It has nothing to do with where you are, but what your CSC tells Sammy.
Anyway, don't accept this new update because you'll lose root.

what does that do?

Don't be lazy, do a forum search.

i dont understand, the stock roms have locations but the CSC is something different
basically i want the most up to date stock rom with the best CSC for the UK

[Q] Flashing to Stock version firmware from CM7

Hey all,
I have some questions pertaining to the flashing of my Galaxy S. I'm currently running Gingerbread 2.3.4 on CM7-NIGHTLY-42, Baseband I9000XXJVK. I'm planning to install a stock version firmware from samfirmware. The problem is, the only regional version that has 2.3.4 support is the European one.
So my questions are,
1. Would it be ok for me to install the European version stock firmware (I9000OXAJVQ) eventhough I'm outside Europe?
2. Would there be complications arising from installing stock firmware outside my own region?
3. What are the appropriate steps to install the European stock version (I9000OXAJVQ) from my current CM7 NIGHTLY ROM?
4. Will my existing CWM get replaced by something else or what?
Thank you in advance.
Regards.
Hi, below is the method for instaling a FULL PDA to you're phone(it's quoted from rahulrulez guide for MIUI), if you follow this steps you will flash with a stock firmare by you're choice(in the example below is the froyo PDA but you can use any).
Edit:
- To answer your questions, about if it's ok or not... I don't have an answer but I don't see any problem working with any firmware....
- My advice is not to use a stock firmware because is not running smooth at all... try another custom rom if you don't like CM7
Flashing Froyo Base -
1. Unplug Galaxy S if it’s connected to PC and Switch it off completely.
2. Put your phone in Download Mode (Power Button + Home Button + Volume Down)
3. Open Odin 1.7
4. Click on PDA Tab in odin and select Select GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar as PDA
5. Select 512pit as PIT and check re-partition tab.
6. Connect your phone to Computer’s USB Port.
7. Now hit START Button.
8. After successful flash, your phone is on Froyo 2.2 XXJPY with Froyo Bootloaders and Speedmod Kernel

I don't think there is a problem in flashing an European firmware eventhough you are outside it but do not forget to flash the proper modem for your area or you might have signal problems...

For those who want to flash the latest ics rom from GB rooted rom., Please follow the instruction provided by DR.ketan, I did follow his instruction completely and ICS loaded with rooted.
I would not say the given instruction will 100% work to all user since we might not know what really mess up with your personal storage after flashing rom and mod so many times.

I'll be interested to know if upgrade works with mobile odin. And also if root can be kept this way.
BTW, downloading too.
Is it multi-CSC?
Thread in General, poster said mobile odin from CM9 -> root achieved! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25911144&postcount=89
Careful, people. You might not be able to revert to any other Rom if you flash it straight away.

I'ma try flashing with Mobile ODIN and EverRoot. Should probably work.

Rare firmwares ? Other questions too...

Hi
First of all, I come from the Archos world so Samsung is a bit strange for me.
I live in Morocco and I run an old firmware. It is rooted with zergrush and has got CWM and mobile odin. My GN is now on KK2/KK5/KK2 and it aqked me to do an update : LA1/LA4/LA1. I tried through FOTA but it failed in recovery (well at boot). My first questions are about this firmware : should I do it by kies or will it be the same? Does the update deletes root? (then could anyone tell me where to get the firmware to flash in ODIN) Does the update wipes data partition or resets Android (as in deletes settings accounts apps)?
Then I would like to get the ICS update as soon as it gets out. Does it require the update above? I tried to get info about it on Sammobile.com but I can't manage to find my product code in any of the firmwares (MAT - Rare?) but I see that there is another update for Morocco (product code FWD). Then same questipns as above : can I flash it through Odin directly?
Sorry for my bas English and for the noob questions as I'm not used to the large number of versions firmwares.

The reason the update fails is probably because you're rooted and have CWM installed.
When you update through Odin you will lose root. The easiest way to update to an official rom is by flashing a pre-rooted firmware with Odin from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
You can pick any rom you'd like. You can find the LA4 update there but you can also flash LC1 which is a newer version.
After you have succesfully flashed with Odin you have a rooted firmware but no CWM yet. To get CWM you need to download a separate package from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18978158&postcount=1
Scroll down a bit to section "2. I Want ROOT + CWM" and download the appropriate package. If you chose to flash LA4 then get the package for LA4, if you flashed LC1 then get the package for LC1 etc.
Extract the package you downloaded and execute "already-rooted.bat" and CWM will be flashed.
After that you have an updated and rooted firmware with CWM recovery.
Thanks for your reply. So basically I just need to get back to a stock rooted and then reinstall CWM?
But then I will still have the issue when updating to ICS right?
Ps : I see the LC1 version but it says France. Will I be able to flash it? (then maybe also the ICS after because the France and Moroccan have the same version LPY or sonething)

That is because 2.3.6 is not direct rootable. You need to follow Dr. Ketan's guide to achieve root...

This what you need to follow:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29756030&postcount=2
You have to flash a pre rooted firmware in ODIN PC and the from there you can flash your current firmware with a CF-Kernel with Mobile Odin your kernel is listed in there. Just read carefully.

If your plan is to update to JB you can do that straight foward and then root by flashing philz kernel. That is way easy.
Thanks guys for everything!
