Anyone working on a root for Zv8? - LG Revolution

New Revo won't work with A I O, can't stand the bloat someone tell me please. Is anyone working on a root for this POS update.

oh im sure
im sure MT is on the job, but im sure a lil donatin to him would motivate him a lil.... but yeah anyway the thread "keep root through zv8" or whatever is still the only way that the general public knows about... but im sure u already knew that.

I figured as much about MT, (your the man) but i ask because my old revo worked fine with his AIO and maintain root method, but the new one i got that came pre-loaded with Zv8 wont, even after flashing several times back to zv7 and so on.
If you're readin this MT i am to poor to donate money but im willing to be a guinea pig. lol

There is something you aren't doing right even if on ZV8.. You can downgrade to ZV7, then Root only with the original AIO, then create the local.prop file then download the update, then use the 2nd AIO to maintain root, install CWM, then Broken Out.

I'm inclined to believe you because aio worked the first time but then zv8 would fail to regain root and install cwm it would say failed to find path, then flashing back with .tot to zv7 and even doin a factory reset back to stock and trying again now aio won't even root zv7 it just says failed to find path and runs through real quick, if you have any suggestions I would appreciate them.

And by the first time I mean I flashed back to zv7 rooted, flashed maintain root then ota updated then zv8 aio would fail

I have tried many processes over and over again and can recall once the first all in one wouldn't root my phone. I just did a factory reset then after reboot ran the lg-setup then flashed the v7.tot again then was able to root only after that reboot.
If that doesn't work, I don't know what will but good luck

Yah tried that, no luck, well see what mt comes up with. This is a new recertified phone and it has some wierd usb issues, everytime I reflash I have to reboot to be able to use change usb connection, plus now when flash tots I dont lose phone settings like I used to,

i have money!!!!

Money is something I have, root, I do not. It sounds like MT is the man when it comes to rooting. I would be glad to make a sizeable donation thru pay pal if I knew it would go directly to helping me game root access for my lg revolution running zv8.
See I would do the downgrading option everyone is talking about but those methods are only for pc ( I mean those download files ). I run a mac.
But seriously, I would love to have root. I used to use an iphone and was always jailbreaking. I love having that type of access so any help would be awesome!!

That means nothing. I flash TOT's all the time and never loose settings or apps.
As for MT developing a root process for this phone, while I appreciate all the work he has put into this phone and his skill set, what he does and what root exploiters do are two entirely different things. MT is just gracious enough to create easy to use AIO scripts for everyone to use. I do not see a new root process coming unless another exploit is found and works on this phone.
If I am incorrect about this then MT can feel free to correct me.

+1 For root all I have found is the exploit for keeping root through the update. As for writing a fresh exploit, there are a couple of guys that specialize in it. Jcase and djrbliss are 2 of the best around. The only problem I see is that zv8 has 0 access to the data partition without root, and so what other partitions are blocked. That is why the spectrum version does not work right off of the bat.

nevermind, just had to push cwm through adb still don't know why aio zv8 failed oh well im good now, and mt thanks for debloating and debingin. lovin broken out

Well I THINK I have found WHY I cant OTA ZV8
OK. I have found somthing interesting. I have 2 Revos. BOTH are now in test mode for reasons I am to embarrased to go into. (dang Noob screwups)
ANYWAY I was playing around in LGNPST last night and discovered the Warranty Date (assuming Expiration) on one phone was 4/4/12 Ironicly the same day I unbricked it using the Phonebook emergency recovery. (what puts the the phone in test mode. )
BOTH phones are flagged in my Verizon account (VZW online) as NON VZW Phones. (even though they originally were)
I am starting to think that when you do an emergency recovery you flag not only test mode but the warranty date & some Verizon flag as well. So while the phone is functional ALL Verizon support goes Bye Bye (I.E. OTA updates) EVEN if you flash back to Stock. I know that none of my old Not so smart phones will update past the Warranty date, I suspect this might be somthing similar.
Can anyone VERIFY this? I can SEE the potential problem but my skills stop there. (for now.) Can anyone tell me how I might be able to dig deeper?
I'd be happy with a rooted ZV8, let alone broken out, at this time.

I dont think anyone has figured a way around test mode yet except flashing back to zv4.
If it doesn't boot after flashing .tot:
1. Pull Battery and replace
2. push power and down until you get option to wipe
3. press power to confirm and reboot.
you will be stuck in zv4 and any flashing forward after that will put you back in test mode but at least you will be able to use your phone like normal until someone figures this out, but from what I read it appears improbable.

Yeah not looking good. Test mode I can live with it's the other issues thats killing me.

If you downgrade to Zv7 so you can root install cwm and eventually get to rooted Zv8 you will not lose anything on your phone if you do it correctly.
Just Flash the Zv7 Tot and use mt's AIO method, (stopping short of broken out)
if done correctly you will lose nothing.

[Q] To root or to wait for ICS

Had OD and loved having it rooted. (My sister's bf helped me. I'm more or less a newb) Had to upgrade to Bionic and while I love it am missing root.
I've been searching online and between info about root and the upcoming ICS update I am getting confused.
Should I root now and wait for ICS? Or wait for ICS then root?
It seems pretty likely that there will be ICS based ROMs available long before Motorola gets around to releasing an official OTA update.

You need not be rooted at all. If you don't know exactly what you're doing, you should NOT be rooted because you WILL brick your phone.
If you really want to be rooted, you need to do some research and get more familiar with it, what it's for, how it works, and what it can do to your phone.
You probably want to be pretty familiar with ADB too.
I am running the most current unreleased patch 5.7.893 and have not really read what I am really going to gain my rooting. If someone can tell me what I would get that would be worth rooting I will root. but running stock OTA roms specially the 5.7 has fixed most of what was wrong with the phone. I would if I was you just patch per instructions on here rootzwiki.com/topic/8562-easily-upgrade-to-57893-keep-root-and-webtop/ to get the fixes unless someone says there is something well risking rooting

If you are happy with what you have on your phone now, you shouldn't root.
Better to not take the chances.
Oh and...it takes a lot of manual coding to root for you now because the 893 kernel blocks all One-Click-Root programs from working. You have to do it all manually now, and you have to go back to 886 before you can root again anyway.

Yea I understand about going back. I had to go back just to get the webtop working in 5.7.893. I did the incremental one and lost webtop. used the R3l3AS3DRoot_Windows_V2.1 to go back to the 886 then used the single file update to 5.7 and everything works great. I would probably root if I could get free wifi hotspot so I could use my XOOM thru my phone cause I don't want to pay the hotspot or extra for more 4G bandwidth for my XOOM since my phone is unlimited
I didn't brick my last phone. Rooted all by myself. BF just pointed the way.

Even if you did do it by yourself, if you don't know where to go from there, I wouldnt do it.
Its fun seeing the ROMs that are put out but unless that tutor is available I wouldnt do it. Bricking your phone isnt cool.
Rooting really isn't that big a deal once you have some idea what you are doing.
I have had 3 rooted phones and have rooted/jailbroke/hacked just about every other electronic device in my entire house at one point or another.
Do your research, and make sure you follow the instructions. Of course it also helps if you are familiar with ADB and a command shell so you know what the commands you are running actually do too.
Oh, and wait for ICS? C'mon you know XDA will have that at least 2-3 months before it get's an OTA update. [this is fact] <-- don't hold me to that.

Exactly. Motorola will have to start all over with Blur, that is gonna take forever. Rooting a phone with a decent developer community will always mean you have access to the new toys well before the OTA updates.
At the OP, You should have also ran the 43V3R root when you did R3L3AS3DRoot. I'm not an expert on android software and rooting but when I had my X2 I did some minimal research and haven't ran into any problems. When I got my Bionic I rooted it within the first 20 min of getting it. The tools that Dhacker put out (R3L3AS3DRoot, etc.) are amazing and rather easy for someone who is less experienced. They also make it nearly impossible to brick your phone as you can just run it again to get back to stock. Not to say you should just rush into things with reckless abandon.
If you do some research and read EVERYTHING that a developer provides as a guide to flashing their ROM, mod, hack, etc. you'll most likely be ok. Just do everything in small steps. As to your question about ICS though, do like I said. I know it's a pain but backup all your apps and run the R3L3AS3DRoot again, but then also run 43V3R root and intall Cheesecake. All of these can be done with the same tool. Then flash the 5.7.893 update and bam, you have the latest version and your still rooted. You may have to reinstall Super User from the market though.
As far as how useful having a rooted phone is, it all depends on what you will actually take advantage of. One of the simplest things is to just flash a custom ROM and enjoy the changes the developer has made. Liberty is top notch and I would reccomend it to a "newb". Personally I am quite satisfied with stock and would rather customize everything to my own personal satisfaction. If you go that route there are still great things out there. I'm using the V8 Supercharger script and ROM toolbox. TBH I'm not really sure what I'm doing with scripts but there was a good guide for the V8S one and I would highly suggest ROM toolbox. You can use it to install custom fonts, boot animations, download and install custom ROMs (though I think it only supports liberty (haven't tested it)) freeze or uninstall bloatware apps. Basically it's about 10 or so apps in one and it's very user friendly.
Wow this is getting way longer than I planned so here's the:
TL;DR
Do research til you feel comfortable. Read EVERYTHING any developer gives you as a guide. Don't rush into things. And looks at all your options. Rooting gives you access to a few neat tools and hacks to get everything you can out of your phone. Just keep R3L3AS3DRoot handy and you have a very low chance of completely bricking your phone. Also as a disclaimer, I'm not responsible if you completely wreck your phone.
Edit: Adding some links to helpful reads.
FAQs, highly recommend.
List of all ROMs and most tools, etc.
UOT Kitchen, very user friendly way to theme your phone. PM me if you want to use this because there are certain things you must do and things you cannot do.
Hope I have helped a bit.
R3L3AS3DRoot and 43V3R Root were easier than expected.
I say go for root that update is a few months away anyways just make sure you know what you're doing.

[Q] Cannot figure out how to root phone AAAARRRGGG!

OK. I started out this adventure to root my phone because I want to use it as a wifi hotspot for my Ipad and not pay AT&T $50/month for that "privelage." I can't figure it out!!!
Phone Info. - Samsung Captivate with Froyo kb2 build. It has the 2.1 adroid when I got it then I updated to 2.2 through the Keis program when it was available.
Before anyone starts with "read and search" lecture, I'll tell you that I've been on this site for a combined 9 hours reading and searching and nothing seems to work. I've tried one-click root programs, I've installed a rooted version of my stock ROM, Ive downloaded more apps, files, or software programs than I can remember. I know how to get the phone into download mode and I know how to boot into recovery mode, but nothing works. Everything seems to come back to the 3e Recovery I have because when I think I am almost there, I get a failed signature error.
I tried the 3e Recovery Mod and that didn't seem to do anything. Is anyone out there willing to help me through this? I am not a programmer, and I don't have any android experience whatsoever, but I can follow direction and am willing to learn. Everytime I find a new thread I seem to get more confused because I'm unclear on the jargon being used, or the thread is on a different ROM or phone so I don't know if it will work. I know "brick" is a bad thing so I don't want to do that.
I any of the experts had my phone what would you do? Do you need more information from me? Also, once I get this figured out, I'de love some recomendation on a better, faster ROM to install.
ANY HELP WOLD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED. Sorry for the frustration.
When I was on the Official Froyo 2.2 the first thing I used to successfully get root was this... View attachment SuperOneClickv1.6.5-ShortFuse.zip
This version was the only one at the time that would work. Extract it and run the SuperOneClick application. Be sure to have the usb debugging on.-- Menu /Settings /Applications /Development /then check the USB debugging.
Hmmmm.....very odd. Froyo is super easy.
Do you have Super User showing up in the apps drawer?
AND DON'T USE KIES ANY MORE FOR UPDATING !! YOU CAN BE IN FOR NASTY SURPRISES.
Been there. I'll try it again, but I think it still can't get around the 3e verification stuff. I'll let you know.
No SuperUser as of yet. I guess that is the point. Once I get rooted, I should get SuperUser status.

After u try the SuperOneClick from my previous post, reboot ur phone and then see what u have.
After nearly 9 hours of trying...I have cracked this thing. Turn out there were two threads about the 3e recovery mod. I tried the manual thread with no success. I just found this one that has a one click script to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Once I did that, I used Captivate One Click Root and presto....I now have SuperUser permissions. Sweet.
Thanks to everyone that responded to my questions. I'm sure I'll have more about ROMs and such.
^ Good deal. Glad u got it.
I figured I would be back.
Anyone have a link to a clear explaination on how to CID unlock the Captivate? A video would be fantastic, but I know how that goes. Also, is there a way to tell if it is unlocked or not?
Thanks

I tried that early on because it looked so easy. All I get is "Sorry, no codes found unknown error" Is there a way to tell if I'm CID unlocked or not? I haven't done that yet that I know of. I did click the unlock button is Super One Click, but it did nothing. By that I mean the program, nor the phone seemed like anything happened. Early on in this process I found the completly rooted version of my stock Froyo 2.2 and installed that on my phone thinking that it would root the phone. Later realized it doesn't work like that. How do I check the CID lock? I'de like to try one of these cool ROM's I keep reading about.
unless you are planning on running the captivate on another carrier, you dont need to unlock it.
I was under the impression that I needed to CID unlock the phone to flash any ROM not produced or signed by the carrier. I thought SIM unlock was what allowed you to take the phone to another carrier?
As you can see, I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm slowly learning.

CID unlocks do not apply to Samsung phones.
once you have a kernel that has CWM built into it, you can start flashing. nothing else required. you dont even need root if you arent planning on using something like titanium backup before you flash.
Cool.
So any recomendations on my first custom ROM install?
I tried installing a custum boot animation last night and had no luck. I used CWM to flash the file I downloaded, but no change. I tried to copy a new customanimation.zip (I think that's what it's called I'm going from memory here) but I don't have RW access to the System folder. I tried using CWM to mount system and then fix permissions through recovery mode, but that doesn't do it. I'm using Droid Explorer to copy the file but it won't copy. There is a customamination.zip file in system/media so I tried to rename it .zp and it won't take. I assume that is a permissions thing.
I guess I'll try Root Exploer from the market. People seem to be having luck with that.
you cant use a bootanimation.zip on a stock kernel. It just be enabled in a custom kernel.
Go read some more bro. A LOT MORE.
OK. so it looks like I downloaded a custom animation zip file, but I need to flash a kernel that allows me to use the anmation. I ran across a post about that so I can find it.
Was was confusing to me was the uploader of the animation called it "flashable" so I thought that was the kernel and all, but I'm now guessing that by flashing it it simply installed it into the system/media folder for me???
Still looking for any suggestions for my first ROM.

HTC VIVID Super User Problems....

So I am a new person and therefor can not post this in the development thread under the forum where I feel it would belong with the other root related questions.... So i followed the SUPER GUIDE to root my phone (Thank you so much Slapshot and PirateGhost, I was beginning to regret not getting a skyrocket until I found your thread). My super user is running into an issue I can not seem to fix.....
Maybe this is simple or maybe I really messed something up....
Basically none of my apps have root anymore (they did at one point and to my knowledge I change nothing...)
When I go to the Super User app to update my binaries and hopefully get any issues resolved I am greeted by the following error message in the update log: "Failed to find currently installed SU binary. Update cannot continue"
Is there a resolution for this? I have not found anyone even running into the same issue on the Vivid.....
A little nervous.... I didnt have near this many issues rooting my ATRIX and modding the living daylights out of that.
Have you checked with Root Checker Basic to see if you even have Root? If you didn't follow the Super Guide step by step your phone could have relocked after you turned your phone off/on.
If it still fails to update you could try SuperUser Update Fixer.
Yes I have check with root checker.
This may be a dumb question but how do I uninstall Superuser? When I go to the typical application management it does not give me the option. I have done an install again to overwrite the files and nothing changed there.
I followed the instructions step by step (though obviously I messed up somewhere...)

Interesting... maybe your root didn't stick. We had a little trouble with that before but pirateghost fixed the CWM ROOT zip. You have a working CWM Recovery, correct?
In the superguide, I have a second option for root in case the first doesn't work. In your case, go ahead and try the second option. The one involving the supertool. That should get you perm root. If that doesn't even work, then we might have to put you back to stock and go at it again.
EDIT: BEFORE TRYING THE SUPERTOOL, try flashing the new CWM ROOT VER2 zip from CWM recovery and see if root sticks.
Slapshot, thank you for checking the General Thread, I really do appreciate that. I have tried both methods multiple times since the root failure seeing as so many people said they had to run the methods multiple times to make them stick (this admittedly may be part of the issue). The most recent one has been the CWM ROOT VER2. Still no dice. Is there a method to remove and re install super user? Or am I reading into the error too literally and instead I just basically do not have root.

No problem. At this point I think you may just not have root... but first, go ahead and go into bootloader (power off, then power on while holding power and vol down). Does your device say unlocked?
*Just a clarification*
You have to unroot your phone to get rid of it Idk why I put uninstall/reinstall earlier...still out there from last night I guess.

Yes the device still says unlocked. That was one of the first things I checked... Haha....
As I said ive flashed the rooted CWM and it says it went over successfully.
If i use the Zerg exploit it still seems to go over successfully (I realize this has a tenancy to mess with internal storage and only provide a temp root but i do not even get that temp root).
How would I unroot my device? Do you mean flash to stock and relock my boot loader?
As I said I have flashed several devices in the past (Atrix, eee pad transformer, HTC Inspire, HTC DINC, SAMSUNG GALAXY S T-Mobile) but I am not completely up to date on all of the technical terms...

I will try this firs thing in the morning and give an update on how things went. I would try it tonight but lets be honest, its the 1st of the year and the last thing I need to be doing is messing with technology.....

It's no problem, this isn't a dumb question or easy issue by any means. If the method I directed to you doesn't work, let me know. There is another way to do it without all the code.

I haven't told anyone how to do it surprisingly, and I'm more than happy to help . I was honestly thinking about adding reverting back to stock to the superguide, and I think I just may do that. Here is the link. Pirateghost is the man.

Nice, I'm glad you were able to get everything working.

[Q] Error while updating from rooted zv7 to zv8 using Mt's AIO. Please help!

I'm baffled as to what I did wrong during the initial root of zv7 software. I can't unroot, can't recover, can't root to zv8 or upgrade. I'm using MT's AIO root app and just can't seem to understand. I guess there's a reason I'm a noob. this is what i get:
unable to open log device "/dev/log/main" no such file or directory
And then from there it won't add new root files, remove trash etc.
Revolution zv7 zv8 help please!
I would like to just have CWM and Root access on ZV8. On rooted gingervolted zv7. Please help! I will donate money if I have to! I understand a person's time is worth something!

You can't keep gingervolt as of right now, but I'm sure a vz8 gingervolt will be coming out. I would first make sure you take an image with cmw before you do anything with your phone.
I first rooted the the device like in the first thread about maintaining root from vz7 to vz8 thread. It worked after I got LGNPST working, but I still wanted CWM. When MT came out with the script, I gave that a try but had permission issues. If you have an image you can restore to pre gingervolt, I would try that, then use MT's tool to apply stock recovery. I had to run the tool twice before it would take and I didn't get anything puking at me and I got stock recovery. Make sure you still have root. I then prepare for update, update, then apply root and cmw.
If you don't have a pre gingervolt image, Follow the instructions to put the vz7 tot back on your phone found here. Then root only. After you have root, I would then prep for vz8, update, then root and install cmw.
If everything is successful, I would take a post install image with cmw.
Thanks a bunch. I will get to this tonight and let you know the results. I have confidence it will work. Since I'm a noob, it won't let me post an image, but I'll upload it to photobucket and hyperlink. Thanks again! PM me your paypal and I will throw some scratch your way.
I'm new to this also so it is some trial and error. Just keep working at it. No need to send me any money. If you want to make a donation, send it to MT, Spc.Hicks or one of the other developers who keep this phone going.
Here's where I'm at with the process.
Still rooted on zv7. Tried to do stock recovery (unroot with zv7 stock rom) but wouldn't recognize my battery or sim card. I am only able to run rooted zv7 with GV 2.0 in order to use all functions of phone. Unable to update OTA to zv8. The stock zv7 will not work, therefore had to flash GV2.0 with root. The problems I had before was sound not working, music player plays, but no sound, and when the phone was on and the screen would turn off automatically, it wouldn't turn back on. The buttons along the bottom would light up, but no screen. It was at this point that I had to return to rooted zv7 with GV2.0.
The Update Process
Hey I had a lot of trouble coming from MT's 2.0 V7 to V8 Root with Revovery. Let me see if I can help. This method worked for me. Follow it if you like.
1. First start from scratch using LGPST and V7 .TOT. Just follow the instuctions from the [FIX] Updated by accident? thread by hilong08.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211295
I did have trouble installing the .dll. Just run the CMD as an administrator to install it without errors.
2. Run the old All in one from MT to root your phone only.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348557
3. Once its rooted download terminal emulator from the market and do this
Type su and then enter you should see a "#". Next type echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop. It should create a file called local.prop in your /data directory.
you could manually do it with root explorer too.
4. Now wait for the Verizon OTA (over the air) update or manually search.
5. Now you should be on V8.
6. Run the AIO bat by MT to root and install CWM , option 2. I believe we manually did option 1 so theres no need to do it once on V8.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566729
7. You should be root with CWM. I thought I didnt install this right the first time after about 3 fresh installs over a period of 2 days. CWM is installed man, even if you dont see it, i had to use quick boot from the market to boot into revovery.
Another thing if your phone loses sound check your /data/local.prop and change it to local.prop.bak and reboot. I also had a problem and it was freaking me out.
good luck
Stop V8 notifications
If you want to keep your phone from trying to update while in V7, use root explorer to rename /system/lib/ libdme_main.so to libdme_main.bak; I renamed three days ago with no update notifications to date. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1236896.html
I'm still not getting anywhere. I'm back to root with gv2.0 with no sound. I'm just afraid to do anything else. Can someone call me or do a remote session? I'm ****ing retarded.
No no no. Go to development section and flash the v8 tot. Easiest way to get to v8

I'm actually considering going back to ginger volt 2.0. I really don't notice any differences on v8 except that I have a bunch of bloatware. I lost all the things I loved about my phone, like the number percentage on the battery status. now I have a huge E911 cross hair icon I can't seem to get rid of.

I hear you. I'm holding off until MT gets a new and stable Gingervolt released for it. My phone works just fine on V7 w/GV2.0. Why fix something that isn't broken?
Ok I finally got my phone back to stable working condition with gingervolt and root on zv7. Can someone tell me step-by-step how to stop the zv8 update? Were going to have to dig deep on this one. I'm shallow on my terminology, and have no clue if I even have root explorer, or how to use it. I really wish there were college classes on how to understand this stuff. I know it's linux based, but you really have to be passionate about this stuff to understand. If you guys wanted to know about bikes, I could tell you how to build one from scratch! To each their own i suppose. Thanks in advance for everyone's help getting me this far. I really do appreciate all your hard work.

Noobzilla,
Here is how another user took care of the update. Take some time and look through the development section here as well. I know there are some ways to move to the update and maintain the root as well.

Lot of us are waiting for MT to release GV 2.1 with V8 update. I was in your boat and planning to go back to stock just to see how V8 updates looks like. After reading the forms a lot of us decide to wait for new release. I would honestly suggest to wait for few weeks, stock V8 has so much bloat that you may not like it. I would suggest to donate to MT and other developers because they really rock. Just my 2 cents.
Darn i didn't know about ur service sold my Yamaha R1

Noob you need to get back all the way stock on zv7 so either use the zv7.tot file or flash the zv7 backup my has posted in the development section after you have flashed the zv7 backup your going to run the zv7 all in one and select unroot this will unroot and put stock recovery on your phone after you have stock recovery and no root your going to run Mrs new all in one to get you where you need to be I haven't done this yet so you may have to run the other all in one selecting the option root only then run the new all in one easiest way for help is getting on the irc channel you might have to wait a little bit for help but someone will show up. Also give thanks to mt for creating this all in one for you guys eliminating the need for you guys having to learn how to use adb but I encourage everyone to get the sdk and learn how to use adb as your next phone may not have options such as a all in one check out this thread in the thunderbolt forum on how to root unlock and install cwm recovery on it. It will really make you appreciate all the work my has put into making these all in ones the script doesn't know what to do until my has typed all this stuff already.
Here is the thunderbolt method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12159325 that's not exactly what's being done on the revolution but still a good read but imagine having to do all that to get root on your phone I encourage reading it as it will help you understand what's going on in a script that particular method was published by jcase who is an awesome exploit finder and this method includes getting temp root in order to flash an older hboot version allowing you to downgrade to a version that had already been unlocked and getting root there enabling you to get perma root and a unlocked bootloader and involves using a terminal and adb and will really get you comfortable with adb and appreciate all the keystrokes mt has saved you. *Also do not try that thunderbolt method on your revolution* I'm not positive what will happen but I am confident it will not be good.

Sounds like everyone is waiting for MT to push a new version of GV. I have decided to do the same. I used Root Explorer to change the file extension of the update file. I did this about a day after my last post on this thread and had no problems. Running GV and flashing Fusion as we speak on ZV7. Phone works great. Thanks for everyone's help!

LG G3 LS990ZVG: LG One Click Root Doesn't Work (Lollipop 5.0.1)

Maybe a thread like this has been created before, I don't really know, but I kinda feel like my case is a little bit different.
I wanted to try to root my phone, considering Sprint is literally doing no updates for the LG G3, which stinks but that's another thread for another day. Anyhow...
I've followed the instructions of trying to root this phone, making myself a developer on said phone, USB Debugging is on, plug the bad boy into the PC. I have the LG Drivers as well as the "One Click" root system. First issue is the one click installer doesn't find the LG ports ever, so I have to hold the Volume Up button to put it manually into download mode. I've done this multiple times now and not much has changed. When I do go into download mode, down in the gray box it usually shows the the SuperSU command in the box, but the numbers have changed multiple times. First time it said SuperSU27 on COM4 (can't remember the exact verbiage it used for the file name) the next attempt was 25 on COM3, 21 on COM3 and last time it was 79 on COM3.
While all of that is going on, I get the message that it is rebooting my phone through one click, which it isn't, it's still trying to supposedly download SuperSU, which, always sat at 0% and never progressed.
I've noticed that many people haven't been using ZVG to root their LG G3's. I would attempt reseting my entire phone completely scratch, but I don't really dig the sketchy sites that LG Flash is on, so I've never downloaded anything from them for that. Then again, I would like to avoid totally resetting my phone like that, because I'm not very fluent in phones like that to trust myself to do something that could potentially mess it up.
Does anyone have a work around for my issue or know what could be going on.
did you figure this out? I'm in the exact same predicament..

No I haven't. I have absolutely no experience at rooting phones, so it's basically something I can't figure out.
I've seen people completely reset their phones manually but I don't feel competent enough to try it.
I had an incident while flashing a ROM and had to use LG flash tool. I let the phone update to ZVG, but cannot get Root. Realistically, all I want is to be able to use wifi tether for now. I'm running into the same problem, the one click root is not noticing my device after i manually put it into Download Mode. Maybe it has to do with using Wimdows 10? Which operating system are you using? Have you figured it out?
ZVG is rooted!!

Well, I figured it out... Go Here if you're still looking... Do Method B, download the zip and go manually through it... Worked fantastic!
