Hello guys, today I am going to show you how to put a custom recovery on you T-Rex: The G1.
What you'll need:
A HTC G1
An USB-cable
A Computer/Mac/Laptop/Linux/Ubuntu/whatsoever
The file: http://rapidshare.com/files/387558151/recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img
Terminal Emulator app (Market/Google Play Store)
Proper sense
I personally prefer Amon_RA's recovery because it's never gave me problems or something and it has all the options you'll need!!!!
First off, you have to be rooted, if you're not, please look for posts before coming here *Facepalm*
I use Terminal Emulator because you just have to type in one sentence and you're done!
Now, let's get to the tricky part: download the link to download the .img file.
Then, plug in you phone on your computer and connect it.
now pull the .img file to your phone (Not in any maps, just on the root of your SD-card) When it's done moving the file, safely eject you phone. Now, open your Terminal Emulator App-It looks like a black screen with blue text: Don't worry, your're not breaking your phone! Slide up your keyboard and type (su) (when I use ( or ), in between those is what you have to type, but not this!!!!) A pop-up will appear and it asks if you want to grand the app superuser permissions. Press 'accept' and now you can type in commands.
Now, typ in (flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.7.0.img)
It won't show how far it is with installing, just wait 1-2 minutes before going back to the home-screen. Now power off your phone. When it's powerd off, press [HOME+POWER] at the same time untill the T-Mobile screen pops up. Now it will boot into recovery and congrats! You just installed a custom recovery image!!!!
It should look like this!!! (Don't mind the 1.5.0, this is an older photo)

please help what should i do....
moving to wizard upgrading.
You need to enter bootloader mode (search xda wiki for instructions) and run official rom upgrade.
Well,cudn't understand what you are saying,what you want to do ? Plz be a little more specific.Are you stuck on the splash screen and trying to recover or trying to upgrade ? well,if its stuck on splash screen,try the Soft reset or Hard reset,if still it doesn't work,download the official T-mobile Rom and flash it.
Cheers!
maybe it will help you i dont now good luck

3. connect the Charmer to your pc (make sure your battery is fully charged)
4. run the t-mobile rom.
5. good luck!
What type of mda is this?
anyone can give me the right model? mda2 or mda 3?
tmobile link here...
Can anyone provide the right link?
thanks montano for this link
I followed this tut http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548924 and got up to the installing CyanogenMOD 4.0.1 (Stable) part. The 4th step it asks me to hold alt+I+W+S in the recovery mode. But my g1 download\install right after i pressed alt+I and W there was no need for S somehow or i messed it up...And then as for the 5th part it did not ask me to reboot it reboot by itself automatically and i had to do the google registration part again like i was downgrading. So i want to know if i had rooted and installed the custom rom successfully or i did something wrong.
the quickest way to tell if it worked is to go to terminal emulator and type su if you get a screen that comes up and ask for your permission to run su then you have root and a custom rom. the other way is if your have 5 homescreens
Uhh where is the terminal emulator lol sry im a newbie ;3. And what you mean by 5 home screen?
either check your app tray or download it from the market. do you have 3 home screens, or 5 home screens, or go into settings and look for something like this under about phone

what does the kernel version say? most likely though you will need to reflash your rom though. make sure the rom is on the root of your sdcard, if you don't have the 1.4 version of cyanogen's recovery image then rename it to update.zip (if you do not know what recovery you have assume you need to name it to update.zip). then boot into recovery(home and power), select the option to flash update.zip from sdcard (something like that) then when it is finished reboot the phone.
david do you happen to have aim\msn or ym? Hate forum posting D:
hi guys im trying to flash a new rom and im using cyanogen 4.1.9999

says who.........
I did not create the original animation. It can be found all over the web and I have no idea who created it. Credit goes to him/her.
This boot animation is based off of this gif:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I added a background layer, removed almost 200 frames (the original was almost 900 frames) optimized the images and made an "ERIS" loop at the end.
.
Note: Sometimes my phone boots up too fast and the animation doesn't make it all the way to the end. Please report how your phone does and I will update accordingly. Enjoy!
That's a badass bootanimation thanks for your work,any way you know how to change the in call screen?

lmao @ this ^ guy
doesn't work on at all on my phone. Evil Eris 3.0 rooted, etc.
I did install it through the recovery menu though. Is there anything specific beyond "Install zip file" that needs to be done?

Yea you don't flash this through recovery. Put it in your tools folder on your pc and "adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/"

ah. guess I'll have to wait till I get home from work to try it out then.
Get root explorer in market you can move it from SD card or to data/system/media and paste and it'll ask to overwrite and Say yes. Do easy and fast
Just installed, rebooted phone and runs perfect. No changes that needs to be made that I can see, looks awesome! I keep running adb shell bootanimation just so I can keep watching it. Great job
I'm working on a Galaxy Note 5 that I am trying to reset the firmware on. Someone's installed a custom build (that's verified in the "about phone" details) and it co-opts the volume down button boot sequence, so I can't get into download or safe mode. I've attached a screenshot. Has anyone seen this before and how to I purge this thing?

Your image isn't showing.
Image not showing
Ok, let's hope this works as a link to the image:
This happens with the power-volume down and power-volume down-home sequences, so I can't get it into safe mode. Someone's definitely put a custom image on, but I'm not sure how to clean it/replace it.
The power-volume up sequence works fine, but since this is a custom image, it won't get cleaned off by wiping the cache and/or factory reset.
Apparently, since I'm a newbie here, I can't post external links, which makes the forced external URLs for images a little useless to me right now...
Can't you just power off, boot into download mode and Odin a stock firmware, then re-root after?

That's the thing - whoever did this co-opted the sequence to boot into download mode - power + volume-down/power + volume-down + home. I did find a way to do it without needing to go into boot mode, but I can't post the link here because I'm a newbie! That should solve my problem - I'm just setting it up on Linux and I'll keep people posted on the solution.
What's happened is that someone's basically done a custom firmware/kernel combo that makes it impossible to get into download mode, so you have to totally backdoor it. When I get it working and verify it, I'll post the solution here.
