FIREWALL - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear friends,
I like android very much after apple's iphone,
I would like to know more about internet firewall,
is it possible or is there any aap, which can show us which app is connecting which site?
If somebody knows, pls let me know.
Thanks in adv.

Frm my experience there is no need of using a antivirus or firewall..i think it may lag..if u wanna remove ads use ad free

Most common apps that connect to the internet are those paid apps to check and verify that the apps is paid and block ads.

That's true bt even than also if we personally wants to verify the app is not spam.

Yes! There are a few.
I use LBE Privacy Guard and DroidWall, both require root though obviously.
LBE can block sms, phone, imei, contact reading as well as internet/wifi access per app and warns you when they try to access them (which you can then permanantly block or allow once etc..)

[Q] Security apps.

Are security apps like Lookout, Norton etc worth installing? Samsung already has find, lock and wipe via Samsung dive website so is an app necessary?
If it is worth getting one which is the most recommended?

I use Lookout as a safety precaution and have had no trouble with it. The mobile world is getting more dangerous, so I figure every little bit of protection helps.
If such programs aren't essential yet today...they will be tomorrow.

Is there any way to install Samsung Dive on a Custom ROM?
Can I extract the apk from SamFirmware.com?
I use LBE security and Droidwall (IPtables frontend gui). The problem is, unless you use hardcore's speedmod kernel, you can't block ipv6 in Droidwall, which is bad considering the I9000 will try connect over ipv6 first. LBE gives you a list of all apps, their required permissions and the ability to block these individual permissions.
As far as Norton goes, if their Android software is anything like it is for pc, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole!!
the app: SeekDroid is good, you can find your device and so on(better than Samsung Dive)
Little out of topic

[Q] anybody get this?

i keep on getting these types of notifications and im concerned if they may be a virus, although i know viruses on phones are i guess rare compared to computers... anybody else get these? what are they?
Its just an intrusive form of advertisements. Try removing apps you installed when this started.
If you are worried of it being a virus, download an antivirus. I use avast. It is free on the playstore.

i forgot to mention that i installed an ad blocker script using rom toolbox and have downloaded an antivirus and scanned my phone but it said it had no viruses, so it seems odd to me that ive taken these steps and these notifications still go through
Trying using Lookout Ad Network Detector to find the app that's sending these advertisements. I've used this app on my phone and it worked.

After the Lookout app scans your phone, it should tell you which apps on your phone are sending these ads. In order for the ads to stop coming you have to uninstall those apps.

If you know what you're doing then no. If you don't know and download apps from sources other then the play store then you might want to consider.

I have been using the free Avast anti-virus for years on all of my android phones, and it gets the top maks out of all the android anti-virus`s and i have never noticed and drop in battery life or performance.
Avast has never notified me of any Virus as i was downloading an app, so that might tell you something, maybe we dont need an anti-virus at all?
It has a firewall, but you need to be rooted for it to work.
John.
AV is same as any other app. Because it don't have all access rights it can't scan and control other apps. All it can is to get names list of installed apps, send it to AV HQ and get response from HQ.
It's useless. This is Android not Windows. Just ignore acticles written by antivirus companies. They want to scare you to use their crappy apps.

[app discussion] [antivirus]

I find many people having confusions about antivirus......... Many of them work quite the same way..........
Some of the FAQ's I've faced these days are....
1. Which antivirus is the best of all?
2. Some virus are detected in my pc which the app can't detect.... Is my antivirus not good enough?
3. Is the antivirus worth being "paid"?
Etc.....
That's y I decided to open this thread to help these users......
Plz post which antivirus is the best (according to u) and why.....

Btw I personally use avast antivirus paid version....... Having root elevates the app by adding a firewall....... Except antivirus it has many features like call blocker, remote control, etc...

I am using AVG internet security 2014(Cracked,not paid, and working with a licence to 2018),and it disables the virus before it even entered my pc over 1000 times from many sites. It is worth paying, but it isnt necessary,as you can get the pro keys for free
I use AntiVirus PRO which is AVG because ir detects all kind of malaware.
Regards
I'm using avast! Free Antivirus on my Windows computers/laptops.
On my tablet I use avast! Security. The firewall (with root) is great. I'm also using the Anti Theft feature, which you can push to /system so you can track your tablet even if the thief uses factory reset.
I am using AVG pro version..
Why??
It protects my phone and alse heps me to lock apps madhe make app backup...
Its like all in one app and i personally like it...

Restricate internet(mobile data),,built it setting!!!

Dear all,
I was wondering if we have any built in setting to totally restricate(not background data) mobile internet for few selected apps!! I used lbe security in previous xsola mobile. Since we dont have root n its kinda messy to use third party app to do these things. Since i use only mobile data need to save some data. If there is somthing like that setting kindly share with me. I would be very happy ... I saw these setting in my brothers iphone. I was so jelouse :banghead:

You could try Juice Defender Ultimate. This app has a lot of futures to handle sync and blocking on per app basis.
There's root if you really seem to need it btw.
