Hey guys please help me am going crazy with my galaxy note this the first tome I use android so I don't know much about anyway I have program called my data manager and it shows me everything that uses my internet so I found is serveses and some other apps like textfree and other apparently like tune on radio use of my internet my os. Services used 100 m in 2 days which I only have 1 GB. PER A month please gimme application to control what apparently can use my 3g network or anything to solve this thank u guys
Try 3g Watchdog,
Well I have not used it for a while but if you are rooted use LBE privacy. It can monitor which app used how much of data. It also has firewall, so you can block sucker apps.
You do know that Tune In Radio is an internet radio program so any and all activity on that program will use your network data?
Well I have a radical solution for you
Go to Settings > Accounts & sync and disable background data..However this comes with a sacrifice: Market will not work but you can enable when you want to use Market and disable it again..
But you will have full control on which app to use your data connection because you will have to do it manually, e.g. in Gmail you will have to refresh it by yourself to check new emails..
This has ups and downs, it's up to you
2 tools will solve ur ur problem completely, droidwall which will block all apps including system appd if uwant to use 3G and only use wifi, and onovo which will monitor all of ur 3G internet activity and even block ur 3G usage when reaching a certain adjusted quota limit..try them they willdo the trick.

OMG you guys are amazing about helping people anyway I think droidwall will do the trick but the problem I have no root 2.3.6 and my kernel can't be rooted so I think I will wait for ics. To release then I will root it I don't wanna root it now then unrooted. In 2 weeks when it comes out anyway thank you guys that was a good help

I'm looking for an app that lets me choose which application is currently allowed to use internet data.
My network operator has high costs, except if you use their web proxy to surf.
So I need a way to blacklist all applications except the web browser, when I'm connected through 3g data.
Can you help me?
By the sound of it Droid Wall is what you are after, it requires a rooted phone but then gives you complete control over what apps can access the internet

Thank you very much!
This would definitely solve my problem, unless I don't like to have a rooted phone.
If someone else has any suggestion he is welcome!
Hi,
Was wondering if you could give me some tips on background apps.
I'm using still stock rom XXJF5, from Portugal's TMN network, and advanced task killer.
What happens is that sometimes the phone gets really hot when in standby, draining the battery and i'm almost sure some background app is using data connection even though advanced task doesn't show it.
If i set it to low, some more stuff shows up...like google maps, daily briefing, weatherbug, etc. But none of them is authorized to update automatically, and background services is disabled.
So, ultimately how can i control the data access for the apps? They seem like loose cannons transmitting data whenever they feel like it. Can anyone give me some hints please? Is there some app to filter which app transmits data?
Many thanks
there is the Android Firewall feature on the home page of the XDA website.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8386254&postcount=89
you can use that to control network access to your Apps
Thanks a lot for the reply. It seems ideal, but could there be another way without having to root the device ? Perhaps a similar app...
Hey!
I'm getting crazy here...
I do not have an internet flatrate on my phone, everything is prepaid, i.e. every time I access the internet via mobile data I lose money !
My provider lets me access facebook for free -> I sometimes use it on the go.
Eventhough its free I lose money through "Android OS" downloading stuff...
I'm using Droidwall and only allowed Dolphin to use mobile data. Android OS still has access somehow...
Does anybody know how to stop Android OS from using data? I don't have any syncs on. Even when using the option "restrict background data" i lose money though Android OS. My Data Manager also just tells me "dolphin" and "OS services"...
Hope you can help!

Thanks for trying to help but you cannot imagine how often i do a factory reset. This does NOT fix the problem of Android OS.
Have you enabled - back up my settings, etc. to my google account ?
In most ICS Rom are widget buttons where you can find "Toggle sync". Disable synchronization by this widget doesn't help?

I disabled the sync toggle from the power management widget...
Its driving me crazy! :/
Hmm, if you switched off general synchronization and it doesn't help, maybe try switch off synchronize in every application, e.g, weather, google play etc.
It's a bit strange, but maybe it'll help
Don't know if that would help, since i use Droidwall to block all internet accesses on mobile data exept Dolphin. AndroidOS still has access but i cannot figure out why...
Which processes are AndroidOS? Is there any Spy App that could tell me this?
Hmmm.... use a DroidWall from Google Play, if your phone is rooted.
After install, you can precisely set which app would you like to grant net access, and it is possible to allow access over wifi only.
Another what you can try is PermissionsDenied. Here you can set the net access via each app permission.
Now Im saying it thrice. I am using Droidwall!
AndroidOS is still eating my money...

I guess it's not much solace, but I'm experiencing the same. I know a bit about Android/Linux/etc., so I took a look at the firewall rules. Theoretically it is possible that some packets are leaking through the rules of DroidWall (or the firewall rules of "avast! Mobile Security" ... but they are mostly the same as DroidWall's rules). Later I'll test this by adding a custom rule that logs everything that gets past DroidWall's rules and see if any traffic shows up that should be caught by DroidWall. I'll report back my results here.
Ok, I got to the bottom of this. In my case I was seeing very small amounts of data usage and it was attributed to the "Android OS" app/component in the "Settings / Data usage / Mobile" screen. As it turned out, the small traffic was caused by regular DNS requests (since I had "avast! Mobile Security" installed which always allows outgoing DNS requests ... regardless of your firewall settings).
I wrote a pretty thorough post on my experiences in my blog: muzso.hu/node/4943
P.S.: I do not have yet 10 posts on xda-developers so I was not allowed to insert a proper link to my blog post (but I guess a copy&paste is not too much to ask for if you're interested in the details)
A few weeks ago i finaly got myself to install a firewall (noroot firewall), and it is amazing just how much other apps are sending your information and getting stuff from the internet... ES file explorer alone is trying to use internet every few seconds non-stop, so i just unblocked my computers ip address to browse pc files via wifi and blocked everything else, and android itself is creating a blocked access list with the size of chat with 100k users... Using firewall is also an easy way to block all the ads in offline apps. Are you guys ok with all the apps using so much internet ? Do you also use firewall to block all the unnecessary internet access from all the apps ?
Also, what kind of android stuff can be changed by app updates of by letting apps to access the internet ? Like when operators are trying to block note 7 and limit the battery capacity, is that done via app update or does it require full android update ?
hey i am using data with af wall plus with root & xposed
but still below apps are using data & cant restrict them ?
android OS
GOOGLE SERVICES
can any one suggest me xposed another mod to restrict these apps from using data ???
Please see screenshot & help me guyz !!
I'm assuming you mean afwall+, and you've configured those apps not to be allowed to agrees the internet yet somehow they do?
I use afwall myself since the days of my old note 2 and never had issues, but look into the following solutions, maybe they'll help :
A vpn style firewall, there's one listed in the xda labs app
Enable afwall xposed add-on, reboot, go to its settings and tick the fix download manager leak option
In afwall settings, your can enable the vpn control, then restrict those apps to vpn access only, maybe it'll help.
Can't think of any other options atm, i hope this helps you.

XPrivacy. You can restrict network permissions on both those apps and any other apps you want. Infact you can restrict pretty much any permission you want with Xprivacy.

Lightning wall
Check out this xposed firewall called LIGHTNING FIREWALL
valid alternative? not real alternative?
Did someone tried: PMP = protect my privacy ?
available from the playverse and selected stores near you.
Afwall+ with it's granularity is a powerful tool.
Xprivacy is a strong and brillant project with a community.
So back -for sure for me- to the opening question: PMP is good for the phone (and the "my" that's in the phone)? Is flexible enough to fully control all the little happy apps running around in the phone...?

For the data leakages the answer in post #2 by @ticktock666 is the way to go.
But for that to work in a proper mode: check that afwall+ has all the rights from the start (the veryvery start)...
Also afwall+ gives the users a pretty fine granularity when it comes to the rules.
..or did you noticed (captured? logged?) data leaks in other moments of your device work-day?
(es.: on wifi? on data? during the switch from one to the other? a single app? a sequence of apps? our beloved playframe-g-whatever?)

How do you detect leaks? Do you disconnect Wi-Fi/mobile data on reboot?

I don't see any screenshot.... What I use is Xprivacy Pro because it can restrict any Android permissions, and it lets you know what permissions were used, and when. It can be used to show application usage data, and parameters used by data. However pro version of Xprivacy is required for those features. I would really recommend it, but I know it's a lot to take in at first. If you don't know much about Androids, and how they work, then it's probably not for you. There are detailed instructions on how to use it properly.
You can find the the developer's detailed help page here - https://github.com/M66B/XPrivacy#xprivacy
The XDA community forum on Xprivacy is here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xprivacy-ultimate-android-privacy-app-t2320783
I hope that this helps you out. Good luck, and I hope you figure it out.
Best of luck to you....
