[Q] Need some help BSOD/bootloop guys - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I am flashing my gf's phone and tried to root the phone first. Flashed a 'PDA' file in ODIN as the guide said.
Now my Galaxy S has the BSOD (Black Screen Of Death) logo. I can still go into the Download-mode, so i guess there is no need for panic.
I read a lot of guide's and faq's here at XDA, and I think I am supposed to flash new firmware via ODIN (with a PIT, PDA, PHONE and CSC file).
My problem is that all the links to this firmware are down or dead, Argh!
Can you provide me a working link with the right and some advice?
BTW, I flashed my HD2, and HTC Sensation many times before, but I am new to flashing Samsungs.

When you flashed the PIT file I assume that you selected repartition?
The PIT file contains the "Drive" layout when you select repartition it will completely wipe the phone as you have found out.
If the phone is able to boot into download mode you will be able to flash another ROM.
I would suggest Darky's 10.2 as this is a odin flashable ROM and it is based on the Samsung stock ROM's.
If you use Darky's you do not have to root the phone before flashing as Darky's complete ROM includes root standard.
Most of the new custom ROM's do not require root before hand as root is included unless the thread states other wise

NOW I CANT GET INTO RECOVERY ONLY DOWNLOAD MODE WORKING HOW TO FIX THAT
had no lagfix before install and flashed the phone before wit diferent roms without any problem
If your phone is able to go into Download mode, you should be fine.
You can use odin to flash stock eclair 2.1 onto your SGS. If you're not too sure how, have a look around the forum and there should be plenty of advice on how to go about it.
If, somehow, you can't find anything, reply here again and I'll see if I can help you out.
I haven't done the same thing but the result is pretty much the same, stuck with a boot loop after installing Bell provided Android 2.2 upgrade. I can now only get into download mode, could you guide me where I can the instruction to load the stock 2.1 firmware that contains the bootloader and where I can download the files so I can try to make it work again. Thanks
Everything you need, you should be able to find on http://www.samfirmware.com , including Odin (the software used for flashing) and some guides.
Be sure to download the firmware for your location ie. Europe, Asia, America.
Read darkys thread. Do the long install. Simple.
Also the first boot with darkys rom takes about ten mins. It says so on install instructions. People panic for no reason because they get impatient
Downloaded the firmware already but it is in a .rar password protected, I am looking for the .tar of the same file I9000UGJH2. Found another site with the .exe but not sure how to use this one with Odin, the exe autoextract, but the file does not contains the .tar file and cannot find the info on how to configure Odin with this. I Will continue my research. Thanks for the info
The password is different depending on which file you downloaded. Go back to samfirmware and see whether the file had a # or ## or neither.
# Pass = samsung-firmwares.com
## Pass = samfirmware.com
Just flash any stock firmware via Odin and you'll be fine.
Thanks all for your assistance, can't wait to leave work and try that.
Maxx
thanks
i got it working again flashed with odin stock firmware

[q] I am a total noob with unbricking my Samsung Galaxy S I9000

Hi,
Trying to unbrick my phone is driving my mind totally mad!
So far I have tried installing several CF roots with ODIN and tried to reflash the ROM with I9000XWJS3. All of them lead to no success, just a black screen and the phone vibrates every 10 seconds.
Trying to find information on this forum is easy.. but trying to put all those pieces of information together is somewhat impossible for me.
I am from the Netherlands and bought this SGS 2nd hand from someone who has rooted it. However I have no idea how that person has done that with which piece of software. I also have no idea what build number it currently has. However I do know there is no sim-lock, because the owner bought it from the KPN telecom provider and has no problems using a sim-card from T-mobile.
I am able to get into the download mode (3 button combo thingy) and Odin can successfully flash the ROM of my SGS.
Now what I need to know is which PIT, ROM, CSC, Modem files etc. I need to make this phone working again. Preferably I'd like to run it on Froyo 2.2.1 with Android market installed.
try downloading the firmwares from samfirmwares.com
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913 download the firmware from here. preferably JM8 flash that thru odin with PIT and REPARTITION and that should do the trick. then you can flash over a new rom like JPY (2.2.1)
I've successfully unbricked my Galaxy with the 'Froyo ROM that does not brick' here - "h t t p://w w w.4shared.com/file/dJiyRz3v/EUGENE373_SamsungS_Froyo_PDA.html" (Can't post as actual link because I'm not allowed to yet, just copy and paste the bit between the speech marks into a new window and remove the spaces).
As per previous poster's instructions; flash through Odin as PDA with PIT and REPARTITION (Original instructions for this ROM said not to use repartition but that didn't work for me)
You should then be able to Odin flash any new rom you like, but when you do DON'T use REPARTITION or PIT, otherwise your phone will just get bricked again.
I feel that flashing the firmwares which needs partition is safer and better than those that isn't....for my case I prefer flashing JPU than JPY or JPX...it works every time I got my phone semi-bricked, hehe...
Hello,
Yesterday i had similar problem ater trying to flash Darky's resurrection edition.
After the boot i had a black screen just like you.
Here's how i finally unbricked:
Download
- PIT 803 file multiupload.com/6JX2LEUCTY
- I9000XWJS3 pakcage from samfirmware.com (european for my case), PIT803 version : hotfile.com/dl/100247999/301207f/I9000_XEN_I9000XWJS3.rar.html
(The pwd is samfirmware.com)
The package I9000 XEN I9000XWJS3 contains 3 file (which i think is the key, trying to repartition with only one PDA file seem to soft brick the phone)
In Odin, tick repartition, for PIT select the PIT 803 file
For PDA, choose I9000XWJS3-REV03-ALL-low-CL830616.tar.md5
For CSC, choose GT-I9000-CSC-XENJS3.tar.md5
For PHONE, choose MODEM_I9000XXJPY.tar.md5
After the flash, your phone will reboot in rescue, unplug it and do a wipe/factory reset, then reboot and you should be ok.
The goal was only to unbrick my phone, but i'm totally happy with this firmware for now, my phone is a lot faster than before, and i don't feel the need of a lagfix anymore!!
Please note that this is just my experience, and you should wait for more advanced users help.

[Q] I need step by step instructions to go back to stock froyo and update via kies

Hello friends
I have searched and found a lot of threads but my obsession has not been solved.
I am on DDJPA indian GB flashed via Odin.I want to get back to stock froyo so that i can update to GB via odin.[Told u so!It is an obsession like having a perfect one!!! and i have a glimmer of hope that our Tab may get official ICS and i want it via kies but kies now does not recognise my Tab]
I have downloaded stock indian froyo[the one i had] from samfirmware.I have also downloaded flashing manual also from samfirmware. It says that i should flash pit file first with repartition and then remove battery & then go to download mode again to flash PDA tar file without repartition.
I am totally lost here.
I tried to flash with pit and PDA Tar file with repartition. It flashed successfully but when it boot was stuck at Samsung logo for about 30 minutes.[Should i have waited some more time at samsung logo flashing stage?]
Then i re-flashed with DDJPA GB tar with pit thro odin and revived the Tab.
Can anybody give me step by step instructions regarding how to flash via odin to get back to stock?

can't boot into recovery

After installing the lastest "S.U.R.F.A.C.E" ROM on my GT-I9000 I'm presented with the Galaxy S logo and nothing else,
Tried and tried vol up + home + power number of times now with no avail.
Everything was working fine before was able to boot into clockwork recovery ect, unfortunately I do not have a usb cable so can't try odin any help would be great.
Grab yourself a jig from ebay or the likes, or make one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551
It will boot into download fine the problem I have is it won't boot into recovery is there any way I can wipe it or does it look like I am in need of a cable?
Then reflash back to stock using Odin
What were you flashing from as surface is an oxeded rom, not dexeded.

clockwork recovery, i take it I messed up here so
No, meant what rom were you on before your flash? Stock?
oh sorry got the phone of a friend looked like a custom samsung rom, build version was easyprojectv2 if that rings any bells?
Looks like the problem was caused by trying to flash a odexed rom over a deodexed rom, or not having the correct bootloaders for the new rom. Normally before a flash I would return to stock (firmware from sammobiles.com) first via ODIN, do all the wipes, flash a kernel so you have a nice clean install to 'abuse'. Then I would add any custom rom from there be it by ODIN or by cwm.
Grab yourself a usb lead, nice clean flash and start again.
Ok so I've 3 file here:
APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
CODE_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
KERNEL_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100803.pit (not sure if i need this as was in the root of the odin folder not the firmware?)
Where do the other 3 file go PDA PHONE CSC???
I am also stuck on the same front, i donwloaded rom from samfirmware but it only had PDA part and nothing else, please suggest which official rom should i download??

I would go this way mate, first grab JVT from sammobiles.com ( register first)
Flash that using ODIN
Comes with 3 files, CSC, PHONE and PDA
PDA file goes to PDA in ODIN
PHONE goes into MODEM in ODIN
CSC goes in CSC in ODIN.
Also select PIT file, should be 512 on the PIT section on ODIN, hit start and it will flash then reboot.
Then open ODIN again, connect phone and flash your KERNEL to the PDA section of ODIN.
Then grab this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117579
and flash using cwm.
Your then on JW1 all rooted and ready to play.
put the "APBOOT_I9000XWJW1_CL788890_REV03_user_low_ship.tar" file into the PDA and flashed it. Everything seems to be working fine might stick with the stock for a while never really needed to be rooted.
ok i just popped the SIM and have no network access when i tap on Mobile Networks in the setting it tells me to insert a SIM????
the firmware i had was wrong didnt have a modem. Downloaded a jvt as buttwad said flashed an now everything working perfect now. cheers mate!

[Q] I have bricked my I9000?

Hi,
I have a I9000BVJP4 (FROYO.BVJS4) phone bought in 2011 from Orange in the UK. I was trying to root the bastard to get Jelly Bean on it. I coulddnàt get 4zroot to root it, neither Once Click root method (earlier would not reboot the phone and Titanium said it wasn't rooted anyway and the second just said "failed" when it got to the end of the process).
So I decided to use the CF root method. I downloaded the various cf kernels here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 as I thought I needed to match the JS bit. So I tried JS3 which looped on intial screen the first time. JS5 and JS7 just hang on the first screen. Clearly I can get ODIN 3.07 to upload these kernels so I can get the phone to switch to download mode. THe problem is that it hangs and never boot.
I'm a bit of newbie with this stuff but I understand that as long as i can get into download mode I haven't bricked the beast. THe problem is that I donàt know how to out of this situation. I bet it's just a question of finding the right kernel and uploading with ODIN. Any suggestions? I presume the phone is still unrooted (or maybe not now that I have all these kernels uploaded through ODIN?)
Your help would be most appreciated.
Many thanks
Antonio

Mate,
cheers for this although the XXJVU ROM you suggested didn't work. I decided to give the XXJVT version a go which I downloaded from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and I tell you this rocks. I've finally got rotation working again and have got rid of all the crap that Orange installed.
Do you know if Jelly Bean works on the I9000 and how it performs? Is it worth installing on such an "old" device? BTW, I used the same pit file you attached. That did work. Thanks again.

No problem ever . yep, Jellybean works , infact it rocks ! . the stock gingerbread firmware is crap if compared with jellybean . I use cm 10.1 Android 4.2.2 makes my phone butter smooth doesn't matter its quite old though but works like a charm. did you root your phone ? using semaphore kernel ? you have to root it first to install jellybean for XXJVT , here's the link for the kernel :-
http://78.46.194.137/kernels/Semaphore_kernel_JVT_1.9.1.tar
flash it the way i told you , you have to select it in the PDA file option in Odin. hope it works for you now .
