I have CM7.2 and clockworkmod recovery. I've noticed recently that I'll snyc my facebook contacts, set my keyboard under settings, etc. If I reboot, all of that is gone. I have to uninstall facebook app and re-install to resync everything, I have to go into settings and re select my keyboards.
When I first flashed CM7 I did a full data wipe and rest, cleared cache, etc. I use Titanium Backup for scheduled backups if that matters. I don't actually know if other things are getting reset as well wen I reboot, but those are the obvious things I notice.
I would really like to avoid having to wipe this all and start from scratch.
Thanks in advance
Are you using something like s2e / apps2se? If so you may need to have Facebook data saving in internal memory rather than on the SD card.
That's about all I can think of, but hopefully it helps.

Yes, I do use apps2sd and have facebook saved to SD. I'll change that and see if it helps.
This actually doesn't make a lot of sense to me. And unfortunately, FB takes up around 12 MG on my phone, so I was trying to keep it on my SD. After I reboot, if I go into FB, it's set to don't sync contacts, even though I had previously set it to sync all contacts. I figured once the SD card is remounted, the synced info would come back.
Also, still not sure why my keyboards are all unchecked after reboot. Am I required to have Android Keyboard installed?

Unfortunately, that is the way it is if you move Facebook or Twitter app to SD and after reboot you will have to enter username and password again. My understanding is because of security concern.
You have your keyboard installed to the sdcard as well which is why you have to select it again on reboot.

I am using Vaniljeclair Release 11 on a Sprint HTC Touch, on the SD Card via Haret. My system isn't very stable, so I must occasionally reinstall the system. I recently reinstalled and reloaded my data partition from a backup. As a result, my GMail cache is now out of sync. There are plenty of pages which detail how to clear the cache, but they appear to be inappropriate for my system, as the expected entries do not exist in "Manage Applications."
How does one clear the cache and re-sync without those entries? Do I need to delete something with Astro?
Thanks,

my experiences in situations like this, you need to get rid of your backup and do a full clean boot. you can use astro to backup your apps, but as far as data, i have never been able to use a data restore- best suggestion- store as much on mmc as you can that way there is not that much to restore- just use astro to fine the file and open it again---
hope it helps
How I can backup aps with astro?

from astro, hit power button (to bring up sub menu) tap tools and that will give you the app manager/backup option.
So i finally flashed my first custom ROM, yeah!
BUT i pulled a bonehead move and forgot to copy contacts to the sd card I did do a full apps & data backup in TiBu before flashing. Now obviously the new rom has apps already loaded so i can't just drop the backup folder on the sd or it will overwrite the existing one, can i rename the one i backed today and restore from that one? OR can i just restore contacts somehow from the backup?

If you made a nandroid backup, you can restore it and try again.
You have an android phone, are your contacts synced with gmail? If not, you should start saving your contacts to gmail. I never backup contacts, I use gmail and Facebook to store my contacts.
If you didn't make a backup before you flashed your phone, and you didn't sync them with gmail ... how did you transfer them to your captivate originally? Do you still have that data?

If you did the full apps and data backup.. i believe your contacts "should" still be there. Go into tibu and to the backup/restore tab.. scroll down and it will be one of them that is in Green. I think says something along the lines of contacts. If you click that and then hit data only.. It "Should" restore your contacts. After you do that, you need to reboot your phone before you will see the contacts.
Now, however, it also depends on what Rom you put on. I have done this twice. The first time was when i installed Cog 3.04. I found out how to do that and i did it and my contacts went back on to my phone no problem.. Now, i have installed Andromeda 2.0 and when i tried to do that, swype bugs out like crazy . some bug with their new Rom that wont let you do it. I am guessing it has something to do with the app versions or something. Luckily for me, most of my contacts were saved through google.. so i got the most of them back. only missing a few ..
So, give this a try.. and see if that works for you..

Hi all,
I am currently using Webstar's Ultimate ROM v7.2 but have decided to switch to Darky's latest.
I plan to do a full wipe during the installation.
I have downloaded titanium backup from the Market, and paid for the full version. But I don’t know how to use it!
I’ve just told it to do a batch backup of all user apps and data.
When I install the wipe ROM I will of course be wanting to restore EVERYTHING.
Will titanium be able to do this? Will it restore all my apps/ games/ games scores [angry birds/ grave defence Etc]?
Will it restore all my SMS/ Emails?
Will it restore my desktop wallpaper/ widgets/ launcher pro settings?
Finally when I come to do the restore, do I select the RUN – restore missing apps + all system data?
Thank you all in advance
Matt
Sometimes i have noticed that if you backup system data and restore it on another rom it can cause some issues (FC's Unresponsiveness, Apps not working) so its always best to do a wipe version... you can backup Apps + App data but i never backup system data if im moving ROM. but thats upto you...
and as for your sms/ wallpapers/ homescreen arrangement it will not save them.. but some launchers have the option to backup the homescreen so check that first... anything on your internal sd card. back up to your PC.

I agree with azzledazzle.
Use titanium backup to restore your apps and save data but i would use it for much else than that.
When you wipe your phone it will ask you to input your email account anyway on the first boot up So all your email will be back,
You will lose your sms though...
If you use gmail sync all your contact to your gmail account so they will all be put back on your phone autimatically on the first boot.
Hope that helps a bit.

+1 this is the best method. your emails will stay intact, as for a few sms there not worth keeping (unless they are dirty sms from a dirty woman) lol
Got the ICS OTA update. Liking it, but read hear and on other forums a Factory default result is recommended to clear/clean up remnants
from Gingerbread. I dont know who it works, but since I've downloaded and tried hundreds of other apps, I bet they have remnants laying around also.
I've rooted my phone (razs_edge)
I've installed the free version of Titanium Backup and ran a backup with system data + all apps +data
I've about to due the FDR. Should I also wipe the internal SD card? or just the FDR?
Once FDR is done, should I actually restore EVERYTHING. or will that restore to much?
I just want plain system data back, and they the apps that I really want to keep.
which restore method do you suggest?
The best way to restore after an FDR is to let your apps restore from the Market. Most will restore automatically, the rest you can restore manually. The only things I would restore from a TiBu would be data from user apps like games, or things like bookmarks. Restoring System apps and most system data is a good way to mess up your clean FDR. Your sd-ext is not wiped by an FDR, but I think the internal sdcard is. Just back it up to the computer before the FDR so you can restore any of it if necessary. All your gmail and gcontacts will be back on sync if you've set 'Back up my data' and 'Automatic restore' under settings > Backup and reset.

Great reply! Thanks.
I know contacts and calendar and stuff will be restored from Google servers. Not sure how important to me they are,
but are SMS messages restored from Google. or do I restore those manually via TiBu? I glaced at the 270ish entries and nothing jumped
out at being the one for SMS messages.
Thanks.
Sorry, forgot about sms because I use Google Voice and they stay in the cloud (and remain available) unless I delete them. I think there is an app in Play Market that will backup/restore your messages. I think TiBu can do that also, but I'm not sure which setting does that.
Edit: In TiBu, if you touch the 'folder' thing at the top right, and choose to backup all user apps + data, you can select 'Messages(SMS & MMS)' to back them up.

Great thanks. I didnt know what the sms/mms was called. If I had scrolled through the list slower I would have seen the green font
(must be for system apps and/or data) names messages (sms/mms). so it does appear to save those.
still very new to TiBu. I'll learn. Thanks for the help.
Hi all.
My GT-I9000 had been working fine with Cyanogen mod 9. Until about a week ago, the phone gave low memory warning in the notification bar. The notification persisted despite having uninstalled several unused apps. And finally the day came that apps keeps crashing until the point that apps would refuse to launch. So I thought I'll simply need to reboot the phone to refresh the memory, but what happened was I was forever stuck in Cyanogen mod 9 boot animation and could only get away with a battery pull. I'm definitely sure that I still have plenty of space left for apps/data/media. I would be much appreciated if some one could point out the cause and how to solve it. My phone could still enter Clock Work Recovery and despite having tried reflash Cyanogen mod 9 from CWM menu, that didn't solve the problem, neither did clear dalvik cache.
Yhaa it's annoying

I think it's because of the datadata partition is ful, and instead of deleting apps you can just move them to sd.
For now you have tow options, 1. delete all user data factory reset, wwich will delete all apps including data.
2. delete menual some apps from /data/app, you can do so with aroma file manager using costum kenels.
e.g. semaphore

Thank you. I will later try one of your solutions later.
But first, some questions. Since you said the data/data partition can be fulled. Does that mean I've reached my limit of app installation? Indeed I don't have that many apps.
Factory reset seems to be a simple solution. But since I have no chance to make data backup with titanium. Does my apps data be backup by google backup service?

Just bit the bullet and did a factory reset. I re installed the app one by one. Their data is backed up by either google backup service or their corresponding cloud service. Good as new and happy again.

You can try with a wipe cache+dalvik in recovery mode, if it doesn't work, try with a wipe data+cache+dalvik or reflash the ROM

Tnx for the reply. Yep, I've tried reflashed the rom (as mentioned in the original post) and that didn't help. The most important thing is now I'm back to normal again. This time I'll try to move any big apps (sygic...) to external SD card. Luckily the apps I use have their backup taken care of by cloud service.
