As long as you can get into cwm, go ahead and flash 'install from zip'. I assume you have backups, if not, make one asap......

thanks for the replie. what do i need to back up please?

cwm will make a backup which you can then restore. I also use titanium backup. Also, read as much as you can here in the forum, it's one of the best ways to learn.

thanks, yes i reading everything and i have followed instal to the letter (from having no andriod os at all) ,however boot cyanogenmod option is not listed i get this
moboot 0.3.5
boot webOS
boot ClockworkMod
boot webOS Recovery
reboot
shutdown
and there is nothing i want to back-up at this stage unless i can bork up the webos stuff.

you might want to acmeuninstall, then do a fresh install from scratch.
Follow the instructions posted here and you should be all right.

thanks for you help, i eventually just went in cwm and manually installed, went fine and gapps did. dont know what happened on initial install but seems really cool now
thanks again

Reboot into recovery?

Does anyone know why we can't reboot into recovery in ICS ROMs? Seems there is no moboot.next file in /boot, I am assuming it has something to dot with it. Used to work in CM7 for clockwork mod recovery. I would love to save the extra step where we are forced to choose it from moboot or else it boots the ROM.

I'm pretty sure there's an extended power menu in the xron ICS rom (i.e. classicnerd) but I honestly didn't try to boot from recovery when I used their rom, so I don't know if it actually works!
Ya, it doesn't work though. Even if you were to try rebooting from recovery using ROM Manager or ROM Toolbox, still won't. It worked in Xron 2.9.1 whichever way you want to do it. Not sure what's different about CM9.

[Q] how can I uninstall bricked kernel V0.4 for cm9 alpha 0.5 ICS

I installed ics cm9 alpha 0.5 then I installed one of the bricked kernel v0.4 in my touchpad. noticed when I removed from my touchstone charger, it freeze so now I want to reverse it back to normal cm9. In order word, don't want bricked version in my boot screen and my wifi back. I don't know enough to work with adb. Can someone make a zip for me to do it in cwm or explain to me step by step with root or es explorer. TIA
You don't just "uninstall" a kernel, as a kernel is needed for android to boot and work properly. You just need to find the kernel you were on, and flash it through clockworkmod
I tried re do cm9 alpha0.5 with cwm but moot boot screen still show the mod bricked version when boot. I am so lost. The developer 'posted method to install and uninstall. Install is easy...cwm zip but uninstall is done thru adb and I do not know enough to do adb.

If u go to classicnerd.net , in the ICS betas section there is a .zip for cleaning moboot entries. You can try it then flash cm9 again.
I tried that zip but didn't quite work. It deleted the org boot cm9 but kept the bricked one. Well I was trying to roll back and keep all my settings. Thanks anyway.

Just wipe cache
in advanced wipe dalvik cache
in mounts& storage format system, then install cm9 zip again , your settings and data will not be touched.
If you still need to remove bricked kernel you can try this.
from preware install REMOVE ANDROID when u reboot ,moboot and any android files will be gone from boot.
Now you need to ACMEInstall the moboot zip, and the CWM zip only.
then from CWM do the three steps above.
i have done this with classicnerd ICS and my settings and data were still there.so i think cm9 should be the same.
i was like super pissed uninstalling it and you safe my day thanks mate

no boot and cm9 wont load

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. heres my back ground. I have installed CM9 on a couple HP touchpads. My other friend who had it modded already gave me her touchpad and it is having some issues.
I can pick through the boot menu between the normal options WebOS, CM9, WebOs recovery, shutdown, restart. I can log into WebOS perfrectly fine with no problems. When ever I try to connect to my win7 laptop it will not give me the extra drive.
I have tried to log into the CM9 mod. It will go to the start up logo and stop. It will not log in any further. I have tried to re install the cm9 but I cant copy over the new file. Can someone give me some direction with this?
Getting this to a new complete new partition as if it was brand new from hp. Is ok as well. I have tried to recover and it just re does the webos partition and not the whole device.
Thanks
~Geoff.
Do you have a working recovery option in moboot? If so just download, full wipe, and flash a ROM. If you don't I would return to stock with ACMEUninstaller and reinstall with ACMEInstaller3.

EDIT: SOLVED :D 10$ for whoever can help me with Cyanogen

I am currently running V20a EURxx the one that everyone was downloading a while back, via the lg suite hack..
I have installed the all-in-one root tool and "think" i have rooted it but i found it to be very confusing
Cyanogenmod 10.1 (the one that came out yesterday) is what i want. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2238040
so.....
What are the steps i have to take? I have rooted and done custom roms in the past but am still kind of a n00b.. Please help a fellow XDA member

You have the steps right there in the first post. I'll leave some explanations
You need cwm (clockwordmod recovery) first. The easiest way to install it is via rommanager https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.rommanager&hl=en. Use rommanager to flash cwm.
Once cwm is installed. Then proceed.
1. Place cm-10.1-20130416-NIGHTLY-p880.zip and gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip in to your internal sdcard
- Download cm http://get.cm/get/jenkins/25315/cm-10.1-20130417-NIGHTLY-p880.zip
- Download gapps http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
- Move the files to your internal sdcard
You need to be in cwm recovery for the next steps. To do this you need to power off your phone, Hold VolUp and Power Button at the same time to power on your phone. Wait till you get to cwm recovery console.
2. BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA with CWM Recovery
- In cwm console select backup. use vol+/vol- to navigate through the menus and use power button to select the option.
3. In CWM Recovery make wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache, format system
- These options can also be found in cwm
4. Flashcm-10.1-20130416-NIGHTLY-p880.zip from sdcard
- Still in cwm. Select Install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> navigate to where you put cm-10.1-20130416-NIGHTLY-p880.zip
5. Gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip from sdcard
- Still in cwm. Select Install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard -> gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
6. Done
- Reboot
I'm not an expert, but that is how I did it.

Actually, the first thing you must do is unlock the bootloader. For now, the only sure versions are EUR-XXX (and to be clear, it's not enough that you installed the Euro-Open FW, your phone must have the software identified as EUR-XXX - for instance, german sim-free phones will be identified as 262-000, even if they install Euro-Open FW, and they don't seem to be unlockable as of yet).
So, check the software version (at system settings -> phone info -> software information -> software version) and, if it's Eur-XXX or something similar, you can unlock the bootloader.
If you're using the all-in-one tool, you just have to follow the instructions on it's thread to unlock the bootloader.
Only then can you install CM with the method akosierwin provided.
Okay i followed the steps and installed clockwork mod via the rom manager...BUT!
If i boot into recovery it says: LG Security,ERROR boot image signature, 5 seconds shut down something something...
Whats that all about? thanks for the fast reply's!
you need to unlock your bootloader first
Yep, unlock your bootloader first.
Here are the steps for that
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2224020
Okay i unlocked the bootloader ( when im in the S/W upgrade screen it says unlocked at the top..) i have clockworkmod installed but i cant install anything... All the zips give: assert failed, status 7.. Now im in a bootloop. I can go into clockword mod but thats about it. I have tried other zips than the Nightlys from cyanogen but nothing works. WTF

In the general section there's a thread callled flashable CM 10.1 FIX P880 (or similar).
The status 7 error occurs because of a little line (p880 instead of x3 for device recognition).
Install the CM from there or try to reinstall CWM through ROM Manager (should be latest and working)
And don't forget the GApps (from goo.im or the thread with the fixed CM)

In the steps for installing CM, there is the advice to do a nandroid backup of the existing system!
Is it possible, after wiping and installing CM 10.1, to restore only data, so I would have all my Apps and Userdata back, or would this cause problems with CM 10.1 settings?
Has someone tried this already?
Is CWM after wiping and installing still present?

CWM ist still installed after CM 10.1 flash.
If you want to have your apps + data back install titanium,
though I don't really know about restoring a backup on CM
(but it's a different android so I think it wouldn't work)

Thanks, but I tried with Titanium Backup on V20a (after wiping and installing V20a over V10h) and not all Apps was correctly restored, settings of system, all the screens of Nova Launcher, the Widgets and their settings and many more was wrong or not restored, so I tried with restoring only "data" from CWM-Backup and it works perfectly...
Anyone tried this on CM 10.1?
Glad that it worked
Didn't know that.

Clockworkmod Recovery Galaxy s3 problems

Well guys this is my first time on the forums. My phone is rendered near useless right now. A few days ago, i rooted my phone via towelroot. as a friend reccomended, i installed ROM manager and flashed clockworkmod recovery. I backed up my stock, perfect ROM with CWM and decided to try installing cyanogenmod 10.3.1......... it wouldn't install. I even tried other apps like ROM installer. Then i came across the handy dandy Cyanogenmod Installer. This seemed great, i didn't have to do anything except click a few buttons on my PC. as i was ready to enjoy a new custom ROM, the following message popped up, "Root access possibly lost. Fix?". I was given the options of "No" and "Yes - Fix root (/system/xbin/su)". i chose the second one, and waited for my device to boot. when it did, it was stock Touchwiz Android version 4.4.2, just like i had initially. what's more is my imei and bandwidth version were both "unknown" and i my sim card was undetected. I decided that technology had gotten the better of my and i tried to flash my old stock ROM back on. i found the file in recovery mode but it kept saying "no files found" whenever i clicked on it. I tried the cyanogenmod installer again, this time choosing "No", resulting in exactly the same scenario. At this point, I would be fine having the stock ROM since i have had such bad luck with the "developer's world" of Android.......... PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Another note:
ROM manager now is telling me that CWM is not installed, yet it is present in recovery mode......

Have you tried installing some other recovery, like TWRP? You won't be able to install CM from it, but you should be able to install other roms.

follow the guide and replace your recovery easily. after flashing, what recovery you have flashed will be default recovery, i recommend philz, they are all downloadable in the guide

it´s the best if you also do a format of internal sd in recovery before changing the recovery, because sometimes there are some folders left of it in interrnal memory and you cant delete it, do that if this will be the case. but i think Philz and CWM use same folder, so if you flash philz it will be okay if im correct otherwise you can always format internal sd afterwards
Edit: dont use rom manager for recovery actions, use recovery itself, much more reliable
