Need slim/thin Nexus S i9020 case for a girl - Nexus S Accessories

Hi,
I really need recommendation of a case for my Nexus S. It is i9020 Super Amoled GSM version.
I am going to give this to my family member, and she said that she does not want thick ugly case.
What would you recommend?
It does not matter about the material, the only requirement is thin ... and easy to apply.
In the past, I did not use any case for my Nexus S. And now, I have moved to Galaxy Nexus (also without a case).
So, I have absolutely no experience with case
Thanks.

Thin cases usually don't provide any protection from fall and it seems like you are looking for the "thinnest case" possible to provide protection from scratches, scuffs, etc.
How about going with the double sided ZAGG invisibleShield? I use it on my phone and it's great.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield...es-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php

Another cheaper option is to get the full body skin from bestskinsever.com. Essentially the same concept, but without ZAGG's warranty. Much cheaper too I think.
In terms of an actual case, I think the thinnest I've seen are the Incipio Feather cases. They don't cover the top and bottom of the phone, but they are very thin and they just snap on.

I just bought a white one, these are super cheap!

I was looking at ZAGG, but I think it is a bit difficult to put it on, like applying screen protector films. Trapped bubbles ... I don't think she likes that.

Again, the transparent/invisible skin is difficult to put on, especially me.
I failed many times with screen protector.
Btw, Incipio Feather is one of my option, but I found it difficult to find for Nexus S, especially in Europe.
Well, she is not too clumsy with phone. She will drop it once or twice ... I gave her my HTC Desire previously and it got some scratches
How about TPU case thing? Which one is thin ... OR I saw some kind of rubber or silicon that protect nicely.

TPU is good. It has a good fit and provides some protection from small drops. I actually use a TPU case if I want my phone to feel safer, like when I go running. Its also very easy to put on. You can buy them from ebay or from dealextreme.com, but dealextreme has a very long wait time.
Don't buy silicone if she wants a smaller case. Silicone provides a better grip and has more impact absorption, but it is usually thicker and sometimes does not fit well. Also, keep in mind that if you buy the Incipio Feather cases, they won't fit perfectly if you have the shield protector on the back or around the bezel.
Here's a few pics of the TPU case I have. I got it from dealextreme, came with a generic screen protector and a soft tip stylus for $3 CDN, but it took a month to get here.

Hi sm1ke,
Nice case I think. Do you think it added quite a thickness?
I am now comparing yours with Rearth Ringke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo9swPPpDVU
Is yours i9020 (Super-Amoled, GSM) model?
The thing that I don't like with Rearth Ringke, it is rubbery which you can see at the end of the video review above.
And what brand name should I use to search yours on eBay? Because I think "TPU" is just the material type, not the brand, correct?
Thanks.

Yes, my phone is the i9020a, GSM model. I just measured the thickness and it is about 2mm thick, maybe 1.5mm. It does make the phone feel thicker, but only by a small amount.
My case doesn't have the rubbery feel around the screen, its more like plastic. Also, it is firmer than the Rearth case on the sides. It still pulls away a little bit, but not as much as the Rearth case.
I bought mine from dealextreme.com. This is the exact one I bought (It says PVC in the title, but in the description it says TPU):
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/protec...s-for-samsung-i9020-nexus-s-grey-57055?item=9
I also found this on eBay. They look like the same type of case but with a more solid color. I may order a white one. (This listing is for the i9020 4G model)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/FROSTED-TPU-...807163?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43aea439fb
Also if you search "nexus s mercury" on eBay, you'll find cases made with similar material, but they have actual cut outs for the power and volume buttons. Nicer I think, but also more expensive.

Similar to Zagg, I suggest this naked shield for nexus S... It's not so simple to apply, but the final result is very good.

I think Amazon is better!!

ZAGG is one of the easiest screen protectors to apply. Unlike dry screen protectors where it is common to have bubbles, the ZAGG invisbleshield uses a "wet" application meaning you can slide the protector around until you get it right. Also since it is wet it's easy to remove all the bubbles.
I would be surprised if you HAD bubbles with a ZAGG protector.

PDair Aluminum Case?

Can anyone comment on this case? It looks pretty decent with the rubber gripping inside. There are some videos on youtube of it. Silver looks snazzy. Already dropped my xperia bad once without a case had to send it in. Looking for something that covers it completely while I can still use it. Any advice on a case would be greatly appreciated thanks.
http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_1800000_11000335&products_id=13741
I purchased this case in the silver and the black. They are extremely well made and the X1a seems to fit in it perfectly. I like the "velvet" lining. The one thing that you have to get used to is that it has clear hard plastic built into the case that covers the screen. This was actually why I bought it because in my handbag, I don't want the phone screen getting scratched. But when I take it out I forget the screen is covered and just start tapping. It's no big deal to just open the "door" of the case but it was funny.
Also, I don't know if the aluminum messes with the radio signal. It seems a little weaker while in this case.
Overall the case is well made, protects the phone, fits snugly and looks really cool. Drawback is that it adds weight. Phone is very heavy in the case.
Hope this helps, Cindy.
so you cant use the phone while the case is closed? in the youtube videos it looks like the front screen portion of the phone is open. Can this plastic screen be removed? Id rather have a martin fields screen protector and still be able to use the phone with the case closed.... thanks.
how are the hinges on the case? are the stiff enough to keep it from closing by itself while the keyboard is out?
I've has one of these for about a week.
I carefully (but easily) removed the plastic window it comes with to make touch screen accessible. I already have a screen protector to prevent scratching.
All is good with it, although I'm sure the phone reception is slightly reduced by the metal casing. I'm testing more in this area.
I have had one of these for a long time.I used to have a plastic case with the screen exposed until i ended up with a dent in my screen. The phone reception is definatly affected with this case which is great for me as i dont want signal all the time as i use it for work to which gives me a nice break when out in the country.Definatly saves the screen though and ive dropped my phone alot of times where it would of definatly been damaged if it wasnt for this case.

Update:
Certainly well made, but the two bar drop in phone signal and the unusable GPS makes it not an option anymore......shame
Not too keen on the big hinge either.
I've gone back to the silicon case with a scratch guard fitted and will use the metal case for bigger trips/ holidays etc.
Also tried the rigid plastic cases. The one with a silicon feel. Although signal strength is unaffected, this type is too brittle and breaks easily. Especially the screen cover side.

hi, is the BoxWave silicone case really that bad? I'm planning to buy one for my X1i. my choices are the ones from BoxWave and Capdase..
which one is better? or is there another brand?
1US$ silicone case..
I had a boxwave and the top panel grip hooks broke off.
I can't comment about the Capdase. If it's made of rigid plastic, I'm sure it will do the same.
The cheapo silcone has performed the best for me.....not perfect though, but better than other options.
Got the aluminium case. It's from Brando, but from what I can see in the pictures in the first post, they are EXACTLY the SAME. Because I'm traveling quite often with my bike, I got this one as my Xperia dropped few times before and got several deep "scars" all around the housing and from cover If you do some "offroad" traveling, I can recommend this AL case. But for "ordinary" use it's bit useless. Oh and btw, it's blocking the radio signal quite well. If you get around 2 bars normaly, with this case it'll drop 2 bars bellow. So mostly no signal in a forrest. But hey, who didn't expect it, as it's ALUMINIUM

The boxwave rubberized case is terrible do not buy it. As mentioned earlier the clips to the faceplate break off within the first week of use, as it hardly stays on to begin with. The bottom piece looks nice, however after several weeks of use, it leaves a black stain on the corners of your xperia, VERY visible if you have the silver model. As far as I've seen the only remedy to my problem is to get new housing...I repeat....do not buy the boxwave case.
alrighty then... BoxWave = Bad !!!!...
has anyone tried the Capdase????
i'm also tempted to buy the cheapo silicone case (1USD wtf!), but as you can see in the picture (middle, near the optical sensor) it's not a perfect fit.. and also, i'm kinda wondering what material did they use? toxic maybe? hope not..
Silicone for $1 must be worth a punt. As for being toxic, now you mention it I have started coughing recently. It's either the silicone case or those damn pigs again (swine flu)
i have a hard plastic one looking the same , it broke/cracked like 4-5 places after 1 month , still covering the important places tho (corners)
there is a huge signal drop problem with this meral case. so anyone can post some solution.?
get the silicone case that kitzie mentioned earlier, its good, significantly better than the boxwave case, just a lint magnet if you keep the phone in your pocket

Review: Rearth Ringke Case (Pictures Galore!!!)

Just got my Rearth Ringke case for the Nexus S.
Aqua Black in color which is transparent.
Background: I purchased the Best Buy Platinum Series Combo Case (rebranded Seidio Innocase Surface) when I first bought my Nexus S on release date Dec. 16, 2010.
Unfortunately because of the curvature of the Nexus S, this case isn't as high quality as Seidio's previous Innocases for other phones. I've stopped using it and only use the Sprint-Clip Holster along with other cases. Here is my post (just pictures) about the Platinum/Seidio case: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875231
In looking for other cases, I purchased a really cheap TPU style case on eBay, and have been using it. I'm ok with it, but there are some issues that I do not like (volume/power buttons are flush and hard to push/find).
Review: Received the Rearth Ringke case today for my Nexus s.
Packaging was great. Sturdy box, mailed from Louisiana. The actual packaging for the case is nice too.

I'm not sure if it's because of the transparent color/material, but it's very silicone like, and very squishy. The eBay TPU case I have was very hard.
It's easy to put the phone in the case, but because of how "squishy" it is, once you get the phone in, it is not perfecly in. You'll need to move it around and adjust the case and line up the camera/flash/speaker holes. My eBay TPU case, once I put the phone in, it fits perfectly in and no adjustments needed. I've only had this Ringke case today, so I will see how it lasts for the next few days and see if in the normal use of my phone if the case will move around and misalign.
So how does it feel? To me it feels pretty good. It's very thin and has some kind of texture in it. I've read others saying it's slippery and offers no grip. I disagree. There is a matte sort of feeling and it's not slippery at all.
You can see in some of the pictures, the Ringke logo is on top of the Samsung logo, visible in the transparent Black Ash colored case. This doesn't matter in the solid non transparent colors, but in this particular case, I would have prefered if they moved the Ringke logo up a bit as to not block the Samsung logo.
I noticed on the power button, there is a picture of a power icon. Nice touch but not sure if it's necessary since it's almost impossible to see. (The actual Nexus S does have a power icon on the power button, that's probably why they did it).
A huge plus with this case vs other TPU cases, the Power button/Volume control actually works! They stick out a bit and you can actually feel the buttons and press it with a nice feel and the buttons work!
I like the little indentation above the speaker hole, the raised edges around the camera hole, and the little notches above the FFC and Light Sensors. You can tell they did some design work on the case to make it a little different.
Also, the phone with the Ringke Case fits my Platinum Series Spring Clip Holster. That is a major plus.
All in all, this is a very nice case. Steps above cheap HK eBay cases. The price is line with similar style (non eBay) cases.

Very Happy with this case, good texture, very good fit. It protects enough for the everyday normal usage and very occasional drops (don't tell me you never drop things...). I got the black one.
I ordered a tougher one for when I do all my crazy cycling, climbing, travelling, running, hiking, etc... so it can safely take a few more higher&tougher impacts.

Can you tell me if the case can be bought in stores in the US?
My brother is currently in the US and I'd ask him to bring me one along ...
I have both ...both great case minimal bulk added and love the back finish doesn't collect sweat/.fingerprints
the plus on the Rearth Ringke is the buttons they seem to stick out so easier to find were the case on the right they dont.
And the cut outs are slightly better
But the case on the right has a glossy finish on the front and IMO looks better like the phone has no case on
Both are great cases TPU is much better than silicone cases that get sweaty and lose shape after a while

I had wanted a black, but settled for an aqua black just a couple weeks ago from their website. Seems all they have left are colors other than black:
http://www.rearthusa.com/Nexus-S-Nexus-S-4G_p_160.html
I was able to find one or two other retailers via Google Shopping, but their price was the best (with free shipping). I was impressed. It was basically next day from LA to CA (although YMMV).
Also, I wanted to add, I have a Casemate Pop, Seido Active X, and this case. The Ringke is my favorite out of all of them thus far.
As far as the feel of it is, I liken it to the feel of the Nexus One's Teflon exterior.
I just bought two of these for my girlfriend and myself (i9020T) and we're both very happy with it. Sticks well to the phone, not too heavy/bulky and looks good. My only gripe with it is that the Black is not really that black in person like it is in the promo pictures

Only thing thinner is the Incipio Feather case. But it's not going to offer the same degree of protection.

i wish they came with a clear case!. i bought a white nexus s, and would love to see the white beneath the case lol. the clear cases i've found look cheap and bulky. but i did find a really good case, i am rockin Proporta's Mizu Shell in charcoal. Has a great feel and fit to it but again, i wish it was clear, as it only comes in charcoal. anyone know a good clear and slim case?
Thanks for the review! Once I had found out OtterBox wasn't releasing one for the Nexus S I couldn't decide between this and the Ultra Silke. I Ordered the Rearth one after reading this review. Only wish they had Black in stock, and quicker shipping to Canada..
Does this case make it hard for you to access the phone in your pockets? I bought a silicone one it was really hard to put it in and take it out of the pockets.
I usually wear jeans...
This looks like exactly what I want. Thanks for the thorough review.

[Review] SGP Ultra Silke Case

I just received the SGP Ultra Silke case for my Nexus S yesterday and like it a lot. Actually I was waiting for the Otterbox Defender case for Nexus S to come out but am getting tired of it so I just decided to give this case a shot because no one has written a review about it here yet.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. Let's start with the pictures then

First thing I'd like to say is this case costs $19.99 (excl. shipping) and comes in a standard SGP Case package (a.k.a. a hard clear plastic box), which includes the case itself and an Ultra Crystal Clear Steinheil screen protector. I did not install the screen protector because I already have full BSE skin on my Nexus S. I bought this case from SGP Store on eBay because the shipping cost is cheaper than buying from the official site. I was surprised that it took only about a week to ship from CA, US to Thailand (normally I'd expect about 10-14 days)
My first impression about the case is it looks almost the same as the Rearth Rinke case [1], [2]. However, from the information on its website, the SGP Ultra Silke is made of "hi-polymer coated silicon" so it is quite soft like a silicon case (unlike TPU cases) and has matted/smooth texture -- which feels very good in my hand. The installation was very easy. The case covers the front bezel and in the back there is an SGP Case logo which, for me, makes it looks good while keeping the minimalistic look
What I like most about this case are the cutouts -- the speaker and camera/flash holes fit perfectly. There is a raised edge around the camera hole, the speaker hole also get this little "curve" touch in the middle The USB and headphone holes work fine and there is even a separate hole for the microphone. I think SGP people did a very nice job on these small details.
And if you're in doubt, the power and volume buttons are fully functional -- just like there is no case on it. No annoying issues like the popular "S" shape TPU case whatsoever. And as you can see, there is a small power icon on the power button of the case. The volume button, however, looks a little bit plain to me though.
IMO, this case adds a lot less bulk than the "S" shape TPU case and provides more protection than the Incipio Feather case. It fits perfectly and adds more grip to the Nexus S while being stylish with its minimalistic look. I'll be happily using this SGP Ultra Silke as my main case until something better shows up (may be not the Otterbox Defender, who knows)

Hmm... just got it for like 24 hrs. so I cannot tell about that yet, but as least from the SGP Store site:

For me the surface feels similar to the matted part on the back of the "S" Shape TPU case so I guess it *should* be harder to attract dust/lint/oil etc.

I have the silk for vibrant before. The material does not attract dust and hair at all, unlike silicon. But like all cases, there will be dust deposit INSIDE between case and phone eventually. Now I rock NS naked with squaretrade.

Just came back from a whole-day normal usage and wanna confirm what he said about the material. It won't attract dust, lint, or hair at all.
BTW, my friend who has seen my Nexus S in the "S" TPU case before said this when he saw my phone today: "Now you've got a good case" xD

I have the same case and the best thing about it is that it does not attract dust.
I like it, just gotta find out where to buy it in Italy
How well does the case hold the phone? I have one of the platinum cases from best buy now and the phone almost feels loose inside the case, causing it to creak and squeak some. The clips that hold the 2 half's of the case are very weak on the platinum case also and its pretty annoying to have the case come apart in your pocket. So can you tell me how the two compare?

First of all, it's not a hard case like the platinum case, it is a one-piece case just like other silicon/TPU cases (but with nicer material) so you just push the phone in and it stays there. The case fits perfectly and shouldn't move easily
suksit: You have a I9020 right?
How does it fit in your opinion, couuld this fit/strech on a I9023?
(ordered one already, but will take about another week for it to get here)
Second question is about the sides, I watched a video on youtube by nexedzero on this case with the iPhone 4, and the user fairly easily "flips" the sides after the case is on
= are the sides firm(er) on the Nexus version or the same as in that video?
(search youtube: SGP Ulta Silke for iPhone 4" between 3:37 - 3:56mins)
From the pics it looks like a 2 Peice case. My fault for skimming the description and just looking at the pics. It looks as if there is a seam. To add to the above post. Does the silicone seem more ridgid than others?

Yes I have a i9020, the fit is perfect so hmm... I guess it *may* have the same issue as Rearth Rinke case here.
For the "flip" issue, yes the sides can be flipped just like the iPhone 4 case, however, I never "flip" the sides from my normal usage -- I think it may be because of the larger gaps (than iPhone's) between the actual screen and the case.

Actually I'm counting on this to make the difference between the SGP and Rearth, more softness & flexibility hopefully compensates the size difference...
tnx for the quick reply

[Q] Favorite LG G2 Case

What's your favorite case for your G2 (white Verizon)? I don't need OtterBox Defender bulk or protection. But would like the case to offer protection and feel good in the hands none the same. Having the buttons covered would be a great bonus.
Wanted to add the screen has a Zagg (original) screen protector on it. Any cases that don't interfer with it?
Cruzerlite Bugdroid on my Verizon G2. Fits perfectly with just enough protection and allows a screen protector to fit as well.
I have a Ballistic and I like it. It fits good, isn't too bulky, and it covers the back buttons. My wife has a Trident, which is also nice but is a bit bigger. No button coverage on the Trident. Both accommodate a screen protector just fine. In fact the Trident case comes with one.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Neo-...-Armor-Case-for-LG-Optimus-G2/1877761621.html
I have this case. It keeps low profile, protects the corners (most important for g2) and has soft touch tpu on the back. Nice to hold. Previously had spigen slim armor (this was way too heavy and too bulky), cheap tpu case (i think the phone would be better of naked rather than in those 0.3mm or 0.6mm cases, cause they provide no protection at all).
Would like to try that Diztronic tpu case that everyone seems to recommend. But i dont want to pay for shipping as much for the case itself. 17$ total Whoaat. Also i think cheap tpu case provides almost the same protection as that Diztronic one.
Puregear slimshell i think would be the perfect case for me, but its too expensive.
I have the Verizon and love the Incipio Feather. I've dropped my phone several times and the case does its job. No dings or scratches on the phone. Very low profile. Nice soft rubbery matte coating. quality plastic. Tough.
i dont know if it fits the verizon, but i have a spigen slim armor and i think it's a very nice case... but the buttons are not covered...
I use the Incipio Dual Pro and love it!
Diztronic case is best for me...

Spigen Slim Armor. I don't use another case, but I'm happy with it.

Wow! I actually have the Dark Blue version of this but I found the Cyan version is only $5 plus Free Shipping. Mine is starting to get beat up, so $5 is a steal. Incipio is the best. The product is quality and solid. It has a awesome powder rubber coating that helps keep it nice and clean/scratch free. It isn't painted or made of cheap brittle plastic like other cases.
Just FYI on the price.
Update: Incipio typically comes with 2 screen protectors also... which makes it an even better deal.
Just received the cheapest possible matte TPU case from ebay, cost me less than 1€ and it's just great! Fits perfectly, there is absolutely no chance the phone will fall off from it. The cutouts are fitting perfectly (the simtray cutout wasn't necesary tho, you don't change sim card too often, or is it just me?) even though they aren't that well detailed, but hey, it cost less than 1€! The material it's made of isn't too jelly or soft, it's pretty solid piece of rubber-plastic and feels nice and not that cheap. I'm very, very pleased with this one!
undoubtedly the Trident he best case IMHO is the Trident Cyclops – a look at the car-driving-over-phone video here

I have leather flip case over one year now, protection is great but it is annoying to open the case every time I need to use the device. I’ve ordered Spigen Slim Armor this morning.
i got an otterbox commuter case so far it's pretty good. rugged but good looking
Got surprised with how well this case is made, it's plastic, rigid, and gives a nice sandstone oneplus one like feeling, also got a screen protector free. In my opinion, worth of money, it's slim also and scratch resistant (tried giving it a rub with my keys).

This is mine flip case, made by Teracell. Bought it at local store. Its really beautiful, but it has few bad sides.
- I don't like that it doesn't cover top and bottom edge of the phone
- It doesn't have a magnet for holding cover, so it usually stays open
- Its really small hole around flash and it makes flash bounce of it on pictures, making flash unusable

Cool case but won't work with the Verizon since it is a tad thicker because of the Qi Wireless Charging.

Protective case for the X Compact?

Anybody come across a protective case yet for the phone. I'm specifically looking for the TPU plastic cases. Thanks.
Amazon has a few crappy hard cases and TPU cases. Put something on it until better cases come out. They do scratch.

Just ordered this case from Roxfit for ~$22 including shipping (from UK?). We'll see how it compares to what I already have when I get it.
Seriously, when is someone going to release an actual case for this phone? I'm talking something sturdy, not cheap plastic. Although, I'm not hugely impressed that the official sony case that I was planning on getting is currently on pre-order from mobilefun.com for $54... wow.

This case just came in the mail today. It took about 11 days to arrive. Fit is pretty good. The thickness of the material is a little thinner than I'm typically used to for TPU.

I've reviewed a few products I purchased on Amazon. (2) different screen protectors and a hard plastic case.
TLDR: both screen protectors are both undersized & the case is cheap but offers minimal protection.
Skinomi is now selling screen protectors and full body skins. I like mine!
If anyone likes Spigen.. please email them requesting them to make a case! Maybe if enough of us requests it they'll make one. I ordered the MicroP case and the Qosea case off Amazon. The MicroP case was thicker than the Qosea but both did not fit right. Qosea case edge wasn't raised enough to protect the screen and both bowed out the top (MicroP) and bottom (Qosea). The Qosea case felt like it would provide zero drop protection. Reminded me of the thick clear plastic wrap on restaurant chair cushions.
the problem with a lot of cases with hard backs is that dust and other crud will inevitably get between the case and the back of the phone leading to a lot of scratches. I'd be interested in a plain bumper case (no back) if anyone knows of a decent one

Been looking for the same thing. Think i stumbled on one the other day (ebay) but it was aluminum. I know aluminum ones can effect signal strength at times; So I have been holding out hoping a plastic one gets released soon.
I still fondly remember the official bumper for my old Nexus 4. It was perfect, and yet no manufacturer seems able to replicate anything like it anymore.
I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini souped up with official CM13. While the battery life is over 2.5 days and while it functions okey, I am ready to switch for something with better performance, more memory and a better camera. I'm this close to buying the XC but, especially since the notorious rep of Z-series' durability and especially since the plastic back of XC apparently scratches easily, I cannot since it doesn't seem to have quality protective cases in the market. I usually go for Case-Mate's Tough cases which are very protective and high-quality cases http://www.case-mate.eu/eu/other/sony.html. Unfortunately, as for now, Case-Mate isn't showing love for the XC even though they've made cases for all of the other Sony phones. I usually get my accessories via Amazon and these are the choices (the ones that seem good and better looks than those transparent gel cases everyone is seem to be getting for XC):
IVSO 'hard' case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/IVSO-Sony-Xperia-Compact-Case/dp/B01LCFH1J4/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1478770410&sr=8-8&keywords=x+compact+case
L&K TPU gel case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Compact-LK-Resistant-Silicone-Protective/dp/B01LL1GDYS/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1478770410&sr=8-4&keywords=x+compact+case
Terrapin 'hard' case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Xperia-Compact-Case-Protection-Rubberised/dp/B01LYAIDVG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1478770500&sr=8-3&keywords=terrapin+x+compact
The problem is that none of these cases are A) high-quality or B) protective enough for accidental drops (based on the structure and the fact that everyone is saying these are good for 'light' protection. Then there are the two flip cases from Sony obviously (the ones you need NFC to be enabled for the flip cover to work)
Sony Style Cover Stand: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Style-Cover-Xperia-Compact/dp/B01LONE084/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1478770783&sr=8-4&keywords=x+compact+sony+style
Sony Style Cover Touch: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Style-Cover-Xperia-Compact/dp/B01LONE0SE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1478770796&sr=8-1&keywords=x+compact+sony+touch
but I don't like these types of cases as the flip cover gets in the way. For me, the perfect case is a hard cover back case with inner shock protection (thin silicone sleeve or something), with raised edges so that the screen doesn't touch the ground and slim enough to not make pocketability difficult. I guess I either have to not buy the XC or buy XC with a crappy case and hope Case-Mate makes a Tough case for XC.

That may be the best one I've seen for XC. Unfortunately, it does have a few issues for me personally. While it does have raised lips in case the phone falls or gets hit by a flat surface, the bottom and top parts of the phone remain unprotected. Moreover, the buttons (obviously not including the button that doubles as fingerprint sensor) are unprotected as well (although this might be a good thing for the camera shutter button as many cases that have button protection make them harder to push). Finally, the design is very slim without a bumper so while drop/shock protection may not be optimal.
I will probably just hold off from buying the XC until I can get a more protective case.
Well I bit the bullet and ordered the XC. For case and screen protector, I ordered this EasyAcc transparent case and this screen protector from TechGear (I've used their products before). The case isn't the best for drop/shock protection but I guess I have to just be extra careful with the XC until Case-Mate or other quality manufacturer makes a good tough case. On the other hand, most people seem to go for these transparent cases and I've yet to see any reports on broken/cracked XCs.
Side note while hoping some manufacture makes a plastic bumper I am using the case linked below. It is the 3rd one I have tried so far and is also the best one out of the three I own. It's thin, but not too thin like the others so it offers slight drop protection. Also the front lip around the screen does protrude a bit to offer some screen protection. Best part is it was less than 4 dollars. Only negative is that it ships from China so expect a 2 week wait period before it arrives. http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Sony-Xperia-X-Compact-F5321-Black-Rubber-Skidproof-Gel-skin-case-cover-/182302722988?hash=item2a7216cbac:g:zpsAAOSwx2dYDjh3

I came from a Z5C and the Nillkin Frosted Shield Case was amazing. I would highly recommend this case for any phone. I am planning to place an order for the x compact version.
For those who don't wish to order from china (Nillkin HQ) please note this "TopAce" case looks exactly the same. I will report back once received.

This case is not at all like Nillkin. It feels kinda like silk and offers no better grip on the phone than the phone body itself. The photos were quite misleading. Would not recommend the TopAce case.
