UPDATE 5/4: It has been determined, although it remains unclear as to why, that you need a modified kernel in order for this mod to work. It is my intention to get Hulu working across the Honeycomb platform, so if you have any input as to why Tiamat's kernel is required, please address it in this thread

Using a modified version of the new (4/29)10.2 Flash update, created by imneveral0ne, from the Thunderbolt forums, and Dolphin Mini, with minor settings adjustments, you can enjoy smooth, clear playback of content from Hulu, in it's full browser format. This includes access to all content, including those deemed unavailable for access by mobile devices or TV's. The apk modification essentially changes the user agent of Flash as it appears on the net.
Previously, this has been possible using a similarly modified apk, changing your user agent to desktop, and viewing Hulu using an alternate URL, www.hulu.com/widget/player. While not only presenting an awful UI, this method of playback resulted in choppy video that often fell out of sync.
If you are currently not using Dolphin Mini as a daily browser, it will be easy for you to install it, and implement it as a single purpose browser. Just change the homepage to hulu.com. It's UI is conveniently matched to the design of Hulu's website, which makes for a clean experience. It's light and fast, and could be a daily driver for those looking for a minimalist browser.
The entire experience is smoother, Flash is behaving like it should. Selecting options from within the Hulu playback interface has been a nightmare, but with the updated flash, and HRI66, it's an entirely pleasant way to watch great content on the Xoom.
As for playback, you will find smooth playing video, at 480p. 480p looks great on the Xoom and the Tegra 2 handles it beautifully. By manually lowering the resolution of choice, to either 360p or 288p, you will notice the decrease in resolution, however, you should increase your available bandwidth and relax the stress on your processor, likely saving battery life.
Regarding HD, it is possible, with Hulu Plus of course, to play video in 720p . However, because hardware acceleration has yet to be enabled, the resulting video will be choppy and most likely unwatchable. This has been tested with an over-clocked Tegra2 at 1.5ghz. It would be fair to assume that when the Xoom and/or Honeycomb receive the update Adobe is referring to, 720p HD playback will be possible. In the mean time, 480p looks fantastic.
Also of note, true multitasking is possible using this mod. You can go back to your homescreen, open new apps, check your mail, and your Hulu video will remain playing in the background. You can still hear audio, and work during commercials, resuming playback instantly.
As for installation, this couldn't be easier.
1. Download modified Flash 10.2 HERE CHOOSE LINK #2 LABELED Flash 10.2 + Hulu_2.apk OR from this dropbox public link
2. Uninstall your current version of Flash using the Manage Applications setting.
3. Reboot
4. Install modified version of Flash 10.2
5. Install Dolphin Mini from the Market HERE
6. In Dolphin Mini, change the user agent to Desktop (Menu>Toolbox>UserAgent>Desktop) and change plug-ins to always on (Menu>Toolbox>Settings>Enable Plug-Ins>Always On). This will ensure Flash content plays back immediately.
7. Go to hulu.com and enjoy all the great content on the go with your Android Honeycomb Tablet!!!!
Instructions updated to reflect the following contribution.

One thing i would recommend, uninstall flash, reboot, then install the new version 2 hulu flash file. If you want to test if you have the right one installed, go to Flash Version and it should show WIN 99 99 99 99.

If you are having trouble, for example, Hulu is telling you Flash is not installed, please leave a post in the thread noting your model(Wifi or 3g), your build number(HRI39, HRI66 etc), your kernel(modified or stock) and your recovery. It has been determined that a custom kernel is required for this mod to work appropriately. If you have any idea as to why this may be the case, please dump your ideas in this thread.
bout to try this out now. thanks

You have not followed the instructions. You need to ensure your useragent is set to Desktop, and that you have enabled add-ons to Always-On.

I can confirm it DOES work with Dolphin HD, however, I have noticed MUCH better performance using Dolphin Mini. It's very light weight and the pages load very smoothly. If you are looking to replicate my positive experiences, I highly recommend Dolphin Mini.
Just watched Obama's latest speech. Works!
I did notice a very slight lag between the audio and video, but it's working (360p video on full screen).

It is my intention to have a tutorial for anyone who wants to watch Hulu on their Honeycomb tablet. When you say it doesn't work for YOU, I want to know why, so that I can help others who may run in to a similar situation. Of course it will work in the stock browser, as long as you change the user agent to desktop. This of course will be reset to default android upon restart, unless you are using a modified framework.
The goal of this post is show how you can consistently get quality Hulu playback without the need to adjust settings, more than once, upon the initial install.
Being that XDA is a community driven site, your input is appreciated. If you get a chance, see if you can get Hulu working under the conditions I suggested, and compare your experience to the stock browser with the user agent changed. I'd be curious to know the results.

You may not be able to download and install from your Xoom. You can either download it from your desktop and transfer it, or try this dropbox link HERE
Let me know if that URL works.

That url works. However its saying that flash isn't installed but it it now. I also can't seem to find the setting for enabling add ons, I did find the setting for enabling plug ins though. Are they the same?
Thanks

doesn't work. tells me i have to install flash player.
i've downloaded the second link the one that says flash 10.2 + hulu and then uninstalled the market version of flash. i then reinstalled the the modded flash and installed dolphin browser mini.
I changed the ua string to desktop, but there is no add-on values. There's only a setting that says plugin support, and i checked always on.
I've tried it three different times and each time it can't detect the flash player in the browser.
I DLed from the Dropbox link, uninstalled the old flash, installed the new APK, installed Dolphin Mini and updated the user agent and plug in settings but I still get the message:
"Hulu requires Flash PLayer 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player before continuing."
Bummer.
It does not work for me either. Hulu says that Flash needs to be installed for it to work. I tried to install it from my Xoom and to email it to myself and neither worked.

I cannot replicate that error. Try clearing data/cache for Flash after installing the modified apk.

Call me paranoid, but is there a more official place to download this. The site in the link feels sketchy. There is even a post that questions the validity of the .apk. Have you installed and is there a noticeable difference?
I'd say it's legit. Jlevy posted on there that it's legit and he is a member on xda
i Got it and installed seems to be what it says flash 10.2 tried a flash game to see and it played it was jerky tho but i don't know if it was like that before or not i didnt test the game before. youtube is flash based right? ill check that out
I thought it wasn't getting released until the 18th. I guess it got leaked or something.
I installed on Vegantab and it seems to work just fine.
tryed to play some 720p vids of youtube(website not the app) it was very jerky but 480p played fine
Works on my GTAB - doesn't seem any worse or better than 10.1 (with limited testing).
Had to uninstall flash before this would install. Works so far on VEGAn bameta 5.1.1.
Edit: after some testing it breaks hulu for me. Sticking with my altered 10.1 until something better comes along.
Vegan Ginger working but no sound. Anyone have sound?

Yeah i didn't see that post. I Google's and found the Android Police post and downloaded there. Seems to work, July still says "not supported on your platform" on Vegan 7. Dang! I still have high high hopes for the first beta release!
Just tested and works nice. Wish there was a way to test 480 on the youtube site

You could play videos on youtube in 480p format on G tab.
Do these steps:
1) Go into your youtube account settings, after signing in.
2) Click on "Playback Setup"
3) Checkmark the option "Always play HD when switching to fullscreen (when available)"
Now on Gtab when you watch a video just double tap it to full screen and it will automatically go to 480p.

forgot all about that thanks man. Just did on an episode of =3 and it ran perfect in 480p I love this tab

Sweet!
Works nicely, no noticible difference from 10.1
I don't get it though, who comes with these release dates anyway?
If it's ready to go just set it free because in the age of twitter and XDA, if someone gets thier hands on it before the release date it's going to spread like wildfire!
Agreed. It's works but no noticable difference. It still takes a minute+ to start a live video stream on ESPN3. It always feels like an eternity...
I'm running Vegan Ginger and haven't installed this yet (still have 10.1 from the market). I'm wondering if it will make a difference with this ROM until the next release when hopefully the hardware video acceleration files will be baked in to the rom?

Any pointer on how to alter 10.1 to get Hulu to work?
TIA
Remove the current Adobe flash from G Tab and install the attached version and then Hulu should work if using the Dolphin browser with useragent set to "Desktop" and run plugin "always".
10.2 works fine on my DROID INCREDIBLE too
Do you guys think it will be possible for the devs to put a good fully working flashplayer into the various ROMs? Hoping for some full on flashplayer love on CM7 or Honeycomb V4 2nd ed.

facepalm is right!
LOL !!!
For some reason I really like this thread
dalingrin has already said that the B&N Flash won't be included in official CM7. The Honeycomb demo (that is all we basically have) doesn't have fully working DSP like CM7 has so it doesn't benefit from this release.
With that said, I am sure someone will make a CM7 ROM with it included eventually.
Yeah, and from what I can tell, there's nothing special about B&N's flash vs the 10.2 in the Market. Then again, I don't like flash for many things on the NC, so maybe I am missing the differences. It is pretty heavy on CPU cycles. I don't deny others the opportunity like Lord Steve though.
What is special about the stock flash player vs CM7?
The 1.2 version of flashplayer has dsp decoding enabled for some video content which should improve video performance. You can extract it from the 1.2 update zip on BN.com
As already stated CM7 has always had flash support. While B&N flash can be used in CM7, it has limited benefits. B&N flash on 1.2 Froyo and CM7 does have DSP support for videos "Optimized for mobile." Unfortunately, videos that are optimized for mobile seem limited to mostly YouTube.com where you'd be better off using the YouTube app anyway. For videos that are not optimized for mobile, the newer Flash 10.2 from the market is better.

This is good to know! I noticed from sites like crackle Dolphin mini set to desktop says "This video is not optimized for mobile". So 10.2 flash with Hulu fix would be best here. Dolphin mini set to Desktop seems to play crackle well with the flash based on B&N 1.2 Froyo and Hulu fix where Opera Mobile video freezes but audio continues until I sync it. The Opera Mobile browser at crackle does not say "This video is not optimized for mobile".
When using the flash based on B&N 1.2 Froyo with the Hulu fix in Opera Mobile at the Hulu website, it does not say "This video is not optimized for mobile". Now part of the Hulu fix is to make the browser look like window/mac desktop. We also throttle the file to 288p thru settings. Do you think B&N 1.2 Froyo flash might be better here? My guess is not, it is only Opera Mobile being made to look like window/mac desktop, not hardware acceleration dsp. Dolphin mini will not play the Hulu site.
I am using the Hulu fix of libflashplayer.so for both 1.2 Froyo update and 10.2 flash. I wonder if that has any bearings? Could this actually negate the dsp acceleration of of B&N update for optimized mobile videos? I think it is modified from 10.2 version of flash. I justed loaded video from youtube website. In Dolphin mini and Opera Mobile they did not appear to have dsp acceleration. When played from YouTube app they were much better. I am going to reboot and play video's again. This will negate the Hulu flash fix and restore 1.2 Froyo update.
With the Hulu fix of libflashplayer.so and all browsers it is hard to know what is best or a method to test them all out with? To complicated matters I also have a motorola xoom bluetooth keyboard. At least I can turn bluetooth off.
What I learned.
How to optimize use of Flash 10.1 from B&N 1.2 Froyo, Flash 10.2 from Market, Hulu fix of libflashplayer.so, Opera Mobile and Dolphin Mini in CM7, specifically phiremod V6.1 OC 1300 with 4/23 kernel set at interactive 1300/300.
From Dal: "...B&N flash on 1.2 Froyo and CM7 does have DSP support for videos "Optimized for mobile." Unfortunately, videos that are optimized for mobile seem limited to mostly YouTube.com where you'd be better off using the YouTube app anyway. For videos that are not optimized for mobile, the newer Flash 10.2 from the market is better."
Hulu fix of libflashplayer.so can be used in 10.1 and 10.2 versions of flash.
1) In 10.1 it negates the DSP support for videos "Optimized for mobile." at sites like youtube, and makes sites like crackle perform like it had 10.2 version of flash.
2) In 10.2 it allows Opera Mobile to play back Hulu videos on the nook. Can be used with Dolphin mini as well (see edit at end of post). For ease of use at all flash sites I recommend Opera Mobile for Hulu style sites and Dolphi mini for non Hulu style sites.
Conclusion: Install 10.2 and Hulu fix of libflashplayer.so. Tweak Opera Mobile for Hulu. Redo install of Hulu fix of libflashplayer.so on each reboot. Use Dolphin min for all flash video playback at sites like crackle, cnn, etc. Sites like Hulu, Espn3, and others where flash video playback is blocked, use tweaked Opera Mobile. Opera Mobile makes these site look like it is a desktop window/mac. Use YouTube app for playback of videos at the YouTube.com website. Flash will appear to be smooth in all of the above situations.
Edit: I can now make Dolphin min work for Hulu style sites as well. But it is more functional to have one browser for Hulu style sites and one browser for other flash sites then to switch the setting in Dolphin min.
See this post for making Dolphin work for Hulu. Some details: Hit Menu - Toolbox - Settings. Uncheck Load images. Under Advanced settings - Enable plug-ins - change to Always on. Under Menu - Toolbox - User Agent Check Desktop (I use this last setting for both the Hulu and all non Hulu style flash sites).

Thanks for the conclusion part of your post as that help clarify for me what content to run on what browser. However, and someone please correct me if I remember incorrectly, hasn't the Hulu libflashplayer.so fix been baked into the nightlies for some time now? Just don't want people (myself included) constantly updating something unnecessarily.

I was running the nightlies from a sd card and phiremod's version from emmc. Once cm7 and phiremod V6.1 got video working smoothly, I loaded a 16gb SanDisk SD card with lots of music and transcoded movies. So I no longer run the nightlies.
Phiremod V6.1 is based on a fairly recent cm7. To make it work with hulu I had to manually load the Hulu libflashplayer.so fix, install Opera Mobile, and tweak it configuration to get it to look like a window/mac desktop. Every time I reboot Hulu's website videos no longer work as the adobe flash player reinstalls its version of libflashplayer.so. When I change this file back to the Hulu version they work again. So unless the nightlies have a tweaked Opera Mobile and a script to replace libflashplayer.so after flash initialize the directory on reboot their is no way it can play flash videos at Hulu website. Most other flash website will play correctly. Maybe that is where people are thinking that the hulu version is baked in. Espn3 and some of the network sites are other places where flash videos only work with the Hulu modifications.

For cm7 at least, it is Adobe and Hulu who are blocking some flash sites. The developers are amazing here as they have hardware acceleration working better then the B&N update 1.2 froyo has. They have better codecs, better acceleration, and have figured out ways to get the block sites to play. Plus they talk to us through the forums. I really appreciate their efforts and think most people here would agree.
It you want to make B&N flash froyo better you could take the libflashplayer.so hulu fix and replace it in a newly rooted version of the updated stock software(actually they are working on it). It would get rid of the chopiness that their 10.1 Adobe FlashPlayer has. I found this for now
"It's not a full root. But it does allow you to side-load some applications."
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1051235
It would be necessary to side Load something like File Expert to make changes to move the hulu libflashplayer.so to their com.adobe.flashplayer/lib directory and set the correct permissions.

This was a joke btw, i cant say enough good things about the devs here and all the work that has been done in the nook. Im extremely happy i made the purchase, i could not ask for a better tablet.
Doh! My bad, I haven't looked into the issue since HC V4 2nd ed. I read at the time that flash wouldn't be on the NC because of a missing driver, so my thinking was that the B&N flash would perhaps allow for extracting the needed files to get it in other roms. I put CM7.0.2 on an sd card last night and WOW, I can't believe I didn't do it sooner, lol. Screw that unstable no app working HC preview, lol.
I think I'm close, but I am not a hacker, I'm simply a direction follower. So, I've got no idea what to do next.
Here's what i've done -
I have flashback 8.1 installed. I have done most of the upgrades offered in 9.0, and am having NO issues with SOD so I haven't upgraded. As near as I can tell, the only thing I don't have is the new kernel.
I used the hacked flash player from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077914
It's version 103.185.25. (I first tried the hacked flash that was included with the flashback 8.1 distribution, but got the "not supported" message from Hulu.)
Using the 10.3.185.25 modded flash, and any of these three browsers - Dolphin HD, Stock Browser, or Skyfire 4.0, I have sound, but no video. I have all three browsers set to "desktop".
I have that at 288, 360, or 480 playback. It doesn't seem to matter. Opera mobile doesn't seem to work at all.
I didn't have any success replacing that library file in my last install of Flashback 8.1, though I haven't tried since I re-flashed last week.
So, am I close, or will this not work? Should I be trying anything else? All comments appreciated. Thanks much.
11.0.1.152 is the latest version
Hulu checks for two things that I know of to watch it on the gTab. It checks if the Flash you're running is a Windows version of Flash and also if it is the latest version (although this check sometimes doesn't happen every time).
What I would recommend to you is to uninstall the version of Flash you have on your gTab first. Then (if you can) install the latest version of Flash from the Market. Then do what I have recommended in the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290504
Note: It seems to me that if you want Hulu to play without issues on the gTab go to Hulu.com and log in and then click on Account (next to your login name), select Privacy & Settings, and at the lower right corner of that page set your Playback Quality to 288p. The picture won't be crystal clear but all of the shows will play and play well on the gTab at that setting.
Now that audio is working pretty well, I'd like to get Flash working.
No, not particularly for watching videos.
It just seems that most of streaming stuff on the web nowadays (including radio) is Flash-based.
There is flash_for_21.apk kicking around and it installs.
Unfortunately, my Opera Mobile does not recognize it as a plugin.
(Check the URL operalugins in the Opera browser.)
AUdio working? Still looking for that? Is there a link to the post?
For audio, you can start about here on the thread for USB host mode:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24824407&postcount=183
I gave it a small chance that you haven't seen this thread ?! That doesn't help ???
You need 3 apps and 3 system libs to get Flash working?
Ok, putting the 3 lib files in /system/lib is straight forward.
Copying the 3 apps to /system/app is clear,
but what the heck is the replacing the system app of FlashPlugin.apk?
Ok, I did that too, but Opera is still reporting no plugins.
I'm still not seeing any plugins in Opera.
Was this all based on having an older Opera Mobile?
In the original post on Flash, it says that it doesn't work on opera...
Oh, I must have missed that.
The default "Browser" on the Nook doesn't do any better.
Which browser does work?
As mentioned in the previous thread, maxathon!
Flash works pretty bad, sometimes it stucks and I am unable to press any flash button. Seems suitable to show flash banners but not to browse flash based web pages. Tried it once but I am not using it anymore.

any update for have flash player compatible for opera on nook???
anyone working on develop that
Running CM9 Alpha 2, been running for months with no problems. Today I was trying to watch a flash video from a site that worked perfectly for me for months, but it was giving me a wierd aspect ratio. So I decided to download Chrome and see how that worked. I did, but it said that flash was not installed. So I went to the Market, but found out that adobe is not letting anyone download flash anymore. So I found an apk of the flash player, installed that, and now flash does not work in ANY app, all I get is the little blue lego box. I went to Titanium and restored a backup of Flash Player, but that still won't work. I have since tried two different apk's of the latest Flash player I found, and none of them are working at all. I have tried every browser I can think of, Chrome, Opera, Dolphin, ICS+, Skyfire, none of them work at all now.
Any suggestions?
Quick update: Flash IS working for things like ads and banners, just not for video. I also saw online that Adobe AIR might be the problem, so I uninstalled that, but with no help.
Another update: I tried my MLB app, which uses Flash player for video, and it plays video just fine. So it seems that Flash video is just not working in ALL browsers....
Flash doesn't work well in the stock or Chrome browsers. I found that if I'm tryin' to watch something to do with Flash, I need to use either Firefox or Dolphin for Tab - I use the latter at the moment, cuz it seems to work pretty well.
Granted, I have an older version of Flash (one that the Market never updated anyway, so it must be as new as it can be). Might be something to consider - install Dolphin or Firefox, THEN install the Flash APK, and you should be able to have it work from there. At least, that's what I did.
I had a problem with BBC I player but when I went into ics browser and changed the settings from Android to desktop it worked, might be worth a try .
Checkout the PUFFIN web browser... turn of force gpu though here's a good site to use it on
