Someone needs to put all these posts in order! and first of all establish a filing system! tags(well who puts tags?? maybe forced tick boxes) or brackets or something that will make it easier to find stuff!
That being said, can someone please point me to the official froyo for galaxy s? I cannot make kies work for some reason and I need to do it manually.
I have froyo but is either ****ed up, or beta, or something, cause it crashes like hell! Baseband version is I9000xxJP2
While you are at it, a guide on what is JPM, JP2, JP♥, etc is would be nice!
Thanks!
EDIT: I found one guide for installing 2.2 on the galaxy here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
Also try this website: http://www.samfirmware.com which has all the "official" firmware for Galaxy.
Still it would be nice to know about all the JP*versions...
There is no official froyo as yet. JPM and JP6 were briefly released earlier this month but they are by no means complete and still seem to have a number of issues. Samsung said that a new super fast official froyo release will be with us sometime in November. If you're brave enough you can try one of the releases available, I did recently, but I've gone back to JM1 that was supplied on my phone.
I know its an annoying and long wait but with any luck this will give Samsung the chance to get it right

Oh well, I thought the stuff they put up on their site was the official thing, and everyone is saying that they are rolling out froyo for the past couple of weeks...
it is VERY annoying, especially with all the good modders and coders that are around in xdadevs, and to be honest they prolly can build a froyo version much faster and cleaner than the "official" one....

Umm.. You do realise the modders here mostly take the Samsung code and enhance it right? Modding ROM's is a lot more difficult then writing/maintaining them (remember, the modders don't touch the drivers).
The situation does suck, but I actually respect many companies which delay releases more than those that don't. Because those that consistently deliver on schedule, often deliver their software with MAJOR issues (issues which may even require hardware to be returned for repair)
You can find here, on my PC:
c:\Users\Developer_007\.android\Froyo
FroYo for unbranded phones should be here early November. For carrier models Samsung have stated by the end of November. All we can do is play the waiting game. It gets delayed, delayed and delayed. Will probably get delayed till November, who knows?
Where you get information about november? Prooflink please!

Not overenthusiastic about Froyo.
Galaxy Tabs was released in Thailand a few weeks ago with official Froyo, played with it. The performance is subpar.

From what I've read there's a possibility the Japanese SGS is running slightly different hardware, has built in TV receiver and something different with the camera too

"We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed."

So, another month of waiting. Fantastic.
I'm curious if this will be also the case for the rest of Europe?
They just replied to a customer asking when in November and they said
We're releasing Froyo from the beginning of November and we're expecting all networks to have it by the end of November. The key benefits of Froyo will include Google maps with navigation, as well as improved browser performance.
In Singapore too. Samsung Singapore has said that they are almost done with the froyo 2.2 and it should be release on schedule! =)

Hi!
I want to update my Galaxy Tab, bought from Staples, in England. I'll do tomorrow!
I have read the threads here, such as " collection of Gingerbread issues " and also read many threads about updating. I have flashed my Nexus One, but that was good while back.
Does anyone have specific advice when updating via KIES in the UK or have had issues after the upgrade?
I want to take my Tablet on a trip next Wednesday and will be away for more than 2 weeks so a faster, smoother Galaxy Tablet would be a benefit for me!
Any advice much appreciated.
Ofiaich
I've had the tab since november and not yet had one update. It worked out the box and still does.
Kies says its the latest firmware.

Do yourself a favour and update to overcome 2.0.1 with the hermes core
its like having a new tablet. Night and day compared to Froyo
Also unless its changed in the last week, kies will still report your tab as up to date.
I find allShare to be broken in the default CPW firmware (JJ7?). I flashed to the latest XEU version but it wasn't without it's problems. The HIDDEN partition is causing me problems (as it appears to be too small) so I ended up hacking hidden.rfs out of the stock firmware to install it.
My thinking for changing off the CPW one it that when (if?) Gingerbread comes around will we have to wait for Carphone Warehouse to customise it? I'm hoping a generic XEU version comes along sooner.
thanks for your advice naivri
Not sure I am confident enough and will decide about that when I come back from Japan.
InetUID thanks for your post. I am totally confused about Allshare, XEU and hidden partitions, which makes me hesitate even more!
Off to Japan on Wednesday, so I will read more when I return!
Thanks,
Ofiaich

You mean the latest overcome ROM is seen by kies/samsung as official?
I did not experience that when I installed gold. Kies always states that it cannot be updated.
I want one of these big toys sooooooo bad..... but which one should I get? How do I tell them apart? All the Notes on Amazon or other websites just tell me N7000.... I love flashing roms... and over clocking my phone... most importantly overclocking and using the sixaxis controller app..... but you have like 300 different model numbers for flashing roms.... and certain roms only work with certain models... so which model number should I get? Or which model is the most compatable?...I really want an muiu rom or cyanogen.... miui for its awsomeness.... and cyanogen for pure speed...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I Suggest Galaxy Note N7000
all galaxy notes are the same at the moment, as far as roms go. that will change when at&t releases their note. you have a wait until cyanogen/miui though.
N7000 is the way to go (the international one), it will probably get the most development. The US market is a big one, but nothing compared to the rest of the world combined and the N7000 is the international model.
Hello guys...
I'm new to this forum and new to Galaxy Tab. 8.9 and new to Android system.
The tab is at home and I didn’t even unpack it.
I'm kind of a person that likes to explore and change setting and stuff.
The first thing in my mind now is to boot the tab and update Android version, as I think it comes with 3.0 version and I guess there was an update came on after that.
But from your experience as 8.9 owners and once you were new to it.
What things should I do to it? update what? Disable what? Charging maybe? Tweak sensitivity? [if there is a feature like that!].
What not to change? not to delete? not to disable?
Any tip will be appreciated and it will definitely be new to me as a person never had an Android device and leaving iphone soon for a Samsung device
Which tab do you have?

It is Samsung Galaxy tab 8.9, Wi-Fi.
Where to start...
An OTA (Over the Air) update is a good start as 3.2 is the latest and 4.0 Ice cream sandwich is on the way.
Out of the box, the Galaxy tab is very good without customization. I'd spend my time getting used to the interface and putting my main info on Widgets and syncing everything. There is so much to customize. You will soon learn what you like and what annoys. From there, you can look at some of the things you don't like and tweak. I would leave rooting till a little later just till you get used to things and ics is coming soon. Good idea to see stock issues first but Xda is a great source of info if you want to go down that path.

1) root it (see the XDA forum, it's all perfectly explained there)
2) install cwm
3) backup stock rom
4) install Overcome, or one of the two ICS roms
5) setcpu, auto memory killer, voodoo screen utility
6) have fun

Fyi the wifi version is only Android 3.1. There is no OTA update for 3.2. I'm hoping we get ICS soon but I'm not holding my breath.

That just shows what we already knew: one day. I just wouldn't hold my breath for it to come soon. I wish we at leased received 3.2 in the intern.
No need to be disappointed. Samsung's devs are running at full pace to roll out ICS for dozens of devices. I'm sure they're doing their best. ICS was just released a couple months ago!

I know it's not really quick and easy but don't forget manufacturers received early versions of the source around May (when it was officially announced). In all honestly I was mostly hoping for 3.2 since I've heard it helps performance but it would be really nice to get a date for ICS.
Strange. I am using a tab 8.9 wifi and I did get the 3.2 update OTA. Actually, it arrived instantly when I started using my device a few weeks ago.

Not actually strange. The US region (yes, Sammy releases ROMs in a region basis) hasn't received official 3.2 as of this day, but most of Europe has already, along with other regions (Asia for example). I really dislike how they manage updates. Thankfully we have devs on our side. I can't imagine being stuck with 3.1 firmware.

Does a changelog between 3.1 and 3.2 exist? I am also still on 3.1, and I have no real complaints... Plus I read some people had problems with 3.2, so I will wait for ICS.

If you are asking specifically for a Samsung changelog, then no. Good luck obtaining an answer from them apart from "improves stability and performance". Problems with 3.2 are mostly user error.

I received 3.2 two days ago (as a matter of fact when I bought and started the Tab) - I'm in New York and got it OTA. You have to be registered with Samsung in order to get it.
It makes a very large difference for the better in responsiveness and scrolling.

Thousand thanks for the heads up.
Hello everyone. I'm a casual installer of custom roms for my past few android phones, latest phone I did new install was for my Galaxy S2 i777 model to have Cyanogenmod 10.2 installed into it. Unfortunately my phone fried on me after some electrical issues at my apartment recently so I went ahead and got a new back-up phone until I'm able to afford a better phone in the near future. Luckily I ran my auto backup and have the latest files saved through my dropbox so nothing lost.
I went to get a cheap GSM phone and I got a Galaxy Exhibit SGH-T599 for $49.99. I like the features within it, and definitely a pretty powerful little machine for its price. I was able to root it with KingoRoot with ease, but I'm interested in installing a custom rom. Not much found through my searching. The closest I found were these links:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790570
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2713695
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2747476
I tried each one but none got installed correctly. I'm highly interested in having Kit Kat installed, but no support yet for this phone through Samsung and T-Mobile. I was wondering if anyone else also ran into the same problem that I'm having, and if there's a good custom rom that I can fully utilize? I would appreciate any help on this matter.
This forum is for the t679 exhibit, originally named the Exhibit II, now named Galaxy Exhibit. Yours is a Galaxy S3 Mini with a different name. Search for that and you should find some info on it.
