[Q] ROM wear in time - HTC Sensation XL

I've seen a couple of random posts here and there about batteries and phones having to "get used to" user habits to start getting the most out of the battery. So does it take a few charging cycles for a rom to sort itself out power wise?
Secondly
After trying a few different ICS roms i've always found the gingerbread battery life to be better. Is this a fundamental flaw with ICS using more resources or just that we don't have official ICS kernels built for the XL yet? (ICS ota not available to most of the world yet?)

Battery drain is from Kernel(but not real bad?)
It takes a couple of restarts with 1h use inbetween to get it settled in, should be comfy after a days use imo

[Q] Good rom for battery?

I've been using Sabsa Prime and the battery seems to drain quickly and I'm wondering what rom would be good for battery?
I'm using Nik Project X 4.1 and I get average battery: I can get 3 days of battery with normal usage (Wifi + Music player). I used to get 5 days of battery easy with Nik Trinity Sensation XL but I'm looking for a ICS rom with good battery life.

it really depends on where you are, what socket do you have, etc. But what i know excactly - non sense roms are much better about battery than sense one's. i've used miui, now using jelly bean - it's really better

Lying to this people is not nice, there's no way you can make it lasts for 3 days even if you don't use it at all, no matter which rom you are using. Not to mention 5 days.
I'm not sure who're you trying to lie to, us or yourself?
Or maybe you have 2 batteries connected together...

Okay, maybe not really 3 days or 5 days full but almost near that. For ICS I could get 2 days + 12 more hours then it goes to zero. For Trinity XL GB rom, I could get 5 days (well 4 days + 8 hours) because of the deep sleep mode.

Read your posts, 3-5 days with normal usage (wifi+music player) and that's not deep sleep, but even if you leave it in deep sleep no way to pump it up to 5 days or 4d+8h.
Or maybe I'm wrong, but I've never seen a smartphone with battery life like yours. Maybe you should go to HTC and offer your services, cause you'll make them a top smartphone seller as the first smartphones manufacturer that makes them with 5-days battery.
god I'm lucky to get 15 hours with normal usage on ICS\JB.
The best ROM I've found for battery life was CM7. When I go on holiday I always roll back to it
I managed to get a whole week on Android Revolution. I cleaned up almost all default applications, set low screen brightness, used Nova as a launcher, turned off the glamorous animation effects and blocked all data transfer (except for an hour per day, when I turned WiFi on, checked my mailbox and read news feeds). This profile is not really convenient for everyday usage, but it is suitable when you travel.
After try so many roms, I think there are 2 roms -- stock and arhd4.
I am using arhd because battery usage is almost the same as stock rom but it is a bit faster (not oc). My normally usage, this 2.5 years old machine can take up to 36-40 hours.
From my captured battery usage picture.
Screen on: 2 hrs
Auto brightness
Wifi always on
3g: 4 hrs
Voice call: 30 mins

I get a decent days worth from Sabsa, I don't expect it to go on much longer than a day and I charge it every night, but I can leave data on to auto sync, and make/take a couple of calls etc and I get by OK.
I've been running it for a long time now, it's settled down and is functional.

Poor battery life.

Hey all.
My mom has a galaxy s since a couple of years.
For the past few weeks it is having battery issues.
It drains overnight completely.
Could this be a problem related to non stock charger.
Non rooted i9000
Also I was looking for good rom touchwiz roms for battery life.
I know touchwiz just sucks but she isn't used to getting used to news stuff.
Performance is not an issue as she is not into games.
She uses whatts app, blue tooth headset and talks and messages a lot.
I have a very good experience of these things with my note 2 so don't think I am noob. Actually I am flashoholic but I can't do that with her phone.
I9000 - djv5 never rooted.
Also if it could be a issue related to the battery how can I verify that?

Watsapp, Bluetooth hs etc does drain down battery in standby/sleep mode. Watsapp has a hidden process which continuously eats the battery. Best suggestion is a factory reset with no market apps installed for a few days to see actual battery performance. Remember to sync pim contents with gmail.

Best rom for battery life

Hello,
Please what is the best rom and kernel for a good battery life ?
Regards
Hi
Greetings,
Stock Rom..
And such kind of threads are against the rules of xda
Their is no such thing called best Rom and best kernel, all the roms are best and amazing and have a lot of hard work behind them...
Try not to ask such question later
(sorry if you think its rude)

So many factors effect battery life, basically it boils down to this: minimize power consumption (current drawn from battery) will lead to long battery life - time between charges.
Major drain is screen - lower brightness or different auto brightness patch will help
Similarly running lower max cpu clock frequency and or under volting cpu
( custom kernel) will help
Also reduce use of GPS, which uses loads of power will help

It's the kernel which affects the battery, generally all Sense roms will have the same battery as they use the same base and share the same fixes and mods.

True, though a custom rom might give you a bit more battery because there is less bloatware.
Now, regarding a custom kernel, that will definitely affect battery life.
Discussions about the best ROM or kernel are not allowed. Closed.

Latest update worsened battery life

The latest 1.29.xxx.17 update on the One really hurt my battery life. I can barely make it through the day doing basic tasks and the phone heats up really easily.
What are the best roms for battery life and keeping the phone cool? Do 4.2.2 roms have noticeably better battery life:

There is no "best" ROM.. u just got to experiment and see, testing ARHD 10.3 with DS Battery saver. With that app im getting excelent batterylife finally. That app really works.

Time for a change

Hi All,
I have finally shortlisted optimus g and nexus 4. I have to finalize one.
Nexus 4: 16 GB, Optimus G: 32 G
Nexus 4 Latest updates, Optimus G: very slow updates( I meant very slow), and every small developing community ( i meant really very small)
Nexus 4: no LTE, Optimus G: Supports LTE (in india LTE not available)
Nexus 4: no USB OTG support, Optimus G: (Supports pen drive mouse keyboard u name it)
Both devices have reported back cover crack issues and over heating issues. Please provide your views on this.
Both looks good.
Howz gaming performance?
Nexus in india is 25k where as optimus g is 30 k.
So which one to go for.
Currently using Incs for almost 2 years, awesome build quality and pretty good developing community.
Well if I'm not mistaken the nexus 4 is based of the lg. So with that in mind I'd go for the nexus 4.
Nexus 4
Cheaper
Latest version of android
Not sure if, but will probably get 4.3 version of android
So go for the nexus

Correction. So yes, I would suggest the Nexus 4. Its got a nice big developer community too.

Yes we can convert n4 to og with a mod but lg abandons there devices once new device is out. Lg g pro is out.. Og2 is about to come.. So og will be a history. Very less development support.
FYI: the phone is available from august 2012 almost a year and just 38 threads in development section

getting an incredible s
hi guys, i need some opinions here
i'm thinking of getting an incredible s, as i got bored with the hd2 already
i liked incredible s because it fits right into my hand, and i liked holding it. here are my questions:
1) how is the phone? is it still fast for today's standard? (i'm thinking of using sense 4.1 roms)
2) will the speed of the rom increase if i use class 10 cards? my freind used a class10 on his nexushd2 ics and he said there's a noticeable
performance jump, but im skeptical
3) will there be any issues if i used sun global batteries with custom roms? i heard a while back that third-party batteries aren't compatible with
custom roms
thanks for your time yeah?

The Incredible S is a great phone but I think that in this current time and age, you can do a lot better.
For question 2, ummm, there is certainly the possibility but I think it would only be faster in regards to the activities related to the micro sd card. I think someone else should help me here.
For question 3, batteries don't affect a ROM's booting and compatibility with custom ROM's. They are just batteries (like the stock one HTC gives you) that provides juice for your phone.

umm... so do i have to do any battery calibrations if i used third-party batteries?

You always need battery calibrations after flashing a new rom as you flash a new rom, old battery stats are still in your device and thus this can affect your battery percentage.
As a new battery is already calibrated, it is not advised but it wouldnot make a difference unless the battery is too old or of low quality

They are not always necessary. 80% of the time when I flash a new ROM, I don't bother with wiping battery stats simply because it does not make a notable difference in battery life or readings whatsoever. I only calibrate battery if and ONLY if I know that I'm supposed to be getting better battery on a particular ROM

Seriously?
How many times does it take for people to realize that wiping battery stats is probably just as useful as trying to unlock the screen by screaming at it?
If you need the sources for why the battery stats doesn't matter at all, just look through my earlier posts Google it. I'm currently on 2G so it'll take ages for me to find it.
(No, not trying to sound hostile or anything, just tired of people still wasting their time on wiping the battery stats)

After flashing a new rom, there are always chances that some stats from previous rom are left and this could result in quick drainage of battery. Battery life isnot improved or made better by this, however, sometimes due to flashing roms, the battery percentage is messed showing wrong percentage all the time. Thus, Calibrating a Battery is a better than waitng for battery to settle down.
"Better performance and battery-life is why most of us turn to custom ROMs. We keep trying from the available ROMs and stick to one that meets up to our expectations. Now there are two ways to find out how the battery performs- with the help of a battery monitor app (stock or third-party) and by taking note of the battery performance during the hours of a day.
If you feel that your device is not yielding good battery just because the battery monitor stats show it, you might be wrong in your judgement as most such apps sometimes lie to us.
Remember that with any ROM installed on your Android device, you will discover two things: 1. battery heat up, and 2. battery drain. And these issues for the most part are due to process of your phone’s new software and battery sync. It usually requires 3-4 full-charge and discharge cycles before things go to a normal state and after this, you will notice great improvement in battery performance. So, do not be quick in concluding anything about battery.
Let the battery calibrate and while you wait try one more thing. Whether you get a new phone or new software on your old device, avoid putting your device into charging mode frequently. Turn off the phone, plug charger, wait till it is fully charged and then use it till it is fully discharged. Repeating this several times will improve the battery-life of your device. I have tested it and it really works. "

Calibrating as in fully charge and then let it discharge to <5%, yes. As in removing a file which only saves what apps used how much battery, how the *beeeep* is that supposed to help your battery?

whoops i mistook battery calibration as wiping battery stats :silly:
but yeah, honestly, my battery rarely falls below 30%. Im more of a go home then walk out a couple hours later so charging from 5% takes a bit too long. Thus I never do battery calibration. In addition it doesn't really do anything. Battery does not improve to a noticeable point where its actually worth the 5 or 6 hours wait to charge the phone :/
