Hello,
Now I am sure this forum gets it's fair share people completely oblivious to rooting and such. The issue is I have bought a Galaxy note and have had it for 4 wonderful months so far. It's unlocked, i.e not bound to a network.
2 months in I tried rooting my phone, and well it was very clear and simple (through the youtube video, linking to here). A month later I also got Kies to finally work and updated my phone kernel, unfortunately I had no idea that with that the root disappears. I went to try and get my apps to work in the university which have their own proxy setting to access the net (which I have finally gotten used to), the apps however do not work and thus the need for me to root my phone.
The query (I apologize for the long winded post):
I currently have the kernel version
2.6.35.7-N7000XXLC1-CL1003701
Ok so I am aware that I will be looking for kernels portraying the LC1 version when rooting, however it seems that there is no easy way of rooting (as the youtube video I watched) for my current specific kernel.
I just would like someone if possible to guide me exactly with what to do, do I really need to root my phone or is there a way to get apps to go through proxy without rooting again?
Also, how would I root my phone this time? What files would I be loooking for and how simple >.> are they.
Thank you again for your time,
I would appreciate any help, but I beg of you please keep it as simple as possible xD
You have updated your note with Kies, so you lost Root. Kies/OTa update erases root.
Anyway, now you have option is to downgrade
You can find any older directly rootable ROM from here N Root as you did it earlier.
After rooting, dont use kies/OTA to update.
just use same thread (as shown above) to find latest ROM, N update using CWM OR Moble Odin Pro.
wheres cwm?
Hey doc. I followed all your instructions and all is well but i was just wondering how do i get cwm back? I have updated the kernal and the phone is still rooted but no cwn (mobile odin latest update states that they have removed the inject cwm) so i was wondering if theres anyway to get it back? Thanks in advance

Hi guys and girls.
I've been frantically searching XDA for the last few hours for a definitive answer, but to no avail, so thought it's about time I just asked!
I have in my possession a Samsung Galaxy S19000, that will only go into download made.
Here's how it happened........
This morning, I was given the phone by my brother in law and asked to root it and upgrade it to a newer/better rom. When it was passed
to me, it was.....
Firmware: 2.2.1
Baseband: 19000XXJY
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
[email protected] #1
Build: FROYO.XXJPY
After a successful root and upgrade, the phone ended up like this...
Firmware: 2.3.7
Baseband: 19000XXJVK
Kernel: 2.6.35.14-g3088622
Build: CyanogenMod-7.2.0-galaxysmtd
The new Rom, as nice as it was, wasnt what he wanted, so he asked me to restore it back to it's stock state. I went into CMW and did a restore, but it failed, and now the phone will only go into download mode.
I've tried flashing a stock rom via Odin, but it got as far as the 'Nand write' stage, then hangs.
Kies doesn't show up the device in 'Emergency firmware recovery' either.
I no all is not lost, so I'm not giving up. Any help will be much appreciated.
:fingers-crossed:
Can you post the whole Odin Log?
Normally this happen when the partitions on the embedded multi media card gets corrupted for whatever reason, also known as the emmc.
Maybe it helps to flash the pit file to repartition.
To add.....
When the phone is off, it displays the 'phone and computer with an explanation mark triangle inbetween symbol', and Kies doesnt recognise it. When I enter download mode, Kies hangs at 'Connecting' for.....well..ever! So atleast I know it's recognised by my PC (ish) and it isn't completely dead :silly:
I had the same thing with the triangle a few months ago.
I just flashed a Stock Firmware with Repartition. Just be sure with Odin that you have ticked the right things Afterwards it worked.
Thankyou for you reply, and sorry for the delay posting back. God damn new user restrictions!!!

Christ that looks involved doesn't it! I think that be a last resort as it looks like I'll need to clear a day in my diary before I start!
For the moment you can ignore the second thread
Find a 3 File (PDA, Phone, CSC) Firmware ( maybe samifirmware.com ) , then download the 512 pit file for the GALAXY S! and the flash the Firmware with pit file and repartition.

haha no problem
I've been reading posts on this forum for about 2-3 hours now and I still have some questions.
I have a galaxy s advance with android version 2.3.6 and baseband version XXLK2
i48.tinypic.com/2rz78sm.png
I was planning on rooting my phone and then maybe installing a custom ROM on it.
But I couldn't find a rooted firmware for my region (BELGIUM). And I also couldn't find the stock firmware for my region.
Neither on sammobile.com and neither on samsung-updates.com
My first question is: can I use rooted firmware that's for another region or will this cause problems for me?
My second question is: can I use rooted firmware with another baseband version than XXLK2?
Third question: if the answer on the first two questions is no, how am i supposed to root my phone then?
fourth and for now the last question: what is twrp recovery, and what is it used for, do I need it to root my phone or flash roms?
Thanks in advance!

do you want to stay with gingerbread, or upgrade to jellybean?
because rooting and flashing is much tougher in gb than in JB! tell me that i can help you.
Hi,
I got the same phone / baseband version in Austria. Downloaded XXLK2 firmware from sammobile.com, used simg2img to extract system.img, add su binary (=rooted), made a new system.img with make_ext4fs and flashed with heimdall. Meanwhile I used the same procedure to root and flash the jelly bean firmware XXLPY released for the russian market. Therefore I guess you can also flash a different version of gingerbread.

if u upgrade to JB, root is a one step, 5 min process after which it takes a few more minutes to start flashing roms after flashing a new kernel with Clockworkmod. if u wanna start with jellybean, go here.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2094318(make sure u install the stock samsung rom first , then root then install recovery, then flash a custom rom) this WILL NOT void ur warranty
on the other hand rooting gingerbread is incredibly complex. if u wanna do that go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985199
its totally safe to flash anither country firmware using odin.then root the supported firmware. also this will void your warranty,
then to install a new kernel with TWRP recovery , go here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119
then finally choose the custom rom u want Jetmod or supressed and flash using TWRP(assuming you know how to atleast nter download and recovery mode!)
do all this in the same order.

So what i'm going to do is:
1. download JB and install it
2. Root
3. then install twrp recovery
4. Flash a kernel with clockworkmod (which kernel do you suggest?)
5. Flash custom roms
Is this the correct order or am i wrong?

You can't install any recovery by itself. It comes with kernel. Only kernel with permanent recovery - CWM is ThunderZap now.
1. Download JB, flash it with Odin. - go again to recovery - do factory reset.
2. Root with root.zip from stock recovery
3. Install kernel with CWM (ThunderZap) with dd command in terminal editor
4. Flash custom ROM from CWM recovery.

Try wiping cache reset in stock recovery and problem solve
I've succesfully upgraded to JB, rooted and flashed kernel.
Any suggestions about ROMS for i9070 ?
Recently I used ODIN 3.0.7 to try and root my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Telia) 4G with a so-called "CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4".
It is the 16 GB, 2 GB RAM 4G/LTE version, and it was running at Android 4.1.2 when I tried to do the root.
The phone booted up fine and ODIN claimed it was a success, I immediately noticed that the phone had stopped recognizing my SIM card, and the Root Checker also stated that something was wrong and it wasn't rooted. so I download a stock ROM and try to install that, however when I choose the SD card to try and install it, it says no files are found.I had made it to the CWM Recovery tool on the phone, and I could start the phone that way ("Reboot Phone Now", but it still didn't recognize my stuff, so I tried following the stock ROM instructions I was given, and I wiped all data, cache and stuff after backing it up on my PC in the CWM recovery tool.
Now, at this point, the phone is stuck at "Downloading - Do not turn off target!". When I try turning it off, the screen goes black for 2 seconds, and then the screen appears again. If I am quick, I can get into the "ODIN" mode, where I can once again try and root it. It fails again, but now I get to the CWM Recovery Tool again, but no files are found at all, and if I reboot the phone, it just goes back to the Downloading screen (I left it on overnight and it stayed on that screen, by the way. I doubt it is ACTUALLY downloading anything).
I do not know the Kernel or ROM version. The phone was bought in the start of February, though, so I could imagine it's rather new.
What do I do now? I just wish to get my phone back to normal Android, normal everything even if it means a factory reset.
You need to goto the NV backup sticky thread in the dev section that I put together, look near the bottom.
Download the param binary and flash with odin to revive your device.

Hello again, sorry for sort of necroing.
So I got it running again, there is one nasty problem, though - The phone won't recognize my SIM card, meaning that it simply doesn't register that there is one.
I'd guess the phone warranty is void at this point, so what do I do? Is there any DIY fix?

I decided that this was due to the Google Apps on the phone being a newer version than the O/S (I have not factory reset). Kies would not connect to the device in this state, so i used Odin again to flash the stock UK Jellybean Vodafone Rom. My phone now boots, and most settings/apps appear to have been kept. However, some system apps, i.e. messaging, force close. I think this may be because the APN's etc are now on Voda settings. Unfortunately, 'settings' is also a process which force closes!
Basically, at the minute, I'm looking for a way to a) stop the force closes to manually change settings, or b) flash the UK unlocked JB Rom - I can't find this Rom anywhere.
Hi all. Hope somebody can help me.
I have an unlocked Galaxy Note, which has always run stock, up-to-date, Samsung firmware. Yesterday, I was attempting to use the satnav, and had the phone plugged in via car charger. The battery was low, and the satnav wouldn't connect to GPS. In the end, it became unresponsive, and I reset it. Now, the phone will only boot as far as the Samsung logo. Additionally, when it is charging, it doesn't show the bar climbing the battery - only the status (currently over half full).
I can get into recovery and download modes, but I'm really wanting to avoid a full reset/wipe, as I have some texts which have great sentimental value (yes, I know, I should have backed these up).
Other threads which are similar seem to point to Odin and an earlier stock ROM - I've downloaded the original ROM my phone would have had and Odin, but want to know 1) is this the best way to go and 2) what do I do next?
Thanks.
Flash the stock ROM again with ODIN.

...and now, when I have rebooted, I get a yellow triangle with 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue...'
Have retried Odin and received a pass.
Now, the phone is trying to run setup wizard, but is crashing/force closing a number of processes. Might this be because the stock Rom is too old?

Further update. I have reflashed again, this time with the JB Vodafone Rom. Previously I was on the unlocked UK Rom, but I can't find this anywhere. I'm now able to get into the phone, and the majority of things work, but some functionality is missing. I've tried to force an OTA update, but now the phone says its running the most up to date software. Any ideas how I can go back to the proper Rom for this phone?
This is the proper ROM mate, may not be the one you got with your phone but still the stock ROM. Or else you can search for the ROM you need on sammobile.com
Do hit thanks if this helps!

Well, as per update in O/P, I'm back in the majority of things, but certain system processes force close when I open. The phone registers on the network, and will make voice calls, but I can't access messaging (force closes) or APN's (force closes). So cannot text or connect to mobile internet. Have tried wiping cache, but I'm now running out of ideas.
Did you check sammobile.com? Or dr.ketan's thread in the original Android Development forum? Try flashing some other stock after a full wipe..
I used the only UK JB Rom in Dr Ketans thread. Have not checked sammobile yet - need to do this later.
I'm not wanting to do a full wipe until I can access and backup my texts - trying to install without wiping first.

Good news/bad news.
Firstly, the original problem of my phone stuck on the Samsung logo is fixed. My full sequence of events was 1) flash stock Gingerbread rom using Odin. This gave me a phone which would not boot due to Google processes force closing. 2) flash stock JB rom from Dr Ketans thread. This gave me a phone which booted, but could not access APNs/messaging, although all other settings/apps/files were still intact 3) flash stock JB rom from Sammobile (CPW). This gave the same problem. 4) Perform full factory reset and reflash JB CPW rom. Phone now has full functionality, but has lost all files, messages, apps etc.
Thanks for everyone's input - thread can be closed.
A full wipe mostly does it. And always backup the important stuff. If you're gonna root, Titanium backup is the best. And mate do click the 'Thanks' button if i helped!
Don't forget. do a backup of your current rom! if ever there might be a problem at least you can still jump back to it!!!
Currently using my first android device! Samsung galaxy note 3 for att and I decided to root it. I am currently running 4.3 but want to update to 4.4 in hopes of fixing some gps issues i've been having. I tried to use ODIN to load up the stock 4.3 firmware but have been encountering some errors. My phone no longer turns on, when it does it says "firmware upgrade encountered an issue" please select recovery mode in kies and try again. I have downloaded keys 3 and tried to recover it using that but no luck. Am willing to post screens or answer any questions you guys may have!.
Are you on 4.4.2 or 4.3? If you're on 4.3, have you tried the MJ5 restore posted in the general section?

Im on 4.3. I've only tried using Odin and kies which have both failed me. what im about to try is "androidrootz.com/2013/10/how-to-unrootunbrick-at-galaxy-note-3.html".. can you link to your suggestion?
I'm not sure how to copy/paste links with Tapatalk, but if you go to the general sub form for the AT&T Note 3 on this website it should be on the first page. Look for a thread titled "MJ5 restore and optionally provides root" or something along those lines. It's a somewhat long process that can be intimidating at first, but if you read the directions and follow them exactly you should be good to go.
