[Q] How to downgrade from LP6 to LP5? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA,
I'm currently using ICS Stunner v1.4.19 with the LP6 modem and I personally feel I was getting better battery life with LP5.
My question is can anyone provide a link for the LP5 modem so I can downgrade?
Any links or suggestions would be most appreciated. Do you think I should stay on LP6 or downgrade? If so please leave a link.
Thanking you in advance.

I predict geo.samuel is going to post all instructions you need below my post.
Edit: omg, I'm psychic
I personally have no issues with the LP6 radio, battery life is great and it's very stable.

Hi
I am attaching both the modems here just flash whichever you want through CWR after clearing cache and dalvik cache.
Personally for me I get Better speeds in data and strong signal strength with LP6
But you can try both for few days and settle for the best.
Moreover Please try to use the search button !! Its there for a purpose!!
Edit
Bio you beat me !! LOL

Thank you very much.

Remember that if CWM won't downgrade something (kernel or modem), then change the filename to "update.zip", move it to the root of your SDcard and choose "install update.zip" in CWM.

Question:
I'm currently on the LP6 kernel... if I flash the LP5 modem do I have t reflash the kernel to something else too?

No bruh just go ahead and give em a swing!! These are just modems!!
SHOT FROM A LOADED GT - N7000!

Would be it possible to have someone post the LP5 kernel? If I'm going to flash the LP5 modem I figured I should be running the appropriate kernel.
Unless I don't have to?....

You absolutely don't have to. Kernel and modem are independent.

If possible could the LP5 kernel be posted here as well? I downgraded my modem but the battery is still bad... perhaps downgrading the kernel to LP5 would help.
BTW I have betterbatterystats installed and I have no excessive wake locks holding the deep sleep down.
Many thanks

Guess i got to wait till 10th of may..the newer os as stated is not relevant to my question, because other custom roms like stunner have this aswell

The principle difference between CM9 and all other ICS releases is that CM9 contains a safe custom kernel.
Everything else ICS-based uses leaked LP1, LP5 and LP6 kernels which can potentially brick or harm your phone.
However, there are two CM9 Roms here in Development:
imilka's CM9 (discontinued, coming with unreliable kernel)
official CM9 (safe)
And speedwise? Is the latest (build 3) as fast / faster than ics stunner ? Thanks btw for the fast and helpfull replies!

CM9 is every bit as fast as Stunner IMO, but has a bit less customization features.

As I understand it, it was built using SGS2 sources.
And it runs wonderfully, Brocky, I can tell you that.

Yes, you can change the DPI to 213 or less from the settings, reboot and have your nice little tablet.
I just read about the danger of leaked kernels :
If you are running an affected kernel:
STOP USING IT IMMEDIATELY. FLASH A SAFE KERNEL USING ODIN/HEIMDALL.
DO NOT wipe in recovery
DO NOT flash anything else in recovery
In general, DO NOT use recovery at all
I'm on ics stunner 1.4.26.1 with the leaked kernel stated below and want to go to cm9 but i read this :
- DON'T flash FROM i9220 LEAKED REPACK!
So can somebody explain what i need to flash before i can flash cm9 ??

You need to flash a stock GB ROM using PC Odin exclusively
And after wards root and install cm9 via cwm
N.B :if you use your stunner recovery for any sort of flash or wipe ,you'll risk bricking your phone
So please use PC ODIN to return to GB
does anyone has a link for a GB rom that is usable with odin??

[Q] LPF & LPY Kernels for ICS

I thought I read that installing the LPY Kernel you might risk not being able to reinstall another ROM if you want to change back.
Is the LPF safer, or is there still an issue with it, also? Did I misread that warning about the LPY kernel?
Thanks!

You are able to revert to GB from both those kernels/Roms. However,
they are not safe. There's been reports of superbricks on both those
versions.
The only safe things for now are
1. Gingerbread Roms
2. CM9-based ICS Roms (official Xplod's CM9, Asylum, Paranoid and MIUI).
However, CM9 Roms don't have TW framework and some of the TW apps
are not included.
A question from a Samsung beginner. What does LPY and LPF mean ?
Thank you

ICS LP8/LP9 safe?

I have read all threads about, but i want to know something:
If i flash a lp8 or lp9 via pc odin,no root, no cwm, just stock, and i do not make any flashing from recovery...is it safe to use lp8 / lp9 stock roms?
thank you
No, there is no 100% safe ICS kernel (except CM9 & Co., which are NOT based on Samsung's N7000 kernel so you lose some functions).
There are SpeedMod and franco's ics modified kernels that are supposed to workaround the bug, however at least 2 people reported bricks with them.
edit:
However, if you don't do a full wipe / factory reset or remove a big file, you should be safe.
If you do need to do a factory reset, make sure you're using a gb kernel, do the reset then flash whatever ICS kernel you want.
It is 100% safe! Follow dr ketan's guide and you will definitely get ur ics working

Yes, and if he bricks his device you are obligated to replace it.
There is ALWAYS a RISK, however MINIMUM it may seem.
Zapped through server hops to XDA forums
Thank you for all your answers!
I will wait a little bit longer for ICS, 'cuz i do not want any problems...
migrating
hi, sorry if i posted a similar question like im about to ask,
currently running on lpy(germany) + cf-root kernel + lpt modem.
i wanna know if there are any safe methods to migrate to other lp9 roms?
thanks in advance

[Q] Going from LQ3 + Speedmod to ParanoidAndroid

Hi all,
I am on LQ3 with Speedmod K3 Kernel and root.
If I want to try out ParanoidAndroid, is it possible to flash a CM9 kernel (like T**r) via CWM, then flash PA (and then wipe both caches and full reset)?
Or, do I still need to flash a GB rom and kernel and then flash PA?
I think the reason for flashing to GB is because CWM is not safe on the stock ICS kernel, but since I'm on Speedmod, that isn't a problem for me.
Or, is there another reason you need to go back to GB?
thanks,
Rich.
Once you go paranoid uts a straight trip to the asylum lmao

The Devs post those instructions for a reason dude. They have tested the methods and only then posted those instructions. If there is a shorter way, they would have surely posted that instead of the longer roundabout way. Also, I think there was a post somewhere mentioning not to go to the CM9 kernel straight from LQ3....but I've forgotten where it was/is .
Best way is to go back to GB and then flash PA---15 minutes extra vs risking bricking your phone----you do the math

Flashing a custom rom on International Note

Hi guys,
I was a bit confused about flashing and many questions stormed my mind.
Ok my current situation is like this --> I have a rooted galaxy note.
I am on stock ICS 4.0.4
I have kingdroid v3.0 and cynogenmod 9 with me.
I know basics of flashing and will be able to flash them.
My question is that,
Is kingdroid rom safe from the emmc chip bug?
Which method is safer- flashing through ext storage or through odin?
If kingdroid is unsafe, then is it really worth flashing CM9?
Thank you in advance.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Kingdroid is based on CM/AOSP right ?
In order to flash that you need to be on GingerBread, GB is safe from the emmc bug so you wont have any issues.
flashing through CWM or ODIN are at the same safe / risk level, Theres a chance you can brick your phone using either.
However, You will only get the brickbug if you are on a Stock ICS kernel, You shouldnt encounter this as you will be flashing from GB.
Just follow the instructions on the ROM thread and you will be fine.

I agree with the azzle.
Steps:
-Dowgrade to GB
-Flash the abyss kernel [which will also "install" CWM]
-Wipe and flash a rom...
-\0/
I dont know anything bout this Kingstuff, but CM9 is great, or paranoid rom if you want the tablet/hybrid mode stuff.

Downgrade to GB KL3 or anything before it...
Thank you guys...that was helpful...as the CM9 dev has said that it may contain lots of bugs i m thinking of some other rom....the thing i wanted kingdroid for is its SGS 3 apps and live wallpapers!! Anyone has any suggestions for any good roms...i want a good interface and a kernal which supports OCing.
