Hi, I recently updated to ZV8 and when I try to install CWM Recovery using MTs way :
After gaining root on ZV8 you can get CWM recovery by running this ZV8CWMRecovery.bat.
After my phone is plugged in as internet mode and I open up the .bat file. I restart and I still dont have the recovery option. How do I go through this process?
Also, It seems like my Swype is broken. Everytime I bring up the keypad to Swype it hides right away and I end up using the default LG Keyboard.

Clear the data in the application. it fixed mine
you can just run the important bit from terminal emulator.
I copied cwmrecovery.img to data/local/temp then ran
dd if=/data/local/tmp/cwmrecovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 bs=4096
followed by
rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
rm /system/recovery-from-boot.p
rm /data/local.prop

They recovery option wont be there because you are still running the stock zv8 rom. Use rom manager to gain access to it or shut of the phone and hold down the power and volume down buttons. If you flash the new Broken out Revo it will display the recovery option.

boot phone into recovery mode through bat file, flash the broken out rom then the option will be there

If your reset put you back to stock zv8 (check settings> about phone) then you will not be able to root/cwm.
You'll have to push the zv7 tot, root with zv7 aio, run bat in "easiest" thread, ota to zv8, run bat again for recovery.
Lots of steps but not terrible. All instruction is available in development. I'd post links but I'm on my phone and have been awake going on 24hrs now. I reserve the right to be slightly lazy. Ha

Thank you for your guidance. I will post here again if I get stuck along the way! Thanks everyone so far!
EDIT: I have no clue what I am doing. Do you mind helping me?
Can't install CWM
I was in the process of doing you V7 -> v8 Root and got stuck on the CWM install as well. I believe I have the right drivers installed since I can access my SD cards from my comp. I am in internet and Debug mode on the phone. When I run the batch it just permanently stalls on "Daemon started Successfully."
I know the Batch installer for the kindle fire has a function to let you know if it see the device. That would be useful in this case if there is a way to do that.Anyone have any ideas where I am gong wrong?
I have no clue what I am doing now. Anyone mind helping me .
After I run the .bat using option 1 : http://i44.tinypic.com/359k66g.jpg
After I run the .bat using option 2 : I get a black screen when it reboots. Front button lights are on also!
This is using mt's ZV8CWMRecovery.bat

I've seen the threads about rooting without unlocking, but I have a more specific question.
Could I root and flash to 2.2 without unlocking while reserving the option to flash back to completely stock including stock recovery and not touching boot loader back to 2.1 update 1.
I am asking specifically for epe54b on att. I've seen most threads were targeted for t mobile versions of n1.
Thanks for your help and pointing me in the right direction.

why don't you first try to see if adb can see you device in recovery first? 'cos i cannot
seems like that is the showstopper for me
So I tried what you suggested and I was unable to get into recovery, here are the steps I performed:
Step 0:
- Install the SDK
- Make sure there is no "update.zip" in SD card
- Connect your phone with the USB
- Extract all files I provided to your <SDK>/tools
Step 1:
Enable Debugging in Setting->Development
Then, shut down your phone
Step 2:
Booting into bootloader by holding vol- and press Power
Use vol- button to highlight "Recovery"
Step 3:
Open CMD, and cd to the <SDK>/tools
Run "loop"
Step 4:
Press Power to enter Recovery now, you will see the triangle and <!>
Hold Power and vol+ to show the menu
Step 4a:
If your CMD shows you the devices is in recovery, press control + c to stop the "loop"
Step 4b:
If there is nothing, reboot your phone and repeat step 2-4 until it shows up.
(This is 99% caused by the sd card, faster card make it easier to show up)

So is that it or should I try something else? Maybe a different SD card?

EDIT: you mean you cannot get into recovery or you cannot get adb to see your phone?
Problem was with adb seeing the phone. N1 went into recovery fine
Edit: I am able to see the device when it is powered on normally, but when I boot to recovery the device does not show up - SD card removed, driver set to sdk driver..

I heard it will be FRF85B for us EPE54B users. Hope root without unlock will still be possible. Google sucks in differentiating software builds for the same hardware (except for the radio!)...
running rod's miui rom and was trying to remove excess crap via titanium pro. when trying to remove facebook it would reboot and give an error message about signature failure. so i thought i'd see if it would successfully remove a different app. rod included a fancy widget app that i had no desire for. when trying to remove that, it did a number on my n1. i cannot get into the recovery mode or anything.
this is a video of what the phone now does. no matter if i pull the battery or what.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6a4DP3IjZiQ
That's an interesting one.
When you turn it on - this is the first thing you see? No "X" at all?
Did you try ADB to see if it sees the device?
Looks just like radio flash, but with radio flash there are no recovery messages, if I remember correctly.
no, i get the un-animated X, and then it goes straight to this. regardless if i hold down the trackball or not.
what do i need to do to try to adb to it? i don't fool with adb ever, just when i first rooted/unlocked it.

i took enoms rom, renamed it update.zip and placed it on the sdcard. still nothing, same thing.
if i press the powerbutton whilst on the android out of the box thing it says.
"ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.0
Finding Update Package........
Opening Update Package.......
Verifying Update Package......
Installing Update....."
this is shown in the video, but blurry and hard to read.
well, if im doing things right..... adb remount said it successfully did so.
(edit) ok, i can definitely connect via adb, i just ran the reboot bootloader command and the phone rebooted..... albeit back to that stupid looping screen.
any other ideas folks...... i'm up against a wall here.
i am able to get this in terminal
[email protected]:~/Android/tools$ ./adb devices

well, i cant get to the recovery screen to initiate fastboot. if i use adb reboot-recovery it just reboots the phone and goes back to the looping crap i'm stuck at.
if i try any fastboot commands, i get nothing. i just can't get it to do anything other than respond to adb commands.

I was hoping Jack or Rusty would be here to check my logic...
Here's what we believe so far:
1 - phone appears to be in recovery, and trying to install an update.
2 - phone is in recovery, so adb is (kinda) working.
3 - there's no update.zip on the SD card.
4 - trying to overwrite the recovery via adb gives a "device or resource busy" response...
My guess is that if the install process can be killed, then you should be able to re-gain control?
...I've no idea how to kill processes via adb... :-(

Woooooo HOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'm not entirely sure what i did......... but i think i have it. i transfered amon's 1.7.0 img to the sdcard and aptly renamed it recovery.img. after just now trying to restart to see if i could get fastboot to do anything it must have found the recovery.img and reflash amon. i'm looking at amons recovery now as i type.
i just rebooted and now i'm back into rods miui...... phone is working fine.

rm -rf /system/app/nameofapp.apk
once the apps are deleted:
(on the phone)
go to settings--> manage applications
and delete any leftover files pertaining to the programs you just deleted
Reboot
Then reboot and make a backup
*EDIT*
You may need to reboot after removing the programs for those file to show up in Manage Applicaions
Just as a posted on another thread, now my phone is running android1.1, after i turned the screen off, i can no longer wake it up by pressing any button or sliding keyboard, but the keyboard light can be lighted...
What do you mean by "turned the screen off" turned the phone like completely off or just put it to sleep? If you flashed, then check to see if your radio/spl matches up to the roms requirements. If not, then thats the reason. If you just put it to sleep, try factory resetting your phone via holding power+home to get into recovery, then alt+w

It could be the rom youre using. Try updating to the latest radio/spl and downloading frosense or any of the cm7 roms. I dont think its the lcd. If it turns on at all, then the lcd's not the problem. Thats what im thinking because i dropped my phone in water before, the lcd was damaged. SCreen wouldnt even turn on, but i could hear everything. So yea. .

Well, the problem is updating recovery, i have tried many times, but after i flashed the recovery using fastboot or flash_image, the recovery mode cannot be displayed normally, only the last line" Build: 1.7.XX" can be seen, there's no items above. So i've no idea how to flash roms. Can i flash roms in the fastboot mode?
Are you rooted? If you are, then i have a solution for you.
Assuming you have root- Download ROM manager from the android market (the free version) and open it. It'll ask for superuser permissions. Click allow. then click flash clockworkmod recovery. Then itll give you a list of htc dream or magic. Click the dream and let it download. After it finishes, itll say "clockworkmod download complete" or something like that. Then theres another option on the app that says "reboot into recovery" click that, and flash the recovery you want. I recommend that you just use cwm recovery as i am using it on my g1. .
If you dont have root, then.... I have no idea. Sorry. And no you cant flash via fastboot.

my phone is rooted, but the Rom manager have to be force closed once i run it, i have tried different versions of Rom manager and different roms.
I have flashed clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.7 via fastboot, but it didnt show anything when i enter recovery then.
Now I dont think i can flash Roms via recovery, so i prepare to do so via fastboot, i'm learning how to make *.zip packages for fastboot, its different from packages for recovery as i learned.

easy fastboot is just that; an easy way to use fastboot for the novice. also try droid explorer, a very simple to use program that may help you download what you need. both are free and easy to find links to - just google search or search these forums.

I need help, my phone is stuck on the LG screen at boot, when I reboot to attempt getting into CWM i get the screen that says "are you sure you want to do a factory reset...." When I do so and factory wipe it goes back to the LG boot screen and doesn't go into Clockwork Recovery. Tried many times but no luck. I also tried connecting it to my pc and getting the LGNPST program but it doesn't see or recognize my phone as there is no way for me to connect it to USB Mass Storage.
Could I have really bricked my phone? I have screwed it up before but always able to get into CWM and turn on USB Mass storage, now I cant even do that. Any Help Please!!!
OOPS sorry i somehow posted this twice!!!
Would help if you posted what you've done to the phone. Since you only said what the problem is not what you did to it.
Hey thanks for replying. Ok here it is. I downloaded Rom Manager from the market that I bought previously for an HTC i had and from there somehow flashed a ROM and the rest is history. Stuck on LG
I downloaded ROM Manger since I got rid of it awhile ago since it didn't work and I have no idea how you could of flashed a rom through it since it'll just say you have to have clockworkmod on your phone unless you picked a different model like the esteem which is this phone but different model which would probably mess up the phone. But after you flashed the rom did anything else happen? Like did the phone work or just reboot and stay at Lg logo?
You know it was late last night and you just reminded me that I did use the Esteem ROM, and after that all it did was rebooted and stayed at the LG Screen, And whenever I try to get into recovery all it does is verify if i want to reset to factory and wipe data, then back to LG. I cant get any of my computers to recognize it on either XP or Win7...Im sorry I didnt say that my phone was rooted and running GingerVOlt1.3 with bk over clock kernel as well
Hmm try the Irc channel see if the people there have answers. http://webchat.freenode.net/ Channel: #lgrevolution

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately this does not work either. I have tried holding the power button and volume down button several times all it does is take me to the factory wipe screen and after confirming just reboots back to the LG screen and stays there. Alright, emergency mode is:
1) Pull battery
2) Put battery back in

Mt,
Want to say thanks for all the work you've done and continue to do with the Revo. Its the only saving grace we have. Maybe you could help me out with this. I am stuck on the LGNPST when I put my phone in Download mode, LGNPST see's it as an "unknown" and only allows me to do a Phonebook Programing under the Emergency Tab, but when I choose the only Bin File and Only *csv. file it displays as error and stops. Im not sure as to what it wants me to do or what its trying to do. In the past I was able to just flash the VS910Ztot and be all done but now I cant even get that option. Do you have any Idea what I need to do??? Please any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I had a similar issue with this and the download mode and everything except I was able to get into recovery but it would reboot to fast to restore a full nand backup and I couldn't get the .dll to work either what I ended up doing and it fixed it was booting into recovery going into backups and restore then advanced restore and had enough time in recovery to restore just the boot so I did that next thing I knew the phone rebooted automagically like it had been doing but this time it went past the lg and into the gingervolt boot animation then I got a black screen so I manually booted into recovery did the same steps except this time I was able to advanced restore the system and it rebooted again when it booted up I had a black screen so I boot back into recovery and was finally able to restore a full back up never got an auto reboot so I booted up and the phone worked fine.

Was anybody able to root ICS?? I tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905116
but that didn't work whatsoever and then I tried this other one that was suppose to easier but it really messed up the phone to the point that ICS wouldn't boot up past the LG logo...... I thought I had to restore allllllllllll the way back to froyo but that didn't work whenever I tried to reinstall ICS yes it would say that it install but when the phone reboot froyo still booted up..... then i just did a system restore back a couple of day and I was able to get ICS back up and running network and all. But this time im not going to root it till I can understand it (in full detail lol) because im not trying to go through that ordeal again..... it took way too long to get back to ICS any help would be great, thanks in advance!!
hahaha that was funny to read man glad u got ur cell back to normal and i did rooted as xbsall said its easy u just need to download the root he provided
what you need to do is set the phone in charging mode with debug on (u need to be unpluged from pc to set that on) then:
run the batch and press 2 then press 1
when it says restore something to cell just hit restore on ur cell and press enter on cmd window and repeat untill cell Reboots
when phone shuts down unplug the usb cable and wait for it to fully boot and plug back in
write what the batch tells u to write in phones terminal (tho it did nothing to me)
press enter on cmd and repeat the unplugging USB whenever phone restarts after u batch says ur done well u actually are not.
now u open the root batch again and press 1 and restore on phone when it asks
after that be aware of the unplugin whenever phone restarts and this time when its done it is done. u should have SuperSU terminal and playstore in ur icons and working root

I know that I didn't do it right (its has to be insanely easy) but again this is a different method of rooting that I'm not use to. With exact steps on how to do it? I'm just a noob with a froyo restored phone lol

im guessing you are doing something wrong... that happened to me the 1st time i rooted but then i reflashed the .bin and rerooted
and when i finished the process i noticed that i still had playstore. anyway u can also try flashing gapps for ics from a recovery just read that someone found a way to get a recovery working.
but u can also try rerooting from 0
also i had problems rooting since my touchscreen acts weird when its set on debug mode and connected to the pc and when i was about to hit the restore buttom it acted weird some times and i had to restart phone because the restore screen frozzed.
but well when u start rooting you need to restore 2 times when each restore finishes u press enter as the batch tells you
after that the cell restarts you unplug the phone from usb cable wait till it fully boots (its better if you wait for SD to be scanned) and plug usb cable back in
u will need to write some stuffs on the mobile terminal (a blue screen that will be open when u unlock) even tho they did not work for me
but do em anyway... when u finish typing that on phone and pressing enter (on phone) after each line u press enter on phone wait for it to reboot and unplug again when its off
plug back in when OS fully loaded and wait for process to end...
now u open the root batch again press 1 u will need to restore again on phone and wait for it to shut down u know what to do when it shuts down... and well after a few reboots more you are done
hope i helped

could you link me to that please?
EDIT: Got it rooted with SU and Play Store!
Delete phonesky files..or rename with .old at the end. Then place new phonsky set permisions rw.r..r.. and do a factory reset..that is what finally worked for me..
You can get deodexed phonesky from the rom thread i believe. I used that file and got rid of both phonesky apk and odex.
Hope that works for you.

I had to turn my USB debugging on, turn my phone on charge only and reboot then ADB connected. Nice quick root btw.
