Hi,
I am thinking about rooting my HTC Raider (Bell) X710a. I am, however, unable to find a simple enough method.
I came across this tool for the HTC Vivid (ATT) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003 And was wondering if I could use the tool on my HTC Raider.
If Not, Is there a super simple way to root my phone? I am really new to smartphones and am also fairly new to technology in general
Any Help would be greatly appreciated and thanked!
That's the method I used. I have the raider on rogers. I'm pretty sure it works for yours to. You have to unlock the bootloader first tho.
By the way that method is very simple. It doesn't get any easier in my opinion. Watch his video and follow the steps.

It won't say s-off even if you root the phone. You have to take certain steps to get s-off which is being worked on now. You should still be able to root your phone through wild child recovery. The option is there.

Go here, a video shows you how to root using the recovery.
Thanks and more

sir perhaps you'd be able to help me out since i got the phone from rogers as well. so i did try to follow this tool and watch the video, but to no avail, still im not able to root my htc raider
now the video doesnt seem like a step by step tutorial for me so i just did exactly wht he was sayin. now due to prev attemt before using this tool, i was only successful with unlocking my bootloader; so i skiped the part where i have to unlock it.
i was able to flash the CWM 5.5.0.4 and used the backup/restore to make sure if anything happen i'd be bale to restore my phone. after that i went straight to permroot, and all i got on the promt command was some adb stuff out of date. i assumed maybe i had to flash kernel first to make it work, but thats the part where i got stock on the htc white screen logo. im not sure what i missed; maybe you could help me out and give me a step by step procedure...
i could really use some help

Fastboot flash wcx recovery. Boot to wcx recovery. Then find the rooting option. It should work.

Security off or on. As far as I know, it lets you flash kernels from recovery instead of having to flash in fastboot mode with adb.
And my noobness gets worse.....what's the dif between a kernal and a Rom?

ok m still having no luck at all here, trying to find the ruu for telstra velocity 4g seems to be an impossible task. if there is anyone that can break this down into a proper guide for a Telstra Velocity 4g, that would be awesome.
dont just assume i know what you mean, although i have rooted a phone before, this htc one is rather complicated. i really need to get my phone back up and running as soon aspossible, thanks.
Go to the development section and look for the thread called(Rom) holiday shipped Rom collection and you will find it there to lock your bootloader the fastboot command is fastboot OEM lock

Hey mate I was in the same boat coming from the galaxy s2, Htc don't make it as easy as Samsung! Where are you up to ie have you got your unlock code from htcdev and got all the drivers/files from there to flash? If so go here http://www.filefactory.com/file/c41....09_34.20.701040.19_release_246698_signed.exe and download this ruu to your computer. After this as jerry said relock your bootloader by (connecting via usb, pull battery, replace, power+volume down, and then go to fastboot) go to the folder on your computer where you saved your unlock code and fastboot ect from the htcdev unlock and press shift and right click (mouse ) and open up a command prompt, here type fastboot OEM lock to relock your bootloader. After this run the ruu you downloaded earlier and follow the prompts on your computer to get back to stock telstra ics. Make you have plenty of battery for this as if you run out in the ruu your f*@ked!
Just to add the usual disclaimer of don't blame me if you don't get this right, i just want to help a fellow velocity user get the same enjoyment from his phone that I have!

Are there any custom ROMS for salsa which is rooted but S-oFF?>?
To install custom-ROMs you need S-Off or an unlocked Bootloader. What does your bootloader show (which version, s-on/s-off, **locked**/**unlocked**)?
Those ROMs come often with Root but sometimes you have to install Root access manually.

ROM's do not come with S-OFF, you make it S-OFF which isn't a good idea personally, i know this from experience. as i am S-OFF and have unlocked bootloader.

NO because that would be infringing the XDA rules(Search function or check other Salsa rooms)., and YES I'm sure or we wouldn't be sitting here with a custom rom and huge internal space.
My HTC Salsa touchpad becomes insensitive. some keys doesnt work occasionally.

Being fair, i request you go back into our general section and search for it.
If you don't know what root is, i'd suggest you find out before venturing any further.
But to flash u have to unlock your bootloader, and then flash a recovery program. Lots of guides in the main sections, use search if lost.
The guides were made by me and designed/written so a kid can follow it. If you get stuck in some places i can help you. But if you haven't a clue, read first then attempt it.
I'm always around, so if your desperate PM me or Email me via my profile. I am on Hangouts(Talk) also using [email protected]

Hello, i just need to root my phone to install some apps that require the phone to be rooted, do i need to unlock bootloader for that or just root my phone by installing CWM-SuperSU-v1.30.zip through recovery?
Thanks
For flash the file, you need a recovery, and for flash a recovery, you need and unlocked bootloader or the s-off ...
Use the all in one toolbox that will walk you through everything from unlocking, flashing tarp/cwm, and rooting
If you use the all in one you will lose all data on your phone. If you do S-off by revone you do not lose data. I did the all in one method myself, but backed up my entire sd card prior to unlocking.

Sorry but I didn't know of the Revone method until after I used the All in one toolkit. I prefer to start fresh when unlocking anyway. Gives you a chance to get rid of junk on your SD card. I haven't looked to much into the revone method but supposedly you do not lose data.. I would backup first regardless of which method you choose.

I have a couple of questions, which hopefully someone or some peeps on here can provide some answers.
This whole S-Off thing, just to establish once and for all does your phone need to have the following done to it just for this one thing?:
Bootloader Unlocked
Rooted
Clockwork Recovery Installed
SuperUser Installed
CID Changed
If so this seems like a hell of a lot of effort, just for this one thing to be done.
The other thing I have noticed, is that even though there are some good nOObs guides on this forum, it maybe an idea at some point in the future for some YouTube videos.
Thanks.

You don't need any of those to s-off. You don't need a video, although there are probably some available - just read the guide carefully: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582
