I have had about enough of CyanogenMod. Been using it since 5, and every single version has had significant usability problems. Currently in 7.0.3 photos are bad, GPS is non-functional, it forgets settings like keyboard, and when I first answer the phone no one can hear me.
Terrible. There has got to be something better. If not I'm going to stock.
You can use MIUI ROM
Enomther's
It's not gingerbread but is by far the most stable and the fastest.
There's many ROM on this forum, you are free to use which ever make you happy.
CM7 has been great for me since the first nightly.
Autinhyeu seriously? Like RoDrIgUeZsTyLe, or straight MIUI?
Are most functions stable?
baseballfanz I'm glad you've had such luck. Many of us haven't. I'm looking for feedback of others' experiences on which ROMs seem to work the best. I already know which one I'm not using anymore.

I'd never be able to go stock after i used CM for the first time . It might have some flaws but its the best there is & has no alternative .

Yes, MIUIMOD from Rod
i had use MIUI Stock 4 months ago, then i use CM 7 nightly build, and now, i comeback MIUI with MIUIMOD ROM, after a week use, with some tutorial, i think its best for my phone at the moment, hehe... some user dont want use MIUI, because it like as iOS but i dont care, it gives me comfort & i use it...
With MIUIMOD, you will have more than free Internal memory and RAM memory...
anyway, i saw dont more difference between the CM7 and MIUI, you can choice
With CM all I had to do was wipe and use Amon Ra to flash zip.
There are no instructions with RoDrIgUeZsTyLe except "MIUIMOD D2SD HowTo", which only seems to do with partitioning. Do partitions actually need to be changed, and if so why?
How to apply the ROM and why aren't there instructions?
Also he says, " (Please Read the D2SD HowTo)", but there's no link and a search doesn't turn it up.
MIUI is pretty good
Which one? I've found four so far, including one that seems to have Chinese buttons.

You should definitely go for QND MIUI
Used it from the beginning and I'm loving it. It's stock MIUI with XJ's multilanguage pack, so it's just like MIUI is supposed to be. No junk or ugly themes added
I also get the delayed connection when I answer calls but besides that CM7 is the best there is.Some debate MIUI is better but its a matter of the individuals likes/dislikes. Also the themes and control of customization on CM7 IMO by far surpasses any other rom out there currently so you should prolly stick w/ CM. Hopefully the next stable release fixes the bugs your speaking of
Mouse I've been patient with CM since version 5, and I am fed up.
The good news is I am really digging this MIUIMod. Seems much more modern, smooth, and usable than CM. Have just now gotten things set up so it remains to be seen how well things work, but the camera is sure better and that's a biggie for me.
Takes forever to boot (no big deal) and I am missing my Galaxy wallpaper, but I am:

flash away then and see what one you like the best thats what its all about...i would just use stock miui from either here or miui-dev if you are that finicky about roms
I just have so much to set up that it takes about a day. This is one thing that was so irritating abut CM; in order to correct atrocious usability bugs I'd have to completely reinstall each month and start all over again. I started with Rodriguez today and that's fine so far except for the lack of Galaxy wallpaper. Still have alot to learn about MIUI. Lucky it's Saturday...
You could always to CM6.x if you like CM's features.

So much has been fixed and improved in the latest cyan nightlies over 7.0.3 that you prob should try that out first.
Have you given any of eVilD's sense roms? NXSense and NXSense HD have been working pretty well for me, although nobody can beat MIUI battery life and cuatomuzability
Haven't checked out the Sense ROMs.
MIUI is very nice so far. Desktops rotate like a cube and other nice effects. It's like a 21st century iPhone except without the restrictions, not a 20th century Windows-like CM phone. And I've found the Galaxy wallpaper in the market. My desktops are games|multimedia|default|appts/calendar|utilities. There is no launcher place where all the apps are; all apps are on desktops, but you can put apps inside a folder app which is very handy. Those apps I use are on desktops, those I rarely use are in Apps, Utilities, Multimedia, and Unused folders. No more screenshot app needed; it's Menu:VolDown now.
GPS still has problems, and still some things I haven't figured out. I need to put contacts into folders in the contacts app. With CM I'd put them into one contact and change the label to Custom with their name in it. That is only simulating folders though. Wish there were a better way or an app that could handle folders. Edit: Hey, Contacts has something called Groups, which just may be the ticket! Experimenting.
Does anyone know why DroidWall is no longer in the Market? That is my most valued app to keep out G**gle's prying eyes.
Hi,
is it possible to port the Orginal Galaxy-S Phone (with left-slide to call, right-slide to message on contact and other nice things) to the cyanogenmod. I love the mod, but the phone from CM isn´t cool

To find a similar app on the market is your only option.
Samsung Apps are dependent on Samsung's framework, which obviously is only on Samsung ROMs. CM7 is built upon Nexus S source code, so Samsung apps are incompatible.
I dont think a app from market will have all these features like the orginal. I want to know what to do for porting this to CM. Like what .apks i have to put from stockrom to CM. I know thats Samsung-made, but i belive in XDA-Devs and hope to find a way =))
It'd still require Samsung firmware which the devs won't port cause CM7 is an AOSP rom. There are alot of alternatives so you're better off on the market (or sticking with stock)

This is correct. Realistically, it's not going to happen—ever. You could always use a Samsung-based custom ROM though.
I'm posting in general forums because I need to have everyone in on this.
Eventually, when ICS with bloatWiz is released, will we be able to craft a AOSP or AOKP, FULLY functional because of kernel and such? I recall on Galaxy S II, there were loads of issues on other gb roms, than stock with sammy framework. :/
I mean, will we be able to get ICS running, crystal, on this device? Or will we encounter same stuff, such as lower music volumes on headsets and all that good stuff? Damn, I miss ICS from my Nexus Prime.
Anyway, cheers guys.

Really just need the kernel from Sammy. With that, most bugs can be ironed out.
Right now, the kernel is responsible for all the stupid SODs, etc.

Yes, we need a stable rooted ICS kernel for imilka to produce his magic.
But we'll also need the ICS source code IMO, mostly because of the possible driver issues. If Samsung delivers the code as quickly as they did for SGSII (within days of the official ICS release), we're away.
Noob Question Alert: Tablet mode?
Hi,
apologies for the thread hi-jacking.
with the chinese leak available at the moment, does tablet mode work properly? without systemui fc?
also, Out of AOSP, AOKP and ICS Stunner, which has the most refined tablet mode for daily use as a phone?
Moved To Q&A
Its a question so it belongs in the Q&A section. Do not post here just because you think it will get more "exposure" we have rules for a reason!

I'm using Stunner ICS 4.2 in tablet mode (213 DPI) with no problem.
I've been using since day 1 and I'm loving it!!!
Only drawback is the keyboard, that doesn't hide the bottom bar, and makes typing more difficult since I'm not used to not having the keyboard starting at the bottom of the screen.
Other than that it's the perfect interface for the Note's big screen

No, system UI crashes at boot so no clock and most important no notifications. And also Samsung stuffs look very bad...
AOSP and ICS Stunner both work great

will rooting a phone

like that of no incall audio on regular phones?
skype to pc calls has audio so i think its more of the call app problem...
will ICS be able to fix that?
or will other roms fix that?

I'd love to help you, but what do you mean? If a phone is supposed to do anything out of the box, it will do it. If it doesn't it's hardware or application conflicts. - A root will not make the phone do something, in itself, the root is to install othere applications and alter system and such. - Your exact problem, I don't understand. :/

I'm curious...what is everyone's ICS distro of choice for the Nexus One?
i.e. BCM / TexasIce / MIUI
No bashing allowed...only critical conversation please!
I'm using BCM as I like to have the Cyanogenmod features.
+1 for BCM9
BCM is running pretty smooth and with good features.

BCM

Damn.
That's a lot for BCM.
I'm currently running TexasIce. No problems. Smooth as silk.
What does BCM have over TexasIce? Have they fixed the video camera FC?
CyanogenMod 9 I don't care about the video camera, rarely use(d) it.

Gotcha.
So what does BCM have over TexasIce? I'm in no way trying to poke holes in anybody's preferrence. If anything, I'm looking for a reason to flash BCM here. Is BCM basically just TexasIce with the CM9 toolbox? Is one any more "AOSP"-ish than the other?
As I said, BCM has CyanogenMod 9 over TexasICS. I got really used to CM7, and CM9 is no different (some functionality is still missing though). I tried TexasICS a few times, but I feel like BCM fits my needs more than TexasICS. I don't have anything against TexasICS, and I don't think people should see these 2 ROMs as opponents.

I got you bro, but my question is still pretty unanswered.
To begin with, I'll say that I LOVE the CM team and all their work. The CM ROMs are minimalist, yet customizable, ultimately providing an android experience that's unadulterated by even the slightest carrier modifications. Plus it's tailored for the power user.
I know this, but that's not quite what I'm looking for in the answer.
I'm simply wondering, besides being associated with the cyanogenmod team, is BCM more stable/closer to being a complete, bugless AOSP distribution of ICS than TexasIce?
I gather that they have not fixed the video camera FC- something that's not a big deal to me.
For example, this is the list taken directly from the TexasIce thread of things that are NOT working:
Gapps might not work properly (search the thread for fixes before posting issues)
USB: MTP / PTP / Tethering
wifi ad-hoc (might work)
Builtin alarm clock app doesn't work 100% of the time.
Click to collapse
*Anything in blue doesn't really bother me...and the gapps issue is an old wive's tale
I'm curious about whether the stock alarm clock app is buggy in BCM as well, though.
While it's not on the list, an FC when hitting 'record' in the stock video camera app is the only other major issue. Apparently this is due to having to fix something with the stagefright video encoder
What I'm wondering is- Has BCM fixed ANY of these things as of right now? Or are both ROMs on the 'same page'?
The Gapps that I installed with BCM are all working 100%. Never had any FC or freeze. The USB issues I wouldn't know because I never use it for anything other than ADB/Fastboot. Wifi idem dito. Alarm clock is working 100% for me, never missed any early class. I don't believe I've read anything about the alarm clock not working in the BCM thread
Also, I believe BCM doesn't have the Screen of Death which some TexasICS users are experiencing. But it's the same with every ROM: it can work perfectly on one Nexus One, while it sucks on the other.

Awesome bro that's what I'm looking for.
Ultimately, I've got no real allegiance to one brand or the other. As I said, I love the CM team and what they do. I'm all about results though, and if they're a bit behind TexasIce than I'm not interested.
By the sound of it, though, this isn't the case. I appreciate your input man.
Just flashed TexasIce ICS yesterday, but it looks like I might be flashing BCM today.
Thanks again for the info bro.
Just wait a few hours and somebody else would recommend TexasICS
Please let us know what you think after you've installed BCM!

Yeah, likewise, I haven't tried TexasIce, but the known problems listed as being present in TexasIce (aside from video recording), are non-issue in BCM.
One thing I did discover though - if you take TexasIce's latest Kernel (he posted it in a thread) and put that in BCM, BCM becomes just as fast (or faster) than Cyanogen Mod 7! No hindrance on battery life either. I was in shock - a full speed / slick / stable ICS on Nexus One...now if the video recording / camera scanning features were enabled, this would be 100% fully operational.
I have used both.
Both are equally good and stable but I was on Bcm at the end for a while before I switched to sensation xe.
I preferred bcm due to no SoD issues(drewis kernel solved it later on also) , ease of install and configuration also I was having 3-5 random restarts on tesaxice but seldomly had on bcm, once a week if any.

Really quickly, I know BCM is ported from the HTC Desire/Bravo CM9. Now, I know the Desire and the N1 are almost identical, the only differences being the N1's trackball and capacitive buttons (as far as I know).
So, question: Does the N1 port of the Desire's CM9 distribution have all the N1's hardware working correctly? Trackball wake and notifications? Any/everything else?
Ultimately, even though it's a port, is BCM being developed with the N1 in mind?
Thanks for the info fellas.
+1 BCM with Drew Kernel

First of all I would like to say that developers work for free and are therefor free in their decision on which project they work or not. I really appreciate their work in general and you should do so, too. Instead of questioning their decisions.
Indeed there are quiet stable ICS roms. The most popular are Evervolv's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366897) and SpazeDog's (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1813744) ICS. Have a look at the single threads for its tradeoffs.

I've been running the TexasICE a4 ICS for several months and it has been quite stable. I average maybe one SOD or reboot a month. I've heard a6 (most recent) has data connectivity problems going back and forth between WiFi and cellular, so I never installed it. It's quick and minimal. Installed the Gapps manually to maximize internal space (I don't use the VideoEditor or YouTube apps, for example.) This keeps about 28MB free on the /system partition and about 42MB on /data. I do have trouble with Play Store updates to large apps (>20MB), even if they are installed to SD because the Store seems to need about 2x the app size in /data in order to install them. I don't blame ICS for this though. This phone wasn't made with 20+MB apps in mind. Since I have an N7 now, I mainly just use the phone for calls, calendar alerts, GTalk, and podcasts. I have very little non-essential stuff on there anymore.
