Flash Player? - Nook Touch Themes and Apps

Now that audio is working pretty well, I'd like to get Flash working.
No, not particularly for watching videos.
It just seems that most of streaming stuff on the web nowadays (including radio) is Flash-based.
There is flash_for_21.apk kicking around and it installs.
Unfortunately, my Opera Mobile does not recognize it as a plugin.
(Check the URL operalugins in the Opera browser.)

AUdio working? Still looking for that? Is there a link to the post?

For audio, you can start about here on the thread for USB host mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24824407&postcount=183

I gave it a small chance that you haven't seen this thread ?! That doesn't help ???

You need 3 apps and 3 system libs to get Flash working?
Ok, putting the 3 lib files in /system/lib is straight forward.
Copying the 3 apps to /system/app is clear,
but what the heck is the replacing the system app of FlashPlugin.apk?
Ok, I did that too, but Opera is still reporting no plugins.
I'm still not seeing any plugins in Opera.
Was this all based on having an older Opera Mobile?

In the original post on Flash, it says that it doesn't work on opera...

Oh, I must have missed that.
The default "Browser" on the Nook doesn't do any better.
Which browser does work?

As mentioned in the previous thread, maxathon!

Flash works pretty bad, sometimes it stucks and I am unable to press any flash button. Seems suitable to show flash banners but not to browse flash based web pages. Tried it once but I am not using it anymore.

Yes... but - FLASH

You Tube Viewing

I have searched the site and found a bunch of threads on viewing you tube vids, however there are so many post edits etc. that I can't follow which .cab etc we are supposed to be using.
I have downloaded that TCMP and the new version of flashget but still no luck.
Can someone that has a tilt please post what they are using and if it works on this thread - many thanks!!!!
I simply go the mobile version of you tube (m.ca.youtube.com). When I click on a video link the HTC Streaming application (which came with my Kaiser) starts up and plays the video. That simple.
Two notes, however;
1) Over my WiFi connection I need to configure my wifi router to put my Kaiser in the "DMZ - Demilitarized Zone" so as to allow full access to the internet. Otherwise the RTSP streaming fails and the HTC Streaming application complains about an inability to access the connection.
2) Streaming doesn't work over GPRS for me. This is most likely due to my cell phone carrier not allowing full internet access (much like when I don't have my WiFi router configured to put my Kaiser in the DMZ).
To use the "proper" YouTube, as opposed to the mobile version, you need these two .cabs:

I have both of these intstalled with duttys rom ver 4 and I still get the "failed to find network" error in streaming media when using 3g att or wifi. I used to have no problem streaming vids (besides it being really slow and chopy) over att when I was using an older duttys touchflo 6 for att.
I searched too but all I found was some blurbs about youtube changing addressed and wifi in DMZ mode (which neither seemed to apply)
but I am a tard so who knows...

Is anyone really watching you tube vids or is this whole thing some sort of practical joke that I haven't been let in on - LOL
I'm not a noob by any means, I just can't seem to get this to work.
Figures too - because AT&T just "turned on" the 3G network today in my area - I now have very fast internet speeds, but no you tube (

Nothing happens when I click on a vid on the mobile site - it just sits there (Opera mini) doesn't show loading - nothing.
On the desktop one it says I either don't have flash enabled, or I need the newest version - which I have
I appreciate you helping me with this - I'm sure I am not alone on this issue 0 judging by what I'm reading here
ah, try using internet explorer
Follow these steps & pay attention...
Dude, Seriously...You may have read the thread, but you really need to pay attention to what you read. FLASHGET??? FLASH LITE??? Both of these have NO IMPACT on playing flash video.
What you need is:
(A) TCPMP either .72 or .81 (You said you have)
(B) FlasVideoBundle
Instal This:
http://rapidshare.com/files/87945596/FlashVideoBundle.CAB
After installing, make sure that the following files were all copied to the TCPMP root directory (i.e. For .72 \Programs\TCPMP or \Storage Card\Programs\TCPMP or for .81 \Programs\TCPMP\Player):
DiagVL.exe
DisableVL.exe
flvffmpeg.plg
flvsplitter.plg
MenuToggle.exe
VideoLoader.dll
These files must be in the TCPMP directory! It should do it automatically if you use .72. However, for .81 you must copy the files by hand.
After insuring the files have been coppied to the right directory, then launch TCPMP & go to preferences & set the file associations for the flash video, i.e. flv)
Note: without the current version of FlashBundle Youtube will no longer work. I have attached the most current version to the link above.
AND YES, you must use either PIE or (OPERA Mobile 8.65 (NOT MINI) with the macromedia flash player 7).

Dude, excuse the hell out of me...when neither the TCPMP and flashvideo bundle worked - someone suggested flash lite so I installed that as well...I don't think I EVER read where you couldn't use opera mini - thank you to you guys for pointing that out. I will try what you just posted, thanks for taking the time to help someone who obviously "didn't pay attention to what I read"
I can provide some insight, although I really new at this. I installed both cabs and can view all youtube videos through a portal site called ytpocket.com, using the search field at the top. This does not address the larger issue of how to play streaming flash videos from other websites. Specifically, on real youtube, I get the error message "youtube swf args not found" and the title bar of the error message is "VideoLoader." I have no idea what this means.
I also can't get the m.youtube.com site to play videos becuase the Real Player doesn't recognize 3gp files, and my attempts to associate these files with TCMP have apparently failed.
Hope this helps and hope someone smarter than me can solve these two problems! Thanks all.
dt, for the mobile youtube, install htc streaming media

Hulu and Flash

I noticed that Hulu's Flash Player requirements are 9.0xxxx, whereas the Flash Player that is in JACHero is 9.1xxxx. Has anyone had any luck with any Hulu videos?
Whatever your feelings on Flash, the fact remains that having Hulu.com working on Android would be a significant attribute for many people - even if you personally think of it as silly.
For me, G1 + Hero ROM + Hulu = Bliss!
Hopefully, the Flash Player will be updated again with another leaked Hero firmware.
I haven't been able to play hulu either. I just loads and does nothing else. When the hero rom was leaked some one said they were watching family guy on hulu.
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/27/ps3-owners-get-boxeed-hulu-this-video-is-not-available-on-yo/
In the comments people were saying it no longer worked with the winmo skyfire browser either, so perhaps this has something to do with it? Although i would expect you see the error message instead of just nothing...
It would seem Hulu is blocking everything but desktop computers... they've locked out Boxee, XBMC, PlayStation 3, Windows Mobile, and are adding blocks everyday. Vewy vewy sad
Hmmmm....I wonder is there a way to mod the browser to change the user agent data it sends out to sites to say it was firefox etc? There has got to be a way. Or is there a proxy that can do this?
And, is there a way to increase the amount of space for the cache on the sdcard.
Can the flash player play streaming radio stations?
Wasnt the flash on JAC rom replaced by fatal1ty's?
I wonder if that was the reason why hulu doesn't work anymore.

hulu never worked on JAC's version, the guy who had it working posted in the fatal1ty thread. i'm pretty sure he did anyway.
Me personaly I have tried... it gave me one error where it said I didnt have the cache space I went and cleared the cash and then it just loads and loads and loads... It wants to work but Im thinking it needs a tad bit better flash player...
ps double tapping on anything flash will set it to full screen... I think its sick! Hope they do update it... peace!

I am thinking that there will probably be an upgrade to HTC Flash before Hero's release. Think of their embarassment in the face of an almost working Hulu. They need the sales, so let's hope they tweak the player a bit to work right. If YouTube works fine, I see no reason for Hulu not too.

The flash that comes with Hero is not the reason we can't watch Hulu on our phones. It is Hulu that is at fault. They do an HTTP headers check and see what operating system/platform/browser version we're visiting Hulu from and if it's not from a desktop pc then it won't play. They do this on purpose for legal reasons. Hulu has already blocked skyfire on windows mobile (the only flash capable windows mobile browser) and they've block anonymous proxies so using a proxy hack is out of the question.
in comment to fatal1ty/jac browser/flash they were the same ones, taken from the ruu/wwe hero rom release. there was nothing different.

Well if that was the case then a simple About:debug in the browser then a change in the UA string from android to desktop would fix the problem......although this is not the case we need a better flash player UA string is a simple problem the fix.
When i go to hulu, it says error loading, check your browser and try again.. or something to that affect. Then when I refresh, it says loading FOREVER.
I think the site has put the brakes on us.

I was trying to make it as simplified as possible. In actuality a developer has countless information about what device is visiting their page thru FLASH. Please read up Flash and private information it sends and what is capable of being requested by a dev at Hulu's side.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/privacy.html
They can find the pixel dimensions of our screen and determine we're on a mobile device. They can use the user agent string, DPI, screen resolution, and determine we're on a mobile device. There is absolutely nothing EASY we could do to trick Hulu into not knowing we're on a mobile device. So once again I will reiterate that our version of FLASH, or copy of FLASH is NOT the problem. Hulu is walking the line between legal video distribution and copyright infringement so they will do whatever it takes to keep whatever devices they want from not visiting their site. Our only hope interim would be a site that'd convert flv to perhaps html5 video tags which our browsers support.
Is the Hero flash player even capable of playing FLV? It may not support the entire Flash 9/10 specification.

I still don't see why a browser couldn't send false answers to these requests. I visit iPhone-only sites using the Steel browser; it might be more involved to do the same for flash conent, but possible, no? Or else, download the flash file first and then open it in Htc Flash Player?
Bump:
I just did some research, and Hulu is entirely blocking the flash player from loading for WinMo users, whereas from Hero, it is loading, just not playing video. The rumor is that Hulu is releasing a WinMo app soon, hence their desire to stop their site from being accessed otherwise. Whereas, their is no such app purported to be in the works for Android - so I believe that your theory is incorrect.
Furthering my case is the fact that the HTC Flash Player is also not working on a few other video sites that only require Flash 9. I still believe that the player just needs a little more work.

(barely)Working Flash lite on Nook Color Rooted

Ok, I hope i'm not regurgitating info, and if I am. Please kill this thread. But I was pretty sure i've been paying attention and no flash was working yet. I hijacked this info of of this thread : http://android.modaco.com/content/z...295/flashlite-working-with-stock-android-2-1/
so the credits not mine, BUT , I did install the .lib files, and then load the apk and guess what? Flash!! It doesn't seem to work in Dolphin, but it did load and work in the native browser. It's choppy, doesn't seem to look very good, but it's a start right?
Ok, so use root explorer to move .lib files to system/lib, then install the apk and voila. I've included a screen shot for proof of concept. Either way, it's in your hands now guys. I'm not even close to a dev, just a googler. I was thinking about how flashlite worked on other devices but not ours and figured there would maybe be dependencies we could move over, obviously someone else had already done the work for me on a seperate device.
EDIT: alright, this is weird. I probably should have done some more testing before I jumped the gun. (sorry, I was excited) Apparently I also installed another version of flash player prior to the instructions I posted. Nothing seems to work unless the lib files, and both versions of flash are installed. This can't be right, nor does it make sense, but i've tested both versions with the lib files and without each other and they don't work...so anyone else who cares to mess around installing different versions of flash with the lib files, maybe we can get better results. I've attached the other flash file I used below.
Pretty cool, I wonder what other browsers this works in. I'll have to give this a try, it'd be nice to watch some of the blog videos or such.

the guy in the other thread said it would work with xscope so i'm trying it now...i haven't found a site where I could get a video to load yet, but newgrounds did load a game (useless I know) ...
I just tried it in Opera Mobile, didn't seem to be working there (I went to the 'what's my flash version' site and nada)
It actually worked in dolphin. About as well as it did in the standard browser, choppy stuttery, newgrounds game, no sound. Seems like its trying to work with videos, but its just missing something.
This thread needs the attention of revs
Move to book devlopment maybe?
I actually started the thread in android development, and it was moved by a mod to general. I'm not sure i'd want to waste too much dev attention on something like this when I know they are close to finishing 2.2 and i've read gingerbread might be coming soon too with CM. Right now the only reason to use those apks on the original post is if you'd like to be able to see more ads on web pages than you were previously able to.

[UPDATE][5/4][MOD]Hulu working BRILLIANTLY on Honeycomb {TESTERS NEEDED}

UPDATE 5/4: It has been determined, although it remains unclear as to why, that you need a modified kernel in order for this mod to work. It is my intention to get Hulu working across the Honeycomb platform, so if you have any input as to why Tiamat's kernel is required, please address it in this thread
Read Entire Post
Download links at the bottom of the post.
Using a modified version of the new (4/29)10.2 Flash update, created by imneveral0ne, from the Thunderbolt forums, and Dolphin Mini, with minor settings adjustments, you can enjoy smooth, clear playback of content from Hulu, in it's full browser format. This includes access to all content, including those deemed unavailable for access by mobile devices or TV's. The apk modification essentially changes the user agent of Flash as it appears on the net.
Previously, this has been possible using a similarly modified apk, changing your user agent to desktop, and viewing Hulu using an alternate URL, www.hulu.com/widget/player. While not only presenting an awful UI, this method of playback resulted in choppy video that often fell out of sync.
If you are currently not using Dolphin Mini as a daily browser, it will be easy for you to install it, and implement it as a single purpose browser. Just change the homepage to hulu.com. It's UI is conveniently matched to the design of Hulu's website, which makes for a clean experience. It's light and fast, and could be a daily driver for those looking for a minimalist browser.
The entire experience is smoother, Flash is behaving like it should. Selecting options from within the Hulu playback interface has been a nightmare, but with the updated flash, and HRI66, it's an entirely pleasant way to watch great content on the Xoom.
As for playback, you will find smooth playing video, at 480p. 480p looks great on the Xoom and the Tegra 2 handles it beautifully. By manually lowering the resolution of choice, to either 360p or 288p, you will notice the decrease in resolution, however, you should increase your available bandwidth and relax the stress on your processor, likely saving battery life.
Regarding HD, it is possible, with Hulu Plus of course, to play video in 720p . However, because hardware acceleration has yet to be enabled, the resulting video will be choppy and most likely unwatchable. This has been tested with an over-clocked Tegra2 at 1.5ghz. It would be fair to assume that when the Xoom and/or Honeycomb receive the update Adobe is referring to, 720p HD playback will be possible. In the mean time, 480p looks fantastic.
Also of note, true multitasking is possible using this mod. You can go back to your homescreen, open new apps, check your mail, and your Hulu video will remain playing in the background. You can still hear audio, and work during commercials, resuming playback instantly.
As for installation, this couldn't be easier.
1. Download modified Flash 10.2 HERE CHOOSE LINK #2 LABELED Flash 10.2 + Hulu_2.apk OR from this dropbox public link
2. Uninstall your current version of Flash using the Manage Applications setting.
3. Reboot
4. Install modified version of Flash 10.2
5. Install Dolphin Mini from the Market HERE
6. In Dolphin Mini, change the user agent to Desktop (Menu>Toolbox>UserAgent>Desktop) and change plug-ins to always on (Menu>Toolbox>Settings>Enable Plug-Ins>Always On). This will ensure Flash content plays back immediately.
7. Go to hulu.com and enjoy all the great content on the go with your Android Honeycomb Tablet!!!!

If you are having trouble, for example, Hulu is telling you Flash is not installed, please leave a post in the thread noting your model(Wifi or 3g), your build number(HRI39, HRI66 etc), your kernel(modified or stock) and your recovery. It has been determined that a custom kernel is required for this mod to work appropriately. If you have any idea as to why this may be the case, please dump your ideas in this thread.

I can confirm it DOES work with Dolphin HD, however, I have noticed MUCH better performance using Dolphin Mini. It's very light weight and the pages load very smoothly. If you are looking to replicate my positive experiences, I highly recommend Dolphin Mini.

I did notice a very slight lag between the audio and video, but it's working (360p video on full screen).

It is my intention to have a tutorial for anyone who wants to watch Hulu on their Honeycomb tablet. When you say it doesn't work for YOU, I want to know why, so that I can help others who may run in to a similar situation. Of course it will work in the stock browser, as long as you change the user agent to desktop. This of course will be reset to default android upon restart, unless you are using a modified framework.
The goal of this post is show how you can consistently get quality Hulu playback without the need to adjust settings, more than once, upon the initial install.
Being that XDA is a community driven site, your input is appreciated. If you get a chance, see if you can get Hulu working under the conditions I suggested, and compare your experience to the stock browser with the user agent changed. I'd be curious to know the results.

I changed the ua string to desktop, but there is no add-on values. There's only a setting that says plugin support, and i checked always on.
I've tried it three different times and each time it can't detect the flash player in the browser.
I DLed from the Dropbox link, uninstalled the old flash, installed the new APK, installed Dolphin Mini and updated the user agent and plug in settings but I still get the message:
"Hulu requires Flash PLayer 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player before continuing."
Bummer.
It does not work for me either. Hulu says that Flash needs to be installed for it to work. I tried to install it from my Xoom and to email it to myself and neither worked.

I cannot replicate that error. Try clearing data/cache for Flash after installing the modified apk.
I want to help get this running for anyone who wants it!

[Q] Xperia X1 working flash

Hi! I can't make youtube playing video clips. I tried so many ways but the best I did is when installing TX Opera with Flash after 1st restart I can watch youtube videos. After 2nd restart opera just loads flash but not playing - no sound no video.
Someone can help me to watch flash videos?

I attached to the post 2 screens.
There seems to be no fix. but you can try
1 this opera version and try going youtube to see the (watch video/share video) links under the video
(in this case press the watch video link)
2 use the default youtube app in the media folder of the main start menu and try searching for the title of the video that you want to watch or what you searched earlier...
If these work please press thanks at the bottom of my post =)

The same - not working. I can use my youtube app but I want to play videos in the browser.
erm.. sad to say...
then i can't really think of any other alternatives ... sorry and there are no fixes ever since the android boom started ...
The problem you guys are dealing with is that all you can get is flash lite 3.1 on winmo. That equals flash 7 - which is really old. Current flash version is 11 and most pages demand at least flash 9.
So even if you get your browser to use the flash plugin, it won't be accepted. Solution? Get a new phone or accept it. Hardware isn't up to the task as well.

That's not the problem. I know that the newest version of Flash is 11 but if I can get flash working most of the sites will work fine. First time as I said when I install flash everything is ok. But after reboot no sound and video.
