Hi guys, pretty urgent help needed here.
I'm on holiday at the moment so desperately need my phone to do anything and to contact my friends on the island at another hotel!!
I was using it as usual this morning, and then the next time I tried to turn it on I get nothing. So I pulled the battery and upon reset I get the boot animation (Rocket rom 23) and then a black screen until the battery is pulled.
I still had the zip file on the internal sd so I installed it through recovery. No success.
I've tried wiping the data and the system and installing onto a blank phone but still no success.
Starting to panic a little here, any help would be greatly appreciated.I have wifi access and a netbook if that helps?
Andy
Did you make a GB backup?
I know it's not possible to revert to your old GB backup when using any ICS ROM but I was able to restore my stock GB backup through CWM while using RocketROM (took me five tries though).. Try it, nothing bad will happen.
If you don't wanna try and can download some files then I recommend you to just put your phone in download mode and flash a stock rootable firmware through PC Odin.

@Sujal. Rocket rom v23 is not ICS. So he is still on GB rom and backup can be restored if he had created it.

@sujal - its just that restoring the ICS nandroid when being on ICS is giving glitches it gets struck at half so we will have to do cleans install till the time it gets fixed. LP6
Oopssss! I'm sorry, confused it with team rocket's ICS ROM. :/

hi there,
first off, im sorry for being a total noob.
i was trying to look for a full guide to install Criskelo ICS ROM v2.
i found an online guide from the site rootgalaxynote dot com
but its for the older version.
i was wondering if i can do this step but install using the V2 or follow the steps, install the older version then use clockworksmod to load v2?
once again, please accept my apologies as i have never touched an android in my life.. im so new, my note is still in the mail and i havent even received it yet.
Go the the development section find criskelo v2 and follow the instructions in the first post? Why go to another site when the instructions are right here

From GB:
Install ics repack by chainfire via mobile odin-reboot-reboot into revovery-full wipe-install criskelo ics.

so before i run the steps above, i should install clockworkmods and titanium backup to backup my current rom and apps rite?
then i download the ics repack by chainfire and the criskelo v2 mod
then install mobile odin and install the mod?
Very simple as ABC.
First you use PC odin and flash a single file called chain fire repack.tar
This ROM is already rooted.
Boot up and install triangleaway1.25.apk
Copy your ROM to SDcard
Reboot to recovery using the CWM app in Your note
Wipe data.factory reset wipe the other one below the list. I forgotten the name
Wipe devalik cache from advance settings
Install the zip file called Criskelo or any other ROM from Sdcard.
Once you are done reboot and enjoy your new rom.

This does however increase the binary counter thus voiding warranty. By taking some extra steps you'll be able to upgrade to any ICS rom without increasing the binary counter.
What I did was I flashed one of the pre-rooted roms found in a thread in the dev section. After that I flashed the CF Root kernel for the rom I installed (I used the pre-rooted LA6 rom so I used the CF kernel for LA6).
Now you have full root and CWMR so you can flash any rom you like. For ICS roms, install Mobile Odin, flash the ICS LP1 repack, reboot to recovery, do a full wipe and install any ICS rom you want to try.
Pre-rooted stock roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
For CF-Kernel check step two "2. I Want ROOT + CWM" of this thread and download the appropriate files for the pre-rooted kernel you flashed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360

To my knowledge Triangle Away only does exactly what is says, it will remove the yellow triangle after you've flashed a custom kernel through pc Odin and thus having triggered the binary counter. To my knowledge Triangle Away is not able to reset the counter though I could be wrong as I've never used it myself. There is however a thread explaining how to remove both the triangle and reset the counter using a usb JIG: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888
Counter is reset
using triangle away does reset the counter as well as removing the triangle also says your rom is samsung original even if it is not!.
you must use the correct ics version to do this one that does work is I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK worked just fine on my note. It does not work on all current versions of ICS. enjoy
Thanks a lot for the info! I really didn't know and I thought I read somewhere that it didn't reset the counter.
does the triangle away work for GB phones? just wondering
No

Other way you could try
Hi, maybe you already flashed, but this is how I did it. No problems at all.
Starting from stock GB. (Or you can flash stock through ODIN)
Used CF-Root to get Root and CWR on the phone.
Downloaded and flashed Abyss Kernel 4.2
rebooted recovery
flashed ICS ROM from sdcard.
Worked perfectly well for me.
Hope this helps.

As soon as you flash the rom, abyss kernel will be overwitten (you get CWM).
Now a piece of advice, there are great risk on flashing any rom based on leak repack, there is an issue with the kernel and the eMMC, which basically can fry your phone (if you are unlucky).
I personally decided to flash back to stock GB.... just in case. I'm not willing to gamble with my note, but that is me.

So I came from ICS stunner to stock ICS WITH cf-root kernel using mobile Odin pro, it's working fine but it's not nearly as good as stunner our even rocket ROM v23....basically with all the scare stories about bricking when using cwmr to restore or wipe, etc should I wait for something new our just try to restore my backup?????
Any advice greatly appreciated thanks

As of now donot use CWM.Avoid it completely.Stock ICS with root doesnot make any problem. Its the CWM which causes bricks...If you need, you can flash the rom again using mobile odin with inject su,ever root, and inject mobile odin options ticked but donot flash cf-root kernel.
In genneral, just dont do anything in the recovery, cf or stock. There is one possible brick case from wiping in stock recovery. If you want to be safe, use PC odin to flash back to GB and wait for futher clerification.

That's not correct. At least one user hardbricked when doing a reset from stock Recovery.
I was in the exact same position as the OP.
But, and there is a capital But - I never used CWM.
I recovered using PIT and a GB Stock ROM.
Edit: Sorry posted in the wrong thread - Was so excited because I recovered my Note.
Thanks for the feedback
Thanks guys,
currently running rocket lpy v1, just flashed over stock ics with no wipe, all running fine now, may give stunner another go - not really finding much benefit from samsung only junk.
Thanks again, loving the note, loving the forum and loving the diversity - never get tired of my mobile again!!!!
I can't get my phone to boot into the ROM, it only boots into CWM every time. Even if I restore my Nandroid backup I have it still won't boot into anything but CWM. .
Any ideas?

what rom are you trying to flash?
I was on MIUI Mintberry but then I tried flashing DMORE3.3 and it just messed up. Was not paying attention to what I was doing, stupidly enough.
But I wouldn't mind just getting back into my MIUI MB ROM and then I'll actually flash DMORE properly this time.

I really couldn't tell you, not familiar with miui, but you can always try,
I have the same issue here. I was running CM9 nightly and everything was working great for weeks. Then my android core process crashed and I decided to reboot the phone, but it got stuck and kept boot looping, i.e. not even making it to the CM9 boot animation and not allowing me to get a logcat.
I used ODIN to flash FixRecovery.tar.md5 and that allowed me to get into CWM recovery. I then cleared Dalvik cache, re-flashed CM9, rebooted but the phone always boots into CWM and never gets to the ROM. I even tried flashing Semaphore kernel in ODIN and re-flashed CM9 several times but to no avail.
My phone just keeps booting into CWM! Is there something I can do to fix this without having to restore to Gingerbread and lose all of my settings and data?
You can go back to the Original Firmware: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-flashing-to-original-rom.46/
Then you may root: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-i9000-rooting-gt-i9000-2-3-3-india-ddjv9.47/
I had same problem with a galaxy s plus. I've installed the teamwin recovery and with that i flashed the broodrom. After that i got in a bootloop/recoveryloop.. The fix for that was just flashing the bootloader with odin So there was no need to reflash whole rom

Wht i understand is you want to flash a custom ICS rom on your note.
First of all..
Get root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Stick with the instructions.
After doing this you will have root+cwm installed on your lovely note.
Now download Abyss 4.2 from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
Now download custom ics rom from android development section and put it in your phone sd card or external card.
Reboot into recovery.
Flash abyss 4.2
Go to advanced and reboot recovery.
Now you have abyss redpill recovery or touch cwm.
Do all 3 wipes. Cache, Dalvik and data.
Flash rom
Reboot system

Criskelo ICS v9 trouble
Hi,
I installed criskelo v9 on my phone just now..and titanium backup doesnt work..it says i do not have root permissions
now all my apps are on it and the phone is pretty pointless without it..
I tried installing abyssnote and franco kernel just to see if it works but the update gets stuck at "installing packages" and then reboots to system to the earlier settings..
the cwm i have right now is also not the touch version and my kernel is cf-root so i do not know if i should be reflashing criskelo directly on this to check for any difference..
PLease tell me what i need to do..I am lost and could not find anything after an hour of googling

1. Downloaded CWM and busybox and placed them where he said
2. Booted into recovery and installed CWM
After this the UI didnt change to the touch UI as he indicated but was still the button UI

Here the progress was stuck at "unmounting system" till the phone reboot itself to the system..And i still dont have root permissions as per titanium..

Hi, what i really want is root permission so i can use criskelo as my ROM..I was using gb (checkrom v6 with abyss) till now and thought of upgrading to ICS...if i get root permissions i can restore my apps using titanium and my problem wil be solved..titanium is currently saying i dont have root permissions and not restoring my apps...
Of course i will want to change kernels too to mix and match my requirements with battery life later on...
If your desire is to just get rooted, then download the Abysskernel touch zip file* : http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/...rnel/AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.zip
Saved it in your external SD card and install it using Recovery Mode
After that, your phone should restart and check after if you have SU(Superuser) and CWM installed. If you do have it.. Rest assured your phone is already rooted.

Thats where the problem is..i have tried installing that file multiple times..it gets stuck at "installing update" and reboots into the system..
Within the phone i already have CWM (as the app) in my phone but it says it cannot work coz i need cf-root v5 or newer for it to work...can i use the LRG file as given in this forum to change the kernel?

file name : CF-Root-SGN_XX_DBT_LRG-v5.6-CWM5 (i had chosen the LRG modem while installing criskelo v9)
Are there different kernels for ICS and GB and maybe im trying the wrong file?
Also right now all i want is the root..but i also wanna be able to rollback to gb later and try other roms as per my convenience if i dont like criskelo..so any guidance keeping that in mind for the future will b much appreciated

What is your current ROM now? stock DXLRG? if it is, yes you can flash that kernel on your link (using mobile odin pro). Try to check back after thru CWM if it still gives you the same message or not.
Yes, there are different kernels solely for ICS only and also solely for GB alone. Don't make a mistake in mixing a GB kernel to your ICS Rom or else your phone gets fried.

I am right now on Criskelo ICS v9..
The exact problem on my phone (id mentioned earlier too) is that its like its semi-rooted..things like cpuspy etc work..but titanium backup and moble odin dont..my main motive is to have titanium working so i can use the phone normally..
Now i see that criskelo has just launched v10.1 of the same ROM which has solved the semiroot+wifi issue..download is in progress and It wud be great to know how i can move on to that now..
Abyssnote kernel is not installing (stuck at "installing update" ) and as per my knowledge the phone isnt rooted (coz titanium backup and mobile odin dont work)..
Can i rollback to prerooted gb (i have this file: Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000DDLB2 - nonwipe gb ROM) via PC odin to initiate the whole process again under present circumstances?
Whole process here meaning *prerooted gb+abyssnote kernel+criskelo v10.1 install*..
PS - i did all wipes while installing the present ROM (if it matters)..
Yes, you have what we call it here as a semi rooted phone. Not getting all the permissions to access system files inside. It's a good thing though that Criskelo has a new version to his ROM and that should be appropriate in installing it.
Can you rollback to pre rooted GB? Yes you can. Just pick the appropriate GB ROM. And oh by the way bud, stay clear on fully wiping your phone... Remember your walking in a thin line here when your flashing Custom ICS ROMs...
Just a heads up, that's all.
Cheers!

first, let's tackle your second question. If your on Criskelo ICS now, please under NO circumstances, YOU DO NOT FULLY WIPE your phone before going back to the pre rooted GB. There's a bug circulating around the forum and it's called the SUPER BRICK BUG. It'll fry your emMC chip (on your phone) thereby making it as a dead paper bag. There are countless of folks here already that have succumbed to the bug. Most have returned their dead phone back to Samsung Repair for an exchange on the motherboard. That is how deadly this bug can sting your phone.
So stay away from it. (It's better late than never, mind you)
on your first question,
Use PC Odin to downgrade to a pre rooted GB one. That's it.
Cheers!

Did you get rooted installing busybox su? I think you have partial root.
Install busybox from playstore and open it. Press install button. It should be fine.

to check if you are fully rooted copy and paste in root / system...install busybox that helped me on ics roms then once your fully rooted flash a safe kernel ..dafuq , speedmod etc then flash new rom . dont do any wiping til on a safe kernel and read instructions fully
@All
Thanks for the your responses
This is what i did after getting some doubts cleared over here:
I rolled back to a prerooted ODEX gb ROM..and installed rocketrom for now..gonna use it for a while and check how people are finding criskelo v10.1..Once im satisfied with that gonna go ahead with flashing it..
Thanks again :good:
HI,
I just wanted to upgrade my 4.0.4 note to 4.1.2 with Ultimate rom, first step I've done was to do a nandroid backup from the app itself.
Than I wanted to put a "Philz kernel" so I transfered the Tar file only, from odin.
It was a mistake, now I hate miself.
Phone can't power on now, when I try to power on,
I see the "samsung galaxy note n7000" and underneath a big yellow "!" sign.
I can't enter ricovery mode, CWM works, download mode also.
Pc does recognize the phone but I can't browse it.
I think it was a stock samsung rom but I'm not sure.
please help me! I'm really desperate and sorry for even trying to do that. :crying:
If i understand correct u flashed philz JB kernel thru pc odin ?

Yes but only the Tar file and not the whole thing.
Tought maybe just replace it with other kernel for ICS 4.0.4?
EDIT!!!
OMG I got it!!
I transfered a "speedmode" kernel and it works!
ohhhhh I'm so happy!!
Sorry for posting a thread.
I guess I'll stay with my ICS.
Those things always end up bad with me...
Thanks.
I am glad u sort it out, and i suggest you to do a little more research before playing

Now after doing so much flashing i am settled with the stock. Have tried all roms jb ics and gb
The best i like are

Slim beam for jb

remember restore of nandroid can only be done on same kernel as nandroid was made
and nandroid does not backup efs, just some random thoughts
