[Q] Updatng from Gingerdx v022 to v025 - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear All,
please guide me to update my X8 having Gingerdx v022 to v025 without loosing applications installed. Does doing full wipe delete my data and application ? Also how to update CWM with the update ?

I updated from 22 to 25 without a full wipe. went fine and phone is faster and more responsive.. I dont have that many apps installed though. Just boot to CWM and install zip from location. reboot and you're away.
If you do hit problems just go back into to CWM and do a full wipe..

You need full reinstall , gdx v22 is cm7.1 and the v25 is cm7.2......
Sent from my E15i using XDA

Full wipe is recomended because of different ROM bases. (CM7.1 and CM7.2)

To answer your question:
You can always use Titanium Back-up from the market to back up all user apps and data stored with them.
When you upgrade from v22 to v25, as Adrian said, it's a different version of CM, therefor, one must full wipe for better results. No one said it wouldn't work well without wiping, but it's just better to do it.
After installing and wiping, simply download titanium back up again, and restore your back-ups...that's how i do it.
Hope this helps...

Hello guys
I'm new here and in the endless world of Android, so please forgive me if you think that my question is stupid. I've already tried to find a solution inside the forum but there is always some part that I can't really understand..
You've said that v025 has cm7.2. Does this mean that if I want to install this version I need to first install cm7.2? Or is it included with the gingerdx v025 and I just have to do the things that you've already explained?
Besides, is there anything else to do before I install the zip file?
It's the third time that I block my phone and miraculously restore it to the v022, so I'd prefer not to make another big mistake..
Hope my English is good, and thank you all

Yeah welcome and for your question have you tried using the search button and reading the rom thread? Not only did you revive an old useless thread, you also asked a very simple question.
I'm sorry for being hard but this is better then giving you answers and making you think you can be lazy and can ignore searching and reading.

@madamemim: it's simple.
1. make a nandroid backup to be safe.
2. install cwm
3. dl the gdx (for stock) version you want save it on your sdcard
4. reboot to cmw
5. full wipe, clear cache, dalvik, etc.
6. flash your new rom
i'm assuming you know how to use cwm since you already flashed a custom rom.

CM7#49

Hi guys,
pls can u tell me,what is new in #49 rel.?
I want to instal that #49,im currently at stock 2.2.2 rom.
My BB is : 1035.21_20110405
Phone is rooted and new cwm recovery installed from ROM Manager.
I wonder what works and what doesnt work in this #49.
Can i freely install this rel. or should i wait for some new rel.
Im not advanced user.
Thank you
Well, thats for you to find out with your curiosity.
Allow me to ask you. What is the difference between Android froyo and Gingerbread? Haha, huge different. Install it i believe you wouldn't regret.
As stated, video fails sometimes, but i haven't faces any fail recently... Other then that, i personally thinks its flawless.
Cheers goodluck
Thank u for reply,
i'll install it , just need to find SD card large enough to do a backup first.
Just to ask...
steps?
1.backup stock rom and data from recovery
2.clean/wipe data
3.install zip from SD card
4.wait to complete updating
5.enjoy?
am right?
One more question...
Battery life? Now my battery life is about 10h most.
Thank u
It doesn't matter an advanced user or not. And in that case, the CM7 nightly builds shouldn't be much of a problem for you. I haven't tried the CM7#49 personally, but i tried the #48 build and i found it to be pretty good. everything was working fine.

Uh...one more question...
CM7#49 contains google apps like market,mail...? or i have to install zip gapps-bg-20110613-signed.zip via recovery?
Why don't you just read the CM7 thread? Everything is written there:
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM 7 to your Optimus 2X (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Root your device
2. Install ROM Manager (search the market for it, no need to use the Premium version), and from there install ClockworkMod Recovery
3. Do a Nandroid backup!
4. WIPE (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition)
5. Install the ROM
6. Optionally install the Google Addon
Thanks for reply,i‘ll do that.

{Q} Updating custom ROM

Let's say i have gignerDX5 installed and want to update to v6. Do I have to backup all my apps and data (sms, phonebook) again?
Simple answer is no, you can just upgrade and it will keep all user data.
You should however make a backup in Xrecovery just in case something goes wrong, if all goes well then either move the backup to PC for later or just delete.
I updated from Froyobread to GingerDX and still kept my data and apps.
I make somethimes fullfactory in Xrecovery,if I switched to new room. It´s not bat to make back up in Xrec.of old room. It´s your game, wher you have back up.I use Titanum backup pro and my acount for phonebook and calendar.I do´nt need anything else for change the room.
Hi...
I have a question, and I didn't wanna create new thread, cuz its related to title
When I flash a new rom, its recommended to do a Full Wipe... Do I have to do that before or after flashing a Rom?
You don't need to do a full wipe when you update GingerDX. Just install it and reboot. I didn't have any bugs by not making a full wipe.

If you're coming from 2.1 to DX do a wipe, I tried first time yesterday installing rom and got stuck on cyanogen mod boot screen. Did a wipe, reinstaled and worked.
So do wipe if coming from other rom

[Q] [QUS] How To Upgrade a Current Rom

FrnZ a noob here
My Qus IS that i want to upgrade my current rom
as a example i have an GINGERDX V021 installed in my W8
and i want to upgrade it to V022 without the full wipe
i mean my msgs, apps, etc must not be removed in upgrading...
If you just update the rom form cwm or xrecovery the data in your system won't be affected. It won't erase your apps sms calls etc. Of course if You do not do a full wipe, but I don't think so.
If You are currently in GDX and want to upgrade for a newer version there won't be data loss. If you are concerned just do a backup from cwm or xrec before upgrade (this is adviseable always). If something goes wrong there is a backup then.
Forget one little thing:
If you use a2sd or sd-ext trhere could be problems, the update must use the same method.

n just a one more qus ..
WHAT can be happen with app2sd n if sumthing wrong happen what should i DO ?
There wouldn't be any problem with app2sd. It will only happen if you did something wrong. I first used GingerDX on v018. Then to 19, to 20, to 21, to 22. No problem with that at all.
Hit the THANKS button if I helped!!

Bootloop with Nova

hi
so i was running NOVA HD 1.0.3 and i wanted to update to 1.1.0, but i didnt know if there was a different way except for flashing to i opened a post on XDA and got respone:"yes, u can just flash over the older version, if u dont wipe data all files will be saved" (thats what it said in short).
So i tried this, booted in latest CWM, wipe cache partition-> install from sd card-> NOVA HD V1.1.0, setup wizard and now i'm in a bootloop...
I took 128mb swap, heavy multitasking and europe gps, the rest i left defaulted as i remember. Then just the reboot after the install wizard, now its in a bootloop. I tried to make a NANDROID backup but when backuping the data it encountered an error so that was a no-go.
It is looping in the cm boot animation, after the lg-logo.
Do i just need to download different ROM and flash that, or back to lg stock software??
hoping for quick response cause i ****ing hate this, and i already lost all my data as it is now, i assume.
got it working now after full wipe

Refering to my answer in other post??? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781601)
I NEVER said that your data will be saved if you dont wipe.
When you're flashing a new version (update) of the same custom rom, you dont need a full factory wipe. Only Cache, Dalvik and Battery stats wipe are needed. But if you change, for example, cm9 to cm7, then you need a Full Wipe.
So before accusing people, be sure of knowing what you're doing. We are a community and we try to help other people.
When we say "Make a NANDROID backup" before doing anything stupid, it's not a joke. So before flashing anything new...try to solve your real problem...
Maybe you need to read more then only 1 thread to understand what is working or not when you're flashing new rom or kernel...

Can't get a normal google play :( DESTROYED android life

Hello everyone , i have had this problem since forever , i can't get a normal google play store
first , the ( APPS ) homepage of the store doesn't update it self meaning that it gives me recommendations once and forever
2nd , i can't access the homepage of the market by clicking the top left google play store icon ( it's just not clickable ) , iam running the latest triamislim rom on ICS and i have the latest GAPPS installed :s
i have had this problem on JB as well , i tried marketunlocker / market enabler . but they don't seem to do much but show me the payed apps
Try this steps :
1- go to CWM and >> wipe data/cache/dalvik ;;;
2 - format system .
3- install any Gingerbread rom using odin.
4- open google play and install any app.
5- done.... you can flash any rom without problems now !

Best & simpelst is to come fresh from stock so when u encounter problems during process its easier to help so we dont have to ask what changed, when it occured (we dont know all the changes that have been made in the past) & come with solutions that"ll fix it or **** it up more & ull be more frustated. Just say the easy "factor". Plus I know in most cases it will be running without problems afterwards & ull be satisfied with x-bean or whatever rom u prefer. Just start over from "scratch" starting with flashing 3 file stock rom via odin.
Here odin & pits use 512 tick repartition: http://db.tt/yHvd2Brm
JVU rom: http://db.tt/z0WBjcFk
Flash it
When done flash
Cf root: http://db.tt/2Qre1j2k
Now u rooted go into recovery, do a full wipe (data, cache, dalvik), flash custom rom of your choice. U may have to flash custom 2 or 3 times. I recommend x-bean cuz its Running smooth & stable here. Hope u like it 2.
My tip is make a nandroid backup when custom rom is just installed & running fine. And make some more at several points of satisfaction when personalizing your rom
If you make changes afterwards & problems occure & cant fix it or find a good solution, u can just restore with the nandroid backup so u dont have to start from scratch again. It just saves u time in the future.

Did the problems also occure in GB? Or did it start when u were on jb? Either way try JVU like i mentioned in previous post, see if it makes a difference in gb. & maybe the gapps u flashed werent suitable for the jb rom u chose. X-bean has it included by the way.
About x-bean I would give it a try. Experiences are just opinions. There are always complains about every rom. But for me I dont have problems multitasking, battery life i can manage a working day, average i think between 4 or 5 hours screen on time at lowest brightness. When I go 2 sleep & wake up (mostly 8 hours) battery draining between a 2/5 %. I keep wifi on.
My settings LiveOc 120, big mem 404, ondemand ui, noop/sio, rasd 1024. Still satisfied Running smooth & stable
But at the end its on u to try it out.just flash a couple different roms, experience it & make a choice. The beauty of it is, if u dont like (anymore) flash another one till u find ur "dreamgirl"
