Hey guys!!
I am thinking about rooting my note ....I am bit worried. I have LB2 right now and I am going to downgrade to KL3. Will it affect performance of my note in any way. I have heard that on previous versions of firmwares game performance was not so good. I have latest version so gaming is just amazing. Will it be affected after rooting to lower version? Please note that I am not going to use custom roms. I just need rooted phone. Furthermore, if OTA update is available can I update it over the air even if I am rooted?
Regards,
Abhi.

Yeah there will be some performance issue in the earlier versions hence the newer version of stock roms have been out by samsung. The best you can do is root and then use Mobile Odin Pro and flash the newer stock rom by selecting the option of ever root so that the newer stock rom you are flashing gets rooted in the process of flashing through mobile odin pro!
Cheers!

Thanks.
Got perfect answer. What about OTA udpates? Furthermore, will I face issues with Video camera and other functions on custom roms?

You might be able to get them. But the best bet will be to take the roms from here on xda as you will get to know whether the new one can be rooted or not. So you can then choose to update if you want root and the new rom cant be rootable so you can wait for the root to come and then flash it.
I am currently on custom rom rocket v 23 as seen in my signature. And i haven't faced any of such issues !
I will advise you to go custom as you get to have many options and features. Rest depends on you
Thx buddy. Will do rooting thingy tomorrow and let you know the results.

Thanks Abhi. @mR.fR34ky : I am thinking about doing the same thing. Using stock rom kernel which is already rooted. I don't want to hurt my note by using custom rom. I was reading custom rom thread and ppl are facing lots of problems with that. You have to use patches to fix that. I don't want to go through all this trouble.
Can you please provide me step by step information to root only stock kernel? Will I get OTA updates after this root? I am waiting for ICS. It's going to b awsm. Please check below link:

Hi,
I installed a custom kernel under the latest stock rom. Here is the guide:
http://touristinparadise.blogspot.com/2010/11/samsung-galaxy-s-how-to-install.html
this speedmod kernel looks promising. After installed the kernel you just have to install the super user from play store and titanium backup if you like..

I'm about to try chainfire's kernal and root my Note for the first time.
It seems pretty strait forward and looks like something that you might be interested in.

Hello lovely XDA users. Just wanted to ask a few questions about the Note. Im used to Nexus devices and the unlocking and rooting process is usually straight forward, reading up on the Note I got a bit confused lol. So how do you root it? I have read about the ICS leaks bricking phones so I will stick to GB for now, can anyone recommend a good GB ROM? Would like stock Android if possible. One more question, apart from rooting how do you get CWM Recovery on it? Thanks for your help people and I'm really looking forward to getting the Note.
There's a thread in the dev section with pre-rooted firmwares. You can flash any of these with PC Odin and you're rooted. I suggest you flash the European Open or UK version of XXLC1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
If you want to get CWM Recovery as well you need to flash the CF-Kernel for the version of the rom you flashed. So if you flashed XXLC1 you need the CF-Kernel for version LC1.
Scroll to the bottom of this post and download the file for the correct version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18978158&postcount=1
Extract that file, double click the alread-rooted.bat file and it will push all the necessary files to the Note. Once it's done your phone will reboot and you can use CWM Recovery (hold power+home+volume up untill Samsung logo pops up) to flash any rom you like.

Explained like a pro, Thank you very much. Any GB ROM you would recommend? Preferably with Stock Android although I'm guessing you can't use the S Pen apps? Might stick to Stock Touchwiz ROM although I hate it. Any kernel to recommend with a Stock ROM? Thanks for your help.
All the custom GB roms fully support the s-pen because they're all based on official Samsung firmwares, I'm not aware of any custom rom with stock Android UI at the moment. You can always use a custom launcher to at least get rid of TouchWiz. I'm using CheckRomHD V6 and installed NemusLauncher at the moment and I like it a lot. RocketRom V23 is a very nice rom as well though it's a bit of a hassle to flash as you first need to flash V22, do a wipe and then flash V23.
You can even combine custom roms and custom kernels. If you want to be able to overclock as well you can flash for example CheckRom and then flash the AbyssNote 4.2 or FM Kernel 2.0 in CWM Recovery. Or if you go for speed and good battery life you can flash SpeedMod Kernel 2-11.
Basically it's all up to you. Read the threads about the custom roms, choose a few with features you like and just try them for a while. Just keep in mind that there is a slight chance you end up in a boot loop (usually solved by doing a data/cache/Dalvik wipe in recovery) or soft-bricking and you have to start all over by flashing a pre-rooted kernel and CF-Root again, but this applies to any custom rom on any phone.
You said them firmwares are pre-rooted but on the thread it say's they are not directly rootable. ???

Does this mean that you want all the stuff that comes initially with your Note?
If yes, then CM9 probably is not the right thing for you. It is devoid of all the
Samsung crapware, plus you don't get native S-Pen Samsung support. This
means no SMemo and similar stuff; you have to use different apps from the
Market instead.
OTOH, if you want a lean, smooth and fast Rom, and are not afraid to do some
tinkering, then CM9 would be ideal for you.

1. CM9 is here.
2. No optional kernels for now, because it contains the only safe ICS kernel ATM
3. No OC either, but you won't be needing it - the kernel is very fast as it is. In
fact, I keep mine at 1.2Ghz. It feels just as quick, and it's somewhat easier on
the battery.
Ok, I flashed a stock GB ROM through odin and I have run the bat file and installed the CF kernel and CWM. How do I flash CM9 and where do I find Reloaded CM9? Thanks you lovely people

Greetings!
In my restless and dull life I've decided to play with fire and try to flash official ICS onto my Galaxy Note. Now I'm more or less a complete noob at this. I've been lurking and reading threads here for months. But I haven't tried anything out yet.
I found Dr.Ketans guide for mobile odin.
( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25916135&postcount=1840 ) . But I am not rooted, and I don't have any interest in root at the moment. My main question is this:
I downloaded the rom in that post. and extracted it to a tar.md5 file. Does this include a kernel? Or do I have to download the CF kernel or the stock kernel from some other source and flash that as well?
Yes, I already know about the hard brick issue. If that happens, at least you will have another proof that the bug exists

Yeah the tar.md5 file includes the kernel. CF kernel is for getting root and CWM recovery.
Take the plunge mate. But i would rather suggest you to go for CM9 as thats the best and safest ICS experience. Because Samsuck has done nothing wonderous in the official ICS!! Rest your choice mate!!
P.S - since you are not rooted so you cant use mobile odin and hence you are left with PC odin.
Cheers!

Thanks alot for the swift reply! I'll certainly check into CM9 before flashing. Just to make it 100% certain though. I place the tar.md5 file in pda while using Pc Odin and keep kernel and csc empty and flash counter won't be increased?

Hello there XDA.
First I would like to apologize if this has already been answered. I searched for the past 3 hours but did not find anything that would fully answer my questions.
So I have a Samsung GT-N7000 Galaxy Note running the stock 4.1.2 LT4 ROM (rooted). The device is unbranded and bought from Germany. Because it lags horribly everywhere, I want to get ICS and the old TouchWiz back, so I decided to downgrade to the latest ICS ROM that has TouchWiz 4, and, after searching, I found that it is N7000XXLRK.
These are my questions:
- what do I have to do to fully wipe the phone before I downgrade to N7000XXLRK, therefore completely removing any traces of older ROMs, in order to do a clean install? Do I have to use some option in PC Odin? Maybe wipe some partitions in Recovery (I have installed PhilZ CWM for LT4)? Cache, data, system, or maybe some others, too?
- what partitions are safe to wipe from CWM and what are not?
- what else should I do to ensure that the new ROM works properly?
- is there anything that needs to be backup-ed, aside from apps (I use TitaniumBackup for that) and all files on the sdcard and external_sd partitions?
I mention that before LT4 I had all Stock 2.3 ROMs, all Stock ICS ROMs 2 AllianceROMs and 3 leaked Jelly Bean ROMs.
Thanks in advance.
See friend... this is Easy, I think as you are on xxlt4 u must be running philz, c.o.h or speedmod//??.. if yes, boot to recovery and go to mount and storage option and then format everything... after that.. go to the bootloader, VOLdown+home+Power.. and then directly flash your ICS ROM, this would be a perfect clean install!!!
hit- THanks please

Hello NoteboyTech.
All right. Thanks for the answer. I will try it. Yes, I am on official XXLT4 with PhilZ CWM, but no custom kernel.
P.S. Have you or anybody else tested this before? I may be a little paranoid but I am afraid not to brick my device, as I have read that some users were unable to use the phone function after formatting /efs or /boot in CWM.

Dear all XDA Developers
i have samsung galaxy note n7000, after we got the official JB update the device went to be so slow, so i choosed to downgrade it to ICS and i download the sogtware image from (www.samsung-updates.com) as i told it should be official software images.
and i downloaded the ODIN v3.09 for pc, connect the phone and install, it fiinished successfully, AFTER that i start to got the error, the phone shutdown suddenley and got the screen said "RST_STAT 0x2000000 User Fault, not kernel panic, upload mode"
i tried to install again and still have the same error the it is random no specific time, then i download and install the Philz and wipe the phone as for install a new ROM and install the same image then got the same error after two days.
my request is how to solve this problem and where to download an official ICS for my GT-N7000
i hope to find the solution here in XDA developers
best regards
No one can help??!!!!
Is this issue so difficult and there is no solution or any idea about solving it??
It depends on how you choose. Going your path back to official ics could be problematic. So i would just go forward install a custom jb rom such as Aryamod then the problem is solved and u will have a beautiful and fast rom. Done.

1stly, After getting JB update from OTA, it's recommended to do a factory wipe in stock recovery (This is what Samsung CS told me). I tried and it works (at the expense of having all my data n apps gone).
2nd, Like @forest1971 says, there's many good custom Roms And you can choose per your liking. I strongly oppose going back to ICS as of the brick bug threat. If you really want to downgrade, might as well go for GB.
3rd, WHAT is the point of our good Dev's spending their precious time and cracking their heads to come up with a custom rom IF they are not BETTER than Stock roms?

Installing through odin is the best method for flashing stock rom. You have done it right. Just remember NEVER to do a factory reset anywhere with ICS. Not even in recovery

I see there is so called stock roms with boat ware removed but most seem to have lots of other changes are they really stable as in exactly like stock? I am also not sure how I know which one was my phones original stock. I bought it on eBay and it's had various roms flashed. So ideally I would like to have it unrooted and just the bloatware removed but maybe that's not possible so rooted and no bloatware would be ok. Thanks

Most of the stock roms in the development section are quite stable and all the info about removed bloatware is also stated in the threads of those roms.
You can find your original stock rom at http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ or http://live.samsung-updates.com/index.php?device=GT-I9305, according to your country and carrier (the country where you live is your official firmware, doesnt matter that you have bought it from ebay and what firmware it had on it before). After you download the firmware flash it with odin, but be warned about KNOX bootloader on 4.3 official firmwares! If youre not knoxed yet, you can update to 4.3 stock rom without getting the knox bootloader with this Rom.
If you prefer your own official firmware, you need to remove the bloatware by yourself using a file manager with root acces. Be careful with what you delete if you gonna do so! always READ EVERYTHING carefully and do lots of RESEARCH :good:

Yes thanks unfortunately I do have the Knox warranty void 1 message swerev a2 think it says as well I thought it might mean I'm in trouble. I hear you can't reset it so I can't go to any official firmwares now?
I really need stability I thought cm 10.1 would be stable but there's lots of crashes... by pretty stable you mean cm 10.1 pretty stable type thing for the boat ware removed roms? Want to find something near or as good as official...thanks.
EDIT: OK so hmm getting some mixed messages reading about it all but basically I went from 4.3 stock to cm11 then to carbon rom and finally to cm 10.1.3 so I think I can go back to stock 4.3 using any uk based stock from Sammobile? Not sure which would be best yet but I am with three so I might do the h3g one. Or possibly a rom with bloat removed 4.3 or above... Guess the warranty is gone now...and hopefully I'll be ok for any upgrades in the future...

I see your rom looks pretty good...is it super stable? So because I went to cm10.1.3 does that mean I can't go back to 4.3 based roms or only official? Thanks

What rom do you mean exactly?, I dont have a rom that i made myself yet..
you can go any time you want back to 4.3, custom or official doesnt matter both is possibble, just be rooted and have the latest philz recovery installed or any other recovery.

I meant the one in your Sig . I might try that then maybe end up on stock. One thing was I was hoping to be able to unroot it on stock as I have a banking app that won't run on rooted devices .

Oh you mean the sites of those official firmwares or the recoverys :good:
I actually have no idea how to unroot it except for flashing official firmware 4.3 with odin, but the bloatware wil still be there unfortunately unless you find another way to do this
Can't boot into recovery mode or anything on mtk 6575 device
My Tecno D5 which has an Mtk 6575 chipset
got bricked after installing a font app and I
decided to use mtk droid tool to flash an
automade cwm recovery on it while its still
bricked. To cut the story short, after the whole
process of using another similar devices boot.img
and recovery.img to flash the automade recovery
on my device, my phone won't even get to
stock recovery(all I get is just a blank white
page after the normal logo at boot) .It also gives
me this when I try booting up.... Pls!!! a swift
reply wouls be appreciated as I'm just a learner
at this.

Ok thanks and I meant this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development-i9305/rom-amcha-rom-v5-00-simply-customizable-t2619670
Looks like a Rom. But does look a little more complex than usual ! I might try that first. But as long as it won't brick my device I might have to flash a stock and unroot depends on many things. Thanks.

personally i find amcha rom to be the most stable between the other 4.3 roms, using it almost 2 months and no fc's, freezes, random reboots etc. so far! :fingers-crossed:

Sounds good but I usually avoid new updates at first I prefer stability to a certain extent so you can't just update it? You have to do a fresh install? Anyway I'm on it now and it is very stable compared with the other roms I've used - very nice. Not sure if I did all the options correctly but I'll have to test...Still getting weird white patches on this xda form web pages in chrome...had this with every Rom I tried...not quiet so bad with this Rom but still there...strange only happens with this Web site too?!
