I recently installed the JPK froyo firmware. Somehow not all paid apps are showing up ( most of them are visible) .. I know there is a program like the eris marketfix and SGS toolbox can also fix the missing apps problem .. What I am wondering however, since both fixes set a value in the build.prop to a known 2.1 identyfier, will the froyo only apps still show up in the market if I apply such a fix ?
Anybody can help me?
Would love to help you. I installed JM8 today using Code and Modem files only, Market was not working as it kept saying download but not actually doing anything. Long story short I discovered that when you flash the CODE you need to flash MODEM and CSC file all at once, so I found a CSC and did it. Now market works. Don't know if it helps you though, try flashing froyo beta again WITH CSC file this time. also clear ya cache/data too
Thanks for your answer. My problem, however is a bit different . Android market is working well adn I can see and download paid apps but ...not all of them I have bought abduction world attack and pure calendar widget ( so they are available in my region) but after flashing the JPK firmware they are not visible anymore in the market ..I am affraid that if I install the eris market fix my froyo apps ( adobe flash , new gmail) won't show up in the market anymore. ..
Edit:
Solved the problem myself. changed the fingerprint in the built.prop to JPH and everything is visible in the market
is anyone building a froyo rom for i896 captivate from rogers, there has been alot of problems with people flashing to at&t roms and failing to restore their original stock rogers rom. This is the only reason keeping me back from flashing to an already available 2.2 froyo rom. I know nothing about linux, programming or any of that stuff and was wondering how difficult it would be to build a rogers 2.2 froyo rom or are there pieces missing to build it?
look at this tutorial:

i dont see how it could be THAT difficult to take the at&t leaked froyo rom and make the necessary adjustments for the i896 captivate. I just dont want to lose my GPS function (its working very good) and i dont want the annoying AT&T splash screen

If you know nothing (your words: first post), then how can you gauge the difficulty of doing such a thing?
I just helped one of my friends load the 2.2 AT&T i897 update, working fine on his Rogers i896. Soon as Cyanogen release something for the Captivate we plan to be updating him again.
At this point for the GPS to be fixed I'm pretty sure we need the source code or atleast a rom from ATT that it works 100% correctly with.
The cognition roms for the I897 work fine on the I896 -- thats pretty much how I've had my friends Rogers Captivate running froyo since launch week. You obviously have to load your own APN settings and whatnot though.
PS. Probably best to use the rogers modem file -- it's in the I896 thread.
Lots of people are running or have tried there. I do have some build prop changes and apn changes for the rom but until I have my friends phone back here to test them I don't want to share something that could very well just bootloop. Plus I want to try cognition b2.4 on there and adapt the changes to that since that just came out too.

you get the drift , its nto complicated , its just we need someoen we same interest as us i.e a candadian dev or a bored US one
btw I use all the roms and I just flash our rogers modem on top of it so my gps is perfect
well one of the main reasons i want to flash to a 2.2 rom is because i have read that it improves battery life and fluidity of the OS, i could possibly live without flash 10.1 and the use of installing apps on my sd card for a little while.
I'm on my 7-8th charge right now, could be slightly more and my battery life is average at best. Had it running 2 hours before i went to school, fiddled with it a little (a little music, a little browsing, testing out GPS functions) then tested out the GPS using Ndrive to school. During this time i had some ocassional 3g use (<10 minutes), about 20-30 minutes of wifi browsing, and about 3-3.5 hours of listening to music. I also used the gps coming home to test out its accuracy and functionalities. By the time i got home my battery was red.
I've calibrated the battery also, and used several guides to help improve battery but nothing that i have done has made any dramatic difference. I was thinking maybe a 2.2 rom could help with that.
Sorry, i m very new to Android phone ~~~
I wanted to flash my i896 into Froyo 2.2
but so far, looks like there is no way to get off ATT split screen at bootup right ???

It's been hit or miss with that keeping the gps fixed (depending on the phone -- i flashed 3 -- and what it was coming from or what the user was playing with -- mostly different cognition versions). The key factor there seems to be doing a wipe even after a fresh reflash, then it seems to work well consistently. Thanks for the feedback on it. I don't have a captivate myself so it makes it impossible to do any realworld testing on my own.

Yeah I'm too nervous to do much digging around there -- I think the first one is being kept along with the bootloader. Some other folks on here were trying to sort that out. The second part of the bootscreen is easy to change. I think we're going to be stuck with the ATT one until we see something from Rogers (2.2) or someone does some very tricky and potentially dangerous work. I just wouldn't worry about it for now I were you. In theory most if all damage you'd do could be repaired with ODIN but definitely don't quote me on that.
so far my flashes have been pretty rough.
I came from a nexus one where i could just load the .zip file and install easy as pie from there. This bul**** odin flashing drives me up the damn wall, but i can get it done, I have had this phone for a week and have tried many roms. I tried going back to stock rogers and it was a complete fail. When odin flashed back to rogers, i still had the stupid att logo, but whatever i dont see it all the time, and it would randomly try to download things from the market. Tried reflashing, and the same thing, except 5 mins later and the market just wouldnt download a damn thing for me. I dont have a reason for this but whatever.
I have tried going to stock i897 att rom and my phone will not boot, it just just a boot loop, so i cant even go to perception build, so i had to odin flash to cognition 2.2.
So far I am pretty happy with it... battery life is better than stock, no lag, it comes pre-rooted, but my signal isnt strong like when i first got the phone on factory stock OS. I want to flash the modem files only but i havent been able to find the files or the instructions how to.
I am thinking of going back to the nexus one, but am willing to make this phone work for me. Only one more thing i dont like about this phone, is the camera! Out of all things the camera kinda licks a sweaty nootsack.
i896 i897 i9088
I think i896 is the same as i897。You can use adb to enter download mod, and use i897's rom. In china, we have i9088 wich is Chinese captivate. It can also use i897's rom. No Bug, no problem.
I've browsed and searched around but not having luck, partly, I suspect, due to a lack of knowledge. Also, most of what is out there is for custom roms.
How can I get CWM to work on the Stock KB1 ROM? I have found a method to root, and get it to sideload, but I'm not finding how to get CWM working.
I presume it is 3e or something. Here is what I have tried:
1.) I put the update.zip that I've been using for quite a while on it.
2.) I tried using ROM Manager to set it up
In both cases I get the E:Failure....errors.
This should work I believe

Gave you a thanks.
I also found it at this thread. Good to go.
Now I just need to be sure I flash CWMs that won't mess up my 2.2. Lot of stuff is for 2.2.1.
What are you looking to flash?
CM7
I've been using Serendipity for quite a while and love . But given enough time, I always end up losing auto rotation functionality. Flash back to stock always fixes it. So, I'm going to try to get KB1 as functional as I can.
I have finally got it rooted; installing non-market apps; and CWM working.
I am about to check on a Dena theme I had used, but expect it to not work, given it was on a 2.2.1 rom. Maybe I'll be surprised.
I also want to get the Circle Batt mod. I expect I can achieve that with the UOT Kitchen.
I have also just applied a Beta Kernel,, so making progress.
Not sure what else I want to flash, but want to be ready with CWM, which I am now.
I Flashed Supersurio's KB1 + Voodoo Kernel. After that I installed CWM using ROM Manager.
If you are looking to get CWM working on 2.2, this seems like the easiest method and you end up getting Voodoo Lagfix as a bonus!
So I hate my Samsung Galaxy S i9000 but only because it doesn't work. IF it was working I would love it a lot. The phone is rooted and I am running Vodafone's standard version of Froyo if such a thing even exists (no custom rom).
Now I have read about Odin and different firmwares but I am still VERY lost. I don't even know if any custom firmware would do me any good.
So here are my problems:
My Galaxy S is laggy as hell even tough I have installed lag fix.
GPS doesn't work AT ALL. I have installed pretty much every silly GPS app I could find on forums and in the market. I also entered a bunch of silly numbers yet the GPS is wrong by like 500 metres. Sometimes it gets VERY accurate if I run GPS Aids but google map instantly "fixes" it in just 1 second and screws up badly again >:C
If I take pictures with the front camera they will get displayed once I reboot the phone
and so on. it's completly buggered and I don't know why.
------------
So will a custom rom fix this kind of stuff? will i get working gps with a custom rom or are those gps apps supposed to fix my GPS which they don't at all?
Do custom roms force a loader on me? I like TouchWiz.
Can I still use Gmail and other google apps with a custom rom?
Seriously I am pretty confused and don't know what to do since September 2010 but I never brought up the curage to ask / thought I might figure it out by studying forums but I am still terribly lost.
If your phone is playing up that much I'd think a custom or different stock rom would be the your best bet. I remember when I got my phone it was horrible in terms of stability and lag etc etc, since I've started flashing different roms I haven't looked back, of course you lose your warranty though. I think most of your problems are probably software related, though they could be hardware(gps /camera). To pick a rom your either looking at Froyo or Gingerbread, then do you want a stock(many newer stock Samsung roms are fairly good in stability and performance) or custom(modified stock roms), then you can go picking from there. Read up lots before you flash on what things are(Kernels, modems, clockworkmod, download mode, odin etc) and then if you are confident go for it. Don't hesitate to ask anything
Reading and learning are the key, as stated, my recommendation is to explore the ezbase roms and easy Odin as a great and easy start to rom flashing, and dont be afraid to ask,

thanks a lot for the help.
If I set my phone back to factory reset will it jump back to 2.1 - the OS the phone came with or will it STAY at 2.2?
to be honest I personally believe the rom won't get touched if you do a factory reset so I will be stuck at 2.2. i have called samsung and they said it would jump back to 2.1. now i don't believe a single word samsung says.
IF I can always go back to 2.1 I could try Samsung's 2.3 - see if that does me any good and if that doesn't work I will jump back to 2.1 and root it again and use a custom ROM. I have already rooted it and used a one click solution which exists for 2.1 and 2.2 (i forgot the name of it but it was some orange icon with some arrow in it).

2.2 or whatever the current rom is .
suggest one update to Froyo 2.2.1 its the best . 2.1 is very laggy
no custom rom can fix a broken gps if it is broken
remove lagfix before flashing any rom .
Possible best fix would be to wipe phone via factory reset losing all data
Via Odin install Froyo 2.2.1 with pit 512 and repartition checked .
GPS hardware thread fix may help .

so
1) the samsung dude told sh*t when he said it would jump to the firmware the phone came with (just as i had assumed)
2) froyo 2.2.1 is more stable and better than any build of gingerbread? i thought gingerbread was a great battery saver and overall really nice
3) so with the gps problems i have stated it sounds more like broken hardware instead of software? i could still give the phone back but from everything i have read on the net GPS is just buggered on the galaxy s.
like i have said with GPS aids it will work fine (gps aids will give me a PERFECT location) but once I jump to google maps - google maps will automatically "correct" the positing which will be way off.
4) sorry for that stupid question but i don't really understand "Via Odin install Froyo 2.2.1 with pit 512 and repartition checked". What exactly is "pit 512" and what does "repartition checked" mean?
sorry to ask
Go to ezbase thread and there you will get instructions with screenshots of how to use it, and all the stuff you need to download, and you can then flash either a slim rooted 2.2.1 or 2.3.3.

I was able to get my gps working real good after flashing to stock gingerbread 2.3.4. I am rooted but did not feel like going through all of the steps for flashing any roms so I searched and searched and finally was able to fix it.
This is simple for those with clockworkmod but for those like me that can not use it this was successful for me. Also, I cannot take credit for any of this I am just providing a simple step by step for those who want it, since none of this fix or even the grouping of files was done by me.

I believe that with clockwork you can simply flash it but I cannot use cwm so I can not say for sure.
I was unable to rename it to update.zip and install it so i manually moved the files to my phone using root explorer.
first i replaced the gps.conf with H3llstorm's
so copy and paste the gps.conf in the /system/etc folder to your /system/etc folder on your phone.
Than I copy and pasted the vendor folder found in /system to my /system folder...../system/vendor did not exist.
After that I rebooted and went from 88 seconds to lock on 3-6 sats, but unable to maintain a lock while driving, to 9 seconds to lock and maintain a lock on 7-9 sats. I tested it on a 30 min drive through local and highway roads and it was constantly locked on. I stopped it at the end restarted nav, relocked quickly and came home with it working smoothly, I also purposely veered off course to see how it would react and it quickly re-routed.
I think the big change is the gps.conf, that h3llstorm made, good looks, and am not really sure if the vendor folder does anything but it worked so i recommend trying it anyway. The 88 seconds i was referring to was also with the gps.conf file found at
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-gps-quickest-fix-solution.2022/
It did not seem to do anything for me. This is not really a question but I am relatively new here so I cannot post a thread in the development section. I hope this helps anyone that does not want to flash anything more than stock gb.
I like the idea... the question is do we have to have 2.3.4 stock? Or will it still work with a 2.3.3 modded rom?

He took the fix from Dlev 4.2 which is a modded (reoriented) rom. If u ask if it's for stock cappy based roms only, I would say it's not. Stock roms come withOUT any gps aid and so it's hit or miss thing, while in modded roms the chefs usually have a fix backed in their roms. I'm guessing that's y he pointed out that the fix is recommended for those who are on stock, but no matter what rom your on feel free to experiment.
Sent from a captivated SensatioN
Yea he`s right i just said stock because i assumed the rom would have it preloaded, from what ppl have told me its worked with every version of gb regardless of rom or not. Also i was alluding to the fact that i with stock cant use cwm.
