Help rooting ICS - LG Thrill 4G

Was anybody able to root ICS?? I tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905116
but that didn't work whatsoever and then I tried this other one that was suppose to easier but it really messed up the phone to the point that ICS wouldn't boot up past the LG logo...... I thought I had to restore allllllllllll the way back to froyo but that didn't work whenever I tried to reinstall ICS yes it would say that it install but when the phone reboot froyo still booted up..... then i just did a system restore back a couple of day and I was able to get ICS back up and running network and all. But this time im not going to root it till I can understand it (in full detail lol) because im not trying to go through that ordeal again..... it took way too long to get back to ICS any help would be great, thanks in advance!!

hahaha that was funny to read man glad u got ur cell back to normal and i did rooted as xbsall said its easy u just need to download the root he provided
what you need to do is set the phone in charging mode with debug on (u need to be unpluged from pc to set that on) then:
run the batch and press 2 then press 1
when it says restore something to cell just hit restore on ur cell and press enter on cmd window and repeat untill cell Reboots
when phone shuts down unplug the usb cable and wait for it to fully boot and plug back in
write what the batch tells u to write in phones terminal (tho it did nothing to me)
press enter on cmd and repeat the unplugging USB whenever phone restarts after u batch says ur done well u actually are not.
now u open the root batch again and press 1 and restore on phone when it asks
after that be aware of the unplugin whenever phone restarts and this time when its done it is done. u should have SuperSU terminal and playstore in ur icons and working root

(sketch puts up a cross and back away fast) lol that was the method that made me had to restore my phone to froyo!! Lol
I know that I didn't do it right (its has to be insanely easy) but again this is a different method of rooting that I'm not use to. With exact steps on how to do it? I'm just a noob with a froyo restored phone lol

im guessing you are doing something wrong... that happened to me the 1st time i rooted but then i reflashed the .bin and rerooted
and when i finished the process i noticed that i still had playstore. anyway u can also try flashing gapps for ics from a recovery just read that someone found a way to get a recovery working.
but u can also try rerooting from 0
also i had problems rooting since my touchscreen acts weird when its set on debug mode and connected to the pc and when i was about to hit the restore buttom it acted weird some times and i had to restart phone because the restore screen frozzed.
but well when u start rooting you need to restore 2 times when each restore finishes u press enter as the batch tells you
after that the cell restarts you unplug the phone from usb cable wait till it fully boots (its better if you wait for SD to be scanned) and plug usb cable back in
u will need to write some stuffs on the mobile terminal (a blue screen that will be open when u unlock) even tho they did not work for me
but do em anyway... when u finish typing that on phone and pressing enter (on phone) after each line u press enter on phone wait for it to reboot and unplug again when its off
plug back in when OS fully loaded and wait for process to end...
now u open the root batch again press 1 u will need to restore again on phone and wait for it to shut down u know what to do when it shuts down... and well after a few reboots more you are done
hope i helped

EDIT: Got it rooted with SU and Play Store!

Delete phonesky files..or rename with .old at the end. Then place new phonsky set permisions rw.r..r.. and do a factory reset..that is what finally worked for me..
You can get deodexed phonesky from the rom thread i believe. I used that file and got rid of both phonesky apk and odex.
Hope that works for you.

Bootloader button combos does nothing.

Been trying to do this for two days straight now and I'm going bananas...
Got a GT540 with stock 2.1, now rooted with z4.
Gone thru a shipload of tutorials on how to flash a ROM onto this, downloaded lots of files to make winxp behave and find the drivers.
Somehow these tutorials miss something and I just float in space...
I can't get the phone into bootloader mode to even start the process.
- Camerabutton (all the way down) + Power does only normal boot.
- Camerabutton (all the way down) + USB cable insertion does normal boot.
(it's not even possible to have it to stay shut when USB is connected to PC, it restarts immediately)
- Home + Power does a boot in safe mode.
- VolDown + Power does a Download mode.
Please help me get past this step.
My aim is to get CM7 on it.
you need to install a fastboot rom to install clockwork and cm7
Sent from my GT540 using XDA Premium App
You could try this (but I think you need plenty of ram free):
1) install Terminal Emulator app from Market.
2) Copy the img file for Clockworkmod Recovery to the root of your sdcard and call it "recovery.img".
3) run Terminal Emulator and type in "su" and press enter. It will request SuperUser rights - accept this.
4) next type in "flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img" and press enter
5) reboot into recovery (hold camera + press power)
6) back up your phone
It will either work or it won't but if it does you'll have recovery and from there you should be able to install a recovery image of CM7... But I've never tested it But you would have your backup if it didn't work...
Sorry it's speculative - others might have more experience.

When entering this world as a newbie, there are -so- many details folks take for granted that I simply don't understand.
What's the difference between a fastboot rom and a flashed rom?
What and why clockwork?
The russian fastboot image found here does it come in any other language as v2.00?
@fishears: I'll try that if I don't run into lack of memory, as you pointed out.

Nope, didn't work, not even after low-level formatting.
But I had a spare SD-card, put it in and it worked right away. Seems like cm7 not accepting every sdcard-brand.
I do not know what the brands are, None are known, and no logos.

[Q] [H] CWM Help Please!

Hi, I recently updated to ZV8 and when I try to install CWM Recovery using MTs way :
After gaining root on ZV8 you can get CWM recovery by running this ZV8CWMRecovery.bat.
After my phone is plugged in as internet mode and I open up the .bat file. I restart and I still dont have the recovery option. How do I go through this process?
Also, It seems like my Swype is broken. Everytime I bring up the keypad to Swype it hides right away and I end up using the default LG Keyboard.

Clear the data in the application. it fixed mine
you can just run the important bit from terminal emulator.
I copied cwmrecovery.img to data/local/temp then ran
dd if=/data/local/tmp/cwmrecovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 bs=4096
followed by
rm /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
rm /system/recovery-from-boot.p
rm /data/local.prop

They recovery option wont be there because you are still running the stock zv8 rom. Use rom manager to gain access to it or shut of the phone and hold down the power and volume down buttons. If you flash the new Broken out Revo it will display the recovery option.

If your reset put you back to stock zv8 (check settings> about phone) then you will not be able to root/cwm.
You'll have to push the zv7 tot, root with zv7 aio, run bat in "easiest" thread, ota to zv8, run bat again for recovery.
Lots of steps but not terrible. All instruction is available in development. I'd post links but I'm on my phone and have been awake going on 24hrs now. I reserve the right to be slightly lazy. Ha

I was in the process of doing you V7 -> v8 Root and got stuck on the CWM install as well. I believe I have the right drivers installed since I can access my SD cards from my comp. I am in internet and Debug mode on the phone. When I run the batch it just permanently stalls on "Daemon started Successfully."
I know the Batch installer for the kindle fire has a function to let you know if it see the device. That would be useful in this case if there is a way to do that.Anyone have any ideas where I am gong wrong?

I would suggest, try to push a launcher app by adb if you have it installed on your pc.
run adb (in cmd)
adb remount
adb push name_of_you_launcher.apk /system/app/
As it looks like you´re not that expert, flash a new ROM by using ODIN.
What you need:
-Original USB-cable from your device
-A ROM as OnePackage
-*.ops file (e.g. AriesVe.ops for the I9001)
-Odin (use with admin rights)
-Kies drivers (remember to kill all Kies processes in task manager)
Start Odin with admin rights;
Press volume down+home button+power on your device at the same time, hold for at least 2 seconds;
Connect your phone to usb cable, should be recognized by Odin now);
Select your *.ops file;
Set hook at OnePackage;
Select downloaded package (unzip if its zipped, should be *.tar.md5);
Start flashing;

No, only running phone with data connection or wifi needed.
On PlayStore (via PC) you have an "install" button for all apps compatible with your device. Push it for a launcher app (still on your PC), confirm the dialog (still on your PC) and wait a some time (don't know if you still can see the download notification icons on your phone).
The app you want to install will be downloaded to your phone automatically. Don't know if this works without a launcher installed but before reflashing you could just try.
Wait a while, then try to press the home button to get the choose-launcher dialog.
ADB is as mentioned another way to easily install apps via e.g. USB connection but you have to have the needed tools installed (PC).

After uninstal app, cel only reboot

Hi guys, i installed the cleaner master app, my xperia sp is rooted ( i think so ) by kingo, i cleaned some cache, whatsapp files, everything ok, but i tried to uninstal a pre installed app, social life... my phone reboot and keep rebooting, it turns on, stay like 30 seconds and reboot again.
what can i do ?
Sorry for the english, im from Brazil, thank you guys
I would try to reflash stock ROM. I have no idea how fix this otherwise.
You can use flashtool or sony pc companion to restore your device. There are many guides here on XDA
Yes, flash stock ROM is a good idea. If it don't works, maybe try to let it boot as long as it goes (maybe go into recovery, because there the screen is brighter) and try to restart after charging. If that doesn't work too try to make a flashable zip and flash it. If you don't know how to do so go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297614

The problem is that I can not connect the phone so I cannot flash the KDZ, do you have a good tutorial how I can flash it?
Have you already got CWM installed on your phone? If you have you need to do power on and volume up, not volume down so put a ROM on the SD card first, full wipe and flash a new ROM and gapps.. If that doesn't work then you need to try get adb access, and run commands such as adb reboot recovery etc, otherwise you need to reflash the .kdz of stock, if you search you'll find it!

@bionicsquirell It is volume DOWN + Power button don't spread misinfos.
@memo357 did you try holding Volume down while plugging into the PC? See if it will light up and show new devices on PC, then start searching here and you'll figure it out. If nothing happens, you're in too deep I'm afraid..

Volume UP still works to boot to recovery, just tried it now, its not misinfo ^.^
If your bootlooping maybe you could use adb to reboot to recovery!
I had this problem. I had to flash the stock boot loader on. Google search should have an lg exe for it. And instructions. I found it pretty easy and once back it should work. You will have to root again and just make sure you unlock your bootloader before applying a custom recover. The exe is called LG mobile support tool, the exe to restore the bootloader.
