Hello
I currently have a nexus one flashed with CM 6 RC2. I would like to get the new korean radio and flash with the new CM RC3 rom or with LimeMOD R4. I am not sure which one is better I am quite new to this. I would like to have the 720p video function and would like to not have ADW launcher built in. Could you please tell me which one to get. Also if there is any way to be able to change the trackball color for incoming calls i would like to know how to do that.
Thanks
I am new to this could you please give me a step by step explanation on how to flash the new firmware, google apps and radio.
Thanks
To make things easy and since you're already running CM6 RC2, I would open up ROM Manager and simply download CM6 RC3. CM6 RC3 comes with 720p and is much easier to do rather than flash a new radio and then flash CM6 or the other ROM that you stated.
If you don't have ROM Manager, go install it from the Market. Click Download ROM>CyanogenMod>CyanogenMod 6.0.0-RC3
Simple as that =).

To be completely honest, I get amazing speeds with RC3 and WildMonks Kernel, so for me to flash a radio isn't necessary. A lot of the speeds posted about the Korean radio are from domains that aren't completely accurate, so make sure you do your research first.
There is no doubt an increase in speed, but like I said, RC3 with WildMonks Kernel gives me phenomenal amount of speed.
Okay that sounds good. Does the kernel come with RC3 or is that something seperate? I am not really sure what the kernel is..
The kernel that comes with RC3 is good enough. I shot 720p @22 FPS and when I flashed WildMonks Kernel, I shot 720p @24 FPS.
I see what your saying. I was wondering if there is an ADW launcher in the RC3 and if there is a way to change the color of the trackball for incoming calls.
Yes ADW Launcher comes stock with it and yes there are trackball color notifications for your dialer.
So where do i change those notifications? Also currently when using RC2 I am having some issues with Launcher Pro and I do prefer that over the ADW Launcher. SOmetimes when I open the app drawer it gets glitchy and some of the app dont show up. Also a lot of the time launcher pro has to do a force close. Do you know if that it fixed in the RC3?
I use Launcher Pro and I haven't had any issues with lag or FC's with RC3. For the LED notifications you simply go to Settings>CyanogenMod Settings>User Interface>LED Notifications> Dialer .
Update to RC3. It's a big improvement from RC2 and plus, you get 720p
and RC3 doesn't include a radio it keeps your existing, so if you want to flash the korean radio, there shouldn't be any problems (im using it on mine as we speak)

Make sure you do a nandroid backup first... that is very important!!
This is how I did it...
1. Downloaded the radio update from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723839
2. Copied the update to the root of my SD card
3. Rebooted phone and help the power button and the VOL down button to enter the fastboot/recovery mode
4. Use the VOL down key to select "recovery"
5. Phone reboots into recovery mode (I am using Amon Ra's 1.7.0.1)
6. I selected the option "flash .zip from SDcard"
7. It gave me a selection of the .zip files I had on the root on the SD
8. I selected the file that I downloaded in step 1
9. I applied the update and then the phone rebooted
10. Phone came back in recovery mode (I believe it wiped the cache)
11. Once the cache was wiped (it was automatic) I just rebooted the phone and started using like normal
Let me know if you want some screenshots or if I didn't explain something right. That is pretty much exactly what I did... step by step. Hope that helps.

Its a problem with Cyanogen and the launcher rotations, go into the launcher settings and disable auto rotation and all the FC's go away.Im not sure if this was fixed in RC3, but that was the problem in Rc2
Thank you very much! I will try this out and let you know. Also would it be better to do this before or after i install RC3? Or does it not matter.
Thanks

yes, the radio is something totally separate from the rom, which is why it is so important not to mess up a radio update, you can brick your phone if a radio update goes south, not even a nandroid can fix that. But yup your radio is stuck at 5.08 until you flash over it with a newer/older radio image.
Thank you very much! It its all done now

I just upgraded my phone to 2.3.4 with the custom rom "simply Honey" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020720
the installation went smoothly without any hassles and i successfully flashed my device using odin, however, i am not able to access any UI modification features or themes. I even installed the Tw4(modded) version from the addon list through CWM Recovery mod and when i reboot there is no trace of tw4, the phone acts as it was before. There seems to be no tw4 in the home switcher app too. Can someone help me ? one of the reasons for me to use a custom rom was that i could mess around with the fact how the phone looks.
Yaar i think that rom didnt give you modification right so thats why you are avlw to change launcher.

asked be4 about which rom is the best one before i bought the galaxy tab
now i bought an used galaxy tab but with good condition so im new here " a noob "
and honestly i get cofused with all the topics and guides and answers ,,, it is like a paradox for me !!!
i want to install AOKP rom but from what i read it require overcome rom be4 i install it ... i need to know why !! my galaxy tab seems to be in stock rom gb why i cant install aokp rom without these dilemma ?
and there are alot of word i dont understand like MTD , modems , drivers , kernals , etc
and also there are liks from overcome are dead ,,, Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_Wipe.zip ,,,Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_NoWipe.zip,,,Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.tar,,,Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.zip,,, modems
so if u please guide me how to install it from the beginning to the end i will be very pleased
The why : you need to use CWM to flash ics, and overcome kernel has it.
There are others but the method may not be reliable.
Here to get overcome

Which link are down?
You only need gb stock safe.
Kernel tar is attached in that post I link to.
Detail guide is a PDF in the docs link.
What else you need? All are there.

only gb stock safe ?
what about overcome 7 wipe ? overcome 7 nowipe ?
and what about modems ? which one i use ? or dont use any one ?
Gb stock safe package contains modem.
There is no need to flash overcome rom.
Only up to overcome kernel, you have cwm.
Use that to flash ics.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have clean Gingerbread.
But since you want ICS, continue reading the guide.
- download ICS (CM9 or AOKP) and gapps-ics and put in external sd card.
- boot to download mode
- you need to use Odin to flash Overcome kerner tar
- once flashed the tab reboots.
- ignore the robotic voice, just force the tab to off
- boot to CWM recover (press vol-up and power )
- flash ICS (CM9 or AOKP)
- after flashing the system will convert your tab to MTD partition, but it will probably bring you to recovery or stuck at boot.
- force reboot to recovery again
- flash ICS again
- immediate after complete, flash gapps
- reboot

Hey, you don't sleep. Do you
Great you are now on AOKP like me. You won't regret.
Grab an external SD and learn to do Android backup from recovery.
And move it to external SD for safe keep.
And also learn titanium backup, also choose to backup to external is better in that one.
Samsung uses touchwiz framework for many of its app. So you can't have them in aosp based rom like cm9 and AOKP, or even miui.
But head to the application and theme sub forum. There are a few that runs.
Camera known issue.
Super user built in. You can now run Titanium backup that requires root.
Or es file explorer my favorite, in root mode and system mounted read write. Terminal too, just type su in the terminal shell and you get root.
Rom control, ask in AOKP thread in dev.
Also nav bar, ask in dev if that can be done.
I mostly run stuff in standard mode.

@priyana:
Hi, I have a question, actually two:
1. Does GSM work on AOKP out of the box?
2. Is it supposed to work on CM9 ICS 4.0.4? This is what I have now, 3G works but when I make a call hear the tab ringing but my phone does not.
I bought this baby used in top shape and I would really like to get the phone function working.
Thanks in advance
yes GSM should work on both AOKP and CM9 since they use the same device tree.
I understand Canada has different GSM/UMTS frequency than us in europe/asia/australia ? the default baseband in AOKP and CM9 is JPZ
In your default stock firmware, can you have 3G and also make phone call?
You need the same modem, if you can remember which baseband you are using in stock.
Else we just have to look around what works for you.
Go to the modem thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
and try get the AT&T modem,
BUT DONT FLASH the zip via CWM in ICS.
backup your /radio/modem.bin first.
just unzip the zip and find the modem.bin and copy and paste to /radio/modem.bin
reboot and check the baseband and try your 3G and call.
Thanks man, I will try it and let you know. I got the unit used and with the mentioned ROM already on it.
The baseband that I have is P1000XXJPZ
Once again, thanks
Hmm, yeah, it didn't work...
I tried the steps found in the Overcome guide and I restocked after that I stopped and tried calling and ... IT WORKED!
I am now rebooting after flashing the overcome kernel (it's doing some conversion to ext3) ...
All that's left after that is to flash the rom... OK, it's booting, let's see what's next
OK CWM recovery does its thing...done, rebooting. Can't wait to try the voice call feature... And it works also!
I am pretty happy with the results of my 15 minutes of work.
Anyone needing stuff, I am ready to help
What radio are you using in overcome?

Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
download ICS rom ( i suggest this one )

install it via recovery
if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want

I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
