Re-Root Detailed Assistance Needed! - LG Revolution

Hey Guys I recently updated my LG Revolution to the new ZV8 update (via LG Flash Program) and lost root. At this point, I attempted to reflash to ZV7 and re-root using the all-in-one click root from our forums, but to no avail. The App detects the device and shows the whole process working, but does not complete it's task. Upon reading the forums a lot of people had similar issues, but were instructed to push files to certain locations and to do processes that I am definitely not well versed in. I would really appreciate some step by step assistance for:
1. Re-Rooting My Revolution while on ZV7
2. Updating to ZV8 With Root
3. Re-Enabling CWM
4. How to boot into Recovery to Flash Roms
I have extensive experience Flashing an rooting many other devices, but this seems to stop working at every corner. Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated. For anyone that does help, I have no access to the SDK, or ADB, or any program that pushes to or emulates Android. I need as simple a step by step as possible. Big thanks to any volunteers.

Unless someone gives you some quick and easy info to get there from where your now, I would highly recommend mtmichaelson's Easiest Method for Keeping Root Through ZV8 Update .
You'll first have to LGPNST back to ZV7, then you can use the method in the link above. Follow the directions exactly . It was painlessly easy for me coming from GV 2.1
Sent from my VS910 4G using Tapatalk

I followed the directions to the "T" to no avail.
*daemon started successfully*
Then nothing. No response whatsoever. Drivers Match, device has usb debugging and internet connection enabled.

Of you got to a the point where you're running the second batch file in that link, you should now be rooted after ZV8 OTA. Others have suggested using option number 2 in that beach file to test reboot into CWM Recovery. Nothing at the daemon sounds like it's Internet Connection and USB Debugging but you said those are enabled already.

Check this
Do you see the debugging icon in the notification bar? If you don't, daemon won't start. I would suggest starting over with the V7 tot and go from there if you are not getting the debug icon, (means debug is not starting although you have it selected)

How to root froyo 2.2.2

Download the .apk found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765 i used version 1.2. install a file manager if you transfered the file from your pc and find the .apk and install it. if doing it from the device same thing. before opening the .apk make sure debugging is on and unknown sources is enabled.
Open the gingerbreak .apk and simply click Root device. If successful the device will reboot. Once it reboots download an app that requires superuser. and if all went well it should ask for superuser perms. Also you should now see the SU apk in your app draw.
Now Download Rom Manager from the market and flash Clockworkmod recovery and flash away. Rom manager is only good for flashing recovery nothing else works within it. You must manually enter recovery by holding + volume and power until bootloader menu appears. Then select option 2. Make sure your battery has 80% or more. No more fastboot. Good luck and happy streaking.
I'm not responsible if you brick your device. Do some reading before you think about rooting and see if its for you.
Thanks goes to the devs of gingerbreak.
THANK YOU HELLZYA!
And Thanks to Chainfire over at GingerBreak.
This is the coolest thing EVER!
So happy to have root now!!!!!!
Time to be a flash monster. lol
Very strange. I have SU but CWM does not work.
I click on Backup ROM and it just reboots.
I click on Install ROM from SDCard and it just reboots.
I click Reboot into Recovery and it just reboots.
Other than that everything else works great that needs SU.
Now everything force closes
I haven't been able to flash because everytime I reboot my Streak 7 returns to factory state, so in another thread I was suggested this workaround to help me get CWM installed and then flash another ROM...
Well, I ran this and it seemed to be fine, ran quick and then rebooted, but much to my disappointment, now everything force closes, everything, I can't even use the calculator.... and sometimes the startup wizard crashes and/or the home launcher...
Im worse off than when I started.
About the only info I can give you is that it's a Streak 7 with 2.2.2 installed
Gravityrat rom manager is only good for flashing recovery nothing else. You have to manually access. Cwr by holding plus volume and power till you see bootloader menu. Select option 2 and you will be presented with cwr. Make sure your battery is at 80% or more

My bad... Figured that out laying in bed last night.

i rememeber reading this on streak forums last week
thanks for this!!! Too bad it was just one day late for me after spending 6 hours figuring everything out...
Where was this when I spent hours using SuperOneClick and finding workarounds?
But seriously, thanks for the method input! I love methods that don't require a computer (I'm trying to rid myself of a computer entirely, so I hate to hook up to my old desktop even if it's to root).
Thatruth it was actually posted this week. Saw it tryed it and it worked. Figured id share

Mods, can you replace the SuperOneClick sticky with this?
I am new at this, so can someone please explain how do I "make sure debugging is on and unknown sources is enabled"?
You need to download the gingerbreak apk from xda, make sure you allow opps from unknown sources and have debugging ticked, install the apk then open it and run it your streak will reboot then you have root hope it helps you
Go to your streaks settings and within there in applciations and development sections
Settings - applications - tick unknown sources - select development - tick debugging

rooting phone

hi,
i currently have the froyo 2.2.2. firmware and finding it hard to root.
Tried using super once click but it keeps waiting on device
if anyone has a guide or explanation on how to do it would be helpful thanks
If I remember correctly, you need to enable usb-debugging before using superoneclick. You can find it under the application settings in the phone.
Try using the gingerbreak app. That rooted mine fine.

you have to check usb debugging first than you can connect to your pc and root
usb debugging on settings->applications->development->usb debugging
and make sure you click the unknown sources so you can install apps like titanium backup
i had to install some driver in pc. before it, i stucked on "waiting for device" too. usual driver install many ports and mass storage device, but this driver installed only two services.

Initial setup/best practices

Soon-to-be, first-time, smart phone owner here.
My new Revolution is on the way and I have a few questions for current owners, rooters and rom installers.
I want to remove bloatware and Bing, improve battery life, allow tethering, and unlock the FM radio. Should I wait for Gingerbread? Root only? Install a custom Rom?
I know that the rooting process and roms improve over time and would also appreciate some input to the most current root/rom process.
Thanks,
J.
I would root right away, downgrade if necessary. RevoIt rom is incredibly fast and has bloat removed. We don't know how long until gingerbread so not worth waiting.

Sorry for double post. Best way to root is if your on VS910V6 is to downgrade (there is a tutorial on here somewhere) and use superoneclick 1.7 ragethecage. If VS910ZV4 is on your phone just use superoneclick regular root. Then you have to put on revotoolkit to put on cwm. There you can flash a new rom

Where do I find instructions for S1C 1.7? I went to the "development" forum and the S1C instructions say "confirmed not working, guide removed till update is available."

Just extract the files, run the program, plug phone in and select internet mode with USB debugging enabled, select the "rageagainstthecage" exploit in the right hand side drop-down menu and click ROOT.
If it hangs (gets stuck) try checking and unchecking USB Debugging while the program is running and the phone is plugged in.
Thanks for the help so far. I have successfully downgraded and rooted.
I apologize in advance because I know all of these questions have been asked before but there are sooo many guides and youtube videos and forums. Some things might apply to the Revo and some might not.
Anyway...
1. I plan on installing revolt 1.5 but first think I should backup and save a copy of the Verizon Rom to be able to go back if all hell breaks loose or they update to GB. If I backup in clockworkmod, where does the backup go on the sd card? What is the name of the file? Should I take it off the sd and or put it on a computer for safe keeping?
2. Does "rom manger" work for the revolution? I asked me for phone model but didn't have the revo listed.
3. I installed Ti backup but already have the rom backed up. Is Ti backup used solely to backup apps?
4. The install instructions for revolt 1.5 say "make sure 4g is enabled," how do I do that?
5. The instructions do not say to wipe the cache. Is that no longer a required step?
6. Is there a "file manager" for accessing the sd card?
Too many ?'s, but thanks.
J.
In the same boat, sort of.
Was wondering if the sixaxis app for connecting a playstation controller to our phone works. was gonna root my phone this weekend and if this app works with our phone maybe ill stay up a little later tomorrow to see if i can get it working lol.
Thanks for any reply

1. I'm pretty sure backups go to external/clockworkmod/backups
But you don't need to make backups for this since you can always flash the rooted stock ROM.
2.ROM manager does not work.
3.titanium backs up only apps and there data (I like mybackup pro more)
4. If you didn't change any settings 4g you'll be fine.
5. Always wipe cache and dalvik cache. May take time to boot up but its.normal .
6. Es file explorer or root explorer

Did 1-click upgrade path to 901 and lost root

Used P3's 1-click to get back on the upgrade path and take my phone to 901 and lost root. I was rooted prior with forever root applied. The script appeared to run fine and 901 was applied with the phone running okay ... except root is no longer there. Titanium ran okay prior. All other things about the phone work great ... 4G does appear to be a bit more responsive.
One thing of note was that during the script when zergRush was being applied I remember seeing a "Hellions with BLUE flame" popped up in the script.
Any help will be appreciated.
Mine did the same thing. Are you sure you were rooted before with forever root? And are you sure you dont have super user?

I definitely had root prior to the 1-click ... I have been running Titanium Backup for a few months now. And yes, I still have SuperUser on my phone.
If you go to P3s post at MDW, realbbb has a download on page 4 that works perfectly. I simply ran his script straight over the results ofP3's script and had no issues whatsoever.

Were you on 901 when you reran the bbb script over the top of p3's? I'm assuming "reran over the top" means no additional pushes, etc., just used the bbb batch file instead.
Yes realbbb's fixed script will work if run again over the BionicPathSaver. Be sure you have unzipped his BPS fix.zip into the same directory and use the runmebbb.bat file.

Thanks CZ.
Strange thing happening now. When the bbb batch tries to push the first files over to the sd I'm getting an "error:device not found".
I've got the latest Moto drivers installed. Even uninstalled and reinstalled. Using USB cable that was shipped with the phone. USB debug is definitley on. Phone is definitely set to charge only. The device was recognized before when I did the P3 1-click.
Win7-64 bit recognizes the phone and the sd-ext card when I change to mass storage. I've tried to manually push files and same error.
adb shell command works. cd /data/local works along with the ls command of what's in those directories. Just won't allow a push.
EDIT: Well, I dusted off the old stone knives and bear skins and loaded up XP from the dual boot. Put the Moto drivers on there and Bam, I'm in. Guess my Win 7 64 bit has some old Moto driver bits floating around somewhere ... or perhaps just a bit of preanimate matter caught in the matrix. Either way ... 901 update has a few more minutes on its install. Thanks again.
i'll be giving this a try.
i used the 1click upgrade path (which don't get me wrong is AMAZING!) but i'm really, really surprised that there's no warning of loosing root access.
5.9.901 does seem to have fixed ALOT for me though and i know i'll have root again soon...
anyone using the one click coming from a version of 5.7.893 without the webtop?
I've seen posts of people without the webtop getting stuck in bootloops
Worked for me and restored Web top.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
I rebooted the phone when I got the error:device not found, and head no troubles afterwards.
I bootlooped when coming from 5.7.893 with no webtop. I flashed back with released & forever root. Then, BPS. Lost root at that put.
So, if you have 5.7.893 flash back to 5.5.893, then do realbbb's BPS fix and you should be good.

can't access rooted revolution, have clockworkmod, would like to unroot

As the title states, I rooted my revolution, but I can no longer access it via lgpnst or anything that uses adb, so I'm stuck. I have been trying to find something to update to v8 or v9 using clockworkmod (4.0.0.2), but it appears that everything being suggested requires me to have access with adb. No matter what I try, attempts to access through adb result in "device not found", or "waiting for device".
I did try a factory reset, which got me stuck in a clockworkmod reboot loop, when I used exitrecovery to fix that. If there is any sort of update or fix to be applied from clockworkmod, that would be great. At this point, I just want to get away from this ridiculous forced download and reboot process that just makes this device harder to use.
Any suggestions?
Flash a TOT with LGPNST, either ZV8 or ZV9, and you will be golden.

This is the hurdle.
Oops. My bad. Missed that and focused on the mentions of ADB.
Edit: Have you tried different cables, computers, operating systems (XP for instance), or drivers? Also, make sure there are no other instances of adb on the computer. I have read that can cause problems too.

You mean the OTA update? That can be disabled either by Titanium or a root explorer.

I have tried all of the drivers I could find, and all of the different cables sitting around my place with no success. Right now, I don't have access to xp at home, but now I'm thinking there might be something to do with the system I've been using at home (which also runs windows 7 x64). When plugging my phone into my work computer (which runs xp), I got a usb modem prompt. There may be hope if I use a virtual machine at home.
I haven't looked into the titanium backup or root explorer, so that will happen this evening. Thanks for the suggestion.
Score! Thanks for getting me to think about the system again. I removed all of the drivers, created another administrator user account, and then logged into it and connected the phone... poof! I was prompted! I installed the drivers, and then it appeared in lgnpst! A short couple of uploads, and I'm there.
Awesome. Glad you got it going!
