This is a guide that shows you how to dual boot multiple android ROMs, and it's possible that these ROMs have different android versions
I'll be using boot manager application in this guide. It's not my app, I didn't develop it and I didn't help in developing it in any way.
The application doesn't touch you internal memory at all. It just makes .img files for the system, data, cashe and boot. It also makes a .android_secure folder.
So any change made will be in the SDcard not in the Internal memory.
That's enough talking, now here are the steps for installing a ROM and booting to it. But before you do anything, make a Nandroid backup (just in case if something goes wrong)
1- Open market (play store) and download Boot manager (lite or pro, but I will be using the lite version in this guide)
2- Open the app. It will make the first time configuration in which it will download about 3~4 MBs.
3- [IMPORTANT !!] Setup your phone ROM. This creates a boot image file for your current ROM so you can boot back again to your original ROM.
4- After that, swipe to go to the first ROM slot. Press install zip button, choose your ROM's zip file location, then check the three boxes (system, data & cashe). Then press okay, then choose which file system you will be using.
Now it's creating files for your ROM inside /SDcard/BootManager/rom1.
You can see the progress in the notification dropdown menu. Try not to use your phone while installing because it will be very slow and laggy.
5- Now it's time to install gapps or any other mod you want to install. Do the same steps as the ROM installation but this time don't check any box. If your ROM doesn't include gapps then you MUST install it as boot manager needs to check your license.
6- Now you can boot to the installed ROM. JUST press boot ROM
The booting process will probably take more time than usual. That's normal don't worry about it.
OK now you're on a SDcard ROM and you want to go back to your phone (original) ROM. Just open boot manager, swipe to phone ROM then press boot ROM. It's that simple
Some problems I had:
When I wanted to go back to my phone ROM, it doesn't boot, it just open the recovery and it doesn't want to reboot properly.
Solution:
Make an advanced restore for the system from the recovery then boot. If it didn't work then make another advanced restore for boot. That's the only solution I have found till now.
Tips and Tricks:
1- If the performance is slow, overclock the device.
2- Use SDcard booster, it's found on the play store.
3- Also use swapper, also found on play store.
4- You can also edit some details, as the ROM and kernel name and screenshots.
5- If you were using the lite version you WILL find the paid one in the SDcard ROMs. But don't be happy as it won't open. Just uninstall it and then install the lite version again from the play store.
6- If you are like me, in a country in which billing in android market is disabled or you just don't want to pay for the pro version, do the following:
Although the lite version has only one rom slot but it creates 5 folders rom1, rom2,.... etc
And it only creates the files in the rom1 folder
Let's say for example you are running CM7 as your daily driver and you want rom1 to be LeWaOS and Rom2 to be CM9 KANG.
It's quite simple, first install CM9 normally, it will be installed to Rom1 folder. Then copy every file in that folder to rom2 folder and delete the contents of .android_secure folder in rom1, then install LeWaOS normally.
If you want to boot into LeWaOS u can boot normally using boot manager. If you want cm9 then copy the files inside Rom2 folder back to Rom1 then boot normally through boot manager

Me too, but it happened to me in an older version. The current one works fine for me except the part when I go back to my phone ROM.
Sent from my still alive, ICS capable HTC Wildfire.
I haven't used it for ages, I bought it months ago but imo its simpler, the rom runs a little smoother, its less buggy and doesn't take up as much room on your sd card just to do a nandroid of every rom, then just switch them that way. Unless you'd rather have the novelty factor of using an App to do it.
A few things I noticed was it wouldn't work on cm7 no matter what I did, even with support from the developer (that may be fixed now though) on a sense based rom it worked first time everytime so if anyone has a problem with it not writing on the images switch your main rom to a sense based one.
It changes the boot path to direct it to the sd card so if you get stuck on the splash screen simply booting into recovery and advanced restoring the boot image should put things right again, as far as I know it doesn't touch the system partition so you shouldn't need to restore that. (saves a few minutes)

I already know that it doesn't touch the system partition and I tried restoring boot only but it didn't reboot. I had to restore system also. It's not a logical solution but it works for me
And sometimes restoring the system only works too
My mobile must be always different than other's mobiles I don't know why but it does

Thanks for the guide...it is working fine...no issues in switching between Roms..
Scratch was right..my phone rom is Rempuzzle and Sd card Rom is Lewa..Since Rempuzzle is a sense Rom ..it didnt give me any sort of pain...
Those who wants to try take the base rom as a Sense and then try experimenting...

So if it doesn't touch the system, i suppose there is no problem for people with custom mtd partitions? (Due to boot a rom, installing bravo-boot.zip is required)

It creates a new system.img 250mb on the sd card, not sure if you can physically change that but your original mtd should be fine.
Why don't you test it out?
i didn't use mtd because i had to use sense as a base just to get the app to work, as previously mentioned i have no need for this app now, nandroids work just fine.

I'm using custom MTD partitions and can confirm that there are no problems with using this.
Primary ROM is CM7.2 and secondary is CM9, only issue is that when going back to primary, you need to do advanced restore of system.
I must say the following.
A few days ago I encountered another problem while returning back to the phone rom, in my case it's CM7. Some of my apps got deleted. I don't know what caused or why did it happen. They were about 4 or 5 apps. They weren't uninstalled completely as the data remained but the app itself got deleted.

I am very new to this, so I am not sure what to looks for on the forum.
I generally followed instructions from Lifehacker and this forum, used androot to root my phone, done it after two days.. (finally figured out I had to downgrade my phone.. )
So now I'm rooted, I have super user access, and I have rom manager installed. Here are a couple of things I know I want to get to do:
- install froyo (as stable as possible)
- uninstall sprint crapware (the NFL, navigation and others.. who needs them)
- possibly overclocking a little by what I read, I have another battery and I'm willing to try and give overclock a "little" each time to see if it works.
Before I do anything (I backed up my current settings with rom manager), I wanted to post here and ask you guys what I should do first, and how do I restore things back to normal if something goes wrong?
Thanks a bunch!

If you install CM, it will remove all apps anyways. If you want to know how to remove apps - there are threads all over the place for it.
Also, attached is a script I wrote to remove apps (apk). It's a very simple straightforward script. Here's what you do, create a subfolder (not needed) on your sdcard, copy the two files into the folder, update "Apps-to-remove,txt" with all the apks you want to remove (with the full path) and run the script through terminal or adb shell. This script is not needed, but just simplifies the job, that's all.

Goto http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774, read through and use, as appropriate. If you use the latest build by Jaybob, you may not need any kernels from this thread, as the builds have the latest code.
Hope this helps.

To restore everything back to "Out-of-the-box", just run the official RUU from HTC/Sprint.
Thanks Andy.
Right now I'm going through Roms (I heard good things about Cyanogen but I can't download it because their registration page is messed up..) and I tried what comes for free with Rom Manager, which almost gave me a heart attack when the phone started... fortunately I read the instructions to restoring things so I was able to get back to my old rom (whew!!)
But now, for some reason, I don't have the market app on my phone! how am I to download rom manager...
Is it possible to chat with you or someone at least for a couple of minutes as I go through this, because at this rate I won't have my phone working well until tomorrow >.>
You need to install GAPPS, once you install a ROM.
I would highly recommend CM. The builds Jaybob has put together are based on CM code, take the latest (12/08) - it's stable. BTW, it's a mediafire link, so you should be good. I just downloaded the latest, y'day... works like a charm... (Thanks JayBob and Cm and everyone - can't say that enough).
The best way to install rom is:
1. Download copy ROM and gapps to your SDcard's root
2. Reboot into recovery
3. Wipe everything - Wipe/Factory reset, Wipe cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Install ROM from zip
5. Install Gapps from zip
6. Reboot - btw, the first reboot after a rom/gapps install takes a while, so don't be alarmed.
You can PM me, if needed.
I installed that last Rom via Rom Manager, which did it pretty much automatically.. so I didn't try to install a Rom via the SD card yet.
To make things worse, the phone does not recognized it's connected to a computer at all (there is no USB icon on my phone's notification bar) so I can restore it being to old sprint crap. No Market app, no way of installing anything or communicating with the phone, my backup, when I restore it, brings back the old HTC but without the market app and as I said, no USB support.
heeeeeelllllllllppppppppppppp
Ok,
I managed to restore things back to the old Sprint RUU. I noticed the SD card was *completely* out of room, which might have messed up my backups. I still don't know where these backups reside or how much room do they take, but making sure you have enough room on the SD card is important, as I think I have learned the hard way.
Important: the RUU detected my phone and installed *even without* the usb icon or my computer treating my phone as a "usb storage device". So resorting to this option, even though annoying (have to install and gain root access all over again), is helpful to have.
Now I am going to format my SD card, which doesn't have any important information, I don't think (my documents are all backed up anywhere and try and install the CM rom from a zip file, which I'm not sure how to do yet (people like me are used to have something like setup.exe, and everything works from there...) so I'm going to read and go step by step.
ROM installation is pretty simple, once you get your recovery going... just make sure you wipe everything, as I mentioned earlier to you...

What we have here is a custom battery indicator for Desire HD ROMs.
It has been designed to look as close to stock as possible but has that extra special little something to make it stand out from the crowd. You'll see that this battery indicator mod is unlike most in that it offers the best of both worlds. It has the both a percentage indicator as well as a nice smooth charging animation. If you have a Desire HD, or a Desire HD based ROM on your device and like that stock look, you can't go wrong with my mod.
NOTE: The first upload, the one that does NOT say "GB.Sense" has only been tested on 1.84 based Desire HD ROMS and I can only guarantee it to work for users using a 1.84 based Desire HD ROM. Because I used the framework-res.apk from the 1.84 ROM, it may not work properly on other builds. If you decide to test it on an older build such as 1.32 or 1.72, please report your results.
NOTE 2: The 2nd file attached, the one that DOES say "GB.Sense", is for GingerSense builds. It has been built using files from the 2.36.405.8 build and only tested on CMYLXGO's Gingersense ROM. Please test and report your results on other builds.
NOTE 3: This is a complete framework-res.apk file. If you have a custom theme installed that includes the framework-res.apk file, this will revert your framework back to stock with only the custom battery indicator.
This includes:
1. Battery percentages from 0-100%
2. Smooth charging animation - looks MUCH nicer when charging.
3. Super simple update.zip that works EVERY SINGLE TIME
4. Does not affect the APN
5. Only shows percentage when NOT charging. When plugged in all you see is smooth charging animation.

In this post, you'll find a small update that will change the notification bubbles for the HTC Mail and Messaging apps.
In the 1.84 builds, HTC changed the way the notification bubbles appeared on the Mail and Messaging apps. They changed it from a green dot with a nice gradient to a black dot with a green ring around it.
This update will change them back to the original style green notification bubbles that actually match the rest of the notification bubbles and color scheme in the ROM.
NOTE: I took the MMS and Mail.apk's from the 1.84 build and therefore this MOD will not work on another build without bugs. To further my point, the older 1.32 and 1.72 builds already have green notification bubbles like depicted below.
NOTE2: This will NOT delete any of your settings/emails/messages when installing the update.
This includes:
1. MMS.apk and Mail.apk from 1.84 Desire HD ROM
2. Modified images to blend in and better match with the rest of the ROM.

As some of you may have noticed, that nifty "Advanced Power Menu" isn't really available as an update.zip for those of us using 1.84.661.1 builds. Well now that's a problem of the past because I present you with a fully functional Advanced Power Menu for builds based on the 1.84.661.1 Desire HD ROM.
NOTE: This will not affect anything on your device other than the menu that appears when you long-press the Red End Call Button.
NOTE2: It might take a long time for your device to boot back up into Android after installing this update. Be patient. It is rebuilding your Dex files and will boot soon.
This includes:
1. Modified android.policy.jar from 1.84.661.1 Desire HD ROM
2. 7 options instead of 3 - See screenshot
3. Hot reboot option when pressing restart from Power Menu
4. All options work perfectly.

I really hope you're kidding but just in case.. I updated the OP. You'll install it via Clockwork Mod Recovery.
I tried both with cmylxgo's 1.1.7 on my TMO HD2 (using clockwork, of course ) and they both caused a reboot loop. I'd love to have battery percentage w/o an extra app.

Hmmm. That didn't occur to me. I'll try and report back. Thanks.
EDIT: Strange indeed! It reboot looped after each of three attempts yesterday. I did it again just now and it worked this time. On a hunch I did it without clearing the caches. I was having root problems when I was installing yesterday, could that have interfered?

It's always possible that a preexisting issue could cause more issues as a chain reaction type deal. See the way I do it is this:
1. Backup my phone 100%
2. Install new ROM(Wipes data and everything else)
3. Install my 2 fixes above immediately after ROM Flash finishes.
4. Using CWM, restore data.
This way I end up with the most recent build, the most recent fixes and never lose anything.
anyway to get this... for people with sd builds?
i just need these !thanks
Cool Mods.. thanks a lot for this.. i will check it out!

In imilka's thread, he has instructions on how to do this on the first post:

I have implemented script, that would allow copying files to system easily, you won't have to know where to copy your file, either in app_r, or app.
How to use:
1) create 'root' folder on your sd card
2) create folder directory structure under it, where files should be copied
Examples:
1) need to modify framework-res in /system/framework, i should:
a) create 'root' folder on sd card
b) create 'system' folder inside 'root'
c) create 'framework' folder inside 'system'
d) put framework-res into 'framework' folder

b) create 'data' folder inside 'root'
c) put needed file there
d) reboot
Please, make sure 'root' folder is removed from sdcard after boot! Remove it manually if it hasn't been removed.

What you need to do is extract the zip files and then copy over the apk files using his root script. CWM will not work for his ROM.

Thank you,
Will try to do it and will report back.
EDIT:
Can easily replace the framework-res.apk by creating a root folder with following structure:
root/system/framework/framework-res.apk
I couldn't find where to put the META-INF Folder though ?????????????????????
I'd appreciate some help please !!!
EDIT 2:
THE CORRECT BATH TO PUT THE framework-res is:
root\sd-ext\sys-parts\framework_r
and no need to copy the META-INF folder any where ... Thank you

NOTE: This has only been tested on 1.84 based Desire HD ROMS and I can only guarantee it to work for users using a 1.84 based Desire HD ROM. Because I used the framework-res.apk from the 1.84 ROM, it may not work properly on other builds. If you decide to test it on an older build such as 1.32 or 1.72, please report your results.
NOTE 2: This is a complete framework-res.apk file. If you have a custom theme installed that includes the framework-res.apk file, this will revert your framework back to stock with only the custom battery indicator.

I themed my CM9 Galaxy Nexus notification drawer widgets to match the blue in the rest of ICS instead of the default white. I had an Epic 4G visitor ask about doing this for their phone, so I built this Zipthemer file to help y'all out. I don't have an Epic 4G so I couldn't test this out. If you try it let me know if it works, or what doesn't work.

download zipthemer here
*How to use Zipthemer*
note: you may need a ROM of you have flashed (CM9) in order to configure your edify script (this is the script that tells CWM what to do when you run your update.zip file)
1. Install zipthemer!
2. Open up the menu (on ICS it's the 3 vertical dots) and click on update edify (you will only have to do this once)
3. Updating Edify screen (complete either Option 1 or Option 2)
- option 1: browse to the ROM you have on your phone and click it -- done
- option 2: click on download, then exit out of the screen, click options (3 dots), settings, update script format, select your phone. If your phone isn't present, see option 1.
4. Download the zipthemer file (.zip), and using a file explorer, move it to the "zipthemer" folder on your sd card.
5. open zipthemer again, click the "+theme" button, select the theme you want to apply (you can select more than one, or even only certain parts of one)
6. click "*output" button and pick the name you want for your update file (or accept the default). Leave the "-update.zip" at the end of the file name and "/sdcard/" at the beginning so it will be in your sdcard root directory and easier to find when you go to flash it.
7. click "build it!", it will ask you if you want to create a backup file, I usually do just in case so I don't have to re-flash the entire ROM to undo my changes if I want to.
8. Exit zipthemer, reboot to recovery, flash your new zip file, reboot system, enjoy!
more notes:
a. as always, it's a pretty good idea to run a nandroid anytime you play with your system (this is a do as I say, not as I do kinda statement)
b. A lot of these type of themes where some system files are modified or system apps are modified, it's good to do a wipe dalvik/cache
c. if you update your ROM to a new nightly/RC/stable, re-build the zipthemer file. It's likely that this isn't necessary, but unless you know just what the CM team changed it's probably a good idea.
Sounds good! I'll have to try. Were u gonna post a link to zipthemer or am I missing something?

my directions may have been a little "off". The +output button expects you to pick a file. Just skip that one and click the *output button, if it says /sdcard/ first it will be in your sdcard root. Just type in the filename you want after that. Don't worry, you're not doing anything wrong.

I know it seemed like a dumb question, but I'm starting at the very beginning and runnning through some of the basics to try and troubleshoot where the problem is.
My next two questions are
1. what version of CWM are you using (you can find this in ROM manager. Also, if ROM Manager says there is a newer version for you have it update to the newer version).
2. Next, which option did you use in zipthemer to configure your edify script? I prefer the option that uses a ROM you've flashed on your phone because I know the edify script in the ROM's .zip works - because I've used it to flash the ROM!
Don't worry about being new to this, we're all new to it at some point.

Do not change your CWM Recovery for cm9. It has to be the one included in the package. The script needs to be rewritten for MTD. It needs to mount system before flash, then unmount when finished (I believe).

May be true, listen to the guy with the same phone as you in this case, not me. I'm just a GNex guy providing a bit of theming on request. If you have a CWM version in your CM9 package that is a unique situation as I certainly don't (and haven't on any of my android devices).
At any rate, the CWM version probably won't make much difference here. If it's in your CM9 package then it's a safe bet that it's fairly new one and most certainly uses edify. Which brings me back to my earlier question, how did you configure your edify script?
Another thing to look at, based on a little clue in Zeinzu's post, would be to try to mount /system/ in CWM before you flash the update. before you flash the upate, while in CWM, go to "mounts and storage" then in there mount /system/, then go back and now click on "install zip from sdcard", "choose zip", etc to flash the update. You can go back now and unmount storage but I don't think you have to, you can probably just restart system. If, by chance, you go into "mounts and storage" and all you see for /system/ is "unmount" then system is already mounted and therefore not the problem.

the file seems to look OK to me. The script mounts system for you and MTD so you shouldn't have to do that manually in CWM. Try to configure edify using option 1 (you'll need your version of CM9 downloaded to you phone for zipthemer to use). I like to use option 1 because i figure I used that edify to flash my ROM, so I know it works right. If this doesn't work I'll have to do some thinking.
to anybody else, have you used this successfully on your Epic 4G?
Hello everyone. I just bought my phone 3 months ago, and i'm little tired of stock rom, because of some lag and bugs it have. So i decided to flash some CM7. Really don't know anything about flashing and rooting. Was reading some threads on this forum, but there's so many information that at the end decided to create my own thread. Hope someone will have a little bit of time and reply it.
My phone info: (it's not rooted, just stock version out of the box)
Model: LG-P990
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: 1035.21_20110725 (what is that?)
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: GRJ22
LGE Version: LGP990-V20a
1. So first of all i would like to make a backup, so if something went wrong i could recovery my phone. Maybe you could suggest some not very difficult tool for that.
2. What should i do next, wipe, root, flash, kernel rewrite? Maybe someone could link me or write how to do it step by step.
3. Which rom and kernel to use? What are difference between them (kernels and roms)? I prefer battery life > bugs > speed > customization.
P.s. I really don't know much about doing what i just wrote, please don't be mad Thank you for your help.
First of all you should root your device, this is generally the first thing to do. I believe I used super one click for this, here is a guide for doing so: http://androidadvices.com/how-to-root-lg-optimus-2x-p990-tutorial/ also there are some guides here around on xda where you will be able to follow a step by step tutorial for rooting
For easy backup I would recommend Titanium backup. Search for it on the market it will show up there furthermore you should always backup your phone through clockwork mod recovery. Clockwork mod is an app you install after rooting and you access recovery by flashing recovery and then booting into it. It is also from here you will be "flashing" your custom rom of choice
So in a step by step tutorial here's what to do:
1. Rooting
plenty of guides are found on this lg optimus 2x forum with links and guides as for how to root your phone. Afterwards you should check if it was done properly, you can do this with root checker simply download it from the market and check it
2. Downloading your custom rom:
Next step is to download your custom rom and throw it onto your phones SD-card.
You can choose anything you like but I would recommend the build in my sig link is here
now for kernels, you don't really need any :b you will be perfectly fine with whatever you already have here But if you do want to flash a custom kernel aswell it is virtually the same as flashing a custom rom
3. Make a backup of your phones apps and contacts:
Making backups is really easy, just download titanium backup from the market to backup your apps and backup your contacts through the phones built in adress book.
4. Boot your phone into recovery:
This is how it looks:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
First of all, install rom manager this is an app found in the market just search for it and it will be there. Next use the app to flash clockworkmod recovery (yes thats the top button in the app :b). Then when this is done reboot into recovery. When here your phones screen will not be used to navigate, instead use your volume rockers to navigate and the power button to select.
When here you should make a nand-backup of your phone, this is basically a backup of everything on your phone and it can be used to restore your phone should anything go wrong here
This is somewhat like what your recovery would look like:
From here choose "backup/restore" and here choose backup. Now your phone will make a backup
Also before flashin you will have to choose both of the following options:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cache
5. Flash your rom (and custom kernel):
Now, finally, you will see some improvements :b Still navigating ClockworkMod recovery choose install zip from sd card, then find your rom and choose it. Now the flashing begins and your phone will do this for some time, once done reboot your phone and you're done!
GL and HF, i hope this helped you
1. First you need to root your phone. Rooting your phone won't erase your data. Use this guide to root your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182
This method works flawlessly and is really easy!
After rooting, you can check if it worked, by looking for the Superuser app in your app drawer, or download the root checker app and check for yourself.
Also, after you rooted your phone, you need to install the following apps: Rom Manager and Titanium Backup. With Titanium Backup, you can backup all your apps and restore them. Consider buying this app, because it's really worth the extra money. Use any SMS/Contacts backup app to backup your contacts. (Don't forget to grant Titanium Backup Superuser access)
Afterwards, you open Rom Manager (again give this app also superuser access) and select the option flash recovery. Clockworkmod recovery mode is just a system which allows you to flash custom roms and kernels. Make sure you flash the O2X recovery and not the G2X, because you have a P990. Clockworkmod Recovery version 5.0.2.0 is good enough. You can enter recovery mode with ROM Manager or reboot into it. When your phone is off, you can boot into recovery manually by holding the power and volume down button until you see the second LG bootscreen with the blueish background.
2. First you need to download the following things and put them on your SD card:
- Any ROM (Cyanogenmod 7 or 9)
- Any kernel (Cyanogenmod Kernel for CM7 or CM9)
- Google Apps (for Gingerbread or Ice cream sandwich)
Afterwards, boot into recovery mode. You can navigate through the menus with the volume buttons and the power button. Also I would recommend you to make a backup of your current LG rom in recovery mode. (Backup/Restore - Backup - Yes) Keep this backup if you ever need to return your phone to stock in order to send it to LG.
In recovery mode choose the option:
- wipe data/factory reset
This option won't erase your root, only your current ROM and apps (but you should have made a backup by then)
After this is done, choose the option:
- wipe cache
This option is necessary in order to flash a rom
Then select the following option:
- install zip from sdcard
Browse through your sdcard and first install the rom. After this is done, install another zip and install the Google Apps package. This package includes the Android Market. Afterwards, you could install another zip, which is the kernel, but this is optional. Obviously you need to find the kernel zip and install it.
After installing all this you should be done and you should select reboot system. This will reboot your phone normally into the rom. Note that the first boot in a new rom always takes some time.
3 I would advise the combination in my signature. This combination is very smooth and fast.
Hope this helped!
Gosh this community is so helpful

On stock gingerbread it worked but now i can't add any files. It shows internal storage and then no folders or files.

Nope I don't think so, many people are having the same problem. What you can do is to put your sd-card in a card reader and add files through there. That's what I do anyways :b
EDIT::
Have you checked if you have the correct drivers installed? go check in the device manager and if it says that no drivers are installed (or no correct drivers, anyways) try and install them automatically. This worked for me
Umm, I'm quite new here, so I don't exactly know how it works, but shouldn't this thread (post #3 especially) be "Sticky"?

I just installed custom kernel/rom.
Rom: temasek's UNOFFICIAL BUILD RC1-85
Kernel: [CM7/MIUI Kernel][KANG][APR02] ETaNa with Spica (c) OTF ToolKit
When i installed all this, i missed Google Play and account sync, so i downloaded some "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip" and installed with Rom Manager. I don't know why, but google play crashes very very often. Maybe i did something wrong?
And how the hell should i select ringtone from my SDcard? Because when i click Phone Ring tone theres only some main ringtones and no "select from" options.
Oh and the last one, why the hell drawer is so lagy? Because of inscripted ADW? It's very anoying.
Thanks again.

You've done something wrong when flashing temasek's kang, I get google play immediately, don't need to flash gapps and it doesn't crash, I would do a full wipe and reflash if I were you.
To select ringtones you will have a folder in your sdcard media -> audio -> ringtones. You have to put the desired ringtones in that folder.
My drawer is also laggy. Just put the apps you use in your home screens and don't use it
Hope I helped! Cheers!

Hmmm theres no such a folder called media in my sdcard. And when i create it and move mp3 file to it it doesnt appear in ringtone selection. Do i need to restart my phone when i move ringtones to that folder?
When i was flashing new rom i did that. First i made a recovery, then wiped my phone, then clicked install zip from SD card and clicked my rom file. It said that flashing was successful. Then did the same for kernel. And finally rebooted my phone. Everything went well, phone turned on, no errors .. nothing. I installed latest version of that rom, i linked it before.
It seems google play not crashing anymore, i dont know why, but it works. I didnt do anything. Other problem appeared. When i installed GAPPS, Car Home app was installed. I removed it with Titanium Backup successfully. But sometimes in my bottom bar (where clock, battery and other stuff are), it appears. When i slide that bar down it says click to close Car Home. Its very anoying. I tried to look with root explorer for that app in my phone, no clue. How the hell should i remove it? Because i cant find it anywhere. Thanks
Finally got my Sprint CDMA Gtab with broken internal Sd working on CM10.1. However I can't get the gapps package install and I don't have a working clkworkmod recovery ... It always gets clobbered.
Is there an easy way to install gapps from within Android?
Cm10.1 kernel definitely contains a cwm recovery.
How is yours without one?
Gapps is a pack of apk and files.
Read the updater-script in its META-INF folder and you can do exactly like what the script does, manually.

This is one of those CDMA Gtabs with the busted internal SD so all the partition assignments are screwy. The ROM I've had most luck with is the CM10.1 with the Humberos? Kernel... Don't know if it contains CWM. Every time I flash in the ROM it wipes CWM but if I reinstall CWM then the ROM doesn't boot so right now they are mutual exclusive.
Trying to install a gapp apk file with FileManager doesn't work... It gets going but then says install failed... I presume the partitioning is screwing it up.... Gave it perms and made /system rw, still no go.
Anyways I just reinstalled the whole thing, oddly I have to flash another CM10 ROM first with CWM (which doesn't boot) then follow it with the 10.1 ROM but this time I also did the gapps. Now everything is 'fine' although I still don't have CWM...
UPDATE: I see that others are finding their recovery clobbered with this Rom...
