(Q) how to convert rfs to ext4 on xxjw4? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi can anybody help how do I convert and converting to ext4 is also called voodoo lagfix?
Any ext4 apk file can covert or is it specific to every firmware?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2

your kernel has to support ext4. for example you could use chainfires cf-root kernel for jw4 and install the ext4 addon
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
please read the instructions carefully prior to flashing / converting!

ext4 will make you phone to have micro laggs and struttering 3d games rfs is working ok now

I used ext4 1.3
Everything converted to ext4 except filesystem
It failed cox of not enough memory
And rolled back
Any help?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2

From the original CF-Root thread:
"Please note that when first using the tool to convert, you will probably notice /system is not converted. If this happens, it is because /system does not have enough free space for the extra space overhead of ext4. You will need to free up some space on /system before the conversion will succeed."
So what you wanna do is delete something in /system using some root file manager, for example ringtones in /system/media/audio or unused apps in /system/app, few MB should be enough. Be careful what you delete though, as this can really mess things up!

Give up ext4. Use it RFS much better.

You asked this is another thread already. And i already answered it. From what you asked there you don't even have the need to convert anything.

Partitioning SD via CWM

Im going to follow these steps:
1. Boot recovery
2. Advanced > Partition SD Card
3. Select 1024 mb
4. Select 0M
5. Wait...
These steps are correct?
I have already made a backup of my files

[Q] Linking Dex

Before... I used to link Dex to SD from the APKs using Link2SD...
But now, it can still link but after reboot, the Dex is not linked to SD but to DATA partition...
This time... I can no longer install many heavy apps such as Quickoffice (Dex 7.69MB)...
Please recommend me a ROM that can link Dex to SD and won't move to DATA partition after reboot...
PS: It seems older MiniCM7 works but I don't know what version...
I know how DEX works but I rather don't need it... Space is more important for me.
EDIT:
Delete all kinds of script interfering Link2SD, this includes, A2SD, Apps2SD, Mounts2SD, S2E init.d scripts... located on system/etc/init.d
I've used link2sd on gdx 18+ and rc1 and it works ok.

Does ODEXED ROMs uses less space on DATA partition? Because I'm using GingerEricsson (Fail) is DEODEXED ROM uses at least more or less 40 MB of the DATA partition on first use... NO user apps installed...
I think odexing uses more /data space. That's how it seems in /system/app. But i'm no expert in this. Let's wait for someone who can answer that.

I've just tried GingerZaraki today (ODEXED ROM), and it seems uses little /data size. What I know ODEXED ROMs' dex are also inside their own folder which is included in the ROM, that could be the reason why it's heavy than DEODEXED ROMs.
I'm still not sure if it's okay to use CM7 built-in apps2sd (ext partition)...

Well, tbh i really prefer link2sd. Lots more features than the native apps2d.

Same here . Waiting for a kernel so I can use 2swap again, which works by using a patrician on the internal SD to make it ram
Sent from the man in Your attic.....
Create an ext partition, on sdcard in ext2 and install link2sd https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD&hl=fr
or use the script http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342387 I did not test this solution
Your making your life really complicated, u can possibly brick your phone messing with the internal memory.. just buy an 32g external and problem will be solved

Link2sd have been working great with me since gb and ics. You will not brick your device if you carefully root your device. I'm using 64gig xdhc.

Delete what? Unnecessary crap? Go to system/app and remove things you don't need/want. I suspect that you're a bit noobish, so check out the thread, "Applications that's Safe To Remove", or something like that (just scroll up).

Keep out microsd, Go in cwm, partition sd-card internal, then format reinstall Rom... in android go in play store install link2sd, launch app first time, then you can install all other app.

If I understand the question correctly, he wants to know how to increase RAM, not storage. Storage is not a big deal both internal or external. But RAM is only 800+M and mostly 700+M is occupied and makes Note sluggish sometimes. Anyway, this is my first post at xda and greetings to each & every1 of you
Use TB
Just install Titanium Backup and goto Batch mode then scroll down to Un-Install all user and system apps. Then follow this link https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html to see whats safe to remove. Remove all that you do not require and you will find a huge difference in space which will speed up your device as well. Hope this helps.

This post explains how:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887864
You need at least noob knowledge of adb (ie copy-pasting commands).
The second command was
parted /dev/block/mmcblk0
rather than
parted /dev/block/mmcblock0
I've just done it on my Note.

[SHARE][UNIVERSAL/ANY ROM/DEVICE] CronMOD INT2EXT Script

THIS WILL NOT WORK ON STOCK ROM (Need init.d Support)
INT2EXT+ and INT2EXT4+:
- Mounts /sd-ext to /data
- Leaves /data/data on internal for more speed
- Works with EXT2/3/4 file system
- ZipAligns /data/app on every boot
- No symlinks
- First Universal INT2EXT Method
INT2EXT:
- DOES WHAT INT2EXT+ DOES BUT IT ALSO MOVES /data/data PATITION WHICH MEANS YOU CAN CREATE ANY AMOUNT OF INTERNAL MEMORY (sd-ext)... BUT IT WOULD LAG A BIT...
No need to follow notes for INT2EXT.
Just flash as any other script but do mount /system, /data and /sd-ext before flashing....
Also ensure to remove any other script installed before installing this one....
NOTES:
(Only for INT2EXT+ and INT2EXT4+)
For every 512MB sd-ext partition you need a 100MB space on /data. So please limit your sd-ext patition to 1GB max.
INT2EXT+ works with EXT2/3/4 partitions BUT INT2EXT4+ works with ONLY EXT4 partition.

Which script are you using? If it's S2E then just untick all settings in S2E and reboot. Then uninstall it and also delete its init.d script but leave the defaults like 00banner and 90userinit.
I mean.. Do I need to partition my SDcard with EXT4 partition?? And not EXT3??? how can I do that?

Yes indeed, you can use Minitool Partition Wizard.
Sir.. can i use this script in CM7?
Thanks.
Hi, I'm testing on a 10.1 (26/01/2013)Experimental and it seems to work
Hi OP and @All please add INT2EXT+ also to the first post as I have fixed it too.:good:

for those who want it.Should allow those who dont have ext4 formatted sd-ext partitions to enjoy it too:highfiveas it works for ext2,ext3,ext4).
@OP also add the NOTES that are mentioned in the first post on my thread as they are kind of important.(helps Noob-Proof the thread).
And also sorry for forgetting you guys.
PS @OP its not anything like michie's script thats based on amazullz's app2sdx this is cronmod and is nearly as old and on a different concept

Yes it should as the fix was only a mounting workaround due to erroneous busybox permissions.
else you can always go to the original thread and use it(personally safer and also am using it now on official cm7)
