First! !! Can't wait for this thread to get going just got this phone
Love this phone, kinda like a 2 dollar....well you know!
got the Vivid at lunch today, very nice phone.
since 2007 this is my 3rd smartphone. HTC Tilt, HTC Aria, and now the HTC Vivid.
see a theme? NO IPHONE!!
I was dual booting the tilt with windows mobile 6.5 and Android 2.1 before getting the Aria. I rooted the Aria and was loading the Cyanogen mod nightlies.
I can't wait to get this phone rooted and hopefully Cyanogen will pick it up too.
I bought a Vivid yesterday, and am liking it. It adds up to be my 6th HTC phone:
Cingular 8125
Cingular 8525
HTC HD2
HTC Evo 4G
HTC Inspire 4G
HTC Vivid
Looking forward to rooting & installing custom ROMs

Yeah I'm kinda excited for the phone. From what I've seen HTC gets some pretty good Roms! I had a captivate and all the Roms were ok. Moved to the atrix only had 3 real Roms to chose from.. then here... So I'm hoping HTC won't me down

Can't speak for CD, but the BinDroid team has already begun working on the ROM for Vivid. Once we get root we will test it out and then release to the forum. You can head over to the DHD or Inspire forums to see what BD looks like.
Im curious as to whether the Skyrocket or the Vivid will have more developement. Seems the Vivid is going slower than the skyrocket. Not a fan of the hardware for the vivid. Seems heavy and clunky. I think the skyrocket has a much better feel and touch to it.

I'm coming from sgs2. Samsung phones are definitely light weight but i prefer a superior screen quality which comes from higher resolution. Samoled, leaves burn marks on screen, head over to their forum and see, almost all sgs2 have burn marks.

This is great news. The Bindroid Sense 3.5 ROM is easily the best Sense based ROM I've used on my Inspire. Good to know that there will definitely be one great ROM to use on my Vivid if it ever comes off back-order.

where can i read about this thing that these guys are working on it?
Honestly i do not want anything else apart from a debloated rooted ROM. If anything, all i need is root so that I can freeze the bloatware my self. Sense3.5 will be nice though.

There will be a Coredroid Rom. soon there is root the tests will start. As always rom from CD a re e tested for a good period of time so they can be stable as fast as possible so do not expect a rom on same day as root.

If you guys need any testers let me know. I already have an unlocked bootloader.

Alright so im starting this because...well i have had my fair share of android devices. And man do i have to say Im loving this phone. Credit goes out to bananacakes for making a great rom! (love the new aroma installer) Credit to kozmikkick for making a great kernel for benchmarking and allowing me to show off to all my friends. And thanks to slapshot30 for making a GREAT superguide which helped me a good amount in the begining. Yes i am new to XDA or at least in a im not going to just read and leave kind of way. I cant wait for these 10 posts to be done with so i can get into the development side and start giving people props and helping noobs or even just people who are having difficulties. (I have been there)
Alright people iv said my share now i want to hear what you all have to say about the vivid???
Nottach's Dark Raider is simply amazing!
KozmicKKick's kernal is mad fast and stable w/ aroma & great features like zram oc uv and fast charge capable
Pretty chill besides the thread wars
Overall I wish things went smoother dev/user & dev/dev wise
This phone has so much potential and can only go as far as it's development community!
I love my phone and I haven't personally seen one iPhone better or an android that comes close to mine besides my old G2 haha

Are you having a problem working your wifi on dark raider ROM? i am? and my battery drains fast..
I'm pretty much one of the few still rocking the stock ICS Rom (no time for playing roms now), but I wouldn't trade it for any other device out there right now

I always was told that HTC was the worst at updating. But I'm pretty sure that the Vivid was the first phone that didn't ship with ICS to get it. Love this phone!

Vivid is my first HTC phone, I have used SE (back in the days), Moto and Samsung. What impressed me was, the size the the way it felt when held in your hand. I have a company work phone (Moto Atrix 2), and just when I think that is big enough, Vivid just comes along nicely and makes a good impression right out of the box!
The only little downside that I might have with this baby is the battery life. Generally I would plug in to charge overnight. By the time I get up for work, I unplug (around 7am), and by the time I get home (around 6 pm), it would be in the red zone, showing either 14% or less battery left. I am actually less than two miles from the nearest LTE signal tower, so I don't have a problem with the signal. But with regular use (come on, at work, I got the computer with the company work phone and this personal phone), it would be around 50% around lunch time or so.
But I am still loving this baby! Will be still on the look for a better battery performance ROM and/or a larger battery.....
I love mine. Battery life is really my only issue. Ics is a little buggy at times but overall I love the phone! It's lighting quick and smooth and the screen is gorgeous. And Sense took a bit to grow on me but I'm loving it too.

There are a few tips to battery saving throughout the forums, also here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646631
I understand that Sense 4.0 is not so much of a battery hog, let's hope that someone can get it going for the Vivid/Velocity/Raider as they really are very good phones apart from the battery life.
I don't want sense 4,multitasking is broken on it

Yeah this phone is great, everything I wanted my captivate to be but never was. I wasted no time rooting and putting a custom rom on my cappy but I've had this phone since March and I have left it stock and I might just keep it that way, works fine for everything I need and all bloatware can be either disabled or loosely uninstalled. it doesn't look like the firmware you see on the galaxy nexus but sense is beautiful in its own way and the 3.6 launcher has all the features I need

Hey there
Is it possible to get Root and ROM on HTC Desire C? maybe a CM9 thing? or a stock rom with tweeks?
Thanks in advance!
A quick google finds this: http://www.modaco.com/topic/355158-r1-superboot-how-to-root-the-htc-desire-c/
You need to unlock your bootloader via the HTCdev site first.
I was hoping to find a better rom than the garbage preloaded on this. I found Nova launcher helps a lot but I don't know why anyone would want sense on a device. CM9 or AOKP would be pretty great right about now.
My Nexus and GS2 are both in for repair so I picked this up for $100. For the price I guess I can't really complain too much.
its a quite new phone, if this phone gets some developers i will probably buy it

There is no even custom rom, so it will take some time to get at least something custom on it...
Ugh, I hate being a newb on a forum. And yes, I watched the newb video, and I totally get the 10 post rule. I'm not a guru, and I'm not (technically) a newb either. I just have a few simple questions about the Desire C, and I am searching the forums so I don't have to piss anyone off with useless questions that have already being answered.
That being said, it seems like there hasn't been a lot done on the Desire. I've already bootloader unlocked and rooted mine, and I'm in the process of downloading Nameless Rom 2.2 and I'm going to install that when it's done...
I just want to ask one simple question without sounding totally dumb: Will installing a new ROM change the CID? I've been looking into SuperCID but I'm not sure if it supports this phone or not. I'm not JUST trying to network unlock the phone, I'm trying to learn more about Android and mods in general. MY experience ends about a year ago, when I started dating a girl and my computer time slowly diminished... so my knowledge has gotten rusty. I was surprised to see Android 4 ... last time I ROM'd a phone it was to upgrade my friend's phone from 2.1 to 2.2 if I remember correctly.
Anyway, I hope this doesn't get deleted. I really am trying to look through the posts to see if there's more info but it's 8AM and I'm still awake.

try installing a diffrent rom like Nameless, revolution or Blue HaZe as they are way more stable than slim sense and are still being updated (well revoultion and Blue haze are!)
yesterday someone made me an offer on my Inspire, so I decided to get summen new.
Was like why not seeing that the person actually seemed like they wanted to Inspire more than I did.
So decided to choose summen in the HTC line that was comparable in price.
So what are you guys feedback about the phone, did I make a good choice
NB I did say for way i can afford now.
thanks

I love my Vivid. It was pretty good out of the box but after Rooting and installing a ROM of your choice it makes it so much better. Improved battery life, faster speeds, and more options as far as tweaks. Personally, I'm using WCX's rom but there are plenty of others out there floating around that are great. All have positives and negatives just need to find the one that fits you. If you can snag a One X that would be better but the Vivid is just as good. We just don't have a fully functioning Jellybean Rom yet but I don't think we are missing much.
thanks man, what I will do is test it first then root it,. I'll give the WCX rom a try seeing that you were the first one to response and offer some advice.
I was looking at a One X but was $100 or so more than what I paid for the Vivid.
I've been reading some threads where persons were wondering if Vivid would get an official JB update, but from what I gather the roms for this phone would do great,
thanks
G
Just be careful and read a lot before you dive into installing roms. This phone is a little more complicated then some of the other more open phones like the SGS III or Nexus. If you need any help just ask on the board. Plenty of knowledgeable people here to help you from bricking your phone. I'm not trying to scare you but if you don't follow directions it could lead to issues. Again its not hard to root and install a rom but things have to be done in a certain order.
thanks man appreciate it
G
It's a good phone and I you loved your inspire and sense, you'll love the vivid. It's a great stock phone, kinda weak on the development side, but a few guys around here are looking to fix that pretty close to a fully working cm10. Until then, definitely unlock your bootloader and root and put wcx's rom on, it is the best out of box experience hands down. In a nutshell our stock ics rom is a bit quirky, buggy, and laggy at times and battery life flat out sucks. Wcx's rom focuses on fixing all that. It's not all that fancy but he gives you the firmware this phone should of had from the factory!

Got the vivid yesterday and so far so good. Running ICS very fast phone I must say, smooth operation.
I want to root it just wonderit if I should wait a while before doing so?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
Well I will warn you 2 things about rooting this phone. First is the locked bootloader. You can unlock it but it's going to wipe everything. Your internal sd will be fine but you're phone will appear to be straight out of the box, you'll have to install your apps again, you'll loose all game save data, and you'll have to reconfigure your home screen.
Secondly your warranty is effectively void. If you relock your bootloader it'll say "relocked" in your bootloader menu. Only way to make it say locked again is to s-off and the process requires removing a screw with a void sticker.
So do so at your own risk. Just thought I'd give you a head up
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the heads up.
Your second point I don't mind much as I'm not in the US anyway therefore not using at&t or some provider like that.
I don't mind the reconfiguration as well. Is there anything major you can think about that might affect the phone in any negative way?
And how would you suggest I root it?
Thanks
G
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda app-developers app
Nah nothing major, it's hard to brick this thing. Only thing I know for sure that'll brick it is flashing radios. But as far as rooting its pretty straight forward. Also if it doesn't have ics on it, update it first. It been a while since I rooted but their is a whole tutorial on it.

no. nothing. and after you've root, etc., then flash the PACman ROM in the DEV section. jelly bean rom, amazingly smooth, and almost all bugs except bluetooth are worked out

Yea..once you're unlocked, you'll need to flash custom recovery. Once you have that, you can just flash an already rooted ROM.

Is anybody else waiting for HTC to release the 4.2.2 base and seeing what the devs do with it before flashing a custom ROM? I've had my One for about 2 weeks now and it's still unrooted and running the stock ROM (this is the longest I've gone so far).
Just wondering if I'm alone in thinking that the devs will come up with better ROMs based on 4.2 than they currently have out for 4.1
Other than quick toggles, I didn't see many stand out features vin the preview.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
4.2 isn't a huge step forward. There really is no point in waiting to root and unlock. It's still 'JellyBean' with a few extra features so the difference will be minimal, but I'm anxious for those quick settings myself. I'd say root and S-Off now to get it over with so you can flash immediately when 4.2 comes out.
I was going to wait too. But I got my phone two days ago and ended up flashing two days ago as well...

Not to sound like a lame-o but this is the first phone I've owned where I didn't feel the need to root it. Though I had similar feelings with my Epic 4G Touch a few years ago and ended up flashing probably 50 different ROMS, give or take.

I feel the same way, I've never gone this long without rooting a phone/tablet, it's usually a week at most.
This is the same boat I am in. I am not doing any of the over the air updates so it will be easier to root when it gets to that point. I am actually quite impressed with the phone (coming from the Evo 4g), I've actually thought about keeping this thing stock...then I remember that it will only get faster if I root and flash.
Yup, stock and not rooted. Waiting for the 4.2.2 and hopefully a working flashable rom of the Google Edition One with everything stable. I really want lockscreen widgets. This is the first phone where I'm not willing to sacrifice the stability of the phone, because sense 5 is pretty damn good. I'd definitely prefer an equally stable AOSP rom though.

Well.... if you look at some posts here from yesterday (2 posts up ) you will see the statement.... " Waiting for the 4.2.2 "
I waited a few weeks and started thinking that HTC dev unlock will wipe the device so I might as well get started. That and the process will be quicker once Sprint releases and development starts working to fix any of the unintended features on the new release.
