I bought a phone which was on orange-UK, the shopkeeper when gave it to me he used some code which i wrote down on first startup which unlcoked it.
I rooted it > success (with one click root)
ryanZ one click lag fix > did not work, phone stopped booting > went into 2e recovery and factory reset resolved the problem and i didnt tried to lag fix again...
yesterday found Darky's rom and docrom mod
doc's rom mods: http://forum. xda- developers.com/showthread.php?t=807848&highlight=doc
darky : http://forum. xda - developers .com/showthread.php?t=814091
and downloaded both....
copied everything needed, installed darky, my both internal and external sd cards didnt work....
flashed with odin on original factory stock eclair rom .... did again .... nothing....
flashed again with odin (coulnt access internal card, obviously) ... stock rom worked fine, both cards mounted....
then didnt do the darky one, did the other doc's .... same problem...
thought there may be some files remaining form the un succesful lag fix of ryanz ...
flashed again with odin, formatted everyhing all memory cards.... did doc's rom, now with sd card sitting on my table rather than in the phone ... internal sd card detected...
inserted external sd , didnt mount... did a couple of times more , no success...
Now I am using doc's rom and I cant use my external SD card... its a 4gig kingston one....
BTW when sd card is not accessible in the O, if you reboot into clockworkmod, it accesses it... so its something else...
I did the following post on darky's thread on page 53 i think... and the issue i thought was this:
"
Hi its me again, i found out where the problem is.... after the rom installs (not just darky, the other doc rom on which its based too) if there is no external memory card installed internal memory card appears fine...
(BTW i used odin to flash the factory eclair, repartition and format everything) after that did that 3 times with ur rom and doc mod one released on the 14th of the month if i remember correctly....
On each boot if there is no external memory card in the slot the internal sd card is usable, if at boot it is installed both are not mounted and are un useable.
Both these roms with the vodoo creates two folder "sd" and "external_sd" on the "/mnt/sdcard" address... and normally on the stock rom this sd folder is where the SGS mounts the external sd as a folder.... so i think vodoo does its magic and so SD cards (external) are unuseable with these roms or this version...
Couldnt quite understand....
Please check this on 3.0 version that if there is an external sd card inserted on the first boot and the subsequent boot as well , is that use able or does it render both the memory cards un mounted and you cant mount them either...
IS IT JUST ME OR SHOULD I POST THIS THREAD AS A SEPERATE ISSUE WITH DARKY / DOC ROMS (i have not tried the slim kalpik+doc version yet, got exhausted after flashing to stock for three times in one day and then reverting back here only to find out that "dont bloody put ur SD in... and use the internal memory only"
plzzzzzzzz help....
"
edit: turns out there is one guy who replied that he is able to access both memory cards on darky.....
Please anybody... Mr. kalpik, Mr. Tayutama, Mr. Docrombone .... (plz dont mind the spell)
Could anybody help.... What is it I am missing.....
Bit strange, first time i see this error.
You have the standard I9000?
What was the stock rom that the phone was shipped with?
Product code on your phone now?
If you are using my files, when it opens it shows /sdcard on top. Scroll down to sd. Thats your external card. Hope this helps.

@ DocRambone
Yes this is standard I9000
i was originally on BVGJ4 i think (something like that ) (the eclair for Orange UK)... i cant quite remember this.....sorry
but then i flashed with odin with the stock rom that i got from the forums.... here
http://forum. xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=816890&highlight=uploading+stock&page=2
then i went into 2e recovery then into clockworkmod and flashed the one i provided link above....
now the product code is I9000HKDXEE in nv_data.bin (used SGS tollbox to see that, its the same as backed up one)
other info currently is:
PDA: I9000XWJP6
PHONE: I9000XXJPM
CSC: I9000XEEJP4
But these things are i presume, due to the firmware currently installed... (i am a newbie, so... dont know abt product code stuff)
Cant we just flash some rom with odin which makes this phone a WWE >>> ?
@ragin
I used the stocck rom from the link provided above....

I used the one link i provided in the post above.... the thing is that if the sd card is in the phone and then u turn the phone on, no card is detected... neither internal nor external,
if not then, if u power it on if the external sd card is out then it shows the internal but when u insert the sd card, nothing happpens...
The rom i installed has already created a folder named "sd" and a second folder "external_sd" on the root of the external sd ..... so external sd is not mounted there...
if you go into recovery and then into clockworkmod recovery and u go into sd cards and mounts and then try to mount the sd it gives an error
/dev/block/mmcblk0 (cant remember exact file name) already exists cant mount sd....
SO thats why i was thinking that maybe voodoo has created some file or this file is causing the problem.
should i try to find where this file is and try to delete from a root file manager...????
I M BLOODY STUCK...
CANT THERE BE A WAY TO FLASH A ROM WHICH RENDERS THE PHONE INTO A FACTORY NEW PHONE STATE AND I COULD PLAY LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE IS???
what are the compatible file systems of the external sd cards for froyo roms??
fat16 / 32 / ext2 / ext 4 ????
@urhhoney
i had the same problem after apllying the darky steel rom on the tayutama rom (i disabled the lag fix first), i flashed the stock WJM9 then the CF root and recovery kernel then darky steel again but the external sd card didnot work but i noticed some errors in recovery mode about mounting the cach folder so i flashed WJM5 then WJM9 and CF kernel then applied darky steel rom and the sd card worked fine this time.
Hi all,
I have some trouble figuring out what's happening with my Galaxy S internal sdcard.
first, I lost part of my phone during a call. phone fell in a rebooting loop. since then ; HELL !
I followed each and every post of about 200 threads to get my phone back like (not limited too) :
- flashed 2.1 (2.2) original firmware with Odin
- flashed all existing ROMS (or almost) with .pit, pda via Odin
- all mount unmount things (now grayed in menu with no available message)
- messing around with adb fdisk, mount, format, etc
- did all possible combination of reset, hard reset, wipe, format from phone or recovery
- tried repartitioning card (with gparted once)
- formating via usb from window 7
well, you got the picture !
now the strange things are :
- phone boot ok with any ROM, now with Darky resurection 10.1
- call, gps, messaging are all ok
- no sdcard visible from within the phone or from windows, so no camera or music or any apps that needs to write to sdcard is possible
- a 2go partition exists on the 16go internal sdcard
- if external sdcard is removed, phone never boot pass logo, although I can go in recovery mode and manage to see all files on internal sdcard with adb shell
- mmcblk0p1 and mmcblk0p2 are only visible when external sdcard is in the phone so I guess the 14go partition failed once to load and system recorded external sdcard as the internal sdcard.
I need a way to put sdcards in the right place as I'm pretty sure the internal one is not fried but only lost a partition probably due to lagfix or a corrupt filesystem.
I'm no expert at all with linux OS or partitioning but I'm sure that's the way to go and I know there's a great bunch of devoted developers in here
PR
ps. I'm willing to pay if anyone can get me out of there FAST
I suspect this could be down to bootloaders, 10.1 requires ficeto JVH base right ? and that requires GB bootloaders, im not 100% sure, ive not used his roms for quite some time.
but im sure your problem lies there somewhere.

phone boot ok with all ROMs with any XXX base I tried so I installed 10.1
whatever the ROM, issues are all the same as mentioned above
this won't b easy
well flash back to froyo or eclair, use a 3 file firmware with pit and re-partition
then when that is successful flash this : http://sourceforge.net/projects/teamhacksung/files/galaxys/GT-I9000_FROYO_FULL_PDA.tar/download
then report back please
you dont have the I9000 M<< do you ??

ok done flashing
manage to reboot phone WITHOUT external sdcard.
still don't have access to the 14go internal sdcard partition, although ROM is installed on it (maybe on the 2go partition).
external card is recognized but only with unmount option as size is indicating 00 (of 16go) so cannot use it to store anything from phone (camera, music, etc) will try a empty 8go
any idea about internal sdcard ?
few more white hairs
you didnt state whether you had the M version of the SGS, this is known for its internal sd failures.
also boot into recovery, is there any error messages ?
I have Vibrant version from Bell, GT-I9000 from about phone menu
still cannot mount external sdcard
recovery report no error so far
the bell version of the i9000 is the one that suffers from internal sd card corruption.
there have been many reports of this, i feel you could be another on the ever growing list.
Have a read of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905975
if that brings you no luck, i would suggest you ring bell / samsung for a repair / replacement
Hello,
So I was running on stock JVR+ Galaxian kernel. I then flashed block buster rom and all went fine. After that, I opened the ext4 tool and pressed convert to ext4, the phone went to recovery and then rebooted. Everything was fine but I noted that my internal sd card is not detected anymore! It says unavailable and even mass storage through the usb is not working. I formated my sd-card through the cwm recovery but still no luck. I even tried using the ext4 tool to convert back to rfs but it doesnt convert When I remove battery and plug again, the sd-card shows! but after reboot it doesnt!! Please help
Maybe try reflash JVR ?
Well i flashed stock and then did a clean flash of block buster rom, everything is fine but after the second reboot,my phone cant detect my internal memory!! Its say 0mb and i cant access 'my files'! Even titanium doesnt show internal memory :-\

Hey All -
So even though I'm running two successfully rooted Samsung Captivates, both running the Dark Knight Rom Cyanogen 9 CWM, I'm super new to this, and am in need of some serious assistance. Recently my phone was accidentally factory reset by one of my kids, and after that it wouldn't boot. Luckily I bought some little gadget that shorts something in the device and puts it into download mode (it's been so long I have no idea what it was even called at this point). Anyway, I was able to flash the stock 2.1-Update1 Rom to the phone - which worked. Except ever since then I cannot download anything. I can't update anything. It says the internal sd card cannot be mounted, along with the external sd card. I know there's space - and the external sd card is 16Gb also. I'm really not sure what's going on. I've read somewhere that it could be some kind of corruption - but how do I format the internal drive if it can't mount or recognize it?
Any help is greatly appreciated beyond words. Thanks!

I'm not so sure why your internal and external aren't mounting but try to flash Odin KK4 with bootloaders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18370912&postcount=3
That will give you stuck 2.3.5 (GB). From there, you can follow this link to root and get cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26710533&postcount=1 . -If you wanna get into custom ROMs, simply look in the Dev section for one that you like and follow it's full instructions.
I'm not 100% sure flashing Odin KK4 will fix your issue but it's a first step, let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice. So - using the Odin KK4 Bootloader one-click worked well - My device is now running GB 2.3.5. However, I still cannot mount the internal or external SD cards. I know this isn't the hardware in the device, because one thing did change.
When I was running Eclair 2.1-update1, I couldn't download or install ANYTHING - as SOON as I began a download it would FAIL - because it was reading there was no space. Well, After using the Odin one-click, the phone is partitioned differently, and I CAN download and install apps. BUT - here's what it says under settings/Storage Settings:
-------------------------------------
SD Card
Total Space:
Unavailable
Available Space:
Unavailable
Mount SD card
Mount SD card*
Format SD card
Erases all data on device's SD card, such as
music and photos
-----------------------------
USB storage
Total Space:
Unavailable
Available Space:
Unavailable
Format USB storage:
Erase all data on device's USB storage, such
as music and photos
------------------------------------
System storage
Available space:
1.77GB
--------------------------------------------
So I'm able to use the partition for "system storage" - I downloaded and installed an app just to be sure, and sure enough, my internal storage went from the 1.77Gb to 1.76 Gb - and the app installed properly.
When I try to use the camera, an error message reads:
"Turn off USB storage before using camera"
Also - when I try to click "Mount SD Card" under SD Card in storage settings it just sits there saying "mounting SD Card" until I give up and quit. It never actually mounts. Someone mentioned doing an RUU, or that I possibly lost my IMEI? But let me preface this message by saying I have knowledge of neither of those things. And it's a Jig that I use to put myself into download mode. Such a noob. lol. Thanks for the help so far. We're making progress...
Sheesh... So I just removed the SD card (external micro sd card) and immediately it told me it had been removed. Then an error proceeded to appear which disappeared too quickly to write down. It was something along the lines of:
"Process android. media.hub has stopped working...."
Then the phone reboot, and is now stuck in an infinite boot loop, where it simply continuously plays the opening 3G ATT intro video followed by the galaxy S intro video then repeats - for eternity. I've removed the SIM and Battery and tried again. Same results. So now it appears I"m stuck in an endless boot. Should I re-flash with Odin?
UPDATE:
So I ended up re-flashing - but this time, I took out the External SD card (I had left this in previously). This time - after showing a PASS with Odin and rebooting - applying the update FAILED. It said it couldn't mount E:/. I did this two more times to ensure this was not a fluke, and reached the same outcome. So I slapped the external SD card back in, and re-flashed, and VOILA - it worked. I'm back up and running - though STILL not able to mount my internal or external storage - and apparently - if I remove my external card, I'll enter an endless bootloop until I re-flash.
Did u try... pull battery, replace, reboot ? If no go then,
U could try to use the button combo to reboot into recovery and wipe data/factory reset then reboot. Try that before Odin One Click.

Unfortunately, yes. I did all those things prior to flashing with Odin. It seems that the initial flash goes smoothly, but then when I reboot the phone - for whatever reason - it's stuck in an infinite boot loop. I'm really confused here. Maybe I should try going back to stock Eclair again?
dont think going back to froyo will help.
keep the sd card in the phone, reflash kk4, then flash corn kernel.
it may be that your ICS rom (cm 9) had the EU error and your system is now using your 16 GB card as the 'internal usb storage' and the original internal sd is no longer available.
from kk4 with corn kernel, you can leave the sd card in the phone and try flashing the stable cm10 or a cm10.1 nightly.
you will need to flash it twice because jelly bean changes file partition scheme,
then flash gapps.
cm10 has the smarts to recognize a phone that has the EU error and will swap the partitions to make it work with your external sd.
you will find threads in the Captivate development forum with links and instructions for cm10 and 10.1 including links to gapps.
if you got the EU error, this fix should give you about 13 gb of user usb storage, it will actually be using your external sd. no known way to recover your internal storage.

Hey thanks man. I'll give it a shot after work today. That's fine since I have a 16Gb External SD card. My only concern is that I still won't be able to use the camera since it tells me now I need to stop using USB storage to use the camera. But I'll try it out and let you know what happens. Thanks.

So I flashed KK4, then added the corn kernel - but now I'm stuck. Remember my sd card won't mount properly, so to flash anything I need to use odin... Can I flash CM10.1 using odin? I tried doing this using a 10.1CM nightly, but it failed and wouldn't proceed.
UPDATE: So I redid this process and had a lot more SUCCESS!
I was able to mount the SD card through Corn Kernel and transfer a stable CM10 release, then flash successfully.
After boot it launched the CWM6 interface where I factory reset and cleared cache.
I rebooted and the phone booted successfully! It show's I'm on Jelly Bean and have 1.7 Gb of internal memory and 13 Gb of SD Card memory!
Thanks so much! My internal storage DOES seem to be gone - forever. But as long as this continues to work I don't see that as an issue... 16 Gb is plenty!
camera still says I have no SD card - but I'm going to try and download a different camera application.
Glad to hear it worked out okay. There may be a setting in gallery app that could fix the camera, idk. Camera app in jb is part of gallery apps.

Hi, tdunlavey,
I was having an issue similar to yours, and I've flashed kk4 and Corn Kernel, and I can boot up the phone now (yay!). But I don't understand how to mount the SD card through Corn Kernel and transfer CM10. Can you tell me how you did that? I would really appreciate it.

Go in recovery, mount/storage, mount SD card.
Hi... I actually tried that, and then I ended up back in a bootloop and had to reflash. I think that I'm in a situation where the internal SD card is lost and the phone is using the external card to boot up. And I suspect that when I tried to mount the card in recovery, it tried to access the internal storage and couldn't. This is all a guess. I'm a total newb at this stuff.
Also, my PC can't access mass storage on my phone. I was trying to move the CM10 zipped file onto the phone, but I got the "insert disc in drive E" error (for both drives E and F). When I look in settings, it has "Unmount SD Card" highlighted, so I couldn't choose "mount SD card" to get the PC to recognize the drive. I tried unmounting and remounting, but once I unmounted in settings, it wouldn't mount the card in settings, so I had to restart the phone.
Also, wifi doesn't work. When I try to turn it on, it just says "error". I can't access the Market, and most apps won't work. The phone works, texting works, the 3G works (I can use the browser or maps app), but it seems nothing else wants to work.
I appreciate any other ideas you have!

Sounds like your SD card might be dead.
You might have to swap everything to your external SD to have them work (like market and other apps). Sadly the internal storage isn't easy to replace so you either have to get another phone, motherboard or try to use it with the external SD.
replace external sd card with internal sd card
Hi friends
I will worke good news for the peoples who r using cyanogen mod and want to replace external sdcard with internal.
I was also on that situation before few hours. I solved this by my own.
It is very simple and no need to install any extra app. Just enter these following comands on terminal which is built-in on cyanogen mod.
1 . open the terminal
2 . su
3 . mount -o bind /mnt/sdcard /external_sd/external_sd
4 . mount -o bind /mnt/external_sd /sdcard
5 . mount -o bind /mnt/external_sd/external_sd /external_sd
Then close the terminal and chek ur storage or sd card options.
It will work 100% on each Android device running any cyanogen mod.
I have samsung galaxy w gt i 8150 with cyanogen mod10.1 alpha 6 jelly bean 4.2.2
Im sure it will work on you're device too. Don't worry just open terminal and enter these commands and see the magic.
Dont forget spaces u can see on commands.
Thank you.
Hello,
I normally can get by pretty well, and I have done numerous searches before posting for help. This time I have really run into a brick wall, and I really need help here.
Basically, I did something really stupid where I did not know that the phone had been booting off a external SD (my mom gave it back to me like that). Actually, I suspected that it did because the phone would have not booted without the card, however, I could flash my phone even if I removed the external SD card (as if the internal SD were there, but it wasn't), but it had always required me to insert the card back in for it to reboot from a flash. So I thought maybe internal SD was fine.
Originally, I had a Samsung 8gb class 6, but I wanted to change it to a 32gb class 10 ( to help the OS run smoother IF it were running on external SD). This is where I made a great mistake; I formatted the 32gb card and made 3 partitions. The first one is in FAT32 of 24 gb, 2nd is in EXT4 4gb, 3rd is the rest in EXT 4 as well. The original setup that was working had about 5.5gb in FAT32 and about 1.88gb of EXT(not sure which). The mistake was that I also formatted the 8gb card as well. In chronological order, these were what has happened:
1. I did a Odin stock reset to 2.3.5 with CWM injected
2. Installed Corn Kernel
3. Formatted both external SDs and repartition as mentioned above
4. At this point, I didn't know there was an issue. CWM sees the external SD and I tried to install CM 10.3 since I read in one of the threads that JB has a weird file systems and it needed to be installed twice to fix sdcard0 and sdcard1
5. CM10.3 installed kernel, and failed afterward since there was no /system and /data. At this point, I have Neat Kernel installed and lost bootloader along with fastboot and cannot access download mode.
6. I have tried to change EXT4 to EXT3 or EXT2 to see if there would be any luck in file system recognition, but no luck
7. The only way I can connect to the phone was through ADB, and verified that my internal SD card was dead because mmcblk0 was not there when I removed external SD
8. I tried to mount mmcblk0p1 (4gb EXT4 partition) and mmcblk0p2 as /system and /data, but I had been getting an error
9. I tried to use USB mount in TWRP, but no additional drive showed up (confirmed dead internal SD)
9. I tried to look for vold.fstabs but /system does not exist. The only *.fstabs file founds were in /etc file (not /system/etc) and is, for example, aries.fstabs
I know for the fact that it can be done because the phone was working before, but I really don't have enough linux knowledge or the what the phone looks at in chronological order in order to figure out how to remedy this. I would really appreciate if someone can guide me to a right direction. Thank you.

I see it's been a couple weeks with no update but if you're still stuck this may help. I had similar issues trying to flash zips from recovery. I kept getting the "can't mount" error message and what I figured out is that the access to CWM recovery via the update method I'd used was pretty much loaded up in cache, thus I couldn't mount . Getting back to total stock first may help. This is the basic rundown I performed to get my cappy back up ... currently on JB. Granted, I didn't go about reformatting drives as you did.
1. Flash I897UCKK4 with Odin (no root) for gingerbread stock rom
2. Download and install KK4root. Run Kk4 root "run" exe in the kk4_root folder. Corn kernel is installed with modded recovery system
3. From Corn kernel recovery click "root extras" to get su and busy box installed
Everything is pretty much dependent on using them in Windows and still active in download links if you do some searching.
Hope it helps!

Thanks for the reply; I constant checked this site for a week or so with no response, so I gave up. I would have been able to go with your method if my download mode worked. Basically, I cannot go into either download mode or fastboot. I tried to flash different kernels to try to enable it, but I kept running into error 0 even after I changed the binary. Any idea? Thanks.
