ok folks !!
time to share your opinions, suggestions and experience !
which is the better kernel for battery life and performance !
battery life is of prime importance to me !
thanks...
This is obviously subjective. The standard XDA response is "try them out and stick with what you like.
My personal preference, however, is Faux123's dual-core kernel.

I'm using Faux's kernal right now and it's running nicely. Tried out kozmikkernal and it was great too. Hard to tell the difference with the usage i do. Kinda curious about the technical differences and what those differences should do in theory. I know kozmikkernal and BCs kernal both have sweep to wake which can be a nice feature if you don't like using your power button
I use my phone like a teenager... Not to text... But.... With faux123's kernel... I get like 5 hours of screen time... And when I let my son play games on my phone... He plays constantly and gets like 4 hours screen time...
If I use my phone like a normal person... I can hit 16 hours

What is the sleekest rom that is farely fast in quadrant yet the battery life (combined with a modem and kernel) is dependable for light to medium use? Im currently on pheonix ultimate. Not only is it fairly slow but the battery life is not the best even when screen is off and wiring and data are off.
Sorry if it has been asked before. I prefer a gingerbread based captivate rom but anything 2.2 or over is suffice. Maybe explain too what a good modem and kernel are that don't necessarily oc or uv but can...that don't drain battery!

Haha... Wait for it...
Not sure what the answer to your question is, but this hardly belongs in the Dev section. Q&A would probably be best. I have already sent request for this to be moved. Oh well... hope you get an answer after it's in the right section.

Quadrant means nothing. Dude
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
It's hard to say which ROM is the *best*, you just have to give them all a shot and see which works best for yourself. Battery wise, doesn't only depend on the ROM itself but also if your battery is old, you might consider changing it.
I don't think quadrant matter either, just numbers, as long as the phone is smooth when I use it, it's fine with me.
Quadrant doesn't mean a thing, but I have found that kh3 roms have the best battery life.
Currently Pinnacle 1.2 and have never been happier
fusion v is fenomenal. fasty is great too, if you can deal with the obtrusive theme and animations
Why don't you just try flashing some roms and see what best suits you instead of asking a community to publicity place a value judgement on other developers hard work?
And for your edification, this is the type of question for.... you guessed it.... q&a, not development.

No rom is the best. But my experience Native roms tend to run smoother for longer periods of time, and 2.3.4 KH3 roms have the best battery life. Dont ask for "best" because there is no best you gain some things and loose other. So try them out.
Can any one help me to find the best kernel available for Ics rc 4.2 ?
I have tried glitch, semaphore and of course the stock one .
But I face serious issues with battery life . Android os eats plenty of battery and the battery is always dead in 6 hours !
Thank you in advance .

Semaphore 0.9.0 is very very stable. I'm using it on RC 4.2 on SGS-I9000 and it looks like the most fluid at all.Best balance between Battery/performance.

rightly said..RC4.2 in itself was quite laggy..atleast in my observation..i flashed semaphore 0.9.0 recently and suddenly its as smooth as anything..i use smartassv2..
battery life looks good..no FC reboots etc so far! wayyy better than stock kernel.
I'm also using ICSSGS RC4.2 with Semaphore 0.9 (smartassV2 governor), and the battery life is quite good.
Bu I observed that data connection and screen consume a lot of battery. With data disabled, and a normal use, my battery lasts about 2 days. But if I enable data, the battery lasts just a day. And if I use it (check facebook, twitter, reader, that-is-to-say, if my screen is on), the battery is empty in the afternoon.
Do you have your data enabled all the time ? I think this is the component that uses the more the battery..

I have already tried that kernel .
And no data is not enabled all day but for some part of the day.
I know that thing eats battery. But in my battery usage it shows "Android OS" keeps my phone awake. And that is the reason the main reason the battery dies quickly!!

I've used Faux123's kernel for awhile, has anyone used both and if so which has the best battery life?
faux123's still has the best battery life and speed in my opinion. I've been using it since the first release, and my battery life can last up to three days with heavy usage while using the kernel, I even had it overclocked to 1.7 GHz.
Also, we now have a Q&A section, please remember to post your question in the appropriate section next time.
wow!
3 Days is a miracle from my experiences, I believe this is with light use! I must admit I find myself curious to try it!
i have general and development bookmarked so I didn't even know there was a question section, thanks though!
No problem, I hope you have come to a conclusion to which kernel works best for you.
Faux's kernel is still my favorite, i feel like kozmik's has too much extra stuff like sleep to wake, im sure that isn't great on the battery life.

It has negligible impact on battery. All it does essentially is imitate the power button to unlock.
Personally if I felt that battery life was the moat important thing about a phone then I would just buy an non smart flipphone

battery friendly would mean a kernel would have to be developed for a rom, as its mostly not the rom where the battery friendliness comes from.

Your best bet is to base it off of stock and strip it down without removing anything that will create any instability. Features can create instability.

True, i only said slimbean because of its small file size, dont know if that would make any difference or not
Please try the ROMs for yourself, these types of "what's your favorite" threads aren't allowed.

Hello World! What's your current ROM and kernel you're running on, and what do you normally get for screen on time? I'd like to get some suggestions.. Would like to get through a whole day comfortably
It doesn't really matter how much screen on time someone else gets, it doesn't mean you'll ever achieve that same amount. Screen uses a pretty constant amount of power per brightness setting, but the other things that use power will take away from that and not all those things are to do with CPU usage, which is the only thing a ROM/Kernel can affect.
On top of which:
"Best" ROM.
There is no such thing as a best ROM. The question itself is ambiguous. "Best" is obviously a subjective term.
What I want from a ROM may well differ from what you want from a ROM, ergo - what is best for me could be worst for you.
If you are asking what the most popular ROMs are, or which ROMs people are using, you can see which threads stay around on the first few pages (and have the most posts) in the Android Development or Original Android Development forums. You can also see what other people are running by reading the What are you running on your Nexus 5 thread.
If you are asking which is the most stable, being a Nexus device - they're all pretty stable.
If you are asking which is best on Battery, ROMs only affect battery if they have a feature that is badly coded. You will likely be able to read about this in the ROM threads. ROMs do not impact battery life. The only impact to battery life are your apps, your settings, how you use the phone and mostly, environmental issues such as Phone Signal.
For tips about improving battery life, please read [Battery Life Help] Troubleshoot battery issues here!
"Best" Kernel
There is no such thing as the "Best" kernel. What we all want from a kernel is different. Again, many people have the misconception that Kernels affect battery life. Let's get this cleared up. Although Kernel devs will build in optimisations and efficiencies that will improve battery life, these are very, VERY tiny...and if 1 kernel has these optimisations, they likely all have.
People will often say "Kernel x is better than kernel y for battery life". This is actually wrong. Kernels respond to user settings. Setting up the governor to favour either battery life or performance is simple enough to do, you just have to do some learning. The reason people think Kernel x is better than y is because developers set their kernels up with their preferred governor settings. This is what we refer to as out-of-the-box settings. The out-of-the-box settings for kernel x may well produce better battery results than the out-of-the-box settings for kernel y, which favour performance. The fact is, you as the user have the ability to tune kernel x or y to perform the same, be that battery or performance - so start learning how to do this yourselves - that way, you can choose the kernel based on the FEATURES you want, and not the fictional performance benefits of one kernel over another.
Hope this helps

I hate the "it all depends on your phone, each one is different" bullcrap. That may be true to an extent, but some combos are generally going to be better than others. Besides, most people who ask this question just want to know what people are using and what is working for these people. So now that my rant is over, I'm using BrokenOS with Sensei Kernel R52. I'm getting roughly 4-5 hour SOT with roughly 50-60% brightness and 18 hours off the charger. I'm using the blacked out gapps that are linked with BrokenOS and using the black Swiftkey keyboard theme. All of the black saves battery when the screen is on because those pixels are off when using amoled screens. Don't know if you know that or not, but hey, it's there. Also, I've set the kernel minimum frequency to 223mhz using intelliplug with fsync and mpdecision off using the trickstermod app. I've set the scheduler to fiops and changed the read ahead value to 1024. This has consistently given me these results which I consider to be great! Hope that helps!

That helps greatly! Yes, this question was more of a 'Which ROM/Kernel is the best for you' type of question. And yup, I do know that AMOLEDs give you those pitch black blacks, which is good for battery, since those pixels aren't being used. I myself, am a big flashaholic, tried at least 5-6 Roms and a bunch of kernels.. Best battery life so far for me seems to be Slim + Franco.. I've tried most of the roms and kernels and have always gone back to BlissPop and either Lean or Francos. BlissPop for the features and Lean/Franco for the battery life. I would consider myself a moderate to heavy user and get between 4 - 5 hours of sot, but more important to me, I start my day at 5am and shutdown around 10:30 - 11:00 pm and I generally have 35% - 40% or so left. Of course your milage may vary, I also greenify what I can, but I refuse to lose any features i use, why have a fantastic phone and cripple it. I generally don't change any of the kernels, except maybe set it to conservative, I've had issues in the past undervolting, but thats just me. For the slight battery savings I don't find it does that much. Again, my opinion.
Just take a nandroid of where you are and try some combinations. Give it a few days to settle in. Repeat until your happy with the combination.
