You can root and install custom ROM
You should NOT unlock your bootloader , which means you can not install a custom kernel...

Rom is a custom firmware for your phone...
Like the OS is for a pc,custom firmwares are like OS for a phone...
and in order to install a custom rom you need to root a phone and install recovery...
so you must start off with rooting...
I would suggest you to search youtube for detailed video instructions

Hi, i bought a SE Xperia X8 last year and shortly after i updated it to 2.1. Now is taking a lot doing everything, it was slow down by the time (naturally).
I'd like to start customizing it and ofc overclock it, but before format it or flash it, i don't know if in this case is the same... computer are my thing
Well, the idea of this topic is to find some help or guide to start doing this, I'll appreciate it
The SD is only 2 GB... I hope it is sufficient.
Sorry for my English, I'm Spanish. Thanks in advance!
First off while the 2 GB Sd card should be ok id look into getting a bigger Sd card. Here is a good guide that should get you started:

which kernel?
The latest nAa-ics-04, is in the requeriments.
I flash it again and is working, with X8i_2.1.1.A.0.6_Baseband_015.ftf. But i want to install that kernel to use MiniCM9. How can i install CMW, the kernel and that rom?
I think i did it fine:
RUNNING S1_EROM VER "r8A029"
SOFTWARE AID: 0001
LOADER AID: 0001
FLASH ID: "0020/00BC"
LOADER VERSION: "R4A045"
MODEL (from GDFS): E15i
SOFTWARE VERSION: 1236-9291_2.1.1.A.0.6
CUSTOM VERSION: 1241-4077_R2B
FILESYSTEM VERSION: VFE-1-8_2.0.1.A.0.47
SERIAL NO: CB511R82AK
SEMC SIMLOCK CERTIFICATE
Elapsed:18 secs.
Now i'm lost... i don't know how to install kernel and rom.
Any help please?
alright then, does the loader version showing "r" instead of "R" after unlocking bootloader? if it is then you can flash kernel using flashtool, go google it or find in the kernel thread, the kernel nAa ics has CWM installed already on it, so if you already flashed the kernel you can go to CWM by pressing back button (or tapping on the screen, i did both of that) you can flash ROM from CWM as written in the MiniCM9 Thread, tell me if there's any problem..
Thanks! Now I'm installing it... i didn't know how to enter and if its already installed in kernel.
When i have all installed and working i'll edit or respond.

Install a stock kernel with recovery, then flash a stock rom for your device. Just check out the Development section for your Xperia and you'll find one

When in 4.1.2 root your phone, after root flash the custom rom 4.3 you will not have the new bootlaoder and will not have issues on knox things.
But if I'm you I will wait for Galaxy S5 coming on March or April I think.

Thanks Bro that was my expected answer.. and one thing i saw some thread state that internal sd should be format and if not there would be some file/folder error.... so when i flash 4.3 is there anything else i do??
No, for real. Just flash ANY custom 4.3 rom over your 4.1.2 (custom roms don't contain bootloader) and you are ready to go/use
This way, I had no problems... And I've been flashing my phone TONES of times ;p
