[Q] Hulu on Flashback, Need Help, Is it possible? - G Tablet Themes and Apps

I think I'm close, but I am not a hacker, I'm simply a direction follower. So, I've got no idea what to do next.
Here's what i've done -
I have flashback 8.1 installed. I have done most of the upgrades offered in 9.0, and am having NO issues with SOD so I haven't upgraded. As near as I can tell, the only thing I don't have is the new kernel.
I used the hacked flash player from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077914
It's version 103.185.25. (I first tried the hacked flash that was included with the flashback 8.1 distribution, but got the "not supported" message from Hulu.)
Using the 10.3.185.25 modded flash, and any of these three browsers - Dolphin HD, Stock Browser, or Skyfire 4.0, I have sound, but no video. I have all three browsers set to "desktop".
I have that at 288, 360, or 480 playback. It doesn't seem to matter. Opera mobile doesn't seem to work at all.
I didn't have any success replacing that library file in my last install of Flashback 8.1, though I haven't tried since I re-flashed last week.
So, am I close, or will this not work? Should I be trying anything else? All comments appreciated. Thanks much.

11.0.1.152 is the latest version
Hulu checks for two things that I know of to watch it on the gTab. It checks if the Flash you're running is a Windows version of Flash and also if it is the latest version (although this check sometimes doesn't happen every time).
What I would recommend to you is to uninstall the version of Flash you have on your gTab first. Then (if you can) install the latest version of Flash from the Market. Then do what I have recommended in the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290504
Note: It seems to me that if you want Hulu to play without issues on the gTab go to Hulu.com and log in and then click on Account (next to your login name), select Privacy & Settings, and at the lower right corner of that page set your Playback Quality to 288p. The picture won't be crystal clear but all of the shows will play and play well on the gTab at that setting.

Flash 10.2 available

Call me paranoid, but is there a more official place to download this. The site in the link feels sketchy. There is even a post that questions the validity of the .apk. Have you installed and is there a noticeable difference?
I'd say it's legit. Jlevy posted on there that it's legit and he is a member on xda
i Got it and installed seems to be what it says flash 10.2 tried a flash game to see and it played it was jerky tho but i don't know if it was like that before or not i didnt test the game before. youtube is flash based right? ill check that out
I thought it wasn't getting released until the 18th. I guess it got leaked or something.
I installed on Vegantab and it seems to work just fine.
tryed to play some 720p vids of youtube(website not the app) it was very jerky but 480p played fine
Works on my GTAB - doesn't seem any worse or better than 10.1 (with limited testing).
Had to uninstall flash before this would install. Works so far on VEGAn bameta 5.1.1.
Edit: after some testing it breaks hulu for me. Sticking with my altered 10.1 until something better comes along.
Vegan Ginger working but no sound. Anyone have sound?

Yeah i didn't see that post. I Google's and found the Android Police post and downloaded there. Seems to work, July still says "not supported on your platform" on Vegan 7. Dang! I still have high high hopes for the first beta release!
Just tested and works nice. Wish there was a way to test 480 on the youtube site
mcp2009
You could play videos on youtube in 480p format on G tab.
Do these steps:
1) Go into your youtube account settings, after signing in.
2) Click on "Playback Setup"
3) Checkmark the option "Always play HD when switching to fullscreen (when available)"
Now on Gtab when you watch a video just double tap it to full screen and it will automatically go to 480p.

forgot all about that thanks man. Just did on an episode of =3 and it ran perfect in 480p I love this tab
Edit: i think audio may be off a little
Sweet!
Works nicely, no noticible difference from 10.1
I don't get it though, who comes with these release dates anyway?
If it's ready to go just set it free because in the age of twitter and XDA, if someone gets thier hands on it before the release date it's going to spread like wildfire!
Agreed. It's works but no noticable difference. It still takes a minute+ to start a live video stream on ESPN3. It always feels like an eternity...
I'm running Vegan Ginger and haven't installed this yet (still have 10.1 from the market). I'm wondering if it will make a difference with this ROM until the next release when hopefully the hardware video acceleration files will be baked in to the rom?

Any pointer on how to alter 10.1 to get Hulu to work?
TIA
Remove the current Adobe flash from G Tab and install the attached version and then Hulu should work if using the Dolphin browser with useragent set to "Desktop" and run plugin "always".
10.2 works fine on my DROID INCREDIBLE too

[UPDATE][5/4][MOD]Hulu working BRILLIANTLY on Honeycomb {TESTERS NEEDED}

UPDATE 5/4: It has been determined, although it remains unclear as to why, that you need a modified kernel in order for this mod to work. It is my intention to get Hulu working across the Honeycomb platform, so if you have any input as to why Tiamat's kernel is required, please address it in this thread
Read Entire Post
Download links at the bottom of the post.
Using a modified version of the new (4/29)10.2 Flash update, created by imneveral0ne, from the Thunderbolt forums, and Dolphin Mini, with minor settings adjustments, you can enjoy smooth, clear playback of content from Hulu, in it's full browser format. This includes access to all content, including those deemed unavailable for access by mobile devices or TV's. The apk modification essentially changes the user agent of Flash as it appears on the net.
Previously, this has been possible using a similarly modified apk, changing your user agent to desktop, and viewing Hulu using an alternate URL, www.hulu.com/widget/player. While not only presenting an awful UI, this method of playback resulted in choppy video that often fell out of sync.
If you are currently not using Dolphin Mini as a daily browser, it will be easy for you to install it, and implement it as a single purpose browser. Just change the homepage to hulu.com. It's UI is conveniently matched to the design of Hulu's website, which makes for a clean experience. It's light and fast, and could be a daily driver for those looking for a minimalist browser.
The entire experience is smoother, Flash is behaving like it should. Selecting options from within the Hulu playback interface has been a nightmare, but with the updated flash, and HRI66, it's an entirely pleasant way to watch great content on the Xoom.
As for playback, you will find smooth playing video, at 480p. 480p looks great on the Xoom and the Tegra 2 handles it beautifully. By manually lowering the resolution of choice, to either 360p or 288p, you will notice the decrease in resolution, however, you should increase your available bandwidth and relax the stress on your processor, likely saving battery life.
Regarding HD, it is possible, with Hulu Plus of course, to play video in 720p . However, because hardware acceleration has yet to be enabled, the resulting video will be choppy and most likely unwatchable. This has been tested with an over-clocked Tegra2 at 1.5ghz. It would be fair to assume that when the Xoom and/or Honeycomb receive the update Adobe is referring to, 720p HD playback will be possible. In the mean time, 480p looks fantastic.
Also of note, true multitasking is possible using this mod. You can go back to your homescreen, open new apps, check your mail, and your Hulu video will remain playing in the background. You can still hear audio, and work during commercials, resuming playback instantly.
As for installation, this couldn't be easier.
1. Download modified Flash 10.2 HERE CHOOSE LINK #2 LABELED Flash 10.2 + Hulu_2.apk OR from this dropbox public link
2. Uninstall your current version of Flash using the Manage Applications setting.
3. Reboot
4. Install modified version of Flash 10.2
5. Install Dolphin Mini from the Market HERE
6. In Dolphin Mini, change the user agent to Desktop (Menu>Toolbox>UserAgent>Desktop) and change plug-ins to always on (Menu>Toolbox>Settings>Enable Plug-Ins>Always On). This will ensure Flash content plays back immediately.
7. Go to hulu.com and enjoy all the great content on the go with your Android Honeycomb Tablet!!!!
Instructions updated to reflect the following contribution.

If you are having trouble, for example, Hulu is telling you Flash is not installed, please leave a post in the thread noting your model(Wifi or 3g), your build number(HRI39, HRI66 etc), your kernel(modified or stock) and your recovery. It has been determined that a custom kernel is required for this mod to work appropriately. If you have any idea as to why this may be the case, please dump your ideas in this thread.

I can confirm it DOES work with Dolphin HD, however, I have noticed MUCH better performance using Dolphin Mini. It's very light weight and the pages load very smoothly. If you are looking to replicate my positive experiences, I highly recommend Dolphin Mini.
Just watched Obama's latest speech. Works!
I did notice a very slight lag between the audio and video, but it's working (360p video on full screen).

It is my intention to have a tutorial for anyone who wants to watch Hulu on their Honeycomb tablet. When you say it doesn't work for YOU, I want to know why, so that I can help others who may run in to a similar situation. Of course it will work in the stock browser, as long as you change the user agent to desktop. This of course will be reset to default android upon restart, unless you are using a modified framework.
The goal of this post is show how you can consistently get quality Hulu playback without the need to adjust settings, more than once, upon the initial install.
Being that XDA is a community driven site, your input is appreciated. If you get a chance, see if you can get Hulu working under the conditions I suggested, and compare your experience to the stock browser with the user agent changed. I'd be curious to know the results.

You may not be able to download and install from your Xoom. You can either download it from your desktop and transfer it, or try this dropbox link HERE

doesn't work. tells me i have to install flash player.
i've downloaded the second link the one that says flash 10.2 + hulu and then uninstalled the market version of flash. i then reinstalled the the modded flash and installed dolphin browser mini.
I changed the ua string to desktop, but there is no add-on values. There's only a setting that says plugin support, and i checked always on.
I've tried it three different times and each time it can't detect the flash player in the browser.
I DLed from the Dropbox link, uninstalled the old flash, installed the new APK, installed Dolphin Mini and updated the user agent and plug in settings but I still get the message:
"Hulu requires Flash PLayer 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player before continuing."
Bummer.
It does not work for me either. Hulu says that Flash needs to be installed for it to work. I tried to install it from my Xoom and to email it to myself and neither worked.

[Q] Hulu Plus App work for anyone?

The new Hulu Plus app just came out and I've got a gTab with the following in the about tablet section:
Model: TnT G-Harmony
And 2.2
Tap UI version: TnT G-Harmony v1
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty
Build: FRF91
I've used this as my daily for a while. What do I have to do to get the tab to be seen as compatible with Netflix and Hulu Plus app? new build.prop? Thanks in advance.
Not sure if it fully works as I don't have an account to log in with...
However, it did stream the "free gallery" on my Gtablet running CM7.03.
Netflix definitely works on CM7.03.
I do not see them in the Market but they have both been posted around. For Netflix I just download it on my Droid (supported device) and transfer it over to my Gtablet. For HuluPlus, Droid-life.com has the app.
I've got the apk, but I get 'Device not supported' post install. Could you just try the install to see if your build is supported/no errors?
I'm searching for my new daily build and wondering what's best combo for flash, netflix, hulu plus now and video playback in general. Want to stick to Froyo I think until HW acceleration is better implemented on later versions. Also, I see baseline 1.2 and Caulk+Clem for best kernel. I'm not advanced but can follow the steps to drop a new rom on. What's your opinion and could you point me to a solid daily rom noting above?
Like I said.....it installed and I was able to stream the "free gallery", I just can't log in to see if it gives all/full functions of those with an account.
Running stock CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (stable)
It runs fine for me without any noticible issues. I didn't have to modify the build.prop or anything else; just installed it without any tricks.
I just watched an episode of The Daily Show and it ran great. The video ran much smoother than watching it via the hacked Flash file via the Hulu website so I'm thinking the video player in the Hulu Plus app plays video modified for mobile devices unlike the Hulu website.
Here is the apk. Enjoy.
Note: If you have videos in your queue that are tagged as "web only" then this Hulu Plus app will not play them. So I would recommend keeping the hacked Flash for Hulu so you can watch them via the web browser.

For Netflix I used the latest version from the Market and it works great without any build.prop mods. Same for the Hulu Plus app (see my previous post for apk). I'm running CyanogenMod 7.0.3 (stable) haven't tried it on my VEGAn 5.1.1 gTab yet.
It definitely works on Cyanogen 7.0.3. Got Netflix, Hulu+, & Flash on my tablet now.
If Plants vs. Zombies wouldn't lock up & it would boot up faster, I would have reached tablet nirvana.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
For Hulu+, I see it in market using the mahimahi string in my build prop and the device set as olympus on a froyo rom based on calkulin 1.1. I too get device unsupported when launching.
For PvZ, you can get it working, but need froyo and this kernle: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128866

Thank you for this apk. It works flawlessly for me on Vegan GE. With the netflix fix posted earlier in the link below, and now this hulu plus app I don't ever see me needing to leave Vegan GE. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15147560&postcount=13
so is there any way to get hulu+ working on froyo
hulu+ on Flashback 10.1
I've managed to get around the "device not supported" problem with hulu+ app working on flashback 10.1, but the video shows up in the bottom left hand corner with the top half of the vid cut off. I've tried setting the resolution of playback to every setting. I also tried different density settings for the display, nothing seems to be able to move the vid to the center of the screen. Anyone having the same problem? Anyone have any other ideas on how to get the video to the center of the screen? Sorry if this has been covered, did a search here and in the general questions sections, didn't see anything, I hope i didn't miss it...lol
I haven't tried it on Flashback but even if it works for you perfectly it will still limit what videos will play (only ones tagged "mobile") on it based on what agreements Hulu has with the content provider.
I stopped using the app on my gTab almost as soon as I installed it when I realized that I can play everything (tv, mobile, computer) Hulu has to offer via my browser and the hacked Flash for Hulu unlike the Hulu Plus app.
Just my two cents...

I don't think you missed anything. I've tried everything you have tried. The video doesn't move. I assumed that the app thinks this is an ASUS tablet which has a higher resolution. I tried editing build.prop but nothing has worked. Hopefully the new kernel will correct this for us. I cut off cable because of HULU and would like to have it on my tab as well. Just tired of looking at Froyo and Gingerbread.
up and running
Well i gave up on getting flashback to work right. Flashed CM7.1 and i have the hulu+ and netflix working...now onto get the hbo go and max go apps working.

Flash not working all of a sudden

Running CM9 Alpha 2, been running for months with no problems. Today I was trying to watch a flash video from a site that worked perfectly for me for months, but it was giving me a wierd aspect ratio. So I decided to download Chrome and see how that worked. I did, but it said that flash was not installed. So I went to the Market, but found out that adobe is not letting anyone download flash anymore. So I found an apk of the flash player, installed that, and now flash does not work in ANY app, all I get is the little blue lego box. I went to Titanium and restored a backup of Flash Player, but that still won't work. I have since tried two different apk's of the latest Flash player I found, and none of them are working at all. I have tried every browser I can think of, Chrome, Opera, Dolphin, ICS+, Skyfire, none of them work at all now.
Any suggestions?
Quick update: Flash IS working for things like ads and banners, just not for video. I also saw online that Adobe AIR might be the problem, so I uninstalled that, but with no help.
Another update: I tried my MLB app, which uses Flash player for video, and it plays video just fine. So it seems that Flash video is just not working in ALL browsers....
Flash doesn't work well in the stock or Chrome browsers. I found that if I'm tryin' to watch something to do with Flash, I need to use either Firefox or Dolphin for Tab - I use the latter at the moment, cuz it seems to work pretty well.
Granted, I have an older version of Flash (one that the Market never updated anyway, so it must be as new as it can be). Might be something to consider - install Dolphin or Firefox, THEN install the Flash APK, and you should be able to have it work from there. At least, that's what I did.
I had a problem with BBC I player but when I went into ics browser and changed the settings from Android to desktop it worked, might be worth a try .
Checkout the PUFFIN web browser... turn of force gpu though here's a good site to use it on

Adobe Flash 11 will not sideload on new TF701

I purchased my TF701 last Friday and missed the boat on getting Adobe Flash installed before the August 15 Google Play cut off for Android 4.0.3 devices.
I tried following the Flash install instructions they have for JellyBean.
I've downloaded the apk files from adobe.
I tried version 11 and version 10.3.
After I install the file, it appears to have loaded, but despite trying every browser (including boat, dolphin, firefox), all I get is the blue lego with a question mark where video should be.
My device was purchased in Canada. Google Play says Adobe Flash 11 is not available in my country.
I usually open my browser after factory reset and they ask me if I want to install Adobe Flash Player. I say Yes and they take me to the Play Store to install the flash player.

Did you make sure you have the plug-ins set to On Demand, Never, or Always in the browser.
I always set mine to On Demand and it appears just like you stated above, until I click it, then it will play (hence, On Demand)
Try that...
Download Market Enabler from the Play Store.
I will try on demand tonight when I get home. I did try "never" and "Always" for plugins last night.
For those who are looking for Market Enabler, I found it at:
code.google.com/p/market-enabler
Through a combination of Rooting my device, markat enabler and/or choosing "on-demand" I got flash to work. Thanks to all for the assistance.

As far as I know the default Browser is a version of Chrome and this version allows the side-load of Flash. Chrome Browser on its own, as an app, has a Flash support built in, I think! On this I could be wrong as I don't use it because the Android version doesn't allow extensions and the only reason I would use it is if I could run Adblock. :crying:
Chrome on Android does not support flash. I go to few sites that require it for viewing video and wants an updated version.
I was able to side load Flash Player, from TB. I did get my TB file from a TF700T. I confirmed it installed and was working in Dolphin for Pad.
I have no idea it made a difference or not, but I rooted my 700 first thing. It's still locked and running stock (like there's is much choice for alternative daily drivers).

Chrome for android does not support flash. Google has openly stated it will never support flash in preference for newer and better things to come. Flash is being phased out. Deal with it.
Try Dolphin or Boat browser on Android, those are the two highest rated ones, most people on these forums say either one is excellent depending on your needs.

No need to be so snippy. Flash may be phased out some time in the future, but it's not phased out right now. And some of us depend on Flash to view live newscasts such as streaming CNN, streaming a weather channel, etc.
I switched to Android several years ago specifically due to Flash support. And I will keep my Android phone and tablet on a version of Android that supports Flash so long as Flash is still being used on the sites that I visit.
On a side note, thanks to Splashtop, I can watch Flash streams and videos from my PC, even after Android stops supporting Flash.
It is confirmed that Flash is supported and working in Jellybean, so there's still some time yet.

Yep, I use Boat for Flash without being rooted.
Chrome on Android has NO Flash support, at all. No plugin support of any kind, in fact.
The problem is that most sites are never going to get rid of Flash. A lot of webdevelopers are lazy, they don't want to learn HTML5. Thus, we'll need Flash for at least another decade, maybe two.
Did you bother following this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774336
I love my android devices, but the lack of flash kills web browsing - and thats 50% of what many people use these tablets for.
If the new Windows RT and Windows 8 tablets have full flash support its not going to help Android or iDevice sales.
I'm getting really tired of having empty blank boxes on news sites where a video is supposed to be - even with the current adobe flash side-loaded there's still stuff that doesn't work on Android, because there is zero effort now to support it.
If the new Windows tablets provide fast web browsing with full Flash support that resembles a PC browser I will consider them.
I suppose everyone will argue that there will be zero app support. But for many people a tablet has to do only 4 things:
1. Browse the Web
2. Play audio and video files
3. Allow you to view and work with documents
4. Play games
If windows RT/8 solves the first 3 I can overlook the 4th. If it can do all 4 its a home run.

Struggled with a friend's transformer. Finally updated to Asus Jellybean. Googled helpx.adobe.com android versions. Sideloaded the latest version, and it works like a charm.
This is kinda strange.
Even the framework may be different, Flash works with Note 3 (4.3) and Note 8.0 (4.2.2) in combination with Dolphin.
Here is a Adobe Flash apk that will install on your TF701:
