Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to check how does skyfire allow playing of flash files?
I am watching videos on vimeo and youtube without a problem.... Its weird.... I thought this couldn't be done?
BTW I DO have Flash 10.1 installed on Captivate, but doesn't work on default browser, but everything else through their player does.....

Skyfire supposed to play flash with no need of anyother software to install & I have a major problem not playing any flash on it says "Web Kit Files" missing, any help please?
I'm having the same issues...
I installed flash for 2.1 and while it will most definitely load a game off addictinggames.com i can't tap any of the buttons.
I'm more interested in using it for firstrow.net so I can watch live soccer and baseball, but everytime I direct to that site the regular browser crashes (tries to load flash app) and skyfire gives me the flash 9 exclamtion point.
has anyone had any success withgetting flash to run on this thing? I wouldn't even mind if flash lite 4 ran on it just so long as it started the video. Skyfire will load vimeo but not any others....
I can't believe that everyone else in the entrie android 2.1 community is having zero issues, but I can't find a single thread about issues... the engadget video of the desire running the flash video is so tantalizing...I want the same :-(
just so everyone knows what I have installed, I gott he flash_for_21.apk from the zip file and it installed no issue. .swf files will play in the browser...but anything that has a vimeo, tube8, or regular old flash plugin will not load. the regular browser crashes every now and then and skyfire just refuses to load it (or it notifies that there is a video to watch, and it'll buffer and the video requiring a play click won't load)
help please?! I've got my captivate rooted, sideloading, and bloatware-free, flash is my final frontier!

That's odd, doesn't Skyfire use server-side rendering for flash and push it to the phone after compression? Just like on Windows Mobile?
I'd gotten flash videos to play on my Captivate using Skyfire, just not embedded in the page. I had to click on the little, "Video" tab on the bottom Skyfire menu and then it played.

Same here. Once I do that I can play flash video perfectly.
I can do that, but I'm much more interested in embedded flash working with browser or skyfire.
I have some more **shady** places that I can watch live sports from would be amazing if they worked
UPDATE 5/4: It has been determined, although it remains unclear as to why, that you need a modified kernel in order for this mod to work. It is my intention to get Hulu working across the Honeycomb platform, so if you have any input as to why Tiamat's kernel is required, please address it in this thread

Download links at the bottom of the post.
Using a modified version of the new (4/29)10.2 Flash update, created by imneveral0ne, from the Thunderbolt forums, and Dolphin Mini, with minor settings adjustments, you can enjoy smooth, clear playback of content from Hulu, in it's full browser format. This includes access to all content, including those deemed unavailable for access by mobile devices or TV's. The apk modification essentially changes the user agent of Flash as it appears on the net.
Previously, this has been possible using a similarly modified apk, changing your user agent to desktop, and viewing Hulu using an alternate URL, www.hulu.com/widget/player. While not only presenting an awful UI, this method of playback resulted in choppy video that often fell out of sync.
If you are currently not using Dolphin Mini as a daily browser, it will be easy for you to install it, and implement it as a single purpose browser. Just change the homepage to hulu.com. It's UI is conveniently matched to the design of Hulu's website, which makes for a clean experience. It's light and fast, and could be a daily driver for those looking for a minimalist browser.
The entire experience is smoother, Flash is behaving like it should. Selecting options from within the Hulu playback interface has been a nightmare, but with the updated flash, and HRI66, it's an entirely pleasant way to watch great content on the Xoom.
As for playback, you will find smooth playing video, at 480p. 480p looks great on the Xoom and the Tegra 2 handles it beautifully. By manually lowering the resolution of choice, to either 360p or 288p, you will notice the decrease in resolution, however, you should increase your available bandwidth and relax the stress on your processor, likely saving battery life.
Regarding HD, it is possible, with Hulu Plus of course, to play video in 720p . However, because hardware acceleration has yet to be enabled, the resulting video will be choppy and most likely unwatchable. This has been tested with an over-clocked Tegra2 at 1.5ghz. It would be fair to assume that when the Xoom and/or Honeycomb receive the update Adobe is referring to, 720p HD playback will be possible. In the mean time, 480p looks fantastic.
Also of note, true multitasking is possible using this mod. You can go back to your homescreen, open new apps, check your mail, and your Hulu video will remain playing in the background. You can still hear audio, and work during commercials, resuming playback instantly.
As for installation, this couldn't be easier.
1. Download modified Flash 10.2 HERE CHOOSE LINK #2 LABELED Flash 10.2 + Hulu_2.apk OR from this dropbox public link
2. Uninstall your current version of Flash using the Manage Applications setting.
3. Reboot
4. Install modified version of Flash 10.2
5. Install Dolphin Mini from the Market HERE
6. In Dolphin Mini, change the user agent to Desktop (Menu>Toolbox>UserAgent>Desktop) and change plug-ins to always on (Menu>Toolbox>Settings>Enable Plug-Ins>Always On). This will ensure Flash content plays back immediately.
7. Go to hulu.com and enjoy all the great content on the go with your Android Honeycomb Tablet!!!!
Instructions updated to reflect the following contribution.

One thing i would recommend, uninstall flash, reboot, then install the new version 2 hulu flash file. If you want to test if you have the right one installed, go to Flash Version and it should show WIN 99 99 99 99.

If you are having trouble, for example, Hulu is telling you Flash is not installed, please leave a post in the thread noting your model(Wifi or 3g), your build number(HRI39, HRI66 etc), your kernel(modified or stock) and your recovery. It has been determined that a custom kernel is required for this mod to work appropriately. If you have any idea as to why this may be the case, please dump your ideas in this thread.
bout to try this out now. thanks
confirmed working. good deal
Will this also work with Dolphin HD? I have never used mini...

You have not followed the instructions. You need to ensure your useragent is set to Desktop, and that you have enabled add-ons to Always-On.

I can confirm it DOES work with Dolphin HD, however, I have noticed MUCH better performance using Dolphin Mini. It's very light weight and the pages load very smoothly. If you are looking to replicate my positive experiences, I highly recommend Dolphin Mini.
Just watched Obama's latest speech. Works!
I did notice a very slight lag between the audio and video, but it's working (360p video on full screen).

You did not read or understand my post. I said it doesn't work for ME. The add ons were enable. I can say that the full site works for me in stock browser since installing. Thanks for taking the time to work this out. Good luck with it.

It is my intention to have a tutorial for anyone who wants to watch Hulu on their Honeycomb tablet. When you say it doesn't work for YOU, I want to know why, so that I can help others who may run in to a similar situation. Of course it will work in the stock browser, as long as you change the user agent to desktop. This of course will be reset to default android upon restart, unless you are using a modified framework.
The goal of this post is show how you can consistently get quality Hulu playback without the need to adjust settings, more than once, upon the initial install.
Being that XDA is a community driven site, your input is appreciated. If you get a chance, see if you can get Hulu working under the conditions I suggested, and compare your experience to the stock browser with the user agent changed. I'd be curious to know the results.
For some reason, I can't install the apk it says cannot open directory.

You may not be able to download and install from your Xoom. You can either download it from your desktop and transfer it, or try this dropbox link HERE
Let me know if that URL works.
Thanks.
That url works. However its saying that flash isn't installed but it it now. I also can't seem to find the setting for enabling add ons, I did find the setting for enabling plug ins though. Are they the same?
Thanks

Press the menu button in Dolphin Mini, then on the right side, settings. In settings you should be able to change the add-on values.

doesn't work. tells me i have to install flash player.
i've downloaded the second link the one that says flash 10.2 + hulu and then uninstalled the market version of flash. i then reinstalled the the modded flash and installed dolphin browser mini.
I changed the ua string to desktop, but there is no add-on values. There's only a setting that says plugin support, and i checked always on.
I've tried it three different times and each time it can't detect the flash player in the browser.
I DLed from the Dropbox link, uninstalled the old flash, installed the new APK, installed Dolphin Mini and updated the user agent and plug in settings but I still get the message:
"Hulu requires Flash PLayer 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player before continuing."
Bummer.
It does not work for me either. Hulu says that Flash needs to be installed for it to work. I tried to install it from my Xoom and to email it to myself and neither worked.

I cannot replicate that error. Try clearing data/cache for Flash after installing the modified apk.
I want to help get this running for anyone who wants it!

Try clearing you cache and perhaps rebooting your Xoom, lets get this working!
I dont know if any of you guys have played with the new flashback honeycomb or not but the latest update as far as i could see, is just that it has a flashplayer apk now. So of course if you have your honeycomb setup beautifuly on your gtab.............why would you want to reflash it just for that right? anywho i just tried it in illuminate and it works perfectly here's a link to JUST the modded flash player. it fixed and has now made honeycomb my daily driver
http://fileape.com/dl/veumV7066g6YWyO1
as flashbacks post says in the dev section
"(a4.2)
Added a EXPERIMENTAL FlashPlayer by zebwen. This unfortunately does not fix flash video playback on most sites (YouTube and BBC iPlayer do not work for example, but the small videos on the Yahoo news website do). What this DOES fix, is most other Flash applications, such as web games etc. Using this patched version of Flash, Kongregate Arcade works correctly, as well as other apps such as Zoodles Kid Mode that use flash within the application to play games."
or just install the normal flash player from the market and use opera that works toooo
huh? in flashback honeycomb simply by using opera and flash 10.3 I can get all the flash videos? I thought flash 10.3 was not working on honeycomb?
I have not flashed to any honeycomb alphas yet strictly due to flash video issue.
works with just installing normal flash and using opera, which means its a webkit issue, mind you the video has tearing in it because of drivers (so im told) but definately working
I use the matket flash 10.3 and the dolphin HD browser and it plays all flash videos like youtube on desktop mode and all flash games, facebook apps too. Most browsers out there dont support flash idk why, though i know the default browser supports flash too but lacks add ons anf so on. Using CMT 7
this is about honeycomb dude...not everything else
Dolphin Browser HD works, but need to set the user agent at IPad in setting
It worked for me when watching BBC video.
Anyone else having issues with the new flash 11.0.1.152 . I'm on GTabComb 3.3. When using both the stock browser & Opera Mobile flash is acting weird. Some sites I get not video, some it keeps reloading the page over & over, others refuse to play at all & these are sites ones that previously worked on Opera Mobile.
I'm having a different issue. my webpages load correctly using opera and dolphin HD. my issue is lets say youtubes site for example the video is garbled like a broken NES game sound plays fine. but another site works perfect with no issues. its hit or miss. I tried brilliant corners, C&C, beasty, FB, and Vegantab all same issue. I recently tried Pershoots latest kernel with Vegantab (GB) and same issue is still present.
I think I'm close, but I am not a hacker, I'm simply a direction follower. So, I've got no idea what to do next.
Here's what i've done -
I have flashback 8.1 installed. I have done most of the upgrades offered in 9.0, and am having NO issues with SOD so I haven't upgraded. As near as I can tell, the only thing I don't have is the new kernel.
I used the hacked flash player from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077914
It's version 103.185.25. (I first tried the hacked flash that was included with the flashback 8.1 distribution, but got the "not supported" message from Hulu.)
Using the 10.3.185.25 modded flash, and any of these three browsers - Dolphin HD, Stock Browser, or Skyfire 4.0, I have sound, but no video. I have all three browsers set to "desktop".
I have that at 288, 360, or 480 playback. It doesn't seem to matter. Opera mobile doesn't seem to work at all.
I didn't have any success replacing that library file in my last install of Flashback 8.1, though I haven't tried since I re-flashed last week.
So, am I close, or will this not work? Should I be trying anything else? All comments appreciated. Thanks much.
11.0.1.152 is the latest version
Hulu checks for two things that I know of to watch it on the gTab. It checks if the Flash you're running is a Windows version of Flash and also if it is the latest version (although this check sometimes doesn't happen every time).
What I would recommend to you is to uninstall the version of Flash you have on your gTab first. Then (if you can) install the latest version of Flash from the Market. Then do what I have recommended in the thread below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290504
Note: It seems to me that if you want Hulu to play without issues on the gTab go to Hulu.com and log in and then click on Account (next to your login name), select Privacy & Settings, and at the lower right corner of that page set your Playback Quality to 288p. The picture won't be crystal clear but all of the shows will play and play well on the gTab at that setting.
