Rom Manager, I tried flashing CWM and did not have issues. When trying to boot into recovery via Rom Manager, it just sticks on a blank black screen after the LG splash screen. When booting after a poweroff using Power+Vol Down, I get a prompt asking whether or nt I want to do a factory reset. I can accept or cancel. I do not get to the CWM recovery menu.
Not really sure what I need to do. The phone is functional, just hate LG's UI.
I would like to get to Breaked Out on zv8 if possible. I would probably even be fine with GV2 on zv7, but I cannot get to CWM to flash GV2. I still have that zip on my external SD.
I did some searching and did not find answers on similar issues like mine. If I missed it, my apologies. Please direct me to the thread I missed if I have done so.
Thank you!
The first time you boot into revovery you go through the "delete everything" screen. I freaked my first time and prayed I didn't lose everything.
Edit: Be 100% positive you are rooted and have CWM installed before though. Don't blame me if it all goes to hell..

There is a method now for rooting zv8 without the need to downgrade. So I would suggest grabbing the zv8 tot file and using lgnpst to flash to the most current software, then use the root method found here:

OK... so this sounds promising, but if you don't mind asking a couple of my questions before I go down this road.
I looked at your link and didn't find an answer to the following questions:
1. Are there any pre-requisites to following your linked method? (Like do I need to be on a particular Kernel, SW or ROM for that method to work?)
2. The final result will be rooted stock zv8, correct?
My current state is zv7. My main concern is that you need to be on zv8 already in order to run through the method you Linked.

That's right - you can use LGNPST to get to ZV8, then use that Root Method. I had the same trouble as you did with getting the OTA - I kept getting errors and could not get the update, even though a month ago it worked fine with mt's zv7 to zv8 root zip (I actually was the first person to test that method). I finally gave up and figured out how to do it using the new root method and one of mt's other tools and I am back on BO 1.1 now. I detailed how I did it here:

Nothing particular that you need to be on as far as ROM is concerned. I can't find the thread right now but in the development section there is a list of the stock software versions, the most current being zv8. Essentially all you will need to do is download that and use lgnpst to load it on your phone. it's basically forcing the latest update to your phone instead of waiting for the ota to happen. After that, follow the link in my previous post to download the root script and run that. The end result is stock rooted zv8.

is for those already on ZV8. So I am still on ZV7.
I will attempt http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211295 with dl'ing PS910ZV8 and using LGNPST to install it even though i'm currently ZV7.
Then, I'll use the Esteem Root method to gain root and MT's AIO for CWM.
Is that good?
that should be the ticket.. Good luck!

OK... so the upgrade to ZV8 was so smooth. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! The only snag is that when registering the .dll, I had to do it through cmd as an administrator since I'm on W7 64bit. No worries though.
Now I have run into a snag where MT's CWM Recovery for ZV8 is failing. Please see the attached screenshot of the failures.
With Root Checker Pro, it says that i have successfully rooted my phone and BusyBox is successful too.
When I try to reboot into CWM from MT's CWM Recovery for ZV8, it sticks on a blank screen after the LG logo splash screen. The same thing happens when rebooting into Recovery from Rom Manager.
Am I missing something?

Yes - same thing happened to me when I followed your steps. Follow this:

Steps 3 through 8 are what you haven't done yet. Try them and see if it works. If it doesn't work try using LGNPST to go back to unrooted zv8 and try again (not sure if that'll be necessary).

[Q] Returning Phone - Need to go back to factory

First off, I'm a long-time iPhone user, first time Android owner.
I have an SM-G900A rooted with towelroot and I have to send it back to AT&T for a warranty concern with the front facing camera. I see some elaborate guides on how to flash back to stock. Is that necessary? Will a factory reset from recovery mode do the trick? I'd hate to attempt that first and end up with a brick.
Thanks.
It depends on what you've done with your phone.
The guides are the most complete ways to unroot and remove all traces that the phone was ever rooted. The easiest way to unroot would be to unroot from the settings in the supersu app, that you can find in the playstore. But after that you would need to re-install the supersu app, but don't run it, and then uninstall it again from phone settings. You have to do both steps to remove all traces of root. I've tried each one separate, and yes, some signs were still there. But if you modified the phone in any way, then those modifications may possibly remain.
And no, a factory reset will not remove root. All that does is wipe your userdata, but the root is inside the phone's ROM.

Are you trying to sideload an OTA update through the Nexus Root Toolkit? If so you can stop, it won't work (OTA doesn't work if system has been messed with, root, recovery and so on).
Either use the button to go back to stock in NRT or use the link billycar11 provided above to download and flash a factory image through fastboot (the method I prefer, more control over the process. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/guide-flash-factory-images-nexus-6shamu-t2954008).
no I'm just trying to go back to stock. I have never had this issue before. something wrong with Twarp I think.. I just need to get back to stock!
