Hi SGS users,
Which is better for battery life?
Does both of them have issues?
More on Android 2.2 NoLed was the problem. And now, BLN in almost all custom firmware.
for me bln is the best way to see notification
+1
NoLED drains my battery ~10% more a day and sometimes it doesnt show notifications correctly.
BLN for me. The new one has setting so you can set how long it stays on for. Never had a problem with it.

I love this feature. I haven't tried NOLed to be honest, but I don't want to change anything
Tapatalk - SGS i9000
I really like NoLed as it have colors for different notifications (SMS - green dot, Missed call - purple dot), but I noticed that it drains battery. So wondering about the BLN.
Hi all,
BLN is a top priority for me, even if it consumes a bit of battery
Cheers
Hi this is very interesting topic to me, Im new with i9001 and I missed led notifications from HTC phones, im using NoLED right now, but i read that i need some BLN kernel to use this app? Is that true? Which kernel did you use? Im running stock KQ7 right now.
NWM... I see this is for oldie S phone thread... sry.
bln +1
BLN +1
As said before, it's almost on every firmware. NSTools can control it.
BLN, because the controll app is in nearly every rom

Mate i'd pick up semaphore kernel, seems pretty awesome to me
+1 for BLN, dont notice any significant battery drain, my phone can still last for days and it does exactly what i need it to, tell me at quickly at a glance if i need to check my phone.
bln
For me BLN

Hello all,
I have been experiencing some freeze-ups on FroyoMod 2.6.0 and was thinking of flashing CM7 RC4 by nadlabak.
If I do end up flashing it, is the performance any better? What about battery life?
Also, is "update-cm-7.0.0-RC4-0.08-11.04.05-Milestone-signed.zip" the file I will need to flash? Or is that only an update?
Thanks in advance!
RC4 is very good. You should try it. The best of all CM7 releases according to me. You apply it just like you applied Froyomod. Place the zip file in openrecovery/updates and apply update in AOR.
I cannot comment on battery life as i have had it only for a couple of hours.
So far so good! I'm liking the different customizations, not much different so far compared to FroyoMod, perhaps a bit zippier.
I'm having issues with the power notification widget in the status bar, it's disappeared on me, but it is enabled in settings. Other than that it all looks very good!
Cm7 seems to have many bugs...
So dare not try....
For froyomod, everything works well except
1. When someone call me, my phone would vibrate for around 10 seconds but with the screen still turning off.
It is nothing to do with the cpu and vsel i set,
The phone dialer and contact list are also very laggy
2. 3d games perform pooer in froyomod compared with shadowmod b3

Just reboot the phone....
Display settings gives me FC
Does anyone have FC when selecting Display settings? Seems to me was working OK right after installing but now I always get FC
EDIT:
Problem found and even partially resolved: issueId=478
I use Email.apk to get access to my corporate Exchange email account, which enforces some policy on my phone that should results in removing restricted screen timeout entries from the Display settings screen, it turned out that the translation files contains less entries than the numeric timeout values which caused an exception (index array out of bound) so I got FC.
A workaround is switching to EN_US language (EN_GB is affected too)
Thx to kabaldan

@James91, do you have any version of froyomod 2.6.x with working gps? I am surprised, why have'nt you mentioned here about it in your exceptions?
Experienced some auto reboot. OCed at 800MHz.
I am using cm7 rc 4.1....till now i am loving it......i never thought my milestone can perform this much....lol....try supercharging.....its the best.....

I'm experiencing something I didn't have before.
Applications gets closed instead of keep running in background when they get minimized for any reason, either if I press the home button or I get an incoming call.
An annoying example is receiving a call while using GPS navigation: after the call screen comes out the navigation software is closed and when I try to resume it, it will start as a new launch.
I've tried some search, and I understand could be something related to android memory management. But I'm not such an expert, and I don't see thing like this here in the SGS forum, which is (I think) still good enough as a device to be able to manage a call and a navigator both running together. Plus, I didn't have this before.
I'm on 2.3.3 JV3
Thanks.
Same problem here 2.3.5 jvs

I've only experienced this with games, I think it might be because apps/games are not optimized for Gingerbread
Well it seems I'm not alone.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Well if ypu arecrooted then flash semaphore kernle and then install semaphore tool.
Then change ram settings to mulitasking 32 mb from the semaphore tool app.

Did you change ROMs? Kernels? Anything? Somehow your RAM settings must have changed.
V6 Supercharger script can also accomplish the same thing, in case anyone needs a solution but wants to keep their current kernel.

Well, I can say this behavior appeared after upgrading to stock (official/kies) 2.3.3 (CF-root ed as the previous).
Honestly I can not state from what change depended from.
Anyway, just my humble point of view after facing that, this thing could open a nice discussion on android memory manager, and the strategy/philosophy above.

There is plenty of information regarding Android's memory management—on this forum and abroad—if you're interested in learning.
Did you upgrade from Froyo? If so, that would be why.

This means that Froyo is better in memory usage, at least for the SGS, I guess.
I simply didn't take care about that when decided to upgrade, thinking "SGS is powerful enough". Think I'll have to investigate.
Anyway thanks for all your support.
Hi All,
Since i am not allowed to post directly to the original thread to the great CM9 ROM from hei1125 -- Nova HD Plus v1.1,, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508492
I have to ask here who had this ROM and discuss our experiences.
So far i got 2 issues:
- the voice call is very light said the call receiver, could anyone confirm? is there a way to increase the volumn?
- Google map zoom with two fingers is pretty bad, not smooth as it used to be on CM7
Thank you.

For calling and internet related issues, I would always check baseband and RIL first. I'm using the 750 baseband (as suggested by the developer) and got the matching RIL with GetRIL from the market. I have no issues with volume. I'm not quite sure whether I can reproduce your Gmap zoom issue, but perhaps this is because we are still lacking some graphic drivers from nvidia. Just my 2ct...

Yes I did had a lot of troubles with baseband and RIL,,, i tried GetRIL for help with my the latest temsak Kang, where i had problem that sometimes the mobile network is disconnected while screen off.
I felt this new ICS ROM is much better related to connection, only the volumn is too low.
I installed RC3-6 and really enjoyed the ICS experience. The ROM is smooth and stable as advertised.
However some key features are not working i.e. camera video
and some minor things like no support for wired headset button which ruins my usual music listening routine.
I tried this with Ironkernel but couldnt get it working due to the low memory error.
Wiped and installed again without the kernel and this time it worked great, nice ROM. Only problem is I need TUN support to get my vpn working and the included CM9 kernel doesnt seem to have this enabled.
Any other kernels i can try with CM9?

as far as i read from the forum, Ironkenel is great for performance however many other problems like faster battery drain,, so i would stick to the standard kernel and wait for the features to be implemented... at the end, the kernel is still in a relatively early stage and i am happy with the stability we could get so far.

yes it is known that the video recorder does not work.
about the headset button,, i didnt tried, don't like the LG headset quality anyway

bootanimation dosen`t work since RC4, and circle battery too, I think

I offer a little Mod for CM9, it changes the color of pressed buttons from orange to ICS/CM9 blue, and the battery icons.
Since I use your rom, the mod works in your rom too So the question is, is there a difference between framework-res.apk and systemui.apk in RC4 and RC5
I have gone back to cm7 as I need certain features for daily driving but the Nova rom has me itching for LG to release their update ASAP and look forward to all the custom roms to follow. XDA developers rock!

After a full charge, without even touching it, it drains the battery quite fast! Also I've been on a full Charge and not even an hour of screen time and already 65%. And I've only been using Talk and the xda premium app.
My current rom is aokp_galaxysmtd_jb_build-4
I would most appreciate it if any of you would suggest different kernels or roms or something that could help me with this situation.
Get the BetterBattery Stats app from the market. It gives a much more detailed view on what is eating your battery. I had a similar problem and helped me out with finding a bad app running in the background.

Thank you very much, I'm going to try it and let you know.
EDIT: I used the app, and it doesn't seem like any apps are running in the background other then the default apps such as calander, google search, clock, etc...
Likely it's just my faulty rom (AOKP). I will consider changing it. Thanks for the help btw!
I am running DarkyROM with a semaphore kernel. Really fast and great battery life.

Make sure to also check CPU states in the BetterBatteryStats app. When not doing anything your phone should go into deep sleep. If it doesnt, you can check the Kernel Wakelock en Partial Wakelocks in that app to see what is keeping your phone awake.
PS: I'm using X-Bean 3.0 rom with Semaphore kernel 2.6.1 and very happy with it.
Hi guys, my girlfriend owns a i8190L and she really misses the led light that had her old blackberry, so I want to make work backligth notifications on her phone. Also, the battery life on her phone sucks and it's really slow, but she doesn't want to use a custom ROM. Which kernel that supports BLN do you recomend me? It has to work on a i8190L with stock ROM. By the way, will this work with whatsapp or facebook notifications? That is almost all my GF uses.
Thanks in advance.

Use this kernel, is for stock & in the description says, "Support for BLN (Backlight Notifications - Ready to use BLN Control)". Have fun.
my situation eactly, this is what im using, works for sms, missed calls and whatsapp. maybe other notifications, but thse are the only ones that i get. and you have to enable bln from the app after every reboot.
