Hi guys, I tend to flash ROM's pretty frequently. I've noticed that my headphones stopped working properly. I only heard the audio on my left headphone and not the one on the right. Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance. This is a great community we have here. I have new headphones so I don't believe that is the problem.
That's usually the problem when only works. Have you tried them on anything else to confirm? Maybe there's debris blocking contact

Thanks for your response be-eock. Love your work here on xda. I tried my new headphones on other things and they are working great. It is only when I use them on my phone that I only get audio on the left side.

Try cleaning out the jack for the headphones.
I tried cleaning it out with a q-tip and got some minor cleaning done but no luck with the headphone sound. I tried voodoo sound to push mono instead of stereo through the headphones but no luck.

I have finally figured out what the problem is. The headphone jack is starting to go. When I press down on the headphone while in the jack I was able to finally get sound out of the right-headphone. Thanks for the suggestions. Now I have to figure out how to replace the jack.

Most likely it's fried.
You just put a lot more voltage into that circuit than it was designed to handle. Best case scenario is some sort of fuse is blown that can be replaced. My guess is that it's not going to work like that, although someone more knowledgeable about small electronics would probably be able to speak with more authority than me.
If you're still under warranty or have insurance, you could try flashing back to stock and taking it to a warranty center.
It's only $20 to replace, I did it, easy.

Sony ericsson and other brands switched the pins on the headset plug so you can only use that specific plug. You need a converter in order to make them work.. I know, it sucks.. There is a thread about that somewhere.

This only affects headphones with microphone.

damn. but thanks anyway.
I had the same problem with my old skull candy headphones that had a mic.
I solved it by ripping the plasstic cover up abit thats on the jack. so it pushes in deeper on ur phone.

Test a new headphone with mick. if it doesn't work, it's a problem with your jack. But the whole jack isn't out of function it's just the first connector. that means that you can't use tv-out too

Yeah i tried other headphones with mic ones and that too had problems ... some work and some dont ...

Fake headphones will not function properly with Galaxy S.
Mic is available only with the headphones that came in the box.
Other headphones with mic give only sound output, while the mic remains non-functional.

As u see, different headphones from different manufacturers have different load resistances. And this load resistance is responsible for the quality of output you get. So, the the stock headphones are best matched to the phones output capacity for best results.
I suggest you try some other I9000s headphones before you go for sound jack replacement.

Well this may sound dumb. But make sure you have really pushed the jack into the port.

I got a a-jays one+ headset and found it was not compatible with Galaxy S . The sound was very low and only when I pressed the remote button (mic button) the audio was clear. Got to know frm the customer care that only handsets that have American Headset jack (AHJ) are compatible . I was suggested to go for a converter to use the headset. Anyways planning for handset upgrade(definitely will go for a handset with AHJ).
Hope it helps....Anyone with links to order AHJ converters are welcome to help the threadstarter.
Thanks

I changed the audio output of the phone ... the problem remained ..!! :crying:
Hello, my I9000 is about 4-5 years old, I've been having trouble recently with the audio port.
Some headphones will go in but pop back out, like it's on a spring. Some will go in but my phone struggles to recognise them, when it does the slightest movement will disconnect them.
I've had a look to see if anything is stuck and I can't see anything inside the port.
Anyone have any tips or solutions that may help?

Problem solved.
Inserted a cotton bud (q tip to our American friends) into the audio port and cleaned it out, came out a little dirty. Now it accepts all headphones and even sounds better than before.

Suddenly my device didn't recognize the earphone that come with htc one (the earphone isn't broken because I test on another device it works) .. lately I use the connector.. but today I should push hard to the jack in the device for recognized that earphone is plugged..
I could use soundAbout app in the store but I feel the output quality in the earphone isn't nice (decreased bass etc.)
Should I claim the warranty ? And is there Anyone who had same issue?

I had a similar problem but when I breathe on the earphone's output it works just fine for a very long time.. for such a long time that I didn't have to do it again. But maybe it was luck.
Try to use a different earphone on your device and if there are the same/similar issues... claim warranty.
I already did cleaning the jack port but no luck..yep I would going to claim about this issue thx
