OK, I installed the new version (1.5) of TWRP using clockworkmod on my 32gig TP running cm9 nightly. I had the previous version of TWRP and clockworkmod and both were in my moboot menu (and both worked fine) before I installed the new version of TWRP using clockworkmod.
After the install finished I did a reboot and now my moboot menu doesn't show TWRP but does show clockworkmod in the menu. If I select the menu item labeled clockworkmod it runs the new version of TWRP.
My questions are;
1. can I use TWRP to re flash clockworkmod to get clockworkmod back into my moboot menu?
2. Can I or how can I edit the moboot menu so that I can change the clockworkmod menu name to TWRP or ad a menu item to get back the clockworkmod menu entry?

I had the same experience. Luckily did a backup before I flashed the latest TWRP. Just restored and now I'm back to what I know and love. I run my backups and recover from TWRP. CWM has been used strictly as an installation application for me at this point. If TWRP could handed the install duty, I would say I don't need CWM. However, many flashes from TWRP have erred out.

At least I am not to only one to see this. The problem is that I can not do my restore of the backup that I made before installing TWRP v1.5 becaue I no longer have clockworkmod in my moboot menu.

Hey guys,
Last night I installed ROM Manager and ClockworkMod Recovery on my Roger's Samsung Captivate and proceeded to watch some YouTube videos on how it works. It would appear that this app has made flashing extremely easy. Too easy one might say.
My question is: Is flashing via ROM Manager safe? Better? Or not, compared to the "old school" method?
Any feedback on ROM Manager or flashing in general for my i896 Captivate would be much appreciated!

I'd say Rom Manager is downright essential, but your mileage may vary. Besides the uber easy flashes there are a number of utility type things it does, not least of which is it gives us cappy users the ability to make nandroid backups.
As far as safe? As safe as any other method I guess. If you do your homework and the Rom's cook has his/her shizzle together (and most of them do.) you should be good using it to flash.
You'll find with some of the newer kernels that a modified CWM is actually replacing the stock 2e/3e recovery also, so it's not a terrible idea to get familiar with it a bit first.
Just some thoughts, hope they help.
Thanks for the reply dude!
Does ROM Manager automatically present users with the option to backup their existing ROM before proceeding with a flash?
I attempted to back up my current ROM with ROM Manager. It rebooted into a recovery menu, but non of them gave me the option to back up. Just wipe and reboot (can't remember the exact options). Is it possible the Captivate is no supported? How would I enable nandroid for Captivate?

You open the app and tap flash clockwork recovery, select your phone, and it will proceed to reboot into recovery mode. At this time, you move down to reinstall packages, and it will then load clockwork recovery. It is from there that you can make your nandroid backup.

What he said. It sometimes chokes on loading itself. It puts a file named update.zip on your sdcard. When you get to the blue menu (2e recovery) you select reinstall packages and it should load right up. Sometimes it will reboot and get stuck there again. Just do it again and it'll come up.
Yes, before you flash through rom manager it asks you if you want to do a backup. You'll find over time tho that you'll just go straight to clockworkmod and skip the whole rom manager thing. At least I did. And if you go to one of the kernels with the modified cwm in place of the recovery menu rebooting to recovery with rom manager will bring you to the wrong one. The modified has extra stuff like lag fixes and that sort of thing that the original cwm doesn't have.
Yeah. So far, I find it easier to just use ROM Manager to boot into Recovery and do everything else from there.
I like how it only presents you with ROMs available for your specific device. I look forward to the list populating for the Captivate. It's currently empty.

the very first time i did this clicked reboot instead of reinstall packages. (i have fat thumbs) now every time i do 'tap flash clockwork recovery' instead of rebooting it just says 'successfully downloaded clockworkmod recovery'. how am i supposed to reinstall if i cant get to the option to do so?
im using a rooted captivate.
"Reinstall Packages" is in Android Recovery. When you perform the action "Flash Clockwork Recovery", you are downloading update.zip (which is Clockwork). "Reinstall packages" will install that update.zip and bring you into Clockwork.
So for you nawlage, now you can select "Reboot into Recovery" in ROM Manager, and your phone should boot into Android Recovery (blue text). Once there, reinstall packages (you'll probably have to do this twice), and you'll be brought to Clockwork Recovery (green text). If for WHATEVER reason "Reboot into Recovery" isn't working for you, use the 3-button combo to boot into Android Recovery.
thanks a load. i had just read this... posted by big99gt:
After these steps you won't really have to "hack" your phone lol. Root your phone and download Rom Manager from the Android market...then have it flash a recovery (the first selection at the top) choose your device when prompted. Now after that finishes select "reboot into recovery" and as the above post states you may need to select "reinstall packages" (I did). Once that goes through, you'll see your new custom recovery menu. DO A NANDROID BACKUP of your current Rom as soon as you can....then (as long as your current rom isn't messed up, if its stock your fine) from there on out you can play as much as you want with very little risk of bricking your phone. There are others who can explain it better but your stuck with me till they chime in lol. Its a very easy process and nearly foolproof.

..and did just that. and it takes me to the clockwork recovery (green text). because of this i dont have to reinstall packages?
also, is the backup option in clockwork recovery (green text) equivalent to nandroid backup?
Once you are in Clockwork Recovery (green text), there is no more need to reinstall packages.
The "Backup Current ROM" in ROM Manager makes a nandroid backup.
very nice. two thanks for you. thank you.
So, I set up ClockwordMod via http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...m-manager-nandroid-backup-custom-kernels.html
I followed all of the instructions & booted into the recovery menu. I selected backup & it finished. I selected "reboot system now" & the Nook Color just rebooted right back into the ClockwordMod Recovery menu. I'm not sure what went wrong. I followed every step of the instructions perfectly. I've used ClockworkMod Recovery on my Droid 2 (via Droid 2 Recovery Bootstrap) without issue before.
FYI: I'm using the stock 1.1.0 Nook Color system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah there is a known Issue with Installing CWR to your Nook via Rom Manager while on Rom 1.1..
Which Versions of CWR and Rom Manager are you using? I thought that they fixed this problem in the newest Versions....
From my experiance with this issue you will have to uninstall CWR from the Boot Partition, and possibly completely wipe and restore the Boot, and inturn the whole system will need to be restored.

Thanks for replying I'm using CWR 3.0.0.5 & whatever the latest version of the Rom Manager is (can't remember off the top of my head). Would I uninstall CWR with adb? Would I then need to restore my Nook Color to the default system? Might you have instructions on how to uninstall CWR?

3.0.0.5 is the old one, 3.0.0.6 is the newest CWR, I think they fixed this issue, but Im not sure, I would check around before you install CWR to your boot partition again on your 1.1
Sorry I though that link I gave had that Zip and Instructions on it, but it just had the Link the Thread that has it on there... >_<
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
This link has a Flashable Zip that will restore boot, You will need to burn a CWR SD card and run from there.
if you have further trouble after that you will need to fully restore everything.

Thanks, I'm the process of restoring it completely. Kinda needed a fresh start anyways.
flashed to 3.0.1.0 and would like to get back to 3005. Anyone have any suggestions?
Custom nookie Froyo .68 emmc
Just wondering why you want to go back ?
First time rooting. OG Droid FRG83G Build.
NOTE: i assure you i've utilized search feature but would not be surprised if this has been covered before and i missed it. apologies and thanks in advance.
having issues booting into CWM recovery. i'll retrace my steps:
successfully rooted via superoneclick
market->ROM Manager free
launch ROM manager
flash CWM recovery
backup current ROM
placed project elite v6.5 zip in SD root
(no issues thus far)
attempt to reboot into CWM recovery to wipe and install custom ROM: encountered first issue
will only boot into stock recovery. after a few attempts, rebooted normally and launched ROM manager, clicked flash CWM recovery again and then clicked boot into CWM recovery and this time it worked!
my question: when i clicked flash recovery the 2nd time what did that do relative to the backup i previously created? does it overwrite certain files/settings? should i have created another backup that corresponds to the 2nd flash?
even though i successfully booted into CWM recovery, i was scared there was an issue with my backup so i chose to reboot normally. i then proceeded to delete the clockworkmod folder from my SD, unmount, launch ROM Manager, re-performed: flash + backup to simulate the 1st time.
when trying to boot into CWM recovery i get the same issue as the first time: stock recovery mode.
are there any issues with me clicking flash and then booting into CWM recovery if a backup was previously created?
Thanks.

As long as you can get into cwm, go ahead and flash 'install from zip'. I assume you have backups, if not, make one asap......
thanks for the replie. what do i need to back up please?

cwm will make a backup which you can then restore. I also use titanium backup. Also, read as much as you can here in the forum, it's one of the best ways to learn.
thanks, yes i reading everything and i have followed instal to the letter (from having no andriod os at all) ,however boot cyanogenmod option is not listed i get this
moboot 0.3.5
boot webOS
boot ClockworkMod
boot webOS Recovery
reboot
shutdown
and there is nothing i want to back-up at this stage unless i can bork up the webos stuff.

you might want to acmeuninstall, then do a fresh install from scratch.
Follow the instructions posted here and you should be all right.
thanks for you help, i eventually just went in cwm and manually installed, went fine and gapps did. dont know what happened on initial install but seems really cool now
thanks again
Evening guys,
so 2 days ago I flashed the Philz Recovery for testing. While I had the recovery on I flashed the latest Nightly of the Slim Kat Rom + Cyodak Kernel also for testing.
Ofc I backed up my files be4 doing so. Today I just recovered my backup, went to recovery again but the Philz recovery was still there. '''kk no prob i thought,
just flash the CWM Touch recovery again'' so I did, rebooted back into recovery mode and what happened? Instead of booting into the cwm recovery, there's
still the philz recovery. While in philz on the bottom left it shows "Philz Touch 6.48.4 and ClockworkMod v6.0.5.0" So no Idea what to do and it gets frustrating tho..
Thx in advance .
You didn't flash CWM again, or not properly, unless you wouldn't have PhilZ still.
well there's nothing much I could do wrong. Reboot into Recovery -> Install Zip from ext. SD -> choose the CWM Recovery -> Install -> Reboot into Recovery and CWM should be there right?
Also i've tried to restore the backup which I made be4 installing the Philz recovery. Backup was a success but once i'll boot into recovery it's the philz recovery again.
Backups do not contain recovery.
rly? Cuz my backup backups also the boot.img + the recovery. Anyway what am I going to do now? I've tried several ways, even flashing the TWRP as a zip, flashing via flashify or Rom Manager, no matter what I do I always end up in the philz recovery even when it says flash successfull.

You can use fastboot to flash recovery.
