So who actually has handbricked his device with one of the leaked kernels. Please be honest!
and if there are who bricked their phones with ics leak kernels, please also leave feedback after what moves you bricked phone
I bricked my phone with that angel from ics kernel leak a few months ago.
I'm sure the emmc partition is corrupt that writes data to it while flashing rooms
Mobile Odin dont work or PC Odin can't help me i get factoryfs.img error on write.
Resulting in gingerbread roms stock or custom cant be flashed
ics repack touchwizz roms can't be flashed either.
Only working roms that work are aosp-aokp.imilka cm9.
Liquidsmooth -stunner and so on.
But Cassie's extra light x gingerbread rom works.
But that's the only 1
But I went to a phone shop today
And the person said thay be having new software in 2 weeks that will fix my issue
So I can have stock gingerbread again
I believe I've just bricked my GNote a few minutes ago. I was on Criskelo ICS, then this thing with ICS leaks are being dangerous and the performance of the phone in games made me try CM9.
I've followed the instructions, the phone doesn't restart now. I'm in USA, I just wonder how the warranty works for international GNote in here. Do I have to send it to Samsung UK ? I got my phone through Expansys-USA btw

I bricked my phone a few months ago. Flashing angel ics kernel.
I still had working download mode. But cwm recovery was missing and replace with a blue writing state,
Interface I think it was.
So I flashed a kernel I think kj4
Cwm recovery was installed again
Resulting in me using it again
As a semi bricked device
I totally bricked mine when updating stunner, I made a good bit of noise about it though I think most of it was removed. And yes totally bricked and going back to sammo for motherboard replacement at a cost to myself. Should be hard for any one to brick now with all the information available tho

you should follow some of the guides on this forum to see if you can get your phone recognized by PC odin. Just because the screen and buttons do not work does not necessarily mean that you are hardbricked

By mistake I flashed ICS kernel (witch was inside in iMilkas gapps) when I was on latest Cyanogen...
and I failed.
And I call to USA Samsung, they said : "Im sorry your phone is N-7000 ! Non-US phone." Call to the Europe.
I called to UK Samsung, they said: "Im sorry you in US, we can't help you".
So long story short, THANKs GOD for Ebay ! lol
I fixed for 29$ (JTAG box)

Hi all,
My note run ICS has been rooted and the last rom on it is king droid 2.1
Just yesterday I've tried to wipe it all from the recovery. After that it was stuck on the main screen when you switch on the phone I was still able to go in recovery so I try to re-flash the same rom and after the previous one without success then I've tried to flash back the original rom lpy with Odin started to recognise the device but when it started to flash it it takes ages and the progressive bar it stay just like on 1% .
Now the phone doesn't go in recovery mode but just in download mode and on the screen comes "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Off course Kies does not recognise the phone.
Please help me I'm desperate
Thanks to all
you had wiped in recovery, your phone is bricked ......sorry, i hope you have yet warrenty
The phone is on warranty but I haven't got the receipt unfortunately
Kingdroid 2.1 uses a cf-root that is affected by superbrick bug (and this is why this version was removed from the OP by his author), so probably your note is damaged.
in general section there are many threads (like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661590) with guides that you can try to use to "repair" your bricked note... otherwise you can send it to samsung assistance and hope in a free motherboard replacement.

But if I send the note to Samsung they can see the phone it has been rooted
Do u think they will still do something for it?

Sure they can, but if they find your note is rooted (or generically modded) you have to pay the cost of the mainboard replacement.
However, first of all, I suggest you to read the thread I've posted (and even others) and verify if you can revive your note by yourself.
Good luck mate, I'm really sorry for your note :-(

Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
First thing you should do is check other threads about that around here.
If you can get it into download mode, you could give flashing with Odin a try. If it doesn't get stuck at factory.fs, then you're not superbricked.
If it does get stuck, then you have 2 more hopes:
- HOPE 1
- HOPE 2
If those don't work either...I'm afraid it's off to the Samsung Service center for a shiny new motherboard.
Best of luck to you and hope you get your Note up and running as soon as possible...
I know but mistake happens......and unfortunately I did a big mistake......I'm getting mad to try to solve this problem
Thanks I'll look the threads soon I finish to work Odin by he way it get stuck on factory.fs. So no chance but I was reading about The pit file do you know something about?

I AM FROM INDIA ,I AM A REGULAR VISITOR OF THIS FORUM. I TRIED SEVERAL ROMS NEARLY I MIGHT HAVE DONE 25 ROM INSTALLATION IN MY PHONE USING ODIN. FOR THE LAST 20 DAYS I AM ON THE SAME ROM DDLP8 ICS 4.03 (ROOTED)
DURING A FILE TRANSFER FROM MY PC PHONE SWITCHED OF AND DIDNT GO ON.
i searched xda and finally custom pit method worked for me with a pit file .. but i now have only 9 GB space in my internal SD . i tried all other pits only two pit file allows me to install a rom.
any way to regain my memory back.
if repair is the only option how much indian rupee it will cost.
please brothers help me . i am a student and because of addiction to custom roms i have installed roms several times.
Well, if patched pit was the only solution that worked for you, I think that's no way you can get your 7gb-left back, cause part of your emmc storage is probably -certainly- corrupted, and for now is impossible to repair without a motherboard replacement...unfortunately you need Samsung assistance for that.
I'm sorry mate but I don't live in India, so I have no idea of how much it will cost.

Hello Everyone
I have read quite a bit about flashing but have not tried it yet. I know that the phone can be soft bricked if there is some problem and can be subsequently recovered as well. I also read about something known as nand corruption and I guess that too is recoverable as well.
What I wanted to know was can this phone be permanently bricked and if yes in what cases can it be possible?
I searched google with the same question and found that there can be emmc chip failure but that affects the S2 and Galaxy Note and that too particularly the ICS roms only.
So I wanted to know what is the status of this phone as far as bricking permanently is concerned.
Regards
till what i have experienced so far that it can only be permanently bricked by throwing it on wall
P.s. till now i have flashed thousands of times...
Thanks! These kind of replies are motivating to start experimenting and trying some roms!

i would advice you to read the developer instruction carefully and in any doubt check with experience users/read comment in thread and then only flash anything...
I have expierence with sgs+, sgsII, sg5 (gt-i5500), htc one s & lg optimus x2.. the sgsII didnt worked anymore cuz a friend try'd to flash it but had no knowledge about what he is doing but then i ressurected it and now it works.. i think it is not possible to brick a phone (but i am only sure at samsung smartphones) if you do a mistake there are still ways to ressurect it if you did something wrong.

The tutorial for almost all roms seems to be same!

3.) Apply update via recovery mode.
And if you have to update another rom repeat the procedure above!
But reading few threads on XDA the information here seem very complicated for some roms! :-?

yes... few users are complaining about loosing imei and not able to connect to network... so best practice says always flash JB over ICS and ICS over GB... always flash JB over ICS....
If you need more info or links head to remics-jb thread in development section.

But this is only happening if i9100 rom file has a pit file

Hello guys I just sold my 4S and bought this Note 1 , anyway im new to android flashing and this stuff , ive heard that its way different than iOS restoring which is really easy and simple. Right now i got a few questions , If i missed a step or did something wrong it'll render my device unusable ofcourse , but will it be unrecoverable ? Thats the first thing. Second thing is that is it recommended that i install custom roms? right now i need one's with the Water Ripple effects on lockscreens , or if you can just tell me how to install the effect without custom rom's that'll be helpful because i want to flash official 4.1.2 jelly bean first and then the lockscreen effect. Im just new to the Android stuff and i dont know where to start Same feeling back in 2008 when i bought my first iPhone and got confused n' all
Read around for awhile, its what got me started when I first came here.
Again, read, read read, and avoid asking questions which have been answered countless times its annoying really.
Start with this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997, understand it by heart before attempting to root/flash on your new Note :good:
I dont really get anything , extract till tar what does that mean?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
If you just install stock official 4.1.2 rom via odin, it should come with the ripple effect.
Or if the update is already available in your country, you can just update it to the latest official rom via kies.

You'll notice that all of the download links are zip files.
You just need to extract the zip file until you find the .tar file.
Get 7-zip if you don't already have an archive reader.
Help with kernel
So recently I rooted my Samsung Galaxy Note GTN7000 and flash it with franco kernel, then when I turned on my phone the bluetooth is not working and it constantly crashes and get stuck (The screen just go green and pink like an old TV with bad signal). So I panicked and unroot it immidiately. But that didnt seem to solve the problem.
So my question is, can I flash it with the original kernel. If so how? and where can I get it. can you teach me. (NOOB REQUEST )
just flash the stock rom again... using PC odin

Yep, there's a way to install roms without PC, using mobile Odin, but before that you should have your phone been rooted first.
Well i can upgrade with PC but im kinda afraid .. All i want is just updating to jelly bean official on my note , I searched for about 2 days and learned how its being done but while searching i came to posts showing people crying cause they got their phone bricked cause of kernel blah blah , i also saw at the end of the installation guides that it will get my phone in a boot loop or stuck at samsung logo and im not sure xD i just want to update and im taking it seriously cause i dont want to brick my phone .. It may brick. Not definite that it will brick. Still, better safe than sorry. Never wipe on stock ICS kernel!

Well said mate. Was going to say exactly the same. People seem to rethink it's a manned help site.
We will help but help your self first. That's how you learn.

I actually read and made my research already , and also successfully upgraded to jelly bean and i must say , i made a big mistake >.< The performance is crap and the phone gets overheated in a few minutes on both note 1 and 2 ( Its on 4.1.1) Im not really into kernels or custom rom flashing cause i already had a bad experience when i emmc bricked my old s2 thats why i take my steps carefully with this note. Ill downgrade to 2.3.6 and ordered an original battery (Yeah im using fake one stupid i know) and see of that fixes it. Appreciate your help guys , thanks

I have a Galaxy S Advance that I purchased in Hong Kong, although I live in the United States. The phone has been working very well on T-Mobile's network for over one year. The phone is running stock gingerbread. I have never flashed any roms.
Yesterday, the phone's touchscreen stopped working. I didn't drop it, and it didn't get wet. It just suddenly stopped allowing touch input. I thought that it might be a software issue, so I booted into recovery and did a factory reset. After re-booting, the phone still isn't responding to touch.
What else can I do to check whether this is a software problem?
Should I try flashing the stock firmware? If so, how do I know which PDA number to use?
Thank you!
Or you could go to the local store with your phone cuz I think this has nothing to do with the firmware...

Can a firmware error cause this problem? I'd love to take it into the shop, but as I said I purchased it in Hong Kong. I live in the US. I suppose I may have to mail it back, but was hoping someone may have some advice.
All of the buttons at the bottom are responsive to touch, but the screen is not.

I guess it's an error in the screen. Or else, try flashing JellyBean XXLQ4 on your device using Odin and the USB Cable. And if THAT doesn't do it. Use CoCore Kernel ( root required ), I read it improves the sensitivity of the touchscreen so you may try that. If that doesn't work, boot into recovery ( volume up + home + power ) and make the reset and cache wipe and flash JB XXLQ4 again. Then go to the nearest phone store, act as if you never tried to install a kernel or rooted ur phone and look if they can find the problem. If found, send to hongkong.
*Edit: added link to JB firmwares. You need the Ser LQ4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2110245

Thank you for the advice. Will upgrading to JB via Odin void the warranty? I know that JB hasn't been officially released in Hong Kong yet. Does Samsung care?
Nope. This JB is stock firmware so it can not void your warranty here in Holland I also had some problems, went to samsung with the JB ( which is not yet released ) and it wasn't a problem.

Do not, and I repeat, do not forget to root your phone before you flash the CoCore Kernel. You can root using Shaaans method. It's found in the Dev section and it's quite simple.
Let me know if it worked out

This is a noob question, but if I use the wrong PDA version will it brick the phone? From what I've read it seems that moving to JB is fine even if it's software from a different country (Serbia/Russia). What if I flash the "wrong" country's gingerbread version?
Again, thank you all for the answers. This is very helpful.

Once you've been on JB you wouldn't want sh*tty old GB back haha. Uhmm there is a tutorial about reflashing GB 2.3.6 on the Q&A section, I will search the link and edit this post when I find it
*Edit: Link to downgrade tut is here. It works for all languages / regions, as long as your phone is an 8GB device and not 16GB ( thats for this method ). http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100642
*Edit2: just follow the steps described in the topics about the 4.1.2 or do some googling, most of the time there is a specific description with the files.

claim your warranty first, if you have international warranty.. this might be a hardware problem..
for all you said, it suddenly lost touch function..
point is.. let the service center figure out first the cause of the problem before trying to solve it on your own..
after that, you can try JB firmware and modifying it to alot of stuff..
